I stopped by this mobile repair shop the day after I had got back to Los Angeles because I was not able to charge my iPhone during the middle of my out-of-state trip. In fact my friend was telling me to drop 4 figures on a brand new iPhone at the nearest Apple Store because my friend doesn't trust any out-of-state mobile repair shops. Well I didn't take any of my friend's suggestions and charged my phone via wireless charging until I find a solution. [Parking]: Easy free street parking. Downtown Lomita is typically pretty quiet. [Service]: I told the technician that I couldn't charge my iphone via the lightning port and he told me to come back in 5 - 10 minutes. I came back in 10 minutes and apparently my phone got a lot of dirt/lint which ultimate created gaps. All he did was cleaning the port as well as speaker outlets and the problem was solved. Grant total? $39 fee (tax included). 5-star for fixing the my iPhone charging port problem in such a quick fashion. Local GEM of a repair shop! I had some water damage for a relatively new MacBook model. I paid hundreds less or roughly over half of what I would have had to pay at Apple. My iPhone screen had crack causing the face id to function randomly. So I came in to South Bay mobile repairs to do something about it. The tech Rusty helped me out. That Sunday afternoon the shop was jamming to some cool jazz covers , and not that busy. He explain the process and within an hour fix my phone. Just a heads up that this shop does not have a waiting area . Although within a block there is a brewery , coffee shop , bakery, pizzera , and several thrift stores to explore. The trees shade most of the street parking too if you prefer to wait in your car. As for price , I paid less then what Apple quoted but still a little more then what I expected . I also got a screen protector which was more than Amazon prices but he did install it and throughly redid the first screen protector , because he wasn't satisfied with the first unit used. They also offer warranty and have online quotes for those that want to check rates before hand. Overall It feels good not having to gamble if face id will unlock Apple Pay at cashiers. Cannot say thank you enough! I have an iPhone 13 mini that randomly turned off. Apple ran diagnostics and determined it would never turn on due to internal hardware issues. They could not confirm how or why, and confirmed it was not repairable and no data would be recovered. I brought my phone to South Bay Mobile Repairs, paid the diagnostic fee, and had a fully functioning (with all data intact) phone the next day. Super friendly staff, no silly fees, just helpful service. Crazy that my phone went from dead for ever and potentially needing to spend $800+ for new phone, to back to normal for $49. They were able to fix it and fix it again when there were some issues with what I'm assuming was with the bios. They were busy during so it took longer than what i anticipated but they communicated everything well so I didn't mind. This review is long overdue however, it's like its been said - better late than never, right? Don't answer that ... a few instances just came to mind that makes this totally false. Anyway, back in May of this year, I was annoyed with the pics taken with my iPhone and noticed that the glass covering the camera lens was cracked. I immediately started asking others and calling around for recommendations to get it fixed because I was about to leave for a trip to the Cayman Islands. I need to take pics for Yelp, ya know. So, thanks to Yelp, I found South Bay Mobile Repairs and it happened to be convenient for me as I was already in the area. Walked in, met Judd, who I believe was the manager and who also worked on my iPhone. I observed how he worked with another customer who was a novice when it came to IOS devices - how patient he was with her as well as informative and took care of her issue on a level that there was no confusion whatsoever. Parking can be challenging but it's free. No meters to feed or paid lots. If you have to wait for your repairs, there's couches in the shop or you can walk around in what looks to be an old town area that's being renovated. They had just moved so there wasn't a very long wait on my part. $40 and a free screen protector later, I walked out with the ability to take and post pics to my satisfaction again. The screen protector was a Yelp Check in perk. This was back in May - not sure if it's still valid but mentioning it anyway. It's August and I've been on a few trips around the world in different climates and the repair has held up. I got my phone back with a foggy screen. The manager told me the aftermarket screens they use are not the same quality as apple and that's just how it is. The next day I noticed the my text messages were intermittently adding periods. I called ahead and they said to drop it off and they'll take a look. On my way there, the aftermarket/knockoff screen cracked and they wouldn't honor the repair. I switched to apple for reliability. Trying to save a few bucks with knockoff parts undermines that purpose. read more

After making an appointment online towards the end of the day (an hour and a half before close), I went to get my screen replaced. Apparently, the appointment does not mean much because I was told they would not have time to finish before closing upon arrival. While at the store, I confirmed with the employee that I could have the screen replaced the next day if I came in early. After leaving the store, I received a call about 15 minutes later that they would be able to fix it that day, but I was already home. I called the next day to confirm that if I brought it in, they could repair the screen and even specified the type of phone. After arriving 30 minutes later, I was told they did not have the parts in stock to fix the screen. I took time off work two days in a row to try to get this done, drove 20+ minutes each way, and could not get my phone screen repaired. I'm not sure why they would waste a customer's time like that, so I can't recommend this place. read more

