A friend recently gifted me a delicious frozen peach pie from Southern Baked Pie Company, I admit I was a little skeptical but I'm a sucker for pie so after a few days I decided to pop it in the oven and hoped for the best. I've eaten a lot of pie over the years, homemade, fresh baked from a bakery and from the freezer, this peach pie was one of the best peach pies I have ever ever ever eaten hands down. The crust and lattice work was amazing, the pie was loaded with larges slices of peaches folded into a slight tart filling and for me the most impressive feature of the pie besides the taste was the texture of the fruit which was still relatively firm instead of being mushy like you get in some fruit pies. I am definitely a fan of this bakery and fortunately for me I have a camping trip planned next month in very close proximity to them and will absolutely pay them an in person visit to see what other goodies they have to offer and to fill my freezer. I have not been here in person, but I found out about this company after searching online for products that I could send to my parents as a gift for babysitting my dog for two weeks. This company's ad came up on Instagram and I was really pleased with the options - I was especially excited when I saw that they have a special Grandparents Package online that include included four mini savory pies and four sweet pies. This is a perfect way to try a variety and is great for two people to share one pie or each person to have their own pie if they are very hungry. I placed my online order yesterday and because I wanted the food to arrive as soon as possible. I picked the same day as the delivery date - I was so surprised that they actually got started on the order right away and even way more impressive is that the pies were delivered to my parents house in a neighboring state literally today, about 24 hours later. They were so pleased with the unboxing and they are looking forward to enjoying the food this week. I may have to order myself some now after seeing these reviews and pictures. Well, I am not here to comment on the quality of the food or the ambience of the place, I just want to give props to this company and their amazing customer service and quick turnaround. They have quickly gained a new customer, besides just me, as now my parents are already thinking of sending these as gifts themselves and I have told several of my family in the Atlanta area to go check them out. For the sake of honesty, let me start by saying my initial experience with the Gainesville store was not awesome. BUT... Management made it right and I sincerely appreciate that effort even though I didn't expect or ask for anything like that to happen. The director of operations went above and beyond and it says a lot about a company when their upper management actually cares that much about one customer's experience. All I wanted was to make a listing error known after what I thought I ordered turned out to be something completely different. My issue was more than fixed by the DoO personally bringing me the pot pie I'd thought I'd ordered as well as a full sized key lime pie; and I'm so appreciative of the effort put forth to make things right. It was completely unexpected but a beautiful gesture just the same. With that said... My thoughts on the food? Cons: I do think it's a bit pricey for a pot pie or a pie in general. The filling needs to be a bit thicker. It was a tad too runny. Pros: Can I make a great pot pie from scratch at home? Yes. Did I have time to do that this week? No. Is mine as good as theirs? Filling wise? Maybe, however theirs did have a very nice flavor. But their crust is FABULOUS! And just so happens to be the best part of a pot pie, in my opinion and I humbly admit, in that realm, they have me beat by miles. We got the frozen, take and bake, which was super convenient. Directions were easy to follow. Just remove the plastic wrap, pop in the oven on 400 for 30 minutes and then lower temp to 375, bake again for an additional 50-60 minutes. Leaving me without having the usual mess I create when I make my own pot pie and after an incredibly busy Monday-Wednesday, I was so grateful! The key lime pie... all I can say is WOW!! I'm not a dessert baker and don't really eat dessert often but I could make an exception for that pie, ANY TIME!! It was just the right balance of tart and sweet, and so creamy! I also loved, even though this is probably an unpopular opinion, that they didn't cover the pie in meringue. Over all, initial error/experience aside, I'm very happy with the food and its quality, as well as the business ethics of the company as a whole. Would I do it again? Yeah, I think I would. It's a healthier option than fast food and even with the price being a bit high, I think it's worth it. read more

