I realize we picked Sunday lunch on Father's Day to visit. It was very busy. But it was just crazy. We waited, and it wasn't just us, for a server to come to our table just to take the drink order. Since we had waited about 15 mins, we were able to provide our meal choice at the same time. The food came out about 15 to 20 mins later. It was hot, which was great but the fried chicken was very dry and the mash potatoes had no flavor. The rest of the order was just ok. Our server was zipping around trying to handle several different tables and we did understand it was busy. However, we tried 4 different times to catch her attention to ask for more tea and water. She was walking right past us and we were actively waving our hands and calling to her. On the fifth pass, she finally acknowledged us. We asked for a refill. Instead of stating she would be right back, we got a lecture as to how busy she was. But she would come back with the drinks. 20 mins later, and 4 tables of food and drinks, we gave up. We never got a refill. We waved down a very helpful busboy for a to go box. We boxed up the rest of our lunch and left so that we could have a beverage with our meal. Maybe it was the wrong day but the service was awful. Even the lady who checked us out was just down right grumpy. So much for customer service. Skip it. Very pleased with the food and the service. We don't often go to this type restaurant as y wife does not care for them but she was impressed with them. We were in a group of about 30 and we were there during nomal lunch time. Orders were taken as people arrived instead of waiting for the entire crowd. Wait staff did a great job handling our group and their normal crowd. Generous portions of nicely seasoned food. I had the country style steak that cut with a fork, rice and gravy and green beans. All very good. Wife's fried chicken was the best she has had eating out. Two full plates and an extra dessert for $20 and change. Will go back. read more

We were a bit concerned walking in , as its not your average eatery in Greenville SC area. We were pleasantly surprised though. The place was like walking into 1975 and in a good way ! Very reasonable prices, and food was outstanding ! We both had the classic meat and three dishes and were completely satisfied ! Country Style Steak, mashed taters, Mac n Cheese, and Peach cobbler were all 100% on point. Fried Chicken, and Salad Bar were delicious and fresh ! Saw this place on Yelp and wanted to give it a try. Man, are we glad we did. I couldn't get over the Saturday night special. The NY strip and 2 sides for $9.50. I know it used to be $8 something from other reviews. Still a great deal. Service was great and very friendly. Food came out lightning fast. The steak melted in my mouth and the potato was nice and soft. Really, for the money you absolutely can't beat this restaurant. This restaurant has stood the test of time and isn't trendy or fashionable but is just what the doctor ordered. Great food at a great price. We will be back for sure. read more

We tried this restaurant on the Sunday. We did not have the Buffet. We ordered off the menu and it was very good so good we had to wait a little while. Not long and it was certainly worth the wait. The food is excellent, service was extremely fast, and everything was piping hot. My husband ordered the "hamburger steak, Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and turnip greens. I ordered the fried chicken breast, and three different veggies. His macaroni and cheese was fabulous, so good I left him some. His meat and vegetables were very tasty. My fried chicken breast was large, juicy, and so big I took most home for another meal. We will be coming back here on a regular basis! read more

Not only is this the Bomb in home style cooking, but we got to enjoy senior plates and Child plates and weren't seniors or children. We told the waitress we were in a bit of a hurry (thought this was a buffet but Yelp classified it incorrectly). We enjoyed chicken and dumplings, which were just what the doctor ordered--just like I remember eating as a kid. Cabbage, greens, and the best corn bread I have had in years!! Fast, friendly, and fresh out of the oven. If I am ever in the area again, I am so going back here. I rarely give five stars, but this hole in the wall dive was exceptional southern cooking. I don't usually say anything about how unhappy I am with a business unless it gets to be happening more an more. I had been looking forward to getting the whole catfish for over a week and we get there sn after we placed our orders the very nice waitress comes back to me and says they are out of the catfish. I don't know if she saw it in the upset look I had on my face,but she apologized a few times. I looked on the menu and decided to get something they had on special. Whatever you do ,don't settle for something that is on special. I couldn't finish my meal because I started to have the worst pain in my stomach. Anyway before we could get home I told my wife to find a place she could pull over. I don't want to say what I did so I'll leave it to the imagination . This week I had the fried flounder. Great portions, fried perfectly, I ordered mine served with hush puppies, crinkle cut French fries and coleslaw. It was very good. Great food! This is the kind of food Grandma would've cooked. The downside is that we went on a Sunday afternoon & had to fight the church crowds. Church people are great, but undisciplined kids are not. The restaurant Emma's filled with babies & toddlers who needed discipline. It's very hard to enjoy such great food with all the crying babies & toddlers. I would not go back for Sunday lunch to avoid parents who cannot make their children behave, but I would most certainly eat there on other days. read more
