I recently took my vehicle here to bleed air out of brakes lines & to check a check engine light sensor. I was told even after replacing sensor, over $300 may not fix the issue as,after market catalytic convertor was installed. 2008 Honda Element. Did not fix that issue & my brakes are still to the floor almost. Seeing that I was just purchasing a new home this added expense was not welcomed! I would have been fine as,I knew the sensor was a gamble but the brakes they never fixed. If I didn't live an hour away I would have taken the car back after moving. Will never recommend them. Fast and excellent service. Had an oil change and general service inspection of my car. They did not try to sell me stuff I didn't need. Very good value for the money. I also had a flat tire fixed there. They removed the screw that caused the leak and patched the tire. They got me in the same day which was a relief. read more

New to the area in 2021, like most of us, I had to find a new shop. I found this team from reading Next Door reviews, focusing on reviews from people who are from the area or have been here for 20+ years. I've brought 4 different vehicles here and they've never given me any indication that I can't trust them. I've never had an issue, felt as if I'm being over charged or taken advantage of, actually the opposite. They've told me not to do repairs that I thought were needed, why? Because they weren't repairs I had to make for the car to keep running safely, even though the dealer said they were. I know they're a 4th or 5th generation, family run, auto-mechanic shop. Sue is a gem. Sitting in the shop waiting for my repairs to be completed, and listening to the calls she takes, and the silly (ridiculous) questions people ask, she keeps her professionalism, positivity, and kindness while doing everything she can to help the callers. Questions asked that I'd probably have not responded as well/patiently/kindly as she does! I bet she'd be able to work on the vehicles in the shop if needed. I'm the daughter of a car guy, a car guy who retired from the GM plant. Dad and I worked on cars together, he was my go to person any time I needed repairs, even living in a different State, I'd run my repair recommendations by him before agreeing. I have been taking my cars there for years and found them to be very fair until this episode. I went in there to replace a speed sensor . Which is a plastic cap mounted onto the rear metal wheel hub assembly. Instead of replacing the plastic hub they charged me for the whole wheel assembly. Which cost me considerably more. The tried to tell me they cant do that they have problems with that. I got the old assembly and easily removed the sensor from the hub. I went back to the shop and challenged Greg on this and he got all pissy and drop me as a customer. BEWARE they want dummies as customers. read more

This was my first time at South Shore Auto . I had an appointment for an oil change and to have the low tire pressure light turned off. My tires had the appropriate amount of pressure so I knew my tires were good. When I got into my car to leave the low tire pressure light was still on. I went back into the shop and the mechanic looked for a reset button and couldn't find one. He got someone else and I was told to just drive it and the light would go off. I knew this wasn't true since I had been driving for a week with the light on. I was also told I needed new tires and was given a sheet with tire prices. I made an appointment with the Grease Monkey in Ruskin to see if they could help me with the low pressure light. I brought my car into this shop and was out in 15 minutes with the low tire pressure light off and a tutorial on my car computer on how to reset the light. Great shop. I asked this other shop if I needed new tires and was told my tires were good. I won't be returning to South Shore. read more

Outstanding owner & staff, honest practicioner. Kind.... Talked to me, explained what he thought was wrong based on my notes/symptoms, fading clutch revving engine no traction. When they dropped the manual transmission the found questionable parts either they were cheap rebuilds or from a salvage yard. That's what I get for going to a dealer in Brandon. Never again , went to replace my door handle they put it in took almost 4 hours , got charge $65 plus tax then the office lady was extremely rude, the next day my key don't open my door so I can't lock my car . I Did not like this placed I was standing up in the sun for the time they were working in my car , no one offers me a chair or water or nothing at all , the customer service skills are not there . Five stars and 2 thumbs up for the folks at South Shore. My wife and I are new to the Sun City Ctr area, and of course after selling our second car we had an engine light come on our vehicle. Issues were some serious hesitation and stalling. I cleaned out the MASS Sensor with some improvement but problems continued. A few days later the vehicle began stalling out and had serious hesitation. I was able to get to Advanced Auto and the guys determined the OCD Code was timing related/solenoid. I contacted South Shore and Greg(Please excuse me if I got the name wrong) was able to get my car in the next day. I brought our car in early and was able to get a ride home from Sue(Much thanks!). I believe Troy worked on my vehicle installing 2 new actuator solenoids which he professionally diagnosed from the error codes on their diagnostic equipment. Repair was expedited quickly, early the same afternoon. Sue was fantastic, and was able to pick up my wife and I and give us a ride back to the shop to pickup our vehicle. It's been a bit over a week an our vehicle is riding like new. What a blessing it is to find a competent auto repair especially after just moving to a new town. We plan on using South Shore for our maintenance, oil, rotate, etc. and any other issues that may come up with our vehicle. This review is overdue few years ago maybe 3 had my feel pump repaired here. I remember the service was timely we paid a fair price for it and they had it for probably about a day or so maybe two days thinking back on it the work was satisfactory and it came with a 90 day warranty. They have a nice waiting area they're comfortable TVs fresh coffee. I also remember being offered a ride home at the time which I declined since I had a ride picking me up. I took my car to get the air conditioning fixed and SouthShore did a nice job on that but in the process of getting my air conditioning fixed they had to take the dashboard out. In the process they tore my dashboard up and did not tell me about it until I had gone to pick my car up. They told me they would help me pay for some of the repair of the dashboard or I could buy a mat for it. I was not about to buy a mat for it and they went back on their word and wouldn't help pay for it, they did get a dealership to get it down to $1900 from $2300 well I don't consider that they helped in any way pay for the damage to the dashboard they told me there was a warranty on the dashboard but when I called Toyota Headquarters they told me the Warranty had expired in October 2019. South Shore led me to believe the Warranty was still on the car, I will never do business with South Shore again and they will refuse me the service. 100% - 300% markup on parts. Caught red-handed and all he could say was "we have overhead... Everyone does it.".BS. Good honest shops charge a SMALL markup on parts and make money on their labor. Here are the parts (and I pulled it up by part # right I'm front of him. Rotors $145. They charged me $200 a piece. Calipers $42. They charged me $88 a piece. Brake lines $16. They charged me $55 a piece. Bearings $8. They charged me $20 a piece. Wheel seals $3. They charged me $9. Plus almost $500 to do front brakes! Slow workers if it took them 5 hours to do the work. Assuming $100 per hour. So they made about $350 ordering the parts!!! I would have went and picked up the parts to save myself $350. That's even assuming they pay online prices, which you know they get a discount with a business account. Scam artist. Real slick Charlie. Go anywhere else. Great place for any car repairs or general services needed. Owner is very knowledgeable in repairs and explains everything in plain understandable language doesn't use technical terms. Wife is extremely happy with finding a shop that respects woman and explains thing clearly without all the jiberous BS talk. Great shop and highly recommend them. read more
