This place is on my route to work, but I never stopped in because I couldn't see it from the street. Regardless, I knew it was back there somewhere so I decided to pull in one day to look around. Once parked, I was able to see the large sign pointing toward the restaurant and then I was able to find it easily. I called ahead to order my usual General Tso's tofu and Szechuan tofu. The food TASTED great but the tofu was definitely dried out and/or overcooked. It was almost to the point of being hard to chew. Not all of it, but definitely certain parts. I mean, the food was still really good and it wasn't that big of a deal, but it's hard to be super excited about a meal that was difficult to eat, even if the taste was pretty good. It was tough to decide between 3 and 4 stars but I had to go with 3 because I've given other places 4 stars, places whose food was just as good but not dried out or overcooked. I'll definitely be going back to Pagoda, we'll see how everything goes the next time.

I stopped in for a quick bite of takeout food here at Pagoda and had a terrible experience. The first issue was the initial call. They hung up on me three times before I finally got through. I was then rushed through my order and of course once I got back to my office it was wrong. I specifically asked for no pork in the rice and a spring roll. They gave me pork fried rice and an egg roll. On top of that I found some sort of wiring in my food. The place is dirty and dingy. I wouldn't advise anyone to eat there

The fried dumplings were juicy and tasty!

I love this place! Friendly, fast delivery and delicious!! My go tos are Roast Pork n broccoli and Hunan chicken. Human not spicy enough, so I'll fix that next time. The pork is always tender. The broccoli is always nice n crunchy and the sauce is tangy. I'm never disappointed. Thank you Pagoda!

We ordered quite a bit so we could try a variety of dishes: the Shanghai pork soup dumplings, shrimp dumplings, pan-fried chicken dumplings, spicy beef ramen, stir-fried noodles, scallion beef pancake, cucumber salad, mango slushy, strawberry cherry fruit tea, Thai iced milk tea, and the chocolate baos for dessert. Everything we had was fresh, flavorful, and came out quickly. The hand-pulled noodles were cooked perfectly, the dumplings were packed with filling, and the spicy beef ramen had so much flavor without being overwhelmingly spicy. The scallion beef pancake was another standout, especially with the dipping sauce, and even the simple cucumber salad was refreshing and well-seasoned. The only thing that wasn't my favorite was the chocolate bao. It wasn't bad by any means--it was just much richer than I expected. The chocolate filling is very decadent, so one was more than enough for me. If you love rich chocolate desserts, you'll probably enjoy it more than I did. Overall, this was an excellent meal, and I can absolutely see why it's included in the Michelin Guide. The food was consistently delicious, portions were generous, service was friendly, and the prices felt very reasonable for the quality. I would definitely come back the next time I'm in New Haven.

Noodle and dumpling dishes were all good, and they have a huge TV where they screen the men's world cup! ===== We ordered - spicy peanut sauce beef noodle soup (knife cut noodle) - 4/5 - decent soup flavor and the bief pieces were tender; knife cut noodles weren't overcooked - stir friend beef and pepper noodles (knife cut) - 4.5/5 - probably the tastiest item we got; pretty big portion - jiu cai he zi - 3.5/5 - this was solid; you get 2 largeish pieces. - vegetable bao - 4/5 - enjoyed these more than the jiu cai he zi; really tasty, mushroomy filling - crab xiao long bao - 3.5/5 - mostly tasted like pork; upon arrival they looked a little over-steamed based on how the skins looked. Pretty good but pricy - nan gua bing - 2/5 - I've only ever had this without a filling (and they look flattier - these were basically balls), and the red bean filling here really threw me off and made the whole thing overly sweet. This was a good-to-generous amount of food for four people. Staff were friendly and efficient, and I'd probably come back if I were in the area and wanted Shanghainese food. Make sure you get a spot near the TV if you're trying to watch it!

