We biked to Los Gatitos while visiting Block Island. We started with the chips, salsa and queso. It was absolutely so good. The salsa had a very distinct flavor not like anything I had ever had. The waitress recommended the cheeseburger for my side and it didn't disappoint. It had two thin patties with cheese accompanied by tortilla chips. I had a chop salad and it was so fresh and delicious. The dressing was so good. We actually dipped chips in it great spot! read more

The food was great! Definitely satisfied my mexican craving. The ambiance is pretty casual, just some seating outside as you can see in the photo. The service was kind of meh, the waiter was rushing me to pay the check and leave even though my table had all our drinks still full. Really surprised by the reviews on this one. I was not at all disappointed. The service was good, the food and the view were great. It's a great little breezy lunch spot and bar. We had the nachos, and a half order was huge. Tons of toppings, very fresh. The burrito bowl was nothing amazing, but again the ingredients were very fresh. Ever since we discovered their street corn 5 or so years ago, we have been coming every year on our trips! Their street corn is amazing (both on and off the cob). They have such a prime view of the beaches of Block Island! The staff has always been good to us. Would definitely recommend for Mexican food while visiting Block! read more

Solid fare for lunch. We had two types of tacos. Brisket and chicken. Guacamole on the chicken and a side of rice and beans for the other. Both were good and solid choices. Servers were kind and efficient. Good beer selection. We ate inside and it was fine. It's a huge bar with lots of space. Pool table and darts. There were a few things that I really enjoyed about this place, including the food, but there were also a few things that I didn't like. The nachos were huge and delicious and the burrito bowl was perfect! My daughter had the quesadilla and my son had the regular tacos, which they both enjoyed. What we didn't enjoy is that all of the tables wobble...all of them. They also use plastic forks and knives and the tiniest and least absorbent napkins on the planet, which are in a bucket on the table, which I felt kind of cheapened the place, especially for BI. The service was slow, but they were all friendly. The margs started off great, but then turned to basically mix and no booze. Overall, I'd go back again. read more

This is a fun place for a drink on Block Island, with tasty and homey tex-mex food. I would definitely return for a low-key, tasty meal and drink. An additional stand out was the exceptional service - - after I left! I had treated my friends,, so I had given my credit card to pre-pay the bill, and then forgot to get my credit card back. I realized my credit card was gone after I left Block Island, so called on the phone and they were amazing - - mailed me back my credit card, and wouldn't even let me pay them. The whole setup is kinda weird because Los Gatitos is closely run in conjunction with Yellow Kittens. The two businesses are located next to each other. Los Gatitos is the Mexican restaurant side of the business (located on an outdoor deck) and Yellow Kittens is the bar part of the business (located indoors). In the evenings Yellow Kittens will host live bands. Got that? To call this place a Mexican restaurant is a stretch. It's basically an outdoor bar that serves Mexican bar food. They serve nachos, burritos and tacos. Big whoop dee doo. But that doesn't mean the food is bad. It's not. My nachos were quite excellent (unfortunately they contained 2 billion calories) and my Narragansett Shady was nice and cold. It's a nice place to stop after hitting Fred Benson Beach to grab some suds and grub. Personally I wouldn't plan on eating any big dinner time meals here. It just isn't that type of place. read more

I have been coming here since the mid 80's when I waa single and it was more of a dance club. I rediscovered it with my young family in the late 90's. We would come after a beach day and have margaritas and clam strip burritos, which were incredible. About 6 years they came under new ownership as Los Gatitos. No more clam burritos but the food was still pretty good. Fast forward to now. The Margarita are very sweet and the service is very slow. Not a busy day either. Waiting 20 minutes for our appetizers so far. 45 minutes in, after I asked where our appetiters were, our all our food came. We'll, the portions were a bit small and presentation was a bit like a school cafeteria. Our Veggi burgers were undercooked as well. Time to look for a new place. read more

