Came home last evening to find my house was 80 degrees. Not good! Fell asleep with all the windows open and every fan in the house blowing to cool off. At 9 am this morning, I called McGraw Mechanical. Travis was out here two hours later. He was professional, charismatic, and most importantly, really good at his job. I told him that my outside unit wasn't moving, he went out there, took the door off, and said "Aha!" Now, at noon, my house is humming with sweet, sweet air conditioning. My furnace impended carbon monoxide, shut furnace down per instructions from Fire Chief Rockwell, called South Lyon Heating and Cooling and he gave us estimate of around $2,800, plus $200 service call, to change heat exchanger which was covered by furnace warranty I will say he was getting parts quickly but charging us for the parts. We called Swift Heating and Cooling and the job was completed for $800 and they secured parts, waited longer but they made sure we had heat until job was completed. read more

In the past, South Lyon Heating & Cooling was reliable. However, my experience was different this weekend. Yesterday, November 30, I noticed a "chemical" smell emanating from the air ducts. I promptly contacted South Lyon Heating & Cooling and asked for emergency service as I was worried that the furnace issue could be a potential fire hazard. Matt came out and stated that my capacitor was running at 6.5, as opposed to 7.5. He stated that it would eventually need to be replaced. I was also told that the overall condition of the furnace was okay, and that he didn't know what was causing the odor. This morning (December 1), I noticed the smell again around 2:30 AM. Soon enough, it got colder. Lo and behold, my furnace was no longer working and there was no display on the thermostat. I contacted South Lyon Heating & Cooling before 8 AM and explained the situation in detail. And yes, I reminded them that they were here YESTERDAY. After waiting over three hours, Matt finally reached out and said that he could come out on TUESDAY. I decided that was unacceptable and I will not be contacting them again! read more

The motor on the furnace went out before my scheduled appointment. I called to inform them that we had no heat and they came out earlier. Travis is always professional and explains everything. We have an air duct that doesn't blow air. We reached out to have them take a look, they mentioned nothing of a fee and based on what I usually see I assumed a free estimate. My wife the week prior adjusted the dampers she could find and got air blowing everywhere but the one (we had previously had 2 not blowing). When SL Heating & Cooling came, she showed them everything she had done and for the most part we showed them everything that we knew where the ducts ran. There was one spot where he had to open a vent and could tell that it looked like two pipes left the bigger duct but he could see where they went, so he said we would have to cut into the drywall to access the dampers because he couldn't reach those. I agreed and for the holes he had to make I figured I could fix after. Turns out the duct in question had been capped off because they added a room when building and took out a wall that contained that vent. I know this is not SL H& CS fault, but there was nothing they could do, so I figured I would have to pay the "labor" charge that the man told me I would have to for him to cut into the wall, I could have done this, but figured he should get something for his efforts picturing it to be $60-100. (Again with no mention of price) when he was done writing the invoice, they wanted $254.00 ($189 for coming-never mentioned, and $65 for labor). So for $254 I have a vent that doesn't work, and a mess to clean up where the drywall was cut out. (Also, this is what they charged for 30 min) I did reach out to them about working something out to knock a little down and received no response. So at least if you read this and still choose them, you will be aware that it's $189 for them to peek, even if you show them everything and then $70/hour for what they do, or in this. Are, are unable to do. Not happy and will be doing what I can to make sure others surrounding me do not use these guys, though if they respond and do something I will take this down. I grew up in this town and still have a lot of connections and am on our neighborhood board as well and will be recommending against them. The guy was nice, but for the end result and what was paid for me just having no fix(actually more problem) and they didn't even have equipment for scoping the vents that they had at some point, is why I mentioned in my rating that they were inefficient or unprepared, inadequate tools, etc. Thanks read more