My booth was kind of in the middle of the room and was open on both sides so felt a little exposed and weird, I would have preferred a cozy booth with flowers or in a corner/against a wall. I guess that's on me for not asking to be moved, but it was weird I was sat there when it wasn't that busy. Service could not have been more friendly - both the hostess and my server was so incredibly nice and personable, especially since I was on a road trip and eating by myself. My server went out of her way to make me feel comfortable and to get to know me and was very sweet and attentive, which I really appreciated. I loved that there was a vegan option in almost every category of the menu. I got the Vegan Dumplings and was a little underwhelmed - the dumpling skin was so thin they broke apart easily when I picked them up with chopsticks, which made them even harder to eat. The presentation wasn't great and they were unevenly spaced and kind of deflated and small looking. They were also 90% mushrooms which I don't really like but will tolerate in Asian food, but the flavor was still pretty meh, and I normally go crazy for dumplings. I also got the Vegan Spicy Wontons, which were better than the dumplings and came in a similarly colored green wrapping. They were thicker than the dumplings but were a little difficult to pick up with chopsticks due to the shape. They were yummy but again pretty heavy on the mushrooms. I normally don't like spicy food but have been liking spicy Chinese dishes lately, and these really weren't too hot at all, so even if you're a little sensitive to spice you'd probably be okay with these. My favorite part was the Fruity Yogurt Tea with Boba that I got in the Mango flavor. It was a little frustrating to have to pay extra for Boba when this was listed under the 'Bubble Tea' part of the menu, so you'd think that would be included. My server recommended I get this at 30% sweetness, which was the perfect amount - I can't believe it was only 30% because it was still pretty sweet! It was tasty and came in a cute to go cup that I requested so I could enjoy it on my way home. I'm glad I stopped in and would want to try the Vegan Soup Dumplings and Cucumber Salad next time - it was really hard to choose this time. I wish I was a little more excited about the food I did get, but the flavors weren't too special or exciting sadly. The branding and name of this place are phenomenal though and made me want to stop in the second I saw it when I drove by, so A+ to the creative team on that! If I were local I'd stop by for some of their happy hour etc. specials they advertise.

The dishes on the menu were vastly different from what was brought to the table (dan dan noodles especially). The short ribs were brought out ~2 minutes after we ordered, which seemed like they had a pre-made batch in the kitchen instead of being freshly made. The flavoring was not as expected, it was more of a panda-express type of flavor. The dan dan noodles did not have the fresh meat on top, but had a dried pre-made type of seasoning instead. (Menu vs dish shown in my pictures). The beef noodle soup was mid, the beef wasn't the same quality as other Chinese restaurants. The chili wontons were good! I'd recommend that dish. Overall disappointing experience and it's unfortunate, because my mom and I were looking forward to coming here for her one night in New Haven.

Lunch is $22.99 ALL WEEK, not just weekdays, and dinner is $32.99. They also have an all-you-can-eat Cajun seafood boil add-on. If you want snow crab legs, it's only another $10 with dinner. If you don't need the snow crab legs, it's only an additional $5 with lunch. Honestly, where are you getting a better deal for all-you-can-eat Thai, Japanese, Chinese, dim sum AND sushi?! I also love the tablet ordering system. There are pictures and descriptions for almost everything, so it's really easy to order. Everything is freshly made to order and they bring the food out as it's ready instead of waiting for your entire order to be finished. So things are constantly showing up hot and fresh. I've tried pretty much everything at this point Portions definitely vary. Some things are smaller, while the Chinese entrées are probably some of the biggest portions. The sesame chicken is SO GOOD. Super crispy, savory and flavorful on the outside but still juicy inside. The sushi is great too, although once you've completely overstuffed yourself, they all start tasting a little alike LOL. But seriously, everything we had was hot and fresh. Zero complaints. The inside is a little dark, but in a cozy/intimate way, and there's still plenty of lighting. From what I remember, it's mostly booths and they're really comfortable. Bathrooms have always been clean when I've been there, and they also have a walk-up hot bar and dessert bar. I leave here absolutely STUFFED every single time. It's worth every penny and then some. I already can't wait to go back and try the Cajun seafood boil next!
