The best Vietnamese food I have ever had in my life. If you are in the area please don't overlook this place. I think it may be the best restaurant in Delaware. The consistency of the food is phenomenal. Expect the same quality/portions/seasoning/etc whenever you visit. With rave reviews from a few hard working people on the best hidden gem in town, a visit to Southeast Kitchen was a no brainer. There were only seven tables in the restaurant and one was luckily empty. We ordered at the counter and receive a tableside delivery of food, and paid as we left. I would happily travel over an hour from my house a few times a week to eat here. The red curry shrimp was perfectly rich and almost buttery, spicy, explosively flavorful, and a portion size that was fit for leaving me nearly unable to walk back to my car comfortably. It was probably the tastiest curry I've ever had. My date chose beef verm that he said was tender and seasoned perfectly. Definitely worth a trip from south Jersey again. Had been dying to try this place ever since I discovered it. Sadly, I didn't enjoy my drunken noodles. I asked for extra spicy--which it had a good amount of spice to it, but it just kind of tasted like spicy pad thai. There was this sweet, peanuty flavor that is just not typically present in drunken noodles. There were also no veggies except for red bell peppers and some basil. Price is very good though for Thai and takeout was quick and easy. The place looked clean and nice inside. Absolutely deeeelicious!!!! The food was so flavorful. I ordered the wrong type of Spring roll and the owner replaced it with no hesitancy and replaced it with the one I should have ordered!!!! Thank you kind sir!!!! Now that is how you get repeat business. He paid a lot of attention to my meal preferences ( I'm vegetarian ) and he asked if I ate fish. I appreciate that because many times people assume that I eat fish (no, I don't)...... Everything is cooked fWe are so happy because we have found a great restaurant. HOWEVER....... you do not want to go when the owner is not there. We've made that mistake three times...... the last time I ordered an appetizer and a meal and requested a mild spice level. The waitress brought out my appetizer with my meal and said" You may want to taste that.... pointing to my meal. This let me know the spice level was too hot. When I returned it and told her, her response was..."I thought so." Really...... wait there is more. My husband received his meal first...... then his appetizer...... so I repeat ..... don't come when the owner is not there...... I won't even get into the profanity coming from the kitchen....... She then said it can only be 2.5 because anything that says spicy.... already has the spices in it....... She said all this with an"attitude." I decided to just stick with the spring rolls. Southeast Kitchen is my go to Asian spot in Wilmington! I have been a faithful customer since they opened last year, and have yet to have a less than amazing experience. The location is pretty cozily located in the heart of trolley square. The area was lacking a good, authentic, affordable spot, and SEK has since definitely fulfilled that need. I think most people do takeout, but there are a few tables to sit at if you have time. The restaurant itself is simple, but always clean. The menu has a large selection of Asian dishes, but in addition, they ALWAYS have specials posted on a board inside the restaurant. I have tried at least 75% of the menu, and nothing has been bad. Some of my "must try's" are the wings, pho, and lemongrass beef, but you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu! Service is always great, as well :) read more

