Had appointment for my mom at this place. Her dental insurance clearly states that she is covered for dental work here yet when they gave her an estimate of over $23,000 and stated we would be responsible for all costs it was unbelievable. I called them on 2 different days to speak to the case manager, each time the receptionist stated she would relay the message and that they would call me back. Never received any phone call or voicemail back. If they can't even return a phone call, imagine what kind of dental service they provide. I have since found a different dentist for my mom. I was debating whether I wanted to write a review for this place but after getting my "deep cleaning" today I feel that I have too. I came here for the first time in August and was told during my consultation I need a "deep cleaning" and this is something they really urged me to do. Given I hadn't been to the dentist in a year, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and scheduled an appointment for December for this service after a regular cleaning and a filling appointment over the duration of the fall. Due to recent unforeseen financial circumstances,I called today to try and get an idea on how much this was going to cost me out of pocket since I wasn't able to get an idea when the receptionist called me to confirm my appointment.. I spoke with Edwin and given the mix reviews on Yelp I was a little wary to speak with him but expressed I needed to push back my appointment after the new year due to finances after I was told my cost today was going to be about $175. But Edwin persisted and said I should use all of my benefits and they'll wave the fee for today. He said Happy Holidays from us and I was truly touched to think these people are kind enough to waive a fee for a patient who is going through a hard time. When I came in to my appointment I was hit with a $150 bill.. a little stunned and confused I asked the receptionist is this after what Edwin and I had discussed and she said yes we took care of your copayment for today. Not to dismiss the act of waiving a copayment but I explicitly expressed Im having a hard time financially and I was hit with most of the bill upon walking in. I should have walked out at that moment but again this was stressed to me numerous time I needed to have it done so I reluctantly paid. Only to have my "deep cleaning" to feel like what my previous dentist in Washington had done during my normal cleaning. I can almost laugh at the fact that I was told this is something I need to have done every 3 months... EXCUSE ME? My teeth are not in bad enough shape (respectfully) for me to be getting this type of treatment every 3 months when I've been to a dentist at least once a year for over 25 years and never once had been recommend such extensive treatment for my teeth. Isn't this why it's recommend to come for a cleaning every 6 months? Can you say money grab?! My dental hygienist (the small asian lady I'm not sure of her name) has always been sweet to me during visits with her and I wish her the best of the luck at this office but after today's treatment (both the deep cleaning and the way I feel a little taken advantage of by Edwin) I'll be finding a new dentist after the new year. read more

My wife and I were seen here back in October 2023. We loved the dentist and most of her office staff. We thought this would be our new dentist but as of January 2024 the office manager has yet to send out a treatment plan with estimates. He said he would do so back in October and we have made several calls but have yet to receive a call back. He was extremely condescending when he went over the treatment plan and wrote estimates on a sheet of paper. Like any other business transaction we expected it in writing. The worst part is that he pushed the Care Credit on us as a form of financing even though paying for it is not an issue we were trying to prioritize treatment for my wife. We canceled our follow up appointment and have been contacted by the office staff but still no response from the office manager and still no treatment plan. Total first appointment time: 3hrs 40mins My appointment was scheduled for 1pm. I arrived early at 12:50pm and there was a lady being helped in front of me, so I was told she would be with me in a minute. Once the lady in front of me was done, the receptionist said "we are on lunch until 1pm" and just left. I was so confused. I waited until 1:20 before a new lady came and escorted me to a room for my X-rays. The X-ray technician came in and didn't seem to know what he was doing. It took over an hour to get my X-rays done, so by this point it's almost 2:30pm. He still had to take photos of my teeth and I don't know why. None of this was being explained to me. The doctor came in 3x asking how much longer and he finally said 10 more minutes. It was exhausting. Dr. K finally saw me and she was very nice. She thoroughly explained my teeth and there's a lot going on. Edwin came in and broke down the cost of a deep cleaning, which I agreed to. I come to later find out that my husband paid $60 less than what I did for the same cleaning and we are on the same insurance, so who knows. Then Dr. K came back in to proceed with my cleaning. I've never had the actual dentist clean my teeth before and I thought that was weird. But she was great. Upon checking out, I had to make an appointment for an extraction and replacement. I wanted to know the costs before actually making the appointment, but no one could help with that and I made the appointment anyway. When I got home I called back to ask how much my extraction appointment would be. I spoke with Edwin again and he said to call back next week and he should