I saw Dr. Goei here several years ago for a consult about a tooth that was bothering me. He recommended I remove it, the consult was $150 and was five minutes, not including a video he played at the consult. the house looks nice for a reason, it's because they rip their patients off. My fiancé was referred here by our primary dentist. He needs four wisdom teeth taken out. I read other reviews prior to our visit and patients complained about consultation fees and such. My fiancé came by himself during consultation and paid $150 for it. I took him to his actual appointment since he will be having anesthesia. Parking lot was easy to find which is in the back. There's only a few spaces though. I love how this is an actual house. Just love the atmosphere and layout. The receptionist was friendly and she explained everything such as what's due today and how insurance may or may not cover another portion, and we might receive an additional bill afterward. My fiancé and I don't have the same dental insurance and for me, every time I receive services with my primary dentist, she will provide me a quote and there's no additional fee that I'll have to pay later. I can also see what she submitted on the web portal and how much insurance will cover. If there is a fee I'll have to pay, she always told me up front and how much. For my fiancé, I believe his dental insurance doesn't cover as much as mine. I wonder if this is why we don't know the exact pricing? For reference I have Delta Dental and they are amazing! No complaints with that. But to be clear, the receptionist mentioned this and it's also on the document you are signing so I am aware and won't be surprised later. They took him and I waited about an hour and a half in the consultation room. Afterward I met up with him in the back where they walked him out to my car. The other lady also gave me instructions on after care and a bag with items he will need. I'm glad my fiancé picked up his medication a day before so he has it with him already. They also gave us one of four wisdom tooth that was taken out. I wonder how much tooth fairy is going to give me for this! Overall so far we have a great experience. What a relatively pleasant experience. The staff was friendly, helpful and kind. The doctor, professional, and kind. Honestly, the facility is beautiful and clean and the staff kind and professional, including Dr. Goei. However, I can not recommend this place. I was referred by my dentist to see Dr. Goei for oral surgery to remove one wisdom tooth. When I called to schedule an appointment for a consultation, I offered my dental insurance information (Delta Dental - PPO) and was told that it was "not necessary." When I arrived for my consultation I was told in the **middle** of my consult that I would be charged a $160.00 consultation fee. I was completely unprepared for this and asked why I had not been informed prior-to, or even at check-in, to which I was not given an answer. They asked if I could pull up my credit card number on my iPhone which I thought was tacky, unprofessional and pushy. I then gave them all of my insurance information and was told that my insurance would reimburse me the fee. However, in order to not forego the consultation altogether, they allowed me to proceed with the appointment after we agreed that I would pay the $160 fee on a specific date. After my consultation, I was provided with the cost of the extraction which was $2,050 for ONE wisdom tooth under general anesthesia. I couldn't believe my eyes!!! I asked if they ran my insurance to which they replied "yes," and informed me that it is estimated that my insurance would cover $500.00 of the total surgery fee, and that it was high "because of the anesthesia." A few days passed and it was the date that I was supposed to call and provide payment over the phone for the $160.00 fee. My intention was to call after I was off of work at 3:30 PM, but the office staff called my phone and left two messages within a two-hour timeframe in an attempt to "collect." At this point I had, had it. I called, provided my credit card info and paid the fee, but expressed how I did not appreciate the fact that they were not upfront and forthright about the consultation fee, and that I thought it was not best practice to conduct business this way with their patients. The staff member then tried to convince me that I was advised ahead of time, which I promise you I was not, because had I known, I would have been completely prepared. To make matters even WORSE, I asked the staff to reconfirm that they ran my insurance. She confirmed that they did. At that point, I asked her to run it again, and she finally confessed that I was out of network and that they did not take my insurance! WHAT?! Essentially this means that they were being dishonest the whole time and were trying to gaslight me into thinking I was in the wrong when the entire time I was being lied to. Unethical. The staff were extremely nice and professional; however, I would NEVER come back to