My father in law's 70th birthday was last November and his favorite pie is a sugar cream pie - he used to live in Indiana. I came across Southern Baked Pie when looking for a company that ships sugar cream pie. We ordered the sugar cream celebration pie - now titled birthday cake pie on the website and the caramel pecan pie to be delivered to our house for when we celebrated his birthday. The pies came well shipped and quickly to me in NC. I had never had sugar cream pie, but it is a nice, very sweet pie! I loved the frosting edge on Southern Bake Pies version. My husband did not care for the texture the sprinkles brought, but still enjoyed it - I think he was just looking for the classic pie he grew up with in Indiana. My in-laws though - loved it. So much we ordered it again for my mother in law's birthday gift and shipped it directly to her. The caramel pecan pie was also fantastic! The pies are definitely expensive especially with the shipping, so I can only order when there is some sort of promo code going on - look out for them as they can save you a pie or a shipping fee. read more

Ordered a 10" Pot roast pie and it was spectacular!! Wayyy better than what I could've imagined! Also got a 5" tomato pie and it was also amazing!! Will be returning to try more of their pies! I'm very disappointed with Southern Baked pies. Please be careful when placing an order to be shipped. I ordered pies as a Christmas gift to my in-laws and the pies were delivered a week late. I notified the company and was told the pies should not be consumed because they arrived so late and was denied a refund. I'm out $154.00 now. I've been a loyal customer for years as I send their pies as gifts to my entire family and friends spending hundreds every year so I feel a bit betrayed by the company. Caveat Emptor! BUYER BEWARE and DON'T buy these very expensive pies! I can bake a good pie (or easily go to Whole Foods or Publix!) and save a tremendous amount of money. The pricing is ridiculous and there's nothing special or unique about the taste. But most importantly, their Customer Service is some of the absolute WORST I've ever experienced in my 60 years. Their ApplePay system changes delivery address to billing address. So I ended up with $500 of pie at MY front door. I finally spoke with the owner, Amanda Wilbanks, even though she was busy "running a million dollar business" as I was told. How did she help me? She didn't. AT ALL. She offered absolutely NOTHING to make things right or take ANY responsibility. She couldn't have caref less that $500 was A LOT of money for me to send gifts. She didn't lift a finger and I got BURNED. My copy of her cookbook is now available at Goodwill. read more

I was looking for dessert in town and stumbled upon this place. I decided to try the birthday cake/cake batter type of pie. I only got a slice of it. I did enjoy the pie, but I was surprised how small the slice was. It was only a few bites. If you're in the mood for pie, I'd recommend more than one slice per person. read more

My father has a medical condition that often leaves him without an appetite, causing him to lose way too much weight. I asked him if there was anything he wanted to eat, and he asked for chicken pot pie. I went looking for a place that would deliver a delicious pot pie and found the Southern Baked Pie Company. I ordered one of their 5" pies, and he, shockingly, ate almost the whole thing!! I tasted a nibble once he was done, and the pie was the best chicken pot pie I've ever tasted!! I ordered some more pies for my parents today, and the delivery system didn't note when the store closed, promising to deliver well after closing time. Janice called me to let me know they would be closed when the delivery service was supposed to pickup. When she heard how my father loves their pies, even when he doesn't have an appetite, she told me not to worry about it and that she'd take care of it. Wow, I am impressed. I am the lucky recipient of a caramel pecan pie via delivery from GA to MO. After my mailman left and I saw the company from which my gift had been sent, I knew this was going to be good. And it was. It was better than good--it was excellent. The highest compliment I can give this pie is that it is just as good as my own. And I make dang good pecan pie. The packaging was really good. The pie was double shrink wrapped. Then wrapped in bubble wrap. Then that along with an ice pack were put into this big foam insulated bag and taped closed. Then that went into the USPS box for priority shipping. The ice pack was still cold when it made it to my home. My pie was in perfect condition with not a crumble broken off the crust! And that crust is as good as everyone says. The filling is rich, sweet, and buttery. The pecans are fresh with a perfect roasted flavor. So tasty! I highly recommend their pies for gift giving. read more