have an update. When I called back I got a breakdown of the costs and it was way more money than I expected. I'm glad I called to get a breakdown because there's no way I could've afforded it without knowing. I ended up cancelling my future appointments to get a second opinion. Edwin and Dr. K were nice and professional, but everything just didn't sit right with me. WARNING! If you like bigoted, gaslighting men and poor dental work, this is the place for you. I came on here YEARS after my visit with them because I am still that mad. First, what they thought was a cavity then turned into me coming back for a root canal, then a crown, then a full on extraction. I did 4 different procedures on the same tooth with them. Their guy Edwin, lied about what my insurance would cover, upsold me to the most expensive crown and slapped me with a bill I did not expect. He gaslit me saying that's what I asked for, when I wanted a white vs silver crown and made it seem like the only option was the zirconia, most expensive crown. When I saw the bill, I noticed his mistake, told him about it and he refused to allow me to speak to his manager and repeatedly hung up on me. I had to visit the office in person to get a refund, to which he promised he would take care and didn't. A truly awful human. I also pointed a dark spot on another tooth telling one of the nurses it looked like a cavity. She confirmed it was, but he and the main dentist denied it and said it was a stain. He totally insulted the nurse and said she didn't know anything and that she's just a front desk girl. When I asked the dentist if she was a front desk girl or nurse, she said nurse. A year later I go to a different dentist that confirmed was indeed a very deep cavity. 2 years later and approx $7k down the drain of trying to fix their mistakes and this tooth is still not fixed. I have now spent cumulatively $13k on one stupid tooth extraction to be replaced. Additionally, the one cavity they did fix, was done incorrectly. There was too much space between the teeth, where food consistently gets stuck between them, and when I asked about it, they said there was supposed to be space between the teeth. I could go on and on and have emails of documentation of their lies and misinformation. NEVER GO HERE read more

Worst experience with a dentist ever. Do not come here. I REPEAT ABSOLUTELY DO NOT COME HERE. I called into to obtain a retainer because my dog ate my previous one. I developed a gap in my teeth in the meantime and I asked if they could make a retainer without the gap and they said yes. I wait a month after taking a impressions and on the day I'm supposed to pick up my retainers I get a call saying they were never sent in. I go back in get another impression and finally get my retainer. Of course the retainer has a gap and so whenever I use it the gap in my teeth remains. I call in to ask how I can get the gap fixed and am told that they can only fix the gap with their Invisalign product. I would never have ordered a retainer in the first place if this was told to me. I hate leaving negative reviews but something is off about this office. My past two cleanings, Dr. Karimyan has been MIA and I've only been examined by the hygienist. They always ask for x-rays (gotta maximize that insurance payment) and told me Dr. K would look at them when she's back in the office and call if there's an issue. I never got a call. I finally tried a new local dentist who diagnosed me with bone loss on the first visit. I find it hard to believe that the issue wasn't visible in my x-rays from 6 months ago. This used to be an amazing office until they had a lot of staff turnover during the pandemic. I went for a cleaning this time last year and there were no trained hygienists on staff. Dr. K had to do all the probing and ultrasonic scaling. Because they were running behind, she told one of these untrained hygienists to polish my teeth BEFORE the scaling - polishing is supposed to be performed on cleaned teeth. She forgot to rinse and suction, so I had to get up and rinse my mouth in the sink after she was done. At this visit, Dr. K also found a cavity and wanted to try "something new" called a zirconia inlay. My insurance did not cover this type of material but I trusted her and paid for it. It took 3-4 hours because during my procedure, Dr. K would leave me to see other patients. After it was done and applied to my tooth, it didn't feel right. It was bulky, not smooth, and I could feel a ridge along the edges because it wasn't flush with my tooth. Two months later, I developed cold sensitivity on that tooth. I called Dr. K to discuss my concerns as there were no appointments for her to do a recheck - she literally yelled at me, said I didn't appreciate her work, and told me to go somewhere else if I was unhappy. Long story short and $2500 additional later, I went somewhere else, they found severe decay under my inlay because it wasn't properly fitted, and the decay was so close to the pulp I needed a root canal with an endodontist. They had to painstakingly remove the zirconia inlay because the material is unforgiving and along with being so poorly made, they had to slowly drill in order not to crack the tooth. I have a crown implant now and there are absolutely no problems. I'm writing this review a year later, because after unsubscribing to all their emails, the office still had the audacity to send me an email to remind me it's time for my annual check up with them. Given the pandemic, it had been close to 2 years since I'd been to the dentist. Despite the mixed reviews, I decided to give Pasadena Family a shot. I called in September to schedule an appointment for my daughter and I, as new