this office for any type of procedures. I was referred to this place by my son's dentist as he needed a tooth extraction and I fully trusted their referral. That was my mistake. I should have done my research for oral surgery practice's around the area. Their prices are VERY UNETHICAL, they gave me a breakdown of what my insurance (Delta Dental -PPO) would cover and the price I would pay. Since this was my first time at an oral surgeon I didn't know the average cost of this procedure and I just assumed this was the going rate because as mentioned before I trusted my son's dentist referral. When I received what my insurance actually covered vs their "estimate" insurance cost it was nothing but comical. DO NOT believe what they're telling you on their estimate because it will be NO WHERE CLOSE!! I would have been fine if it were a few hundred dollars off, but over $1,500 is criminal!! I was duped and it was my own fault for lack of researching. On the bright side, the procedure went well and my son said they were extremely nice to him throughout the process. However when I get lied to and by reading all these other reviews with the same experience, I just cannot recommend this place as I just feel I was scammed. It's not like they never dealt with Delta Dental before and this was just a tooth extraction with general anesthesia, nothing out of the ordinary. I know my insurance has great coverage because I have dental procedures done to myself and I rarely, if ever pay out of pocket. They knew my insurance would not cover x amount and that's what I do not like. So, thanks but no thanks. Highly recommend this place-I've always passed by it, and finally decided to try their services. I got referred to this place from my dentist across the street! Initially I went in for a biopsy, and decided I may as well get my wisdom teeth out (my dentists have been nagging me about it for a while now heh). My appointment was first thing in the morning, the interior of the building matches the outside, it doesn't come off as a dental office but more as a home. The customer service was spot on, they made sure I was comfortable-bringing me a blanket for the IV insertion and distracting me with a constant flow of conversation (they could tell I was nervous!) They were great with answering any questions I had regarding the procedure and even the day after on the phone. They gave me a small bag to put my glasses in, but also included: a toothbrush, chapstick, and 2 gel pads that could be used as ice packs or heating pads as well as a list of instructions in regards to aftercare! 10/10 they were so nice and patient read more

I was recommend by my primary dentist because I had to have 3 wisdom teeth removed that had a very high chance of nerve damage. Went to two different dentists in my network and both said it was almost certain I would have nerve damage. Told my primary dentist and she referred me here with doctor Stephen coei and she let me know he's handled many sensitive cases. I scheduled an appointment and The receptionists were friendly and told me on the spot how much my insurance covered and the fees. Even though this wasn't in my network, I went with him because he made me feel at ease during the appointment. Has the procedure done and all the nurses and doctor were great! First of all everyone was very nice - over the phone and also at my appointment. So I'm not going to criticize that. However, I rang to make an appointment to have 4 wisdom teeth removed. I do not have insurance so when I called I asked how much the cost would be, & I was told $346 for the initial x-ray and consultation and between $483 and $762 per tooth for the surgery. Based on this I made the appointment for the initial consultation fully thinking I would go ahead with the work at a cost of between $2278 and $3394 TOTAL. After this consultation I was presented with the cost of the surgery at $1000 more than the quoted highest total. When I asked why I was told that the quote didn't include anesthesia. Well, there is a reason I asked how much it would cost! So I could budget and see if we could even afford it. I am beyond pissed that I even went to this place and wasted money on the initial consultation as if they'd told me it would cost the best part of $4500 I would have gone to the other oral surgery practice my dentist recommended which actually did quote me $3500 worst case scenario and probably more like $2500 based on my x-rays. I'm not disputing the cost - charge what you think is correct - but at least don't make up numbers when I specifically asked how much it would be so that I could budget for this. Beware of this place. I went here after I was referred by my dentist to take out my wisdom teeth. I had taken full mouth x-rays at my primary dentist, who said that the x-rays would be sufficient for the referee (Goei) to work off of, and that additional xrays wouldn't be needed. I was told upon arrival that I would need another set of X-rays done, which they said they would charge me for of