This place gets mostly great reviews, and I can see why. Numerous buffet options (no desserts) and a drink for $13.50 is a pretty good deal. There is plenty of seating and they do a good carry out business too. Very friendly staff. 3 large aquariums of fish are not tomorrow's sushi. They don't serve sushi. Seems like plenty of parking, but the business had no sign and could be missed, so I added a pic of the building. I'll go again next winter when I am down here. read more

The food taste as bad as the restaurant looks. I have never walked out of a restaurant and wished I had eaten at the McDonald's that's is beside of there until now. It's so dirty and just ghetto. Holes in seats and beat up walls and tablecloths and carpeting is filthy. Smelled musty. I wanted to leave as soon as I walked in but my husband was hungry. They had two small (6ft) or so bars. No dessert. Only thing was good was the green beans. We went early when they first opened and food was hard and dry. I believe it was from the day before and reheated. So gross. People were nice. I must admit, when I first started eating here, probably in the early 2000s, I knew the restaurant as Ms. Susie's (please forgive any misspellings). What a wonderful, family-oriented, even fun place to eat! They have a smaller assortment than some Chinese restaurants, but the quality is what counts here, as each dish has its own preparation and sauce! I love both the egg drop and hot & sour soup, as well as the fried rice and plain rice options! The fresh oranges and almond cookies are also much appreciated! The only thing I would love to change is having the green beans at night as well! Their staff is also absolutely wonderful, friendly, joyous, even loving! Can't say enough about this place! When we drove into the restaurant at 5:45 on Friday, and there were only 2 cars in the parking lot, I should have known better!!! The buffet had a very limited selection and no shrimp on the line. Chicken wings were over cooked to the point they to hard to eat. My wife said the fried rice was good and I had the noodles. I love egg drop soup, and could not finish mine. Wow! The exterior is pretty unassuming but we are so glad we stopped by! There are two small steam tables which means there's a pretty quick turnaround on the food. It's constantly coming fresh from the kitchen. The people running the place are friendly, warm and attentive. While we were there we noticed the huge number of regular customers. Don't pay any mind to the exterior of the building bc it will definitely foul you. The food was the best Ive had in a very long time. Didn't know what to expect, just wanted Chinese food in the area and this one had the most *, which was only 3.7, so I went with it. Drove in from Mobile and met my party that was in the area. Mrs. Sue's little buffet might be on the smaller side, but it packs a punch. When I want a Chinese buffet, I want the essentials, not pizza, mac & cheese and chicken nuggets. I'm also about quality over quantity. South China Restaurant has all of the favorites of the West. The general and honey (or lemon, depending) chicken sauces are incredible on the pallet and I highly recommend both. Everything is fresh as long as you are there during high traffic time, which is most of the time considering there are folks in and out grabbing to go orders while I'm dining in. The fried rice is great with a little mushrooms topped over them (plus a little of their sauce). Tasty egg rolls and wontons, plus those great sugar topped Chinese doughnuts. I now drive from Gautier to Mrs. Sue's restaurant, and pass many, many other Chinese restaurants along the way... it's that good to me. There is also a menu that you can order off of that is not on the buffet. I've been so satisfied with the quality and consistency of this buffet, I have yet to try any other dishes the restaurant offers. We wanted to visit this restaurant for a nice evening of ethnic food. Turns out we had trouble finding the building since there is no sign identifying it. We drove around the building to find many areas of disrepair and considerable amount of trash outside. It did not appear to be a good place to eat from the overall appearance. Black slime was running off the building off the roof. Not recommended. read more

This was an outstanding experience for my entire family. From teenagers to my 80-year-old father, there was something for everyone. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the aquariums really add to the Decour. The interior of the restaurant is clean and the wait staff is courteous and accommodating. Now to the food. Great food at a great price!!! I have been eating South China, or Ms Sue's (the owner) as we call it, food for years and is now the only Chinese food I will eat on this coast. She had a restaurant in another part of west Gulfport for years so I have been eating it for well over 30 years. Go on a weekly basis and food is always hot, fresh and good. The fried rice actually taste like FRIED rice. I love that the General TSO's is not spicy. Customer service is great. Although, she can come off as cold or rude Ms. Sue is far from it. Every time we go in she ask about our families and has even slipped in free stuff from time to time. The food is very consistent because she has had the same cook for years. The Owner yelled at my 10 year old son for dropping his food off the severing spoon and picking it up with his hand and placing it in his to go container. I politely said, " I'm his parent, please speak to me about my child." She's a nasty old lady and we passed a few words. After fixing our containers I paid via MC and when she handed me the card back she said in her nasty broken English for me to never return, to which I replied please give me my money back and keep your food we don't want it! She refused to give me my money back and didn't give me a receipt! Told me and my two children to get out! Long and short I had to call my bank to get the charges disputed! I found this place shortly after my favorite Chinese restaurant in D'Iberville closed. This one is a bit of a drive for me, but worth it. The selection is not as big as the super-buffets, but each dish is cooked very well. My favorite item, and the thing I base my ratings on for the most part is the hot and sour soup. Theirs is great. I have seen a few bad reviews calling out the owner. I have always found her friendly and polite. However, I have seen her call out a customer for rude and irresponsible behavior at the buffet tables. Thankfully, she also removed the bin of food from the table immediately after that kid stuck his hand in it. Typical Chinese buffet. Food was ok. Could have had a bigger selection of food to choose from. I got a to go plate which they weight by the pound. It's a buffet so most of the food I picked was not hot. But the checkout lady took the cake for me. I don't know who told her she was funny but for some reason she thought she could joke with me. She was on the phone talking over my plate which is a "black" no-no. And this crazy lady opened up another customers to go plate to show me which was so hilarious that it was crazy. I have been eating at this restaurant since right after they opened post Hurricane Katrina and just recently realized that a lot of people did not know the owners used to have a very popular restaurant on Broad Avenue in Gulfport which was vaporized by the storm. My wife and I used to eat lunch buffet once a week when I worked in the evening. Now we go when we can. The selection at lunch is not huge but it is fresh and great taste to go along with the very reasonable price. The two of us under $15.00 for lunch buffet. Get there before noon or you will wait. Not a very large seating area. They also do a big take out business. The owner and employees are very nice. The only negative things I can think of are I wish they would get better furniture and eating utensils. I kid my wife that we should bring a knife and fork from the house.