Great company. I called 4 different ones in South Lyon and they were the only ones that could see me on the same day. Tyler was here in less than an hour, he came in and assed the situation gave me a quote and fix a problem I've had with my heat for years that other companies could not or did not do. it wasn't my igniter that was wrong it was the instrument panel that was bad and keeping the igniter on power 24/7 and had to replace the igniter over 10 times in 20 years prior to Tyler looking at it. We had one of their service guys come out to look at our combo boiler and we couldn't be happier, they educated us on our system and told us what to look out for in the future for problems. Also after speaking with the service guy he was telling he how invested the owner was in the employees and the company. Matt did an excellent job addressing a problem with the igniter on a VERY old unit. An original replacement part was not an option. Matt went to the shop and developed several workable options which he brought by for trial. One of his concepts worked perfectly....but he didn't stop there. He cleaned the sensor and checked the filters. It made for a late night but he was not cutting corners to put the job behind him. The price for his work was very reasonable. He will be bringing a replacement filter by tomorrow and we will be giving S. Lyon H&C the job putting in a new unit later this year. Woke up to no heat. Called this company at 7am and got on schedule but without a specific time. I tried calling around to get someone out faster and called them mistakenly under a different name (surprise!). The person answering the phone threatened to cancel me if I was going to continue to call around. I apologized and asked to stay on the schedule. The service tech showed up at 9:40...not bad. He said the igniter and board were bad after less than 10 minutes of inspecting. He indicated it would be covered under warranty initially and then changed his tune later and hit us with a $900 quote. We declined any further service and contacted another company. They did their job and found a couple loose wires with nothing else wrong. The charge was minimal. Beware of this company and their poorly trained staff!! read more

$199.00 service call. Told I need new motor. I was told the motor would be $200 and would take about 10 minutes to install ($40.00). Next morning I received call that the motor would be $299.00 and would take two hours (@$99 per hour to install. I went on line and found motor 15 miles away at $83.00 and installed myself by taking out 4 sheet metal screws and putting them back in. Not a pleasant experience. Shoddy workmanship. If you want a professional job call someone else. this company is not up to the task. Had to hire another contractor to come behind them to repair the damage they did to the duct work. Thank God for a solid manufactures warranty, they damaged the outside coils on the AC when they installed it, Call them 3 times to come out to check why it wouldn't cool after 3 days. No one answered the phone or returned my phone call. It was worth paying another contractor to do the repairs! Do yourself a favor pass this contractor up. read more

After dealing with the company that installed our Lenox air conditioner (brand new built house only two years ago) we were forced to find someone else. For three days we had temps of 84 degrees overnight in our house with promises that someone would come help us out. After running out of patience we reached out to McGraw and they came the same day and fixed our issue. I will say for a two year old air conditioner it wasn't a cheap fix. I hoped they would help with warranty because two years seems ridiculous. I was told it had to be the company that did the install - I knew that wasn't going to happen. That's the only reason I don't give a 5 star, and maybe that really isn't reasonable or McGraw's fault for not helping with the warranty. I will say, if we ever have another issue or need more work done I won't hesitate to call McGraw. read more

Stay as far away from McGraw Mechanical as possible! I have a Bryant furnace and was having some trouble with it. I called the folks who installed the unit, Neighborhood Heating and Cooling, and someone from McGraw Mechanical answered the phone. Apparently, Neighborhood had closed and McGraw took over their business. I had them come out to look at my furnace, and they recommended I have the electrical component board replaced. The furnace was installed when we built the house in 1993. Two visits and $500 later, my furnace was running again. But only for three weeks, then it started acting up again. I just had them back out, and the owner said the electrical board they installed was fried, and that the furnace needed replacing. They said a small condensation leak had dripped water onto the new board and cooked it. I asked why they didn't recognize this leak before they asked me to spend $500, and they said the leak must have started sometime since the board was replaced. Really? The owner refused to refund or replace the board, and suggested instead that I let them install a new furnace for $2,500. Why would I give you more money, I asked? You won't stand behind the work you did just three weeks ago? He said he was giving me a discount, and that the new furnace happens to be on the trailer, and they can install it right away. What a coincidence. No thanks. I asked them to leave and said I would find someone else to fix my furnace. I had a very uneasy feeling about this entire episode. The guy who replaced the board originally seemed nice enough. But this owner seemed untrustworthy. He even refused to discuss the issue with me, and retreated to his truck, until I demanded of his assistant that he come back into my house to resolve this. Needless to say, if you are looking for a competent, trustworthy HVAC specialist in the Brighton, South Lyon Michigan area, look elsewhere. read more
