They took 2 weeks to fix a window screen. They did warn me that they take a looong time to do the screen repairs so I was ok with waiting. But when I finally drove over to pick it up they decided to close in the middle of the day to eat lunch. So I was expected to sit in my car for 45 min and wait while the checkout gal let her friend come in w take out food, or drive all the way back in the middle of a Sunday afternoon. I watched at least 4 or 5 other customers walk up to the door and then drive away before I did the same. read more

I normally shop there for items for home and recently bought a dead bolt for my front door. They sold me the wrong item, requiring a key both inside and out. This is a very dangerous deadbolt since i can't get out without a key in my own place in an emergency. I want to replace it with another but they said they only sell one type. I asked to use their restroom and the cashier said it's only for customers. I am a customer. I found out later they had a change of ownership two years ago and the new management does not allow customers to use their rest room. I have never encountered any hardware store that does not have a restroom for customers. I think it's a big mistake for them to not allow a customer to n use the RM. i will never go recommend this store again. Keep your restroom to ourselves and in fact keep your merchandise to ourselves. I hope this Is not the policy of the new owner. read more

I went into South Shores Ace store on Sunday 06/16/24 at approx 915 am. There was a male and two ladies working. I went to purchase item# 7100225 which on the website was listed as being in stock. I went into the store and the product was not hanging in the section. I went up to the woman sitting at the cashier and asked her to see if the item was in stock, She looked it up and said there should be 16 of them in the aisle. I told her that I could not find them. Instead of offering to get up and go check she said the website is run by "Corporate" and the store has nothing to do with it. She simply said maybe they are out and she could order the items. I felt like I wasted a trip going into the store due to incorrect website info and bad customer service . I just walked out and went to Home Depot instead. That employee needs to be retrained on "Helpful Hardware Place" service. read more

I was in the process of getting new gas, powered yard equipment, Weedwhacker and leaf blower. Found a really cheap deal at Home Depot. Oh but wait there's more it's a cheap deal but you have to order it online. It's something that doesn't even exist at the store so I felt like it was a bait and switch so I decided since I had already committed almost 30 minutes trying to get someone to unlock the Weedwhacker. I compromised on getting only to have the people I found nearby, talking to each other they explained they were from appliance section. They called someone on the phone. They never came. I waited a little longer. At this point I realize there was the same man pretty much everywhere I went and was just around me. I finally asked him sir. Do you work here? Are you loss prevention? Can you get someone over here so I can buy this I felt like a shoplifter being watched yet no one would help me unlock the item I wanted to buy that was more expensive than I intended to spend. I was so happy I called ace hardware while this was going on. I recall being in there the other day and seeing some really nice looking gas power tools I called and got a price and walked out of Home Depot. I ended up saving $10 buying premium equipment and they even filled out the warranty and registered it with me in my name so if it's ever stolen the serial numbers are registered with their computer at the store, very cool never get this kind of service at Home Depot and you think you're saving money. The amount of time I wasted at Home Depot I can't believe I took my cart to the cashier and told them can you get someone to come unlock the leaf blower after a few minutes they told me the person was on a break, but they can't find them to get the key. Super stupid waste of my time. Home Depot sucks . I don't want to go to a store where everything is locked up. I've become very fond of ace hardware and the staff is amazing and knowledgeable and if they don't have some thing they will order it for you but there's a big difference of buying something from a brick and mortar store like Ace Hardware. This store seems well-run. I experienced such great customer service by the two employees, Sabrina and Nic, who helped me on Monday, 10/24. I was feeling frazzled because I was on a deadline working with contractors but Sabrina and Nic were so pleasant and helpful with helping me to get all the supplies I needed, including 13 gallons of paint. My only complaint would be that this location is physically small so they don't have as many products in stock. read more

I bought some hardware (plastic nuts and bolts) which, because of my procrastination, I left the purchase in the bag for 4 weeks. Then, when I discovered that because I had a Toto toilet, I couldn't use the parts. But, I couldn't find the receipt. After reading several reviews, I concluded I wasn't going to be able to take the parts back. Well, I'll "give it a shot" anyway. I returned to the store and explained I couldn't use the parts and wanted to return them. No problem. The salesperson, Kevin, immediately processed a credit back to my credit card and "I was on my way." My younger brother went to the hardware store to pick up tape and a blow torch for a project. An older white male cashier said to another cashier "Don't you love it when then the 'spics' come here." My brother just left. I cannot begin to address my disappointment with a business that would allow this-- and not one but two individuals who would participate in this kind of racist degradation. My brother is 25 and left without making a scene or saying anything to a manager. I can guarantee had I been there I would have alerted management immediately. I've lived in Pedro for 8 years, I patronize Ace on Western 6-10 times a year mostly for small items like keys, spray paint, lightbulbs, bug spray and glue. Home Depot is too far, too many lights and at times, lots of traffic. It is a bit more pricey, but not so much that I'd drive through town to pay less. Customer service is overall great, I've come in a few times where it's been younger people working. Typical stand around young adults, busy work must be taught, in their defense store was and is always immaculate so standing around is appropriate. (If you are under 25 and at work you just stand there have a cloth or duster in your hand and move it around. Always things to clean) But I've never encountered rudeness, if I ever did it would spur me to drive across town to Home Depot or the True Value on Pacific (super scary area)! I went here once to have a spare key made. I was in and out in under 5 minutes. Yes, I walked in, told the clerk that I needed a duplicate key made, He said ok, walked to the back, returned in maybe 90 seconds with exactly what I asked for. This is pretty ideal. No sense in waiting around, if they can get me in and out in a timely fashion with exactly what I came in for, then they are doing right by me. read more

