Friendly, knowledgeable staff!

If you are in need of high quality cheese, Kurt is your guy. He's been in the business since 1973, and his knowledge is extensive. He takes pride in obtaining specialty cheeses for customers, and he has an effective worldwide network at his disposal. Beyond cheese, his shop carries pretty much everything one might need to go along with it. Stop in and say hello!

Great little local cheese shop. Think what you find in the side streets of Lisbon, Marigot, and Paris. Wide selection of great local cheeses and excellent charcuterie options as well as a sound wine selection. The owner knows her product and provides solid hospitality.

There is a lot to like about this cozy and inviting cheese shop. I saw the ad on the Highway and knew I was going to need to check it out because I absolutely love cheese The owners were friendly and helpful. They offer a range of local cheeses to slice, wedges, and pre boxed platters of different sizes. We mixed up our choices with a small box and a few other dips. There homemade pimento type cheese with peppers was a star! Yum! I also enjoyed the olive spread I picked up- salty and sooooooo good. The parking is a little difficult to find because that area is really busy. The shop is also really tight and small. If you have a Covid fear of being in tight spaces with mask free people then consider yourself warned. If I lived here, I would certainly be a regular. Check it out!

Yummy!!!! We stopped in after our visit to the Spa House, which is just around the corner. The place was very clean and packed with cheeses, wines, and thjngs to go with cheese. There were also charcuterie boxes for sale. The staff was friendly and offered to help us with samples of cheese. My husband was taken in by their selection of orphaned cheeses, and we purchased several. The chocolate lab was my favorite! I am hoping I can find it here at home because it was amazing!

Cute place. A great addition to Asheville. They have a very large selection of cheese both local and imported. A large selection of wine. Large selection of accoutrements to make the perfect cheese plate for your family or friends. They have some pre-made charcuterie ready for entertaining. They obviously support local and have a lot of local products. They were very kind and generous offering samples and information. A couple came in while we were there that are totally inexperienced with making cheese plates. The owner helped with suggestions and samples and as we were leaving, they were putting things together and getting an idea of what they were going to do. We found a 5 year Gouda that we haven't been able to find since leaving Charleston,SC. The only downside is trying to park!!

Wow! What an incredible find in downtown Asheville! Stopped here for a quick snack to tide us over before a later dinner and might have been one of the highlights of our trip! The small interior is stocked full of cheeses, meats, wine selection, and assorted honeys, oils, crackers, and everything you'd need to make an incredible charcuterie board or even for a housewarming or hostess gift! We got the wine flight and cheese pairing for $25 per person, and the portions were decently sized for the price and there were 4 great wines to pair with each of the 4 cheeses. They included some meats, as well. It was all delicious! Will absolutely be back!

What an amazing little shop! Situated on the South Slope it's within walking distance to the heart of downtown. If you're looking for high quality hard to find cheese for your evening in or that picnic you're planning this is the place to stop. Looking to make an amazing charcuterie board? This is the place! Wine? Port? Stop by! For those of you visiting the area you can grab a lunch box and head for the park instead of waiting in line at a nearby restaurant! We had a nice time talking with Kurt, the owner, who really appreciates the support of all the locals and visitors who stop by. Take the time and check it out!

After seeing the great reviews on yelp and wanting a little snack we decided to stop in. It certainly lives up to the hype. Such a great concept for a store. Everything looked delicious. After some recommendations from the friendly staff, we headed back to our Airbnb and devoured it all! Wish we had a place like this in Florida.

Sometimes it's tricky to find amazing cheeses so I'd heard about South Slope so I stopped in one Covid afternoon. Everyone was distanced and masked in the tiny shop. The shop is a treasure trove! They have some very unique and eclectic cheeses. I actually bought a couple bottles of wine too, not planned, because they had some wonderful unusual wines and most were organic. They also had some other special treats in their cooler. You must stop by and check it out!

