Wow! What a fabulous place to visit. My bestie and I were making a day of canning jam. She'd visited this farm before, but I had not. Wonderful friendly faces. The ladies who greeted us were very nice. They encouraged us to try all samples. We ended up buying flats of day-old strawberries, just picked berries and tayberries. And I purchased some jars of jams and honey. The berries tasted sooooooo good. We canned quite a bit and my friend cannot wait to hand out jars as gifts this season. The farm does take credit cards, but charges a fee for using one. Cash is preferred. There is plenty of parking. This is definitely a family-friendly place. read more

Very nice local berry farm. I was in search of U-pick raspberries and came across South Barlow Berries Facebook page. They do a great job with their social media! We stopped in on a cloudy Saturday and ended up with soooo many berries! Bring your own picking containers. You can purchase small buckets that they have available in the shop for $4. Go into the shop first to have your own containers weighed. The weight is deducted from berry weight. Then off to pick! They have several varieties. We saw strawberries, marionberries, raspberries, & tayberries. Their signage also lists boysenberries but I didn't see those in the rows. They also offer blueberries but they're not U-pick. Their strawberries are June bearing and were already done by the time we made the trip over. We'll be back next year to get a bunch of those. *They have berries ready to buy in the shop too if you don't want to U-pick. I like this farm being very conveniently located, easy parking, and a very short walk to the fields. They have wagons if you need to haul containers, boxes, or any other items out to the field with you. The berries are VERY good and the entire field appears well maintained. They've become one of my favorite nearby berry farms. Stop in for a visit. It's a fun day for the whole family! read more

Beautiful family farm, many varieties of great berries, and friendly service! They keep up on their Facebook page so watch for updates on what berries are ripe. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for weather. We took home 5 buckets of berries and will be back. read more

Deliciously sweet Hood Strawberries for a great price! My hubby and I were super excited to find this little farm so close to home offering U-Pick Hood Strawberries for only $1.50 a pound. Plus they let you bring your own containers so you don't have to pay for theirs and you can show up anytime during opening hours. There's multiple port-a-potties and hand washing stations conveniently placed before you get to the fields. They were also disinfecting all hard surfaces when we were there and even had a Social Distancing cutout to commemorate your pandemic berry picking experience. Fields were large enough and berries plentiful enough to make social distancing a breeze. This will definitely be a new family tradition to kick off the summer! Bring your own baskets for easier picking (we used small trick-or-treat baskets) or left over clear plastic clam shell containers that can't be recycled anyways (Reduce. Reuse! Recycle). Wash hands before and after picking at the stations next to the buildings. Pick the reddest berries just above their leafy heads. When you've collected enough berry goodness, head back to the hand washing stations and wash your hands, then into the building you go to get the your collection weighed and paid. Try not to eat all of them before you get home. We enjoyed ours fresh, in parfaits with whipped cream and graham crackers, and made strawberry ice cream. Yum! read more

I bought a flat of strawberries from them at the Saturday market in OC. The strawberries on top didn't look too bad but when I went home and went through them, they were all rotten. I went back this weekend to tell them and ask for refund. They were rude and told me I could see with my eyes that they were good or bad when I bought them. This isn't the first time they've hid the rotten berries under good ones. I would not recommend buying from these people. They should be kicked out of the OC farmers market for being scammers. read more

Although the weather this year didn't produce the biggest strawberries, we got a huge basket of surprisingly sweet berries. The kids had a terrific time running back and forth down the long rows of strawberry plants, picking berries, and probably stomping a few hundred into jam as they ignored my pleas to not step on the plants. I recommend bringing your own bucket or basket for easier picking or you can use one of the buckets or boxes kindly provided by the South Barlow Berries staff. (But it's hard to pick while holding the large rectangular box.) The young woman who helped us was great in cheerfully explaining where to go and what to do. I mean, it's pretty simple, just pick berries and come back to weigh them and pay by the pound, but for those who've read my reviews recently, I am from Oahu where we can't grow berries due to the annoyingly year round sunny weather. So this whole berry picking thing is about as foreign to me as eating poi and reading street names in Hawaii would be to someone born and raised in Oregon. We got about five thousand pounds of strawberries for about five bucks. I don't know how we'll ever eat all these sweet and juicy berries but we ate them all the way home in the car and then for dessert. With the four thousand pounds I had left over I froze them in freezer ziploc bags to use in smoothies or just eat frozen. Where and when is a good place for blueberry picking? I'm so ready for another thousand pounds of berries! read more

The U-Pick experience here was top-notch. My boyfriend and I went to pick our own strawberries today to celebrate my birthday. After driving down some country roads for awhile we arrived at this quaint family farm. A nice young lady greeted us, weighed our containers, and showed us where the strawberries were. For a smaller farm, there sure were plenty of fresh berries to choose from! Rows and rows of delicious, juicy berries. We ate ourselves silly as we picked and filled our buckets until there was no room left. When we went to pay, we were delightedly surprised that they only charge $1 per pound. So for all our berries, we paid less money than I sometimes do at the grocery. I can't wait for July so we can come back and pick they other berries they grow! read more

Bummed. Purchased a half flat of strawberries today. Over half were old and squishy...they were also refrigerated. I didn't think strawberries did well with refrigeration. Pick em yourself or find another place! My chickens were happy... read more
