Best Philly in Manatee County. Family owned businesses are the best. I really love the thick Milkshakes or Malts especially during hot days. Service is great and for me not far away so easy to pick up 2 10' steak and cheese to go with fried mushrooms. It's a busy place so we enjoy bringing home. Served hot and stayed hot the entire duration of eating it.. maybe 16 minutes. It's just magical! Husbands' first time here and he definitely loved it too. South Philly has become a semi-regular stop for my wife and I. Their food is consistent, tasty, and a change from much of the quick service food in the area. The setting feels homey and we enjoy eating there when we do. This review is to point out an excellent experience we had recently due especially to the two young women who were serving that day. We stopped in around 5 PM on president's day. Two young women were serving and they were delightful. Especially as we were with parents who are older, one of whom can find eating out challenging. 9/7 Saturday Once again the wife and I needed to get out of town. This time we decided to head to the Ellington Mall and I knew exactly where we needed to go, South Philly Cheese Steak. Since it was early in the afternoon we ate before we shopped. Found a parking spot out front and we were in. I understand this restaurant has a couple locations. This stop for lunch is in the strip mall in front of the outlet mall. As we entered I could see this was a clean place. They have table service, found a table and sat. Wasn't long before we were being helped, knew what we wanted and ordered. I had the eight inch cheese steak with onions the wife had a six with peppers and onions. She said the peppers had a kick. And best of they authentic Philly rolls, Amoroso's, the quintessential Philly cheese steak bun. You can't call it a Philly unless its on this roll. I forgot what I came here for and was a bite or two in before I remembered to get a pic. This thing is legit, if you have not had one from this place, please try. You won't be disappointed. And if you hadn't had a Amoroso roll, go there just for that. I had chips with mine and the wife had fries. I had a few of her fries, good. Overall, a great place for a Philly. The fries were bad, not much flavor, limp, and soggy. The worst thing is the prices, and they charge extra for EVERYTHING. A 10" sandwich is almost $14, if you want fries with it it's another $2, a drink is like another $4, want some ranch to dip your fries in? $.60 per little ramekin, and they LITERALLY charged $.50 for "ice" because I just had a glass of water. Both were delicious and served with chips, since we already had fries. I can see why we've received so many recommendations to go here and it will definitely be one of our favorites to come back to. The cook & waitresses were also amazing! Our orders were completely right and served quickly. They had great attitudes and were staying really busy keeping the customers taken care of. I have been back to this location for carryout a few more times since my original review since my coworkers really enjoy the food. I absolutely love the garlic bomb fries, which are a huge portion. I think the food has improved since my first review when they first opened. I have also ordered the regular Philly, which is okay. I wish the meat was shaved like a traditional Philly rather than time pieces that look like ground beef. It does have good flavor, but the meat in the sandwich is a bit sparse for the price. The meat was cooked and seasoned just right and the hot peppers in that dang thing was amazing it just complimented the Philly sandwich. Atmosphere - Fun. Located in a very small strip mall near the outlet mall, the restaurant is bright and cheerful. There is not a ton of tables and the place can fill up quickly. Unlike many sandwich restaurants, there is table service. Service - Very Good. Our server did an excellent job of being attentive and she was very pleasant. Food - Very Good. The traditional Philly cheesesteak uses cheese whiz (Edited note: I lived near and had an office in downtown Philadelphia for nearly 20 years). However, the restaurant's menu lists white American cheese as its standard (a little weird for a restaurant that bills itself as being an authentic South Philly). I used to frequent Jim's on South Street and on occasion I would have provolone on my cheesesteak so I went with that and "wit". The restaurant offers 3 different sizes and I took the middle ground of 8". They ship in the same Philly bread that is used by Pat's, Geno's and Jim's and it was every bit as fresh as you would find it on on South Street. The steak was melt in your mouth tender and it was cut and grilled perfectly. The sandwich was absolutely loaded. They had malt vinegar on the table which I love with fries so that was my side. The portion of fries was huge and they were the type that is sold at county fairs! The pieces that were not overly fried and hard, were awesome. Unfortunately, that was only 1/3 of the portion size. Call me unreasonable, but this is where I dinged the restaurant a star. Overall Value - Very Good. The 8" sandwich (including potato chips) is priced at $11.50, which I consider very reasonable given the portion size and quality. The French Fries were a $2 add on and that would have been a steal had more than half of the pieces not been so hard that they would have chipped a tooth. Note - the menu is far more varied and offers a wide selection of menu items that are typically not found at a cheesesteak restaurant. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and even would recommend it to people who are not interested in ordering a cheesesteak read more

Visited today for the first time and I must say I was impressed. Very good cheesesteak. Little lacking on the cheese but the filling was very tasty. We got three different steaks and each one of us loved what we got. I added bacon and was not disappointed. The service was friendly and prompted despite being busy. What is there not to like? I tried my first cheesesteak at the west Bradenton location and I have visited the Ellenton location twice. However, my favorite and the best location is in Bradenton off of Lockwood Ridge Blvd. they have the best cooks and the best service by far. First of all I am originally from philly which carries weight when reviewing a cheese steak place. I got an oreo milkshake cheese steak wit/wit . They added fries for 2 dollars extra. Ok milkshake was good , the steak is VERY chopped which is fine alot of places do it different I do not mind super chopped. Rolls were really good even though it did not hold and the back broke but thats not on them. Now the fries just out of the fryer was the worst part they were SO SOGGY and dripping with grease . The only bad thing which I took a point off was the fries almost took 2 cause they were not great. The steak was good about the same as a jersey mikes maybe . 5 percent better from the roll but not bad either you cant expect a philly experience in florida . Other then kruks in naples but thats a different topic. All in all the waitress was really great and nice she also made me add a star i was going to take away.
