I don't believe that I could make up a worse experience with a service provider in any industry. After a very lengthy period of time to not only repair my instrument cluster but to also diagnose and resolve issues with stalling in my old truck, it died on the way home from the shop, I returned it and they diagnosed and allegedly repaired a different problem, yet it continues to stall with the AC on, which was the original issue. Then imagine my disappointment when I was going to take it out to run around the block two days after limping it home from Total and it was totally dead. Not only will I not return there for any type of service on any vehicle I own or will ever own, I will share my experience with anyone who asks my opinion, and some who don't. They had my boyfriend's 1968 Ford 250 for two months and barely communicated about a part they were waiting for. Once they fixed the issue the truck drove worse than before. We got a flat in a rental car heading down 75 from Tampa to AMI. Thankfully, my daughter and I were able to get the spare on. We safely drove with the donut to Total automotive. The men there were so nice and patched it immediately. They checked that the other tires were safe and put the repaired tire back on. The price was beyond gracious and they filled our water bottles and had us wait in the air conditioned office. They made this incident a minimal disruption and not a huge crisis. As a woman i'm always careful about getting ripped off from car places. i took my car to mavis & they tried charging me $750 for rear shocks. total rip off, i brought my car in for transmission repair or replacement. they had the car for 7 hours, i tried to call a few times to get the diagnosis, no answer, the mailbox was full, when i finally got to them they did not have an estimate, gave me the same information i gave them when i brought it in, told me they would call me with a estimate on a new transmission, have not heard from them, now i have a slow leak in my tire for 133$ Really,,, total what? read more

8/1/2023 I cannot be happier with the service provided at this shop. I won't mention dealer names, start with an R and ends with vard, but they wanted to replace a part that was not broken for over $1100. I took it to Total and guess what?! The part was fine just some relay issues. PLEEESE check with Total before having your dealer fix your car, especially when you run out of your warranty. I trust Total totally!! I could no longer justify allowing a 5 star review under my name for a business that I no longer felt deserved this rating and I didn't want to mislead other's who read my reviews. So I am posting this new updated review. My family has taken vehicles here often for all types of automotive repairs over the past couple of years, but the last few times the prices just seemed to keep going up and up. This is one reason for my updated review. So this last time when I was needing a new radiator for a van, I got a estimate here and from 2 other local shops within 1 mile and a dealership 20 miles away. TAS was the highest priced, even more than the nationwide branded dealership. TAS price was $745, the dealership was $672, and the 2 local shops were $612 and $584. TAS also said it would require 3.5 hours of labor and all 3 other shops said 3 hours. TAS charged me $40 to check my radiator and to determine it was defective. I also had TAS check why my fuel gauge that displayed an incorrect amount of remaining fuel one time, a couple weeks ago, and TAS charged me $90 for this diagnostic, and said the dash gauges tested fine so it must need a new fuel pump, which sends this info to the dash, and it will cost $875 to replace. I drove the van a bit and checked the gauge again, based on miles driven, MPG, and gallons of fuel added at the pump, and it is now working properly, so it may have just needed the code reset, or been a one time error, I'm not certain, but it works now, and I did not have to pay $875 for an un-needed fuel pump. So I am very happy about this! And very disappointed I almost wasted $875. I talked to the owner in person (he knows me) about his rates and trying to get the prices down a bit for the radiator repair job, as I was previously happy with the work they performed, just not their new pricing structure. After we talked a bit, he was not really willing to lower his rates, which I can understand, as I'm not wanting to take food off his table, and I believe any business can charge any fee they want. Just like a consumer can choose to go to any business they want to spend their hard earned money. I ended up getting my van fixed at another repair shop and saved a lot of cash. read more

Saved in an absolute pinch. Driving down the highway had a panel come loose on the bottom of the car. Managed to get off the highway calling every car repair place off the exit. They were busy very busy and they fit me in after explaining my situation. The staff was extremely courteous and genuinely concerned about my issue. They fixed up my car in an absolute jiff and we sent me on my way. If ever I need to have my car looked at as I'm passing through town I will. Be bringing my car here! Horrible customer service and time management. Booked the appointment a week ago to get headlights swapped. Staff assured me he could get it done and it would not take long (two hours max) Proceeds to call me 1 hour before close (vehicle was dropped off at 8am) that he cannot get it done and they are not open on weekend. Wasted money on two Lyft rides. Over promised to only under perform and not deliver. Not apologetic or offering to reschedule to make up for poor service. I took my wife's 2009 Buick Enclave there because the AC had died. It was July, this is Florida, something had to give! I had taken the car to Tuffy, and they'd diagnosed that the "High-pressure line" had ruptured, and it would cost $911.00 to repair. Damn! Since I now knew exactly what part was bad, I found that part online at JC Whitney, laboring under the delusion that I could fix it myself. So the $140 part came, and I went out into that hot garage with tools in hand, opened the hood, and looked at how this pipe snaked all around the engine bay. It looked like I-285 going around Atlanta. I knew that I just wasn't up to this task. Inner peace comes from knowing your own limits. So I went to Total based on the fact that I pass by them every time I drive home, and they always look busy, even late in the evening, like 11:00. I know, that's a pretty weak reason for selecting a mechanic for a job that was sure to cost hundreds of dollars. But hey, did I mention that this was Florida in late July? I needed to do SOMETHING fast. So I went there, and explained my problem, and showed him the still-new-in-the-box part I had secured. I dropped off the car, and four hours and $500 later, the inside of my car was once again cool and pleasant. He was fast, courteous, and he even used my part. All I had to buy was labor and AC refrigerant. He tested the system to make sure no other problem caused the rupture, and a month later, I'm still really pleased with the work. They say money can't buy happiness. THEY'VE never had their AC go out in Florida in late July. Happiness? It costs $500 for labor and refrigerant, plus another $140 for a long, curley pipe. read more