Today Rusty at South Bay Mobile Repair fixed my iPhone. He said that it was a software problem. Even though my phone is old he said he has seen it happen with newer phones as well. He demonstrated what he had done ( pushing the home button and the on button at the same time). Took just a few minutes and asked if I would write a review. Impeccable service and incredible timing Took my phone that I've been having trouble with (and was too scared to get fixed for years mind you) on a Sunday and finished fixing it by Tuesday! Incredible! They also honored all my requests and kept the integrity of my data intact, the phone screen is like brand new I almost have a new phone! (And I should for the price , oh OnePlus but--Worth It!) Mixed results from my experience here, but ultimately ended up disappointed. My wife referred me after having done three separate repairs on phones and computers. My situation wasn't as smooth, however. I had a screen replaced on my iPhone XS. Upon getting home, I realized that the screen was hypersensitive and with the slightest touch on icons, my phone will prompt me to delete apps, which is abnormal. I figured this was a problem I could tolerate and didn't bother contacting them (my mistake). However, the following day after I had the phone repaired, the screen spontaneously cracked near the earpiece. This was a non-impact situation, meaning i didn't drop or step on the phone. When I called, I was told that this was not covered under warranty (this was not indicated when i picked up the phone and they don't do official paperwork with fine print for their screen repairs). I spoke to the owner who was trying his best to be generous; but despite the uncertainty, wouldn't take responsibility for the botched repair and wouldn't cover it under warranty. We eventually agreed to a resolution, but it took several days and the phone still has sensitivity issues, even after the second try. EDIT: Downgraded to a 1-star review after reading the owner's response, which includes false information and derogatory statements. I never "forced" him to agree to anything. He could have chosen no resolution, and the reason I didn't give him a 1-star at first was because I felt he wanted to do something for me. I did say that I would consider a stop payment because this information was not clearly stated either verbally or on any invoice or receipt. I certainly never intended on filing any review, but elected to because the situation took seven days to resolve and I never felt that this company took full responsibility for an obvious botched install and/or not being clear with the exceptions to the warranty. I recommend refraining from taking your mobile devices to this company. UBreakIFix is nearby and does an excellent job with installs, consultation, and being clear about its policies and procedures. read more

[UPDATE 1: Review #159] I've been having on & off again issues with my screen, so I contacted Jason to see if this is a random glitch or if there's actually something wrong with my iPhone/screen. As was our previous interaction, Jason was responsive & customer-oriented by: trying to diagnose the issue based on my description of the problem; explaining the issues in layman's terms (again); offering to look into the issue & 10% discount on a new screen for my troubles; & being available on short notice. Actually, he wasn't available but his equally friendly & knowledgeable associate, Johnny, was. I explained that I might be cutting it close to closing time & Johnny even offered "to stay late to get the job done for me." I didn't want to be too late because I'm needed at home, but what consideration/accommodation... =) As I rushed to SBMR & got there 5-minutes late, I was warmly greeted by Johnny, who was wrapping up with another customer. He also provided a thorough rundown of the issue(s) & opened up my iPhone to see what can be done. In the short span of 10-minutes, he showed me the difference between my screen & current/improved screen quality, explained & showed me that none of the circuitry sustained any damages, dusted the iPhone's guts, & presented several options that are in my best interest either financially &/or functionality while reassembling my iPhone. This guy is equally awesome... 1) he has interesting art on his arm (I'm not a big fan of tattoos but his was eye-catching); 2) he's honest (unlike some duplicitous auto mechanics, he could have easily done the same & "taken me for a ride" by making a recommendation for an unnecessary repair); 3) he's technically knowledgeable (explained the possible issues & provided visual examples for your assurance that the repair could be held off because I'm planning for an upgrade); 4) he's good at his craft (note above list of what was accomplished in 10-minutes); 5) he's customer-centric (offered to stay after-hours to look into my issue; dusted my phone as he was working out my connectivity issue; I asked what was the cost for the issue exploration & he waived fee for "opening my phone," most places I know would charge you just for opening up the phone, & tag on additional charges based on the issue even if they can't fix it). South Bay Mobile Repairs now has a permanent retail location in the same plaza as Fresh Choice Market, so you can drop-in or make an appointment. SBMR is adjacent & south of Lulu's Barber-Stylist, & west of Fresh Choice Market. Since they're located away from the grocery store, there's plenty of parking in the back. Like I said before...