patients. I was promptly put on hold. After about 5 minutes, I was told that they were very busy and was asked if they could call me back within 30 minutes. I gave them my number. No call all day. The next day, no call; so I decided to call back myself to schedule the appointment. *Strike One* The appointment was for today. At the appointed time, my daughter and I arrive to the office and were told that our appointment(s) had been canceled. Asking why, they said that they needed confirmation of the appointment in order for it to happen. They said they called and texted my number but got no response from me. I said that there was no way they could have texted me as I received no text from them on my cellphone. They gave me the number they texted and called, and it was our landline (yes, some of us still have one). They said that they also called. I asked if they bothered to actually leave a message when they called the landline. No. They didn't. *Strike Two* There won't be a Strike Three. Go somewhere else. *Edit* With regards to the hollow response below. None of that changes the fact that you called my phone # and decided not to leave a message. Unfortunately I don't have a machine that records intentions or brainwaves, so actually vocalizing is the only way that the machine works. Don't waste your time or money here. Very unprofessional. I went here for my first appointment and spent almost an hour waiting around before they got around to seeing me. Then they only 'evaluated' my teeth, and had me come back at another time for a cleaning. I had to leave work to go there, and felt like they really didn't care about my time. They also recommended a filling that I suspected was unnecessary; I really didn't feel like I could trust them which is obviously quite important in a medical provider. For some reason, I decided to give it another chance and schedule another cleaning with them for 6 months later. They sent an automated text to confirm my appointment which I didn't respond to till the day prior. Then I found out they cancelled my appointment, and automatically rescheduled it two months later! Mixed bag. I think Dr. K is great, but someone else from my office who goes there mentioned being disturbed by how much upselling the office does. On my next visit I noticed the same thing: the hygienist -- without the benefit of x-rays or a doctor having seen me -- saying I need this and that. I did some googling once home and all agreed that the suggested treatments should be agreed to after x-rays and/or a dentist have done an exam (and doing the measurement of gum pockets, which also wasn't done during my visit). Bottom-line I realized my friend/colleague had a point and it brought to mind that during previous visits similar things happened. Indeed, one previous visit came to mind when the hygienist suggested something. Dr. K came in to examine me after the cleaning and basically said, "no...all looks good, no need for that." My husband and I have been patients here for over five years and have been, in general, very pleased with our experiences. Everyone is professional, the office is clean and tidy, and dental cleanings are thorough and efficient. The only thing preventing a five-star rating is some of the inconvenience surrounding scheduling. Dr. Karimyan's staff prefer to have you schedule your next appointment at the time they send you a six-month check-up reminder, rather than at the time you've completed your most recent cleaning service. Since it's not always easy to get an appointment (even less so now, with covid-related delays and rescheduling), it would be much better if they allowed you to make your next appointment while still at the practice. read more

I have never felt so shamed, disrespected, or scammed by a healthcare provider. I was assigned this "dentist" by my insurance, so I called to make an appointment for a check-up. I was told that I would have to wait a month. When I finally got in, I had already filled out my information but was then told to do so again- they had misplaced the info I had painstakingly provided through a link sent to my phone. When I was finally seen, I was x-rayed and examined, but no cleaning was done, unlike what I had scheduled. Then, when I called back, the woman who answered the phone was extremely rude and dismissive and told me to call back another day. So I waited a few days, then called back. The woman who answered again was extremely rude and dismissive and asked me to hold, so I did. Then, when Edwin got on, he told me that I needed almost 10k in dental work done and that my teeth and gums were in terrible shape. He kept using derogatory and offensive language about my dental health and made me feel awful. When I asked why I was not given a cleaning, he said my appointment was a consultation. This office is unethical, insensitive, and incompetent. How they spoke to me and made me feel about my teeth is absurd. I went to my appointment a couple of weeks ago and met with the office manager and was told I need to have a appointment to see a ortho surgeon and that they had one on staff and that I also need some caps. He then tried to hit me up for $8,000 or more. I told him to clear the procedures with my insurance and was told he would. They still have not sent anything to my insurance except the bill for x rays and the office manager has been ducking my calls. I have to say this has not been a good experience at all. What talented and caring staff. Dr. K is an angel in disguise. Three weeks ago, when my 18-year old son came home for Christmas he broke his front two teeth playing football. All of a sudden we needed to quickly get his teeth fixed at the worst time of year - during the