This place is FANTASTIC! The chef owner takes great pride in food and of his eat-in customers (the place recently introduced BYOB w/a $1pp corkage fee -- how could you beat that?!). Everything is fresh and made-to-order, and its taste shows. You cannot go wrong with whatever you order, but there are a few must-haves: Steamed Kitchen Dumplings, Tom Kha Gai coconut milk soup, Drunken Noodles are our personal favorites. BE AWARE that if you try calling in to order for pickup and no one answers, it's because they are too busy to pick up the phone. They will not sacrifice the quality of their food if they don't have the ability to answer your call or the capacity to prepare your food because the kitchen is too busy. Alright, Alright! The elusive 5 star rating has made it to Southeast Kitchen! This BYOB is simply wonderful, and while it started as my go-to takeout joint, I now love dining in. In an area full of mediocre restaurants I think Southeast really stands out. The owner and his staff are super friendly, helpful with menu suggestions and are just terrific people if you ask me! My suggestions : Bahn Mi. These are delicious, I always order one, regardless of how many things I've already ordered. The roll is toasted to perfection and the pickled veggies scream greatness. The salt and pepper shrimp or tofu. OMG, if you're reading this....o r d e r n o w . So great. The Basil & Shanghai Baby Bok Choy -another perfect dish. the flavors, all of the flavors, perfect. The pad thai, red curry, summer rolls, and bok choy are delicious as well. Yes, I'm hype this place, but what they are doing in the kitchen is nothing less than superb. My review is long long due! Everything you've likely heard about this small place in Wilmington is true! The south Asian food is to die for especially the "Salt & Pepper Tofu". This and the chicken dumplings along with any one of the curries Panang, green curry used to form our staple dinner diet. Working and living in the city was always hard but an occasional dinner here made it livable. Fantastic food must try along with a side of green tea. I've been a regular customer ordering pretty much the same thing for me and my husband for a while, no issues until day before. Day before, we ordered the same food again and me and my husband have had a stomach bug, vomiting ever since. I called in to complain and instead what I hear from the manager is that he's angry at me that me and my husband had this stomach bug and vomiting. He was so unpleasant to me that he literally used the words "I am angry at you for complaining". He wouldn't reimburse the money or do anything about it. I highly recommend not going to this place. So we drove down to Trolley Square to place the order in person, and wait in the car, and then take the take-out home. We get there and they refuse to take our order! What? "Only phone orders". "But your phone doesn't work?!" Plus, we are right here, in your restaurant. They did not allow us to order take out. They did not want to hear that their phone doesn't work. I've eaten here probably 6-7 times and the food is always good- but I just had one of the weirdest/worst customer service experiences. My takeout was packaged really tightly and so the lid on my soup burst and got on the rest of the food/my car. I know they were busy tonight so I waited and called closer to closing to ask for a refund of only the soup (because I totally understand these things happen) first guy who answered the phone was nice- then I got transferred to his boss. I explained the situation and used the phrase "packaged poorly" and then he interrupted me- scolded me for using that phrase, saying that mistakes happen but this wasn't their fault, and that I need to correct my attitude. I'm honestly so confused as to why he felt like he had to lecture me because I genuinely wasn't trying to be rude. But he raised his voice further as I tried to explain where I was coming from so I hung up and will unfortunately never eat here again. No food is worth being treated like shit over the phone for asking a simple request. Bummer This used to be my favorite restaurant to order from. The owner is extremely rude. I mean like a complete d!ck. I ordered soup and it was packaged with a side of rice on top of it and tied too tightly. The side of rice broke through the top of the soup container and the broth got all over my car. Accidents happen, but when I called to ask for a refund for the soup (not the whole order even though it got on everything else) since 1/3 of the soup had been spilled the owner got extremely confrontation and told me that "he has been in this business a long time" and "that he knows how to package food" and that "I was wrong." Fun fact: I've also been in the restaurant industry a long time. I don't believe that the customer is always right, but I do believe the owner of an establishment shouldn't be an arrogant a$$hole who yells at their customers who've accumulatively spent hundreds of dollars at their