course. I called my primary dentist and they said that the ones were a full-mouth xray, just like Goei was asking for. When I insisted that this is what my dentist said, Goei flipped the ball and said that I then needed a full mouth "panel," which seemed to reveal exactly what my xray had done anyways and of course, that I would have to pay for that too. It is still absolutely mind-boggling to me that another set was needed. I'd be keen to see what my primary dentist would say to this office once he knew these details. I met Dr. Goei for approximately 6 minutes for a consultation, which he charged me about nearly $150 for, the price of which was NOT disclosed to me verbally beforehand. I am deathly afraid of the dentist. So bad that every time I go I have to take some sort of valium before I get anything done. So when my wisdom teeth started to hurt I was panicking. I called about 8 dentists that day and no one had openings to get a rush extraction done. Everyone told me the earliest opening they had was a month from now. I was in severe pain so I couldn't wait that long. I called Dr. Goei's office and the nurse told me that I could come in two days later for not only a consultation, but same day extraction. No place offered that. Everyone else told me the consultation and extraction had to be done on separate dates. For someone like me who works a 9-5 job this was a nightmare. So the fact that everything could be done on the same day really helped me. I made an appointment for a Friday morning and got the extraction that day. Im not going to lie, the wait was kind of long. But with so many people here for extractions I understand the wait. The consultation went by fast. I provided X-Rays from my dentist and he was able to use those to work with. I decided I wanted the procedure done that day. I opted for general anesthesia. Dr Goei was very gentle with the IV. He even sprays the area with numbing spray before he puts in the needle so you do not feel anything at all! After that I woke up and went home. Honestly there was not much pain. I healed within 4 days and could eat 1 week later. I went back one week later and they showed me how to clean the holes with a syringe. I have friends who have horror stories about their extraction. Ranging from intense pain afterwards to not being able to eat for 3 weeks. So the fact that I healed so fast with minimal pain was a pleasant surprise! The procedure was also not that expensive. Considering I was knocked out, I would say his prices are very good. I had all four teeth removed at once. My friends paid double for the same surgery. They were shocked when I told them the final price. They tell you straight up how much its going to cost and how much insurance will cover so there should be no surprises. After a couple of years of my regular dentist advising me to get rid of my wisdom teeth, I finally got them done. My dentist recommended Dr. Goei in South Pasadena. Consultation appointment: Staff and Dr. Goei were very friendly when I met them two weeks ago. I felt very comfortable, even though I was very nervous about the procedure. The staff answered all my questions about the costs and procedure. Since I'm a little chicken, I decided on general anesthesia, even though I only needed to get two upper wisdom teeth extracted which were already out. There's no way I want to be awake during the procedure, and I'm so glad my insurance covered it. A couple of days before the procedure, I got a phone call reminding me not to have anything to eat 6 hours before the procedure, and that I need someone to drive me home. Actual Procedure: Staff and Dr. Goei as friendly and nice today as they were a couple of weeks ago. Before they brought me to the procedure room, they went over in detail what I need to do during the recovery period. As soon as I went into the room, they started prepping, and I was glad I didn't need to wait too long. The blood pressure cuff and heart rate monitors were applied first, followed by oxygen through my nose. Dr. Goei put in the IV in my arm for my anesthesia, and I hardly felt the needle go in. That's all I remember really... don't really know what took place next. I guess I was out so fast. Next thing I knew I was awake and the procedure was over! No pain but a little drowsy. There are gauze pads on both sides of my mouth to absorb the blood since no stitches were necessary, and I'm dreading removing them later today. Recovery: So far so good. I took a nap as soon as I got home! I changed the gauze pads after about 2 hours, but still no pain. After another late afternoon nap, I removed the gauze pads, and no more bleeding! Still no pain, and my upper jaw is just faintly sore. I was prescribed two medications: antibiotics and ibuprofen. After almost 9 hours, I don't feel any pain so I'm choosing not to take the ibuprofen, but just the antibiotics. It was nice to notice that I had a message on my phone from Dr. Goei's office checking up on me! Hopefully I'll feel even better tomorrow. I definitely