Currently I'm sitting in front of Ace hardware after an associate or possibly manager named Mike was rude pushy and unprofessional, I was looking at a few flashlights at the counter and then walked back for a couple other items when he yelled through the store do you need help with anything else and I said no I'm just killing a little bit of time shopping before my next service account, And he told me this is not the place for killing time you need to put your stuff on the counter pull out your wallet and pay and leave. This store is small, but mighty. Selection is enough for basic needs ranging from buying paint to buying a hammer. However if you're looking for paper shades for windows, you may need to go else where because I was shopping for that and they don't carry it. On a positive note, I had a great experience of having my keys duplicated. The key making station is located in the back of the store, there's not really a sign, but when I asked a staff member, she told me that she'll meet me there in a moment. Less than 5 minutes later, I was out the door with 2 extra keys. Prices were good, about $3/key. Service was great, small parking, on a clear day you can get a glimpse of the ocean! This will be my go-to place for getting duplicate keys! read more

I came up here to get a fan which I saw they have in stock. I use the app which was helpful. I pull up at 5:03 as they're still bringing stuff in they tell me they're closed. Disappointed. I wanted to buy, or order, a Milwaukee oscillating multi tool as I saw online that Ace hardware carried this brand. Your associate looked it up online, but seemed clueless about a tool of this type. I had already researched it, but (maybe because I am female) he didn't seem to take me seriously and it seemed like he wasn't really interested in getting more info about it. I think that this store is only good if you know exactly what you need and if it is in stock, otherwise it is an amateur operation. I was prepared to spend upward of $200 for this tool and accessories. I guess I will take my business elsewhere. BTW, this associate was not wearing his mask correctly. It hung below his nose. The Visit to the store was horrible. My wife and I are a young couple who just moved in to our new home and needed different things for our home. We walked in the store unsure what exactly we were looking for. Many store associated asked us if we needed help. After we told them that we were ok, they continued to follow us through out the store. When my wife was in the aisle next to mine i hear a store manager or supervisor telling my wife that we were not allowed to roam the store. The customer service at this store since new owners is off the charts. I had a heck of a time finding a particular cleaner. They found it and ordered it for me. Not only that they stayed in communication which shocked me since the order was delayed and I really thought they might not care as much as I did but they pleasantly pleased. As an addedum to this review I visited another Ace where the manager was most helpful, explained to me how to repair the problem and provided the tools for the job, and a local referral should I need additional assistance. With that I was able to compete the repair on my own even after the owner of the South Shores Ace was going off about how I absolutely had to hire a plumber to do the job and when I objected abruptly cut me off and turned to another customer. Good thing for him he owns the store or with that attitude and behavior or he might not be in employ there. If you're desiring of better service than that try the Ace on PCH or Long Beach, they're geared more towards the places that used to take a personal interest in the customer before the big box stores replaced smaller ones. read more

Never shop these stores b/c prices are ridiculous but needed brake oil, no one in the area had any. What I saw was amazing. The entire store completely out of stock wherever you looked. No brake oil of course, that bay was completely out of stock. Trip hazards everywhere, freight in boxes on the floor, nobody working any of it. The owner either doesn't care, doesn't know what he's doing or has just quit on this business. Looks like all three to me. I've made it point to stay away from HD but I'm done trying to give this little store my business. Terry.....clue in and read some of these reviews, your employees are clueless , self absorbed and rude. In a town like SP a little thank you goes a long way. Last week (12/01/19), was the third time in a row that I've been to this Ace location and it never changes. I enter, receive no "hello" or "can I help you" from the 3 employees doing nothing, proceed to look for a product BY MYSELF, purchase product and still have zero interaction with the employee. No "thanks" , "please come again", zero. I can honestly say I've finally learned my lesson. Back to Home Depot for me and my hardware needs. Came here to get a key copy made. I was charged for a 6pk when I only purchased one. When I pointed out that the receipt came up as a 6pk and the price was 4x the amount I paid previously; they still stood by the wrong. Pay attention to all the comments about being over charged and their shady business practices. Didn't want to leave a key behind so I made the purchase feeling horrible about it the whole time knowing they were screwing me over. I recently went in to South Shores Ace hardware store to buy some hardware and tools As I approached the door Terry the store owner had the door locked during business hours while customers were shopping inside I waited outside because of this new store policy of only three customers at a time because of covid 19 After waiting several minutes Terry asked my coworker and I if it was necessary for both of us to come inside the store I replied "yes he's helping me build something I need his help" Terry: "well you both can't come in, tell me what you need and I'll grab it for you" Me: " why won't you let us in ? We're both customers. I just saw two people walk out the store. I purchased an umbrella with the base for my patio from Ace Crown Hardware store in Huntington Beach. on Sept. 3.When I attempted to secure the base, it was stripped and wouldn't tighten up.. So I decided to take the base up to my local Ace store the very next day (Sept. 4) (which is five minutes from my house) so I could return it.. Therein lies the problem I had..Mr. Katnich told me I needed to return the original base to Huntington Beach where I purchased both items. He said he wouldn't take it..He did sell me another base and had one of his employees make sure it was set up correctly. What POOR customer service from this gentleman!! He was in a hurry and said he wasn't even supposed to be there but told another employee to handle the installing of the new base he sold me. I did return the original base to Huntington Beach the very next day (Sept. 5)and was told that it could have been returned to the Ace store in San Pedro..They do it regularly for their customers. Mr. Katnich couldn't be bothered!! I won't use this business again I can assure you. The Crown Ace Hardware store was so helpful, courteous and If I didn't live so far away, I certainly would use their services, especially Stacy Arias, who helped me with some other issues when I went there. read more