business. Food is excellent!! Came here after reading the yelp reviews and I was not disappointed. We ordered the chicken wings. I was nervous that it was going to be spicy but it was not as spicy and i was glad because I could partake. :) The wings were crispy with a thai sweet and spicy sauce. There was some spice. I came hungry so i ordered the Bok Choy side as an appetizer that is made with garlic and oyster sauce. I really enjoyed them. They had a crunch and the flavor was good and seasoned well. For my main dish I ordered the Vietnamese yellow curry with rice and it was delicious. Everyone in my party ebjoyed their dish. The service was excellent and everyone was very friendly. I really enjoyed the meal. I ordered the chicken fried rice and crispy spring rolls. The egg rolls had a nice crunch to them and the sauce provided gave it a nice kick. The fried rice was delicious. Too Spicy!! My husband and I ordered a red and green curry for dinner tonight and remembered why we haven't gotten take out from here in over six months even tho it's right around the corner. This stuff is on fire, not in a good way. We asked for a 3 out of 5 on the spice scale because we both like some heat. But this is lips on fire/nose running uncomfortable. It's like the people who prepare the food are playing a cruel joke on customers who get take out. Or they don't know how to add moderate spice. It's a bummer. We're too tired to take it back for a redo, we have a three month old baby at home and this was our last ditch effort for the day. We'll dream of fire engines tonight. Phenomenal! The food here is so good that It's addicting! I ordered the drunken noodles, the tom yum kung (shrimp). The noodles I enjoy without any veggies or meat so that I can be enjoy it with the sauce. The tom yum soup however surprised me, it was just bursting out with flavor, with a nice little kick. The heat level was just perfect. You can tell that they take pride in their food and that is the extra step that makes good food into great food. We came here for lunch on a Friday.. on recommendation by a colleague. The Southeast chicken wings were amazing crispy.. with black pepper on them and were sweeter than I expected. The 5 stars for these wings.. though a bit sweet. We also ordered steamed dumplings which were good. Drunken noodles were good too.. chicken wasnt as much in quantity as we would have preferred but the noodles were spicy so we liked the dish. My husband and I are not from the area and decided to try this place out on a weekend trip to Wilmington. Pros: -nice decor -Servers were very friendly when they were around -My chicken vermicelli bowl had a nice flavor and generous portion Cons: -Servers were not very attentive. While I also enjoy soccer and understand their enthusiasm (and I am also all for ppl finding some enjoyment and breathing room at work), it might be more professional to keep the noise down and check on customers a few times. - ingredients are not listed accurately on menu. My vermicelli bowl came sprinkled with peanuts, which I am allergic to. This was not listed anywhere in the item's description. I did speak to the waitress while ordering and shared that I have a lot of allergies, made my order very plain, and asked specifically if anything else came on top to which she answered no. She was very apologetic and accommodating, but this is a menu issue that the restaurant owner should fix, especially when it comes to ingredients that many ppl have allergies to. -my food came out about 7 minutes after my husband's food (my original order with the unexpected peanuts). That's a huge delay. Then, by the time they remade my food and brought out my peanut-free order, my husband had almost finished his meal. Kind of takes the enjoyment out of a date when you're not even eating together. -Thai iced tea was disgusting - and I mean absolutely disgusting. I took one sip and threw it away. I ordered it light ice and, as another reviewer here mentioned, they gave me a cup about 2/3 full. Ok fine, I know ice takes up some room. But the glass itself is pretty small and I still had about 1/3 cup of ice in there. $5 for something that I'll drink in a few sips feels a little ridiculous - but I didn't complain. But when I tried it... it was worst Thai tea that I've ever had. It wasn't sweetened AT ALL, and it had some kind of aftertaste that made me gag. I've had Thai tea from carryouts and mall kiosks that was better than this. I was expecting it to not be the best - but the fact that it wasn't sweet at all and had a kind of rancid aftertaste - it was literally undrinkable. I had ordered it to go so i just threw it away. If I had tried it at the restaurant, I would have asked for my money back. Overall, really disappointed about this place. It has potential, and some of the food was good. The best Vietnamese food I have ever had in my life. If you are in the area please don't overlook this place. I think it may be the best restaurant in Delaware.