They did a good job on my oil change, but kept me waiting 18 minutes while owner took a personal phone call right in front of me. I could see my car parked out front ready. Hands down amazing service!! We were passing through on our way to St. Augustine when our tire blew. AAA put on the spare and this was the closest tire repair. The owner/front desk clerk was so friendly. They got right to work patching it so we could be on our way. Fairly priced for their services and didn't try to upsell me on various things I didn't need. We were traveling from Iowa and had car problems while staying at a hotel in Ruskin. We chose Total Automotive simply because they were the contact from our Insurance Company's roadside assistance. We were not able to talk with them face-to-face, and they could have easily taken advantage of us in this situation. But they did not. Instead, Julio and his team went out of their way to ensure we were well cared for. Even when I got a little upset at the repairs taking longer than expected, Julio was kind and fair. They offered us use of a company car, but we politely declined. Julio called regularly, texted updates and even sent pictures of the problems. And when the work lasted a day longer than expected, Julio didn't charge us anything extra and stuck to the original estimate. I could not recommend Total Automotive more. I wouldn't recommend this mechanic anyone... live close so I've used this place in the past never seemed to have a problem but just recently they worked on my current vehicle the first day they held my car all day called me at the end of the day to pick it up didn't do anything I asked for...I talk to the owner he told me he would take care of I took the car else where and I was told my car was damaged by whoever worked on it last...it took it back to total automative my car is running ok so far but my engine was missing a couple of bolts...besides all that the owner is rude as well as the front desk lady she has no customer service skills and she doesn't seem to know what she's taking about when she explains what they are charging you for she uses the words "I don't know" a lot. read more

My husband called this automotive repair shop and one of the employees said that he could wait while they diagnosed the problem and it shouldn't take too long. After my husband got there, he was informed that he needed to find a ride because it was going to be a longer wait than expected. He was told that someone would call before 10 a.m. to let him know what the problem was. At 12 pm., my husband finally called since noone had bothered to call us. They told us that they had to diagnose another, separate issue and that they would call back by 2 p.m. At 4:40p.m., when my husband noticed that the shop would be closing in 20 minutes, he called them and was notified that we could come pick it up. He informed the employee that we should be there by 5 p.m. We then woke up our ill child and loaded both kids into the van. We arrived at the shop at 5:02 p.m. and the doors were locked and noone was there! Although my husband had another major repair that needs to be done, we are looking for another repair shop to do it. read more

On 06/02/2016 I paid for a repair that I was told was completed in regards to a short in the electrical system. When the vehicle was brought into the business, the vehicle was in working order, minus the battery drain which was occurring. I was quoted one amount and I was assured it would be no more than the quoted amount of $220. At the time I picked up the vehicle, I was charged a higher amount which was then credited. My husband picked up the vehicle later that evening only to find the dash was damaged in two places, the vehicle was not operating correctly, the air conditioning was not working and the gages were not responding. We took the vehicle back. I was told that their work was not related to that issue however prior to it being brought into their shop, it was working correctly. We have two witnesses who can provide affidavits for the vehicle's service issues. They had it for another week when we were told it was repaired again. We picked it up again, the problems still existed. This has gone on until when we just picked up the vehicle today, 07-16-2016. At this point we would like a full refund as although the original problem was resolved, the shop has created three additional issues and physical damage. If this is unanswered, further legal action will be taken to recover the damages. read more

We moved here in August, 2012. By the end of the year, we started using TAS and have never looked back. Julio has always been honest, fair and has done a great job maintaining our cars. Customer service has always been excellent. About the previous reviewer complaining about Julio taking 18 minutes for a personal call, he needs to get a grip. I have never heard Julio take a personal call, only those that involved his business. But even if he did, 18 minutes? I've waited longer at fast food restaurants. A problem? Really? Total Automotive have a Hard time isolating car problems. After bringing truck in for breaks, Julio recommended front end work. I took his advice, and it was returned as if the truck had a bent rim (wobbled). Took it back, was told I needed new tires. When I picked it up, the truck still wobbled, and steering wheel shook. Took it back, they said they would fix it. They had the truck the weekend, went to pick it up, they said " they couldn't get to it even though Julio promised to fix it. Went for preventative maintenance "change of sparkplugs", I received a great pricing, so went ahead and had then replace the sparkplugs. The car was ready in few hours, picked up the car and started driving. Next day the engine light came on and the car started having extreme hiccups. Contacted the Julio and went back he fixed the car and retuned that back to me in few hours. In reality the car was not fixed and his mechanics probably are not qualified to resolve major issues and/or understand the root cause of the problem. Finally, I took the car back to him and he started giving me all BS and retuned my car without performing any work and is such a bad condition that it wont drive more than 50 miles (speed). I have completely lost trust in these guys and went straing to Firestone. Remember the car is used my wife and kids to commute to work and school and these people completely screwed my car. They don't return our phone calls as well, worst customer service. Small jobs okay, but don;t risk taking your car for major issues. REMEMEBER MY CAR WENT IN WORKSHOP IN A GOOD RUNNING CONDITION AND CAME OUT IN WORST CONDITION AND THE SHOP DOES NOT WANT TO OWN THEIR RESPONSIBILITY". PLEASE BE AWARE.