We recently discovered Southeast Kitchen (corner of Delaware Ave and Lincoln). It is SUPER cheap and really good! We ordered two entrees, a salad and 1/2 Vientamese sub for $23!! The interior is very cute- bright pink and green colors and they even have some authentic Asian sauces and noodles for purchase. There are about two tables inside, I think their aim of this restaurant is to appeal to take out diners. But, there was a couple eating at the table inside the restaurant. We had the beef salad- it was delicious and the dressing was light yet tasty. Filled with shredded carrots, sliced beef, lettuce, cilantro and red peppers and onions. Perfect for summer! Also ordered was the Chicken Basil- my boyfriend loved the flavoring and I had the Yellow Chicken Curry. This was good, but not stellar. Description said the dish came with mixed veggies, so I was picturing snap peas, brocolli, peppers, onions, etc...but the only veggies were two large chunks of carrots and potatoes. There wasn't quite enough sauce on this dish (or perhaps the rice absorbed most of it). I think next time I will try something different. DEFINITELY TRY the Vietnamese Hoagie. We got a half (for $3.50!!!) and it was delicious. So fresh and a nice alternative to the traditional sandwich or hoagie. I really enjoyed the food I have tried here so far. Pork bahn mi was very delicious. Nice portions of sliced pork with shredded daikon, carrots, cucumber, and my favorite herb, cilantro. Sandwich was well seasoned within a wonderfully crisp and slightly chewy textured toasted roll. The drunken noodles were also very tasty. Basically pad thai with basil with the exception that they also add some coconut milk. The dish was very moist, flavorful and had a bit of spice. The Vietnamese iced coffee was good too, but could have used a bit more condensed milk which I will ask for next time. Overall, I think this is a great take out and casual dine in spot. They have daily/weekly specials which looked very interesting too. The people I met were friendly and the food was prepared and cooked quickly. I arrived for an early dinner to go so not sure how things are during a lunch or dinner rush. The prices are fair and fit into my daily eats category for lunch or dinner. They also have a small selection of bottled/canned ingredients and drinks for sale. Its nice to have another Southeast Asian food option in Wilmington. read more

I had high expectations from looking at other reviews but was very disappointed. Perhaps the traditional Asian dishes are a hit, but my "Salmon Special" was nothing to get excited about. The salmon was breaded horribly and overcooked. The portion size was very small for the $15 I paid and was cut very thin. The whole dish looked and tasted like fish sticks. The bed of vegetables it came with were raw and only made edible by the sweet sauce they were drenched in. It's a shame that the food is not better because the restaurant is in a great location and looks great inside. read more

Hmmmmm. I'm not in New York anymore, am I... The staff here is extremely polite and the prices are very fair. I ordered tofu Pad Thai. A little confusing as the sauce wasn't mixed in with all of the noodles, so when I got home I thought they forgot to add the sauce. When I realized and mixed it all together, the sauce seemed too sweet for me and didn't have much of a peanut taste. There was a good amount of cilantro, a LOT of tofu, and no vegetables (aside from sprouts). I want to go back here (are there any other Thai restaurants in Wilm?) but I'll order something different next time for sure. read more

They messed up Pad Thai. Their version was burnt flavorless chicken with no peanut sauce. I don't remember the other meal I had here that well except that it, like my recent one, featured not so fresh ingredients and left me with an uneasy stomach and also cost too much. Throw in the dingy ambience and I become truly confused by this place's high reviews. I will say the crunchy spring roll appetizer I got was really tasty. In my opinion, this restaurant wouldn't do well where I'm from in Chicago, but the above rating is a testament to the context of Wilmington, Delaware. The food options are rather limited. I took my coworkers here after a long day at work. It was unclear whether we should have sat down first or ordered at the counter, and we weren't greeted for a couple of minutes. Things went smoothly when we were sat down. The menu has a lot of stuff that is usually specialized at restaurants, from Thai curry to pho, which made me a little wary. I ordered some Satay Chicken and some red curry. Both portions were pretty mediocre for the $18+ I paid for them. I ended up eating a few snacks when I got home. We will be back! Spicy scale is out of five. A two is an American medium spicy and is how the dishes are served by default; they are more than willing to customize the spiciness of any dish. We've been going here for a year or more now, and always a good meal. Simple, tasty, reasonably priced. The owner, Lai always comes to say hello, and makes the guests feel comfortable and welcome. I typically get one of the curry dishes or salmon. Never any complaints. They'll even remove the tails from the shrimp prior to serving, always a plus with me. A true neighborhood staple. read more