My best friend was staying at the Omni Grove Park Inn to celebrate her 40th birthday. Thanks to COVID restrictions we aren't able to get together to celebrate the way we would under normal circumstances. I did some research and found South Slope Cheese Co online and located near the hotel in Asheville. I called and spoke to Kurt and Emily. They were both SO helpful!! They helped me pick out 3 great bottles so my bestie could toast it up to celebrate. They even entertained my request that the bottles be pretty because let's be honest, that's just as important as the taste of the wine. LOL They went above and beyond to make this a special experience including adding a hand written birthday message. Now I need to visit Asheville in person to shop with Kurt and Emily!! Thank you so much. Continued success!!

I think everything is made in house and it tastes like it. As their name states, they make gourmet potato chips with varying, over-the-top flavors ranging from salt and balsamic vinegar to ones topped with brown sugar, bacon and chocolate. Between the 12 of us we tried Salt & Vinegar, The Corsica, Southern BBQ and The Italiano. I had the Italiano Panini and The Nori chips. Both were totally delicious. The panini came out hot and gooey. The bread tasted great and the chips were so unique and surprising. I will say that they drizzled a little too much red chili aioli sauce. It was very thick and flavorful. However, after a few bites it was too much so I wiped off some of the sauce. But it was really good, and inventive. Everything is fresh and made to order so it did take us a while to get all of our food, given that we were a large group. They told us before we even sat and we still wanted to try it, so that no big deal. And I will say this. Our table was the last to get served and the food was amazing. Sometimes at restaurants the standards fall when they get busy and that DID NOT happen here. They served great dish after great dish. Bags of chips are available for purchase as well. I'm totally kicking myself that I didn't get some to take home. Gourmet Chip is an Asheville gem!

They sell both pre-packaged bags as well as fresh-made chips to eat in-house. So naturally we tried both! Their Salt & 3 Vinegar chips were delicious. Perfect for an afternoon snack as you're exploring downtown. We ended up taking home some of their truffle chips, which were also tasty. My only complaint was that they needed salt. Not sure if they put less salt on because you can always add more, but they were so much better once we sprinkled some in the bag and shook. They also have sandwiches here - didn't get to try one on our visit, but they looked tasty. Good stop both for a meal as well as a snack.

We got to stop by their new location (they took over The Malvern) and everything about the visit was pure perfection. The food is hearty and comforting - they specialize in hoagies + perogies and their menu boasts some additional fun daily specials. If I could give you any recommendation this week it would be to swing by and grab a brisket + cheese - I promise it'll be one of the best things you've eaten this year. Atmosphere at Little Louie's Hoagies & Pierogies? Very dive bar cool…read more Service? Friendly and helpful. Prices? Fairly reasonable for these times. Food. Meh. I was eager to try this newish spot from the former co-owner of highly rated Buxton Barbecue, but it didn't turn out so well. Maybe I just didn't know what to order. I guess I'll try it again. Don't know how much time Louie's owner Elliott Moss, who hails from Florence, South Carolina, has spent in Pittsburgh or Cleveland or Poland or Ukraine, where pierogi (yes, that's the plural of pieróg in Polish) are famous. Here, ours with potato and cheese ($11) was totally unlike the classic style, which traditionally features dumplings filled with mashed potatoes and cheese, boiled, then lightly fried and served with onions and butter. What we had was a clump of pale white dough, not fried, with a small layer of potatoes and some kind of cheese on top, and no onions. Our beef brisket and cheese hoagie ($16.49) was messy to eat and looked like the filling was whipped up in a blender. Nothing like the famous hoagies in Phillie or elsewhere in Pennsylvania. Louie's fries ($7.95 for a large serving) were well cooked but oddly topped with pesto and served with a small cup of marinara sauce. I guess that's what a chef calls "creative," but frankly I'd rather have just good fries. There are just four drafts on the drink menu ($5 or $6), plus a selection of cans and bottles. I had the Green Man porter. The booze is well priced, with gin, vodka and bourbon mostly under $10. Again, I love the dive bar atmosphere, much of it left over from the former bar here, The Malvern. There's a silver-painted high tin ceiling, dark blue walls, funky booths and even taxidermy on the walls. Drink prices are very reasonable. But as for the food, I'd rather have a classic burger and fries, rather than a phony pierogi or a hokey hoagie. Maybe next time I should try the smoked wings or the egg plant hoagie. I think this could be a great neighborhood spot in west West Asheville, if the owner would rethink the menu and add some items he know how to cook.
