Your favorite Yelp correspondent's curiosity for SOURDOUGH & COMPANY was triggered, not unlike baiting a hook, when he saw the "Coming Soon" signs posted outside a future S&C post in Chino Hills on SAT night. Lawd hammercy- A fast casual sandwich place devoted to my favorite all time bread?! Count me in!!!! So when my SUN shift ferrying meals culminated at 6:32pm in Arcadia, I'd remembered that S&C had a store in nearby Monrovia and swiftly placed an online order for a Pastrami with Provolone, sized large. The sole edits I made to the sandwich? Tossed the tomato because the seeded fruit, while fine on certain cold sandos, is a downright combatant to well made hot sandwiches. I mean, unless you like the soggy wetness of tomatoes to bog down your bread amd transform an otherwise winning meal into a sloppy, wet mess! My sandwich itself? Warrants a 4.5 of 5 stars. And I'm a tough grader esp on pastrami since my preference is for the wickedly delish strami served by Jewish Delis a la Katz (NYC), Miller's East Coast (SF) and Brent's Deli in Northridge. The artisinal quality bread is redonkulously fabulous! Perfectly crisp, crackling exterior that folds down into a softer, doughier bite yet is still sturdy enough to withstand any volume of meat or weight of spreads. The pastrami itself gets 4 stars on flavor -but look who I'm comparing it to!-, 5 on bread and a 4.5 on texture of the meat (always noteworthy when selecting a brined meat such as pastrami, brisket or corned beef). In my opinion S&C is a lil stingy w/ the meat to bread ratio- I'm pragmatic enough to grasp that a retailer like S&C cannot make like Brents or Katz and lavish customers with a half pound or four-plus inches in height of pastrami...but I found the allocated pastrami portion (around 3 or 4oz or 1" in height) to be wanting. Especially because I'd upgraded to the store's L size sandwich! We'll peg their meat to bread ratio as a 3. The young man who served me was awesome. Graciously pointed me to the restroom and even remarked how he'd "Moved your pickle to the side," because while I relish an authentically brined cucumber as an accompaniment to my sandwiches the sole sandos that taste GOOD with a pickle on em are a Chik Fil A Chicken Sando or virtually any BBQ pulled pork entrant. Note: Am I the only diner in America who wishes the restaurant staff would stop hiding or flipping over their name tags?! That's the lone way we have of identifying you! Stand behind your employer and display your name tags w/ your name facing out! You can tell a lot by a restaurant by how clean it keeps its restrooms. Not only does S&C extend its "Americana Farmhouse" decor into the restroom, but the space itself is maintained to a clean, hospitable appearance. Talk about a welcoming sight! This particular S&C is cozily nestled between a Jamba Juice and a See's Candy in the Foothill Park Plaza in Monrovia. A quite suitable arrangement given that I suspect most guests will quickly develop sugar-sweet feelings for S&C's winning combo of well made sandwiches/salads, good service set in a clean, welcoming environment. I probably won't make it back to the Monrovia spot anytime soon but I do look forward to welcoming its brand new entrant to the Chino Hills area, a simple ten minute drive from my Diamond Bar home. read more

First time trying Sourdough & Co. Monrovia I will say a few things lacked. Let's start with the welcome when we walked in, there wasn't one. Felt like the worker Erin didn't want to be at work and honestly felt like we were an inconvenience to her. We were first timers, explain, have suggestions be friendly..., help! Instead of looking at us and watching us struggle. The Ambiance was very off, the workers were playing Eminem Rap with cursing in the music. But the cups have Bible verses? Nice clean store, menus and counter well put together. Areas of improvement: Brisket meat needs some work. Was ice cold to the touch, had an Arby's low quality beef flavor. My family and I randomly stumbled upon Sourdough & Co. We were looking for a place to get a nice lil snack before we had to make our way to a 3 o'clock appointment. We figured we'd stop in and at least take a peek. The first thing that hits you is the amazing smell of freshly baked bread. I don't frequent too many sandwich shops. Lately, however, I have been eating at more places like my local Giamela's italian subs, Jersey Mike's and the occasional subway. Looking at the description of some of these sandwiches, I knew my little one and my other half would both really enjoy some "sammiches" (as I call them) from here. Immediately, I must admit, nothing really caught MY eye. Then I saw that they offered sourdough bread, bowls with soup. That is kind of a weakness of mine. I ended up with the chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. It took a lil longer for me to get my soul in the bread bowl. That was fine. It was SO SUPER fresh! First bite of bread... I was in LOVE!!! It was slightly crusty on the outside. It was super duper soft and spongy on the inside. The bread was absolutely perfect. My only regret is that I wish I had ordered more bread in my initial order. By the time that we all finished our snacks, which ended up to be more like meals, we agreed as a family that we needed to buy a loaf of the sourdough bread and take it home. Now, when requesting a loaf of bread to take home, you have two different options. You can take home a loaf that is par baked (not completely baked and so you'd have to take the bread home and toss it into your own oven for a lil while) or you can take one home that is 100% baked. We bought a baguette that was already completely baked. The funny thing, I remember buying the bread and bringing it home. After it made it into the kitchen, and it was announced to everybody in the family that this bread was available for all of us to share, it disappeared. It was so good. It didn't last more than a day. The soup I had was delicious. My little one had a chicken pesto sandwich that was amazing. My little one loves pesto to begin with so this was an obviously clear choice. Even better, I was able to order this adult sounding sandwich as a kid's meal. OMG that was perfect! (My lil one is indeed young but they fancy more sophisticated flavors than just grilled cheese or a classic pb&j.) My other half, he had a brisket sandwich. He really loved that. Everything we