feel okay enough to type up this review. I dreaded getting my wisdom teeth pulled for years and Dr. Goei and his staff are awesome! I got three wisdom teeth pulled (1 was impacted) and I was in and out of the office within 35-40 minutes! The extraction process probably took about 10 minutes or less. He recommended general anesthesia and I just continued to take his medication.... after a week, I was still waiting for the pain to kick in, but no pain! Maybe I was fortunate, but this Dr. knows what he is doing and does it well! His office is clean and his staff are extremely nice and welcoming. I got referred to Dr. Goei by my dentist for my wisdom teeth surgery. I trusted his recommendation and on I went for a consult and to make a date for the removal. The place is basically a house, and the parking isn't very big..but they have street parking available. It wasn't a bad experience..so let's get that out of the way..but it wasn't great, either. The consultation was so quick..and I had to re-do my x-rays regardless of my dentist sending it their way. But...they wanted to re-do them because they couldn't see some parts. So..that was an extra $200+ I had to spend for that. The consultation was no longer than 10 minutes and..it just seemed like a waste. I did like how they gave me my prescriptions beforehand so I could have them prepared for my surgery date. Surgery was set for 9AM. I didn't get in until 9:55AM. So I was waiting for over an hour (because I arrived at 8:45) ..with a bunch of people continuously coming in and going in before me. Surgery wise was quick. I was knocked out and just remember walking out and being home in bed lol. They gave me everything I needed beforehand..extra gauze and a FAQ list. I wasn't in too much pain..but a week later, and I still feel a bit of nagging pain on my bottom right (which I understand is normal and can take up to 3 weeks.) Went for my follow-up and everything seems to be fine. They gave me a little syringe thing to keep it clean and it was also a 10 minute follow up appointment. Overall..I think the service is okay. Everyone is for the most part friendly..but I never felt really "comfortable." Just glad I got the surgery over with! read more

I can't believe that I'm Yelping a doctor's appointment, but I had a great experience here! I had an infection in my mouth and needed to get a tooth pulled! Yeah.. NO FUN!!! Well, I first drove up and parked my car in the back, not the side, of the house! Yes, it's in an old house! That was a wild feeling walking up because I felt like I was going to my friend's place! I walked in and immediately was greeted with a smile! During the consultation, I was 'interviewed' by one of the friendliest nurses! I never felt uncomfortable or business as usual. I felt that the people that I had meet so far in this visit were genuine in their friendliness. I had a big concern, My insurance. I had maxed out my dental insurance and couldn't wait for it to renew itself. I'm a teacher and my dental insurance renews itself once a year. I was worried about how big of a bill this was going to be. When Dr. Geoi came in and talked to me, I already knew that things were going to be a bit pricey. But, he never gave me the used car salesman talk about what I needed to get. He was quite practical and laid it all down in a real way. It came out to be a lot less than what I was expecting to pay!! I got my x-ray and then the surgery! One of the most fascinating things about it was when all was said and done, that really nice nurse who did the initial consultation and helped with the surgery, came back and gave me a bag of 'prizes'! I felt like a kid after the dentist going to the treasure box! I got an ice pack, tooth brush, dental floss, toothpaste, and organic lip balm! I also asked for a copy of my x-ray and they gave me a CD! I asked for a copy because it was a 3D image of my head!!! At any rate, I'm used to getting the ...Don't let the door hit you on the way out... feeling, but these people are quite kind! Because of the nature of this place, I hope to NOT return, EVER!! I got referred to this place because my dentist did not have the equipment to take out all my wisdom teeth. Wasted my time here, wish I never came. First off, i made a same day appointment, which I thought was great; however, I had to wait OVER AN HOUR to get in. They are bad in planning schedules and just want to get as much patients in as they can by making them wait a long time. They don't care about making you wait. So be prepared for a super long wait when you make any appointments I was told over the phone to come in for a consultation so i can get a quote for how much it will cost to take my Wisdom teeth out. I told them I already have the X Rays and know what i want to do and which teeth to pull out and I just needed an estimate. But they said I have to come in first to have them look at my teeth. I sent the xrays over email when I got there and waited an hour. Over the phone, they said my insurance would cover the consultation