holidays - and in time for him to return back to his college out of State. It was the last day before they were going to shut down their office for the holidays. Dr. K and her staff no doubt had plans of their own after closing time, but they put their holiday plans on hold and stayed late 3 hours after closing time to make sure my son got what he needed! Dr. K and her staff also made themselves available to us during their time off in case we had any urgent needs or questions come up. We had done our research. We called a host of other dentists, even visited a couple in person before we found Dr. K's practice. We discovered most dentists would have just extracted what remained of my son's two front teeth and put in implants. Someone as young as my son, though, needs a dentist who is willing to restore the teeth if at all possible. Thanks to Dr. K and her staff, my son got to keep his roots. That night he got the temporary crowns, which looked great, and no one could even tell they were fake unless my son told them his football story. Today he went in for his follow up appointment and got the permanent crowns. Wow. Beautiful teeth, perfectly matching in color and texture and aligned with his gums. My son said he is very happy with them. You would never know just by looking at him that anything had happened. I want to say this, too. Dr. K charged a very reasonable price. My wife and I were so relieved because some of the dentists we called had wanted to charge us at least five times the amount for the same work. No joke! Dr. K and her staff were professional, went out of their way to help my son, and they took the time needed to answer all our questions. If you're on Yelp looking for a dentist, especially one you plan to make your primary provider, I urge you to ignore the fake reviews and consider another office. Parking There's a structure nearby that charges $6. The office will (rather falsely) verbally advertise "free parking", but do understand they're referring to street parking, which from my experience was never vacant. Be prepared to shell out the $6 with each visit. Office Staff Assuming you've read the previous reviews, you might already be familiar with a man by the name of Edwin. Edwin manages the logistics of the office, and really is as unpleasant as those previous reviews have suggested. He employs this strange, condescending attitude in his every interaction with you. You can easily pick it up if you read some of the responses he's given to a few of these reviews. Don't expect setting appointments, or any office communication to be a pleasant experience. Expertise After your evaluation, Dr. Karimyan will suggest the most expensive variation of treatments available: zirconium crowns, invisalign braces, even veneers. And if you're interested in more cost-effective options? the entire office (no joke) will exclaim that you're putting "poison" in your mouth, and delay your appointment to order out your "cheaper" requests. In terms of the actual work, she seems like she's aware enough of what she's doing, though that - interestingly - didn't matter; she made it a practice to have the other seemingly-inexperienced faculty work on you instead. Suddenly it's as if you've volunteered for some sort of student training. Pricing I have a very straight-forward fee schedule provided by Aetna. Knowing this, I checked on every procedure they quoted me for and found that on some treatments they were charging me double, and on others, more than double from what I was supposed to be charged. They artificially increase their prices. They were attentive when I wanted to set up appointments, yet when I asked them to send a pre-determination to my insurance company to verify the costs, I would receive no response. If you have insurance, be prepared for them to disregard it. Conclusion I would not recommend being a patient here. You'll be faced with parking charges, rude staff, unqualified work, and straight-up theft. Avoid it like the plague. UPDATE: Last night, I received a phone call from this office asking to have my review taken down. I let them know I wasn't interested, hung up. Not only did they then proceed to call me a ridiculous 20 more times, they pulled my father's emergency contact information from my patient form, and called him in the middle of the night (can they even do that?). He then called me, saying Dr. Karimyan was asking to have the review taken down. They've called 5 more times this morning. I will begin filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I wish I had read previous reviews. The one star is for very kind girls at the front desk and the assistants. A terrible experience from the doctor and Edwin who I equivocate to a used car salesman. Upselling is priority- patient care is far far down the list. The doctor was condescending both to me and to her assistant. Honestly there's too much wrong with this place to even list everthing. MOST HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I read previous bad reviews about this dental office but decided to give them a chance. 1st disappointment was them rescheduling my appointment without communicating with me . 2nd disappointment was the lack of communication regarding fees. Every time I asked how much? They would roll their eyes at me. Instead of discussing the treatment plan and fees prior to agreement , they do this backwards, giving you the impression you're covered under your insurance. Then slam you with their outrageous FEES! I spend 4 hours at this office waiting to be seen . All for nothing. Please no not waste your time here like I did. These people do not care about helping you but rather how much money they can scam from you. read more