had, the service that was provided to us, the clean, dining area, the fun, light hearted chit chat... it was all wonderful and made our whole experience that much more memorable. I actually am looking forward to a second trip here. I would like to try another soup but also to get some more bread to take home. This small shop opened a few months ago. This is information that we found out by speaking with the employees. One of them happens to be a Seahawks fan. GO HAWKS!! (Super Bowl 60 champs) there is ample free parking available in this strip mall. They are right next-door to the See's Candies. I don't know their hours or anything like that, but I am sure you can find that on either their website or here, on yelp. They are a tiny shop and make everything to order. So don't be surprised if there's a little wait when you go and order your sandwich after several other people. All of the staff were so friendly. We will definitely visit again when we need to travel back out toward that area for another appointment. This is probably going to be a regular stop of ours now. I have been waiting for this place to open. I finally got a chance to go today. I ordered the smoked brisket sandwich and also the Caprese sandwich. I ordered the 4 inch for both sandwiches. I recently saw someone on Instagram do a review of these two sandwiches which is why I wanted to try them. When I walked in, I was greeted immediately by a young man who was very nice. He took my order and gave me a very specific. Wait time of 8 to 10 minutes. As I was sitting there, people started coming in. It was getting busy. It's a very small place. I think there was maybe five little tables inside and once it gets busy it is kind of crowded cause you're standing right on top of you. I took the sandwiches home and tried half of each of them. Honestly, they were both delicious. The only thing I would say is that it is quite pricey for what you're getting. The 4 inch sandwiches were each $12.99. That is a lot of money for a small sandwich like that. The sourdough roll was delicious. Perfectly cooked. The crust was crunchy. The inside was soft and we had such a great flavor. Sourdough & Co is finally open in Monrovia - I love soups and anything to do with sourdough bread so I've been anxiously awaiting their opening! I had a solid first visit and will likely return - the bread was lovely and I enjoyed their veggie soup especially. The staff were so enthusiastic and welcoming - really made my day! For our first lunch we tried the veggie soup, chicken salad sandwich, and I couldn't resist sampling their "signature mac n'cheese" from the advertisement.  The veggie soup was packed full of a surprising variety of veggies like zucchini, carrots, corn, tomato, and more. It was hearty and tasted light and fresh. It was pretty mild and I feel like it could've used a bit more salt but definitely something I'd get again. The mac n'cheese was alright - nothing special - and it definitely didn't look like the advertisement so I was a little disappointed. It tasted like your everyday fast casual mac n'cheese and probably not something I'd get again - but if you like that sort of fast casual fare it's a decent version. I enjoyed our chicken salad sandwich - it's made with grapes and walnuts and the chicken was decent quality. It came in large chunks which was fine but my personal preference is the shredded chicken - that would've taken it up a level for sure (it was still good though).  I wasn't sure how their chicken salad was made so I asked for mayo to be added and it definitely didn't need it - it has plenty of mayo already. But their signature dijon mustard was a nice addition so I do recommend trying that out - it went surprisingly well. They also have a wide variety of cheese options to add so I went with pepper jack and was a good combo. They have plenty of chip varieties to choose from if you add those onto your sandwich, as well as your standard soft drink selection, a couple of lemonade flavors, and even several cookie choices. The menu is quite large so there's something for everyone - sandwiches, soups, salads, wraps, flatbreads and more. Prices are on par for the area and supported by the quality for the most part.  The vibes are fast casual but cozy and it would be a good spot to enjoy your lunch. They're located next to See's Candy in the very busy Von's plaza right at the entrance to Old Town Monrovia but there's plenty of parking.  You can tell the staff are excited to be open - they were so bubbly and warm and eager to talk about the menu and answer questions - a very nice welcome on my first visit. I have been waiting to try this place and it did not disappoint! I ordered the garlic pesto, while a bit on the messy side it was still incredibly delicious. The sandwich was full of flavor and the ingredients are fresh. I ordered the 4" and it was plenty. I do wish the bread was a bit softer so it's easier to chew, but that still did not stop me from devouring the sandwich. I also ordered a side of Mac and cheese, which was delicious and cheesy. The service is friendly and welcoming. When it's busy they do their best to get orders out quickly. Overall, definitely worth checking out. The meat is incredibly tender, juicy, and packed with incredible smoky flavor that cuts perfectly through their signature fresh sourdough. Paired with their house spread and fresh toppings, it easily elevates a simple sandwich into something special. I really wanted to like this place because it's close and I love sourdough. My veggie sandwich was not great. My husband got the smoked brisket and was not impressed. On a Saturday afternoon in January, my sister and I came here for lunch. When we walked inside, it was busy of people waiting for their sandwiches. We shared an 8 inch French dip sandwich. We waited 20 min for sandwich to arrive. There was 4 tables and a counter to order. Soda machine, and pick up sandwiches. They also sell salad, hot and cold sandwiches. and soups. The sourdough bread was soft and it had plenty of meat. The dipping broth was flavorful when I dipped it. The line to wait to order was crowded and crap close to the door by 12noon. Had the pastrami sandwich and the Reuben from Sourdough & Co., and both were . The pastrami was tender, flavorful, and piled high, while the Reuben had the perfect combination of corned beef, sauerkraut, cheese, and dressing.