fee. Don't believe what they say over the phone. Then after the useless 10 minute consultation without even examining my teeth or xrays with me, they said i had to pay over $120 for consultation. How ridiculuous and unethical is that? You can't tell me over the phone that the fee is going to be covered and then tell me after the "consultation" that i now owe over $120. Their reply was "because I went to 2 places for exam already and that my insurance would only cover 2 visits and that they didn't know that" Uhhhh ok, during my 1 hour wait, they couldn't have told me that BEFORE the "consultation" and asked me if I was okay with that? They basically just told me it was going to be covered, brought me in, and then charged me and said yeah never mind your insurance can't cover it, pay up. Had i known before, then i wouldn't have accepted it. They are shady and unethical; they will just want to bring you in to take your money and tell you their excuses after. As far as the consultation, the dentist didn't even examine my teeth. They just showed me a video and then basically wasted 10 minutes talking about insurance, how it works, how they can't give me a guaranteed estimate and that i may have to pay more than what the insurance quoted me at. He was just sitting there arguing with me about it and was being so rude and impolite. He stated this is how ALL dental offices are. No, Not ALL dental offices perform this way and that some give you a preauthorization or quote before hand of what my expenses are and what my insurance will cover. His reply was "Then you should go there instead". Of course i will and i did. The office lady explained that the consultation fee was the Doctor going over my medical history and seeing if there would be any complications with surgery and that I wouldn't have known these things if he didn't examine me. Yeah right, that's just another lie and excuse. These medical questions are just the standard questions that every dentist office has patients fill out. The dentist did not go over anything with my teeth at all, whether it was the xrays or examining my teeth. All I had to listen to was his rude talking and arguments of how he says every dental office operates the same way; but no they do not and I know for a fact since I went to another dental office after where they gave me the costs beforehand. Definitely would not recommend this Dentist; please be aware of long wait times and costs before walking through that door. read more

The overall procedure for wisdom tooth extraction was great. The reason why 2 stars is because of business ethics. My wife had xrays from a dentist who referred her to come here for oral surgery. On day of surgery, this office indicated they did not receive the xrays yet from the referral dentist and requested we get xrays again. We said that didn't make sense cause we will be billed again but they indicated insurance would cover both xrays. I asked why not just contact the dentist to get xrays and they indicated it would take time to receive it. Trusting SPOS, we went with the xrays only to find out insurance did not cover this and the office billed us for it anyway. When asking the office about this charge they indicated we signed the dotted line and agreeed to service so there will be no refund. I'm sorry but that is horrible business ethics. The lady told me point blank at the office we would get refunded if the insurance didn't cover the xrays. Seriously, we JUST had xrays and the referral dentist. Although they may be good surgeons, unfortunately ethics is lacking. Very sad. **SEE UPDATE #2 UPDATE: Business owner responded to this review. I agree, if the way he responded was how it was explained to us we would not have any issues. HOWEVER, this was not explained to us properly and I quote word for word we were told that the insurance would cover AND if not it would be refunded/waived. We do not have any incentive to lie about this or take the time to post a review. Further, if a dentist refers you business, you should take the time to CALL and ask for the xrays even if not received. Again, as I mentioned to the email send directly to SPOMS, you have to learn how to set proper expectations with clients instead of avoiding the situation. This is called business ETHICS. A simple search on yelp with lesser reviews show that many others were upset about a similar situation with the Xrays. Learn to do business and not continue a practice if you can't have proper ethics. Thank you. UPDATE #2: The business owner took the time to email me again and explain the need for new Xrays which was not explained to us. I appreciate his professionalism and attempt to resolve the issue. The Dr/surgeon and the business owner were both sincere and I appreciate the time they took to understand my concerns. That being said, I have revised my review to 3 stars and will update again once insurance is processed to ensure fairness. It all comes down to setting expectations which I feel they are trying to do better. read more
