However, I don't think the staff knows or cares about what happens once people leave their facility. I work in a nearby business and oftentimes, there is debris scattered along the pathway from the MSC to the DayCenter. People take clothing, food, toys and other items and then just dump it on the pathway or into the vegetation. It is unsightly, first of all, and a waste secondly. I have clients who come into my office and can see this debris and it doesn't lend itself to an agency that you would think would want to be highly esteemed. For a couple of weeks, I saw someone cleaning up the area which was great. A fence was recently installed and now folks just simply throw things under the fence. Today there is a suitcase by the fence, clearly kicked underneath the fence. When I called the MSC to let them know, they just said that they take donations but they don't pick things up. It feels like the staff should either talk to the "consumers" about taking only what you need or send someone to walk through our little neighborhood to collect the things that were dumped. Our clients don't litter on their property. I was taught to not litter. It's ridiculous that my employers have to go out there and pick up after these people. Who does this? Who takes things that were freely given and then dumps it on the pathway. I don't understand. I appreciate that the resource is available. I just wish the staff would have more accountability in picking up after their people.

Great volunteer opportunity for people of all ages…read more This warehouse is a food distribution center that is used to sort bulk food into family-sized portions. There are two large rooms where the work takes place and each can hold up to 60 volunteers (120 people total). The shifts are all 2 hours long with the first 30 minutes allowed for preparation activities like putting on hairnets and getting an introduction to the facility and the work. At that point, depending on whether the shift is full, you separate into two teams. On my most recent volunteer shift our group was working with oats. Once we were in the work room, each person chose a job. Some scooped oats into bags, others secured the bags closed with tape and put them in boxes, a few replenished oats for the teams, and a small set moved the bags of oats between the scooping table and the boxers. The 90 minutes of actual work time flew by very quickly as people got to know each other and got into a work rhythm. Upon completion of the work, we spent time cleaning the floors and tables and then took a group photo with a sign revealing how many meals we bagged. NW Harvest provides an organized, quick, and inspiring experience for volunteers and I highly recommend a visit.

There are small lockers for free in the gathering room to store your belongings. You can volunteer by yourself or plan a group volunteer event. I've been volunteering on behalf of Boeing for a while now it's always a ton of fun! There is ample free parking as well in their lot.

We originally signed up for a specific child and that child aged out of the program then they auto set us up for another one, then another - no specific opportunity on our part in the selection process, we decided to stop. Well - that is VERY hard to do! First off you can't do it in the system - there isn't an Auto stop feature, you are required to call in, then there are scripts about the impact on the person you sponsored to attempt to retain. The call to stop took just over 7 minutes, the chat feature took about 2 minutes. If you sign up here be prepared to have to call in - which is actually nice to deal with a human so I did 2 stars for that.

I joined because I wanted the personal relationship this seemed to promise. At first I got photos of her with the gifts I sent her, but soon I didn't get photos unless I sent monetary gifts. No photos were provided when I sent packages through the mail. A couple of years ago they changed her address without informing me. I had made pre-printed address labels, so didn't realize the presents were going to the wrong address until one of my gifts was returned in the mail a year later. I don't know what happened to the other gifts. I sent more packages to the correct address over a year ago, but got no response. This week I got an email that said my child's community has "graduated". They included a film that showed the community has clean water and some sanitary facilities, but not a lot else. I know my child went to school, but don't know if the school will continue, what the children have been learning, or what sort of medical care they may receive in the future. There used to be an email where I could write with questions or complaints, but now I can't find it in their emails or on their site. They provide a number to call. I called and waited on hold. I got an overly chatty but rather glib man who told me my child didn't receive the last few packages I sent, that I should've called sooner, and that they are not responsible for the mail in Nicaragua. (I reminded him that my child is in Haiti.) I went to a lot of trouble to mail these things and am so disappointed. He told me I can send her a final email, but no further letters, monetary gifts or packages. I am really disappointed that this was done with no prior notice. My sponsored child is only 12. I had purchased other gifts to send her and now don't know what to do with them. The whole thing is too abrupt. I feel that World Vision has abandoned both my sponsored child and myself without sufficient advance notice or information. I also learned on this call that they've already discontinued my monthly donation to my child, and transferred it to another child in a different country without my permission. This was not clear in the emails they sent me. I told them to stop the donation as I don't want to repeat this experience. It's probably a better use of funds just to donate to a charity that provides food, education or healthcare without promising a "personal connection." Your money will be better spent, and your sponsored child won't wind up feeling abandoned.