I love this place. I only get take out and I every time I get it (frequently) it is delicious. I have had at least eight different menu items (not all at the same time) and they have all been great. Came here on a Sunday evening with my friends. It wasn't too crowded so just as a party was leaving, we were able to get seats. I ordered the beef pad thai and it was really underwhelming compared to that of other places. It lacked flavor and seemed almost a bit watered-down, despite the peanut toppings. Just got back from having dinnner there and the food was excellent. We ordered the springrolls, pho and red curry and really enjoyed them. The staff was super friendly too. The only part that maybe did not fully deserve a 5star review was the comfort of the benches (the chairs are fine). These benches are just not comfortable at all but the restaurant wasn't too crowded when we came so they allowed us to move the table so that we could use 2 chairs instead of sitting on the bench; that was super nice of them!!! I've been eating here for years & love it. It's great for takeout or there are tables and a window counter if you want to eat in (very casual & minimal). The food is really good! The menu states they have no gluten-free options but there actually are a couple possibilities (do not take this review as gospel; make sure you ask them first! Ingredients change). * the curries are generally GF-okay (occasionally could use more flavor; can be a bit hit or miss - a few times the sauce has tasted mostly like coconut milk) * summer rolls (rice vermicelli, shrimp, etc in rice paper - no plum sauce) * some of the bun dishes (served on rice vermicelli) * the crispy spring rolls are wrapped in rice paper and fried. So delicious. You have no idea how super happy this makes me after never being able to eat spring rolls for years! (nb: decide for yourself about cross-contam but I haven't had a problem.) read more

I went here with my work colleagues and most of them were vegetarians. The place is kept really simple with a live kitchen. They had really good specials on the board which catered to vegetarians and non veggies alike. We picked a few spicy dishes, lettuce rolls and salt and pepper tofu. Almost all of it was great. They have an open kitchen with really good service. I would give it 5 stars if they had a liquor license. But you can BYO from shops around the corner. read more

I came as a visitor from California with my family and had heard about this place from my Aunt. She said that she knew the owner and that he treats her really well whenever she was in so I had to come check it out. First things first, the food here is AMAZING. You could taste the freshness with every bite and the owner was right there explaining how he made it and confirmed what flavors you were tasting. Secondly, the hospitality was the best that I've ever had in a restaurant and the staff does a very great job of making sure you're fine. Lastly, the owner Lai... Amazing human being that takes pride in his work and is very passionate about what he does. I've never met him before and he was feeding me not only this amazing food but some Brain Food that I will never forget. I recommend this place to ANYONE who loves Thai and a great ambiance. My friend and I had never had banh mi before coming here. It was delicious! Nicely cooked meat on a fresh roll with shredded carrot and cucumber and cilantro. Today we tried the Pho. It also was very good. The broth has good flavor, the noodles were just right. I asked for the meat to be served on the side, as I don't like it overcooked. There could be more vegetables served with it, but what we got was ample enough. I can never get enough cilantro! Also had the spring rolls today. Arrived very hot, served with a delicious sweet sauce. Try the canned chrysanthemum (spelling?) tea available in the frig. We look forward to trying a rice dish/noodle dish next time! I saw this place was highly rated on Yelp and decided to give it a try. As always, Yelp did not disappoint. The food was incredible and the servings were pretty big too. Tried the Tom Yum soup - delicious and the drunken noodles were full of flavor. Also had some Vietnamese tea since which was great as well. They have a small 'grocery' section which has some curry pastes and rice noodles that aren't easy to find in the Wilmington area. I picked up the Tom Yum paste and will try to make it at home. I doubt mine will turn out to be as good as they serve at the restaurant! Had a brilliant experience, the staff was so friendly. Can't wait to go back and try more things on their menu. read more

I love thai and vietnamese food so I thought I'd try this place since it's in my neighborhood. It was okay, sorry. There was some weird odor in the restaurant that I just couldn't shake. They service was pretty slow for takeout.. I saw my food sitting on the counter for 5 minutes before I had to ask if it was my order and then they finally packaged it up and gave it to me. I had the grilled curry salmon... the sauce was pretty good but the salmon wasn't fresh..tasted fishy. I'd go again, I just probably call my order in ahead of time and order a typical standard dish.. nothing fancy. read more