The star of the menu here is the absolutely towering, ridiculous nachos. A full plate of nachos feeds two or three people. They're a joyous voyage of discovery - take a left at the guacamole mountain to delve into the bean cave, and beware the salsa reservoir! Both the pork and beef are terrific accompaniments, but honestly, they're sufficient even in their default vegetarian state. They're even gluten-free! Nowhere near healthy, but not containing gluten. Definitely accompany them with an expensive, but quite large margarita that is clearly made from powdered margarita mix. The place turns into a nightclub and turns off the kitchen after 8pm. read more

I stopped in here for lunch after a morning on the beach and wasn't disappointed. A kind hostess brought us to our table on the deck without a wait, where cold cups of water greeted us immediately and were efficiently refilled throughout my visit - a small gesture but meaningful after being out in the hot sun. I ordered a frozen margarita which was decently flavored and super refreshing. The street corn is delicious, and the fish tacos were fresh and tasty (especially with the pineapple salsa added). Also, wherever I see yuca fries on the menu, I always get them, and was glad I did. The prices and portions were fair, and the service attentive. While not the most "authentic" Mexican food, there wasn't anything I didn't enjoy and I will definitely be back. A chill spot for lunch worth checking out. read more

When we're on the Island, we end up here at least once a day -- usually for lunch, after a morning on the beach. Their mudslides are the best you'll find, the service is fun and friendly, and the nachos are ideal for sharing. I've split tortas and quesadillas, but the nachos are always the star of the table. You can customize them as you please, but we're big fans of beef brisket with all the fixings. If you've had Mexican food anywhere on the East coast then you'll know this isn't the cuisine's most authentic form, but it sure does hit the spot. Bar service is always on point. The mudslides, as I said, are not to be missed. You even have two sizing options, which is great. I usually only want a half before we head back home. Margaritas, palomas, and cerveza are also good on a summer day (warning: cocktails are strong). They also have pinball and table tennis inside. If you're in town or on Fred Benson Beach, it's easy to walk. You can also park in their lot/on the street outside. read more

I've been here before but that was prior to me being on yelp. On this most recent occasion, I had a frozen strawberry margarita and a chicken quesadilla. Both were great. My date was already drunk when we got there so he was kind of ruining the whole thing for me but the food was good. I'll be back next time I'm on the island. read more

Might be the best tacos my hubby n I ever had! He had brisket, I had chicken. We both got the soft corn tacos. We are picky with our Mexican fare but these were delicious "street" tacos! I suggest adding the pickled jalapeños and the cilantro sour cream with the hot sauce! read more

Food and drinks were very mediocre, price value was much higher than the quality of our food. Service on the other hand was horrendous, our server never at one point brought us waters..we had to ask them multiple times and it still took longer than appropriate. Our server was very rude and short with us as a table and very inattentive. At the end of our meal we tipped what we thought was appropriate and was later approached in the evening (at a different location by the same waiter) and was harassed saying that I tipped like a crappy person. Bomb Mexican food. I have to say my expectations weren't very high since it's on a little touristy sort of towny type of island... but it was so good. A solid Tex-Mex restaurant with a pleasant outdoor deck. Because I planned on riding my bicycle around the island, I didn't want to stuff my face, so I passed on the frozen margarita and the nachos, both of which looked amazing at other diner's tables. I ordered the burrito bowl with the catch of the day (mahi mahi) $14, and my wife got the chicken burrito ($10), which I also sampled. Both were tasty, but the chicken burrito seemed a better buy. It can be a challenge to get a good meal at tourist destinations like block island. My family members love this Mexican restaurant but I was not too impressed. Service was very good and the starter nachos with everything were delicious. The environment is more of a bar than a restaurant but sitting on the outdoor deck was nice on a pretty day. There were some vegetarian choices available but in the form of veggie burger crumbles. And I tried the regular hamburger which I would not recommend. It came out cold & nearly raw at first but they said that was their medium they did throw it back on the grill even though I had cut it in half and brought the original back out with the original soggy bun and then hot, mushy toppings. I was surprised ordering a Coke there are no free refills. We also try the lobster quesadilla which was not good either. The lobster was way overcooked so chewy and overall bland and basic for the price. I would consider stopping in for a drink and an appetizer but would not consider this a great place to get a meal while on the island. read more
