The flavor was noticeably sour, which overpowered the meal and did not align with what I typically expect from drunken noodles. Additionally, the menu description states that the dish includes basil and carrots; however, neither of these ingredients were present in my order. The vegetable portion overall was quite minimal, which further added to my disappointment, as this dish is usually known for its balance of noodles, protein, and fresh vegetables. Based on my experience, the dish did not meet the expectations set by the description, and I would not recommend this particular dish. Very good Thai food. Picked up on NYE. Cute inside. Street parking but plenty of. We got the green curry and chicken with basil. Never had peas in curry. That would be my only critique is that was a bit random and not much of a variety of vegetables. Tons of green beans but the curry flavor was delicious. I have visited Za Onn numerous times for takeout. Tonight was our first time dining in. They have updated the interior and it is quite cute. Both bright and cheery. My husband and I were looking for an affordable night out, and because this place is BYOB, it fit the bill. For starters, we had edamame and vegetable dumplings called jeebjay. I highly recommend the dumplings, the dough was perfect. We shared two main dishes: pineapple fried rice with chicken and pad lah nah with shrimp. Both were outstanding. The pad lah nah had wide soft noodles combined with the slightly crunchy broccoli in a slightly thick broth. The flavors and textures were excellent. The fried rice was so good. My husband said we're coming back here next week so we can try other varieties! The service was excellent. And I know this is not a typical part of a review, but the ladies room was immaculate. read more

Don't even think about ordering on a Friday. I called ahead and was told 30 min for two simple dishes and waited over an hour with Choate students pushing me while I waited. The food is nice but not at all worth an hour with pushy people in a doorway full of kitchen smoke. Come if there is no one there. Don't order ahead their timing is awful. I have ordered Pad Tai in at least a hald dozen restaurants from Stamford to Cheshire. This was by far the worst Pad Tai I have ever eaten. It was dry as a bone and one would never have believed I ordered it with chicken. It was a takeout order and when it arrived home I took the disposable chopsticks and stuck it in the Pad Tai. Za Onn is our new go-to Thai spot ever since the one closest to us got too pricy. But I'm glad we made the switch. They are consistently good. Food is fresh and staff is genuine and kind. I've only ever gotten take-out here but hear good things about dining in. Their pad Thai is a no brained but the kanom jeeb is always what we get to start our meal. Basil sauce with beef or chicken is usually what I get and it's consistent each time, although a tad heavy on the onions. We write in a note about less onions and they accommodate us just fine. If I could only go to one restaurant for the rest of my life, it would be Za Onn Thai House. I've been going to Za Onn since college (so over five years now!) and I've literally never been disappointed by any dish--everything has always been tasty! This past weekend my sister and her boyfriend came up to visit me and they brought takeout from Za Onn. They brought all of our favorites--basil fried rice, chicken pad Thai, fancy fried rice, the chicken roti, silver soup, and Za Onn gave us a delicious complementary coconut jelly dessert. Everything was extremely flavorful and the service was very friendly and helpful as always! If you're looking for a takeout place, I 100% recommend you call Za Onn. This is my go to place for pad kee mao, aka drunken noodles. I usually get it with shrimp. The flavors are really balanced in this dish. I know many reviewers pointed out the spiciness, but I think it has a nice kick to it without obliterating all your taste buds...it doesn't even come close to doing so. I add extra garlic chili sauce for a bit more spice. I've only been here during lunch. One time I went they had a lunch special which included your choice of salad or soup. Another time, I asked for the lunch special and person working there said that they didn't have it for that day. Wait what.... Besides the weird on/off lunch specials, the portions are small. Surprisingly, the lunch special portion is the same size as the non lunch special portion. I usually finish 2/3 of my drunken noodles at other places, but at this place I can finish the dish. The taste is spot on, so even with the odd on/off lunch specials and the smaller portions, I will continue to come back! Service is slow.........if you want to be in and out, you need to be proactive in getting the server's attention. read more

My friend and I almost missed this spot two times when we drove by. It is on a very unassuming block. The inside is pretty minimal, but there are some Thai accents. This is definitely a popular spot, even on a Sunday night. Our waitress was very nice and just the right amount of attentive. Our dishes were fragrant and a good portion for the price. Best Thai food I've ever tasted! I come here regularly with my family and friends. The food is so tasty and the prices are great. My favorite dishes include the drunken noodles, spicy basil fried rice, fancy fried rice, fried calamari salad and vermicelli vegetable soup. At first sight, the restaurant doesn't look like much. Decor is minimal, lighting is bad and it's a tiny spot. But don't let this stop you. (Before you go in, pop next door to get a bottle of wine.) The service...basically there is one waiter for everyone. He's a man of VERY few words and he's working like a fiend. He may even be chef, who knows. We got the calamari as an appetizer. It was delish. It tasted fresh and the mixture of flavors with the calamari and veggies on the dish was excellent. I got the yellow curry fried rice for my meal. The portion size was generous. The flavor was divine. I loved every bite. I took half home and had it for lunch the next day and it was just as good. Best Thai food in town! I have eaten at all of the Thai restaurants in Wallingford (we have quite a few) and none have compared to Za Onn. I've only had take out here, so I can't speak to dining in experience. My favorite dish is their crispy pad Thai. It is sweet and crispy and unlike anything else I've ever eaten. I've never seen crispy pad Thai on any other Thai menu, so this is a must try. Regular pad Thai and Thai fried rice are also very good. You can tell they use fresh ingredients and I've heard others say their food is very authentic - I've never been to Thailand so can't say myself, but it sure tastes good! I also love their fried wontons with the sweet dipping sauce (plum sauce I believe). I'm getting hungry just writing this review! Definitely check this place out if you like Thai food. Even if you don't like Thai food, it's so good that you just might change your mind! read more