Dealing with Tamera was the one of the top 5 worst experiences I've had in my life…read more This is a SHADY rescue that I DO NOT recommend! I can relate to all of the other negative reviews. When I called to inquire about adopting a puppy Tamera sounded as if she cared. She seemed knowledgeable & acted like she cared about the dogs she was putting up for adoption. After I agreed to adopt the puppy she asked if I'd like to also adopt the older male dog that was her kennel mate. I agreed. It all turned bad after I put in my application & provided many photos of my home. She quit calling back when she said she would. She then moved up the date to meet for pick up. She explained that the male was getting neutered & said I could get the pups on Saturday instead of the original day, Sunday. She told me she would text last night to give me a meet up date/time. I was up late last night & was wondering if I was even going to get them, because she started being horrible about getting back to me & just kept telling me "I work 18 hours a day." I had even offered to drive to Auburn from Ocean Shores to pick up the pups. She refused & insisted we meet up. After failing to text me last night she finally texted this morning & provided a place to meet up & gave a time of 4:30 pm. Just as we were walking out the door she called to change the time to 6 pm & informed that the male is infected with "Coccidia"...a worm. I wouldn't even have been able to see the dogs at 6 pm at night! She took the male in to be neutered on Friday knowing full well he was infected with a parasite! She stated that she had been treating him for 3 days & then said "the puppy doesn't show any signs of it, but I treated her anyway." My roommate was present, I was on speaker phone, so he is a witness to EVERY conversation. She was informed, during the interview, that we had just had to have our chi/mix that we had for 10 years put to sleep on 12/7 due to cancer of the lining of her stomach. Well, a puppy can EASILY get dehydrated & die from Coccidia! If these puppies had died, I would've been EVEN MORE devastated, because I just lost my beloved dog. What I'm really wondering is why she didn't tell me 3 days ago? My roommate finally said "enough is enough, there is something wrong with this rescue, call & talk to her & if she doesn't offer to make this right just cancel." I was so excited about getting the pups! I had so much time, money & emotions into buying their supplies, setting up for them, getting the food she recommended, etc. I was staying up late nights stressing about everything to be all prepared for them. I was watching updated training videos & had invested a lot. I can't even return the food, or the expensive crate (she told me to get a larger one than what I originally ordered). When I called to discuss this with her she didn't even apologize, she YELLED at me & was so unreasonable! I have text messages for proof. She told me that she was "transparent" with me. If she were transparent she would've been HONEST about the dog being infected with parasites 3 days prior to today! I have a genetic autoimmune disease & my immune system is compromised due to the meds that I take, I told her that during the interview. Some types of Coccidia can be transmitted from dogs to humans. Changing of times, failure to contact me on many occasions, were all understandable. HOWEVER, HER FAULURE TO BE HONEST ABOUT THE HEALTH OF THE DOGS WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE! When I called her I expected professionalism, I thought she might apologize & offer to hold the dogs until she was sure they were cleared of the parasites... No, she immediately got agitated & YELLED at me! She then admitted that the puppy had some loose stools & when I asked, she informed that they had just been rescued 2 weeks ago. I had adopted my Chi/mix from a rescue through Petfinder, previously, & it was a wonderful experience, so I didn't expect any issues. I will definitely be researching any rescue I work with after this NIGHTMARE! She doesn't have the pets welfare in mind, because she told me not to take the puppy outside until she was 7 months old & her immune system was fully developed. Yet, she put a 3 1/2 month old puppy with a 1 year old Chi/mix that is infected with parasites! If you read the other reviews, her neglect has caused dogs to die from Parvo! Then, she sent nasty texts lying about everything that took place & had the nerve to say "good luck adopting a dog." Tamera is ruining it for people who want to adopt to save animals lives & provide loving homes because they won't be able to trust rescue agencies after the emotional roller coaster she puts people through. Then she is emotionally & verbally abusive after all of her failures to simply be honest! Why is she allowed to work in this field? She should be charged with animal cruelty & neglect! In fact, I am calling the police & I am going to research every animal protection agency I can to report her!

Today the holiday spirit was manifested by all who serves here, from a friendly staff to welcome you with coffee and a smile to all the people in our community who walk in and offer a super surprise donation, to our fellow neighbors with hearts a brimming about giving a damn about someone else with direction for how each new station works and one best part around the holidays is the eggnog, well this place has it and soft, butter rolls, check! Plus, it's time for the butternut squash, carrots and potatoes and yes! They have that and so much more! Really, I must of saved over 150$ in great grocery meal deals today and I can come back again! They help families twice a month! But don't take my word for it! Come on down and bring a picture ID and a proof of address for each member of your household, whether your related or not you can be happy here!

The office area is a disaster (and probably a fire & health hazard as well). Aged stacks of paperwork floor to ceiling. No system or place for working or filing. Dead plants, old dusty Christmas displays, expired food, ancient paperwork... this and more clutters the back office, making it near impossible to find things (lost the list of children who needed backpacks for example), work comfortably, or stay on top of needed paperwork. They could deliver on the mission so much more effectively & efficiently if someone would just clean, purge, and organize. Many have offered (me included) - it seems as if the Executive Director has some combination of founder's syndrome or hoarding disorder that is impeding any movement on the massive clutter. God bless the employees & volunteers who keep this place running despite the chaos. It can't be easy!