Satan bakes pies here. This place is nothing but the devil and a diet destroyer. I hate that I've discovered it. I hate that it's right around the corner from work and I hate that I'm absolutely helpless to resist. Omg. These pies are simply to die for. I'm not kidding. I love sweets, I love pie and the little gems that come out of this adorable place full of friendly workers are some of the best things I've eaten. Like ever. Crust...pure flaky buttery goodness. I routinely eat all of the crumbs out of the box. It would be a crime to let any morsel escape. My current favorite is the signature buttermilk. I'd actually not had this type of pie before, but after one bite we were getting along like life long friends. I don't know how the sour tartness of the buttermilk is preserved in the creamy sweetness of the filling, but it is...and the texture and taste are perfect. Second fav is the lemon chess...another amazing combo of tart and sweet...this pie reminds me of springtime and Easter, but this greedy pig is happy to eat it anytime. I also love the chocolate chess...and I'm not usually a chocolate fanatic but this filling manages to be decadent and rich tasting, but it feels amazingly light. It's perfection...all in a little pie pan. I've taken the coconut custard and pecan to friends and they were beloved by all. My mom has basically instructed me to bring her a pie home every time I make a Gainesville-Atlanta run. And that's from a lady who is very particular about her sweets y'all. Basically, I'm in love. Buttermilk Pie Co. is no doubt delicious. Their pie crusts really are the best I've had. Excellent crust! The actual pie filling is good, but not great. Every one seems to love them at parties. In terms of cost, they are a bit overpriced. I do understand that a new business does accrue some hefty start up costs, but $30+ for a pie is a bit steep. Maybe $25 would be a better number. The small pies are priced at $9 a pop. That is actually a bit ridiculous. One person can eat one of their small pies easily. $6-7 would be more accurate. I actually don't order from here for the holidays because it's so expensive, but a few of my family members do. I would also say they need to more accurately advertise their promos. Some other reviewers had the same complaint. My husband and I went in for "free pie" one day since we were in the area, which I would assume meant a very tiny tiny slice of pie. That's fine! I would serve the same. What you actually got was a tiny tiny bite of pie. They probably should have advertised for "free pie samples" instead. My husband was so disappointed! read more

I was visiting my sister in Gainesville for the weekend, and decided I would drop in and pick up her favorite - chess pie - as a surprise. Seduced by a fresh strawberry pie, I walked out of the store with two, 60 bucks lighter and on Cloud 9. The chocolate chess pie was AMAZING and worth every single calorie. In fact, we finished it in two days... hot, cold, with and without ice cream. The strawberry pie was also very good, I grabbed a small slice before my niece insisted that I leave it with her. Love this place! The pies are incredible - such a simple and delicious choice for a group get together, dinner with family or as a meal for a new mother. We picked up a few recently on the way to Hilton Head and had an easy dinner for the first night when all the restaurants were packed. My money is on the pecan or the blueberry. Service is impeccable. It's not hard to keep a shop this small spic n span clean, and it is. Smiles abound on both sides of the counter. Forget about the price until you taste the second slice if you are so bold as to even slice into the thing and not eat it whole all by yourself. I was surprised at all the great reviews. I make pies myself and use quality ingedients, so I know how very cost-effective they are to make, so I wasn't happy that they charge up to 39.95 for one average size pie. Folks, that mark-up is serious price gouging. Other than that, the slice of pie I got was not that great. It was good, but if you're going to have a select specialty shop, you have to knock it out of the park. The girl waiting on me was nice enough but wasn't into answering questions. Wonderful! I'm never baking a pie again. We found this bakery by accident when we jumped of I-985 to go to Schlotzky's because we were starving. We walked past this bakery and stopped back in after we ate lunch. The inside is a pie lovers heaven. Gorgeous pies in a beautiful display case. The apple pie looked wonderful, so, that was the beginning of my order. 2 apple pies, a chicken pot pie, two small pies and $100 later, we left. At this point, I hadn't even tasted the pies. But, they described how they were made and I was hooked. I bought two small pies to try... strawberry and the buttermilk. They were so delicious I've decided I'm never baking another pie. Why should I spend the time to make pate brisee crusts when these people kick my ... well, you know what they kick. If you are going to open a pie kitchen you should be able to make a pie like they do! The crust is beyond anything I have ever had. I pick them up for special occasions as they are pricey but they deliver on taste when you want to splurge. Their signature Buttermilk pie is rightfully that. Not to heavy handed on sweetness but just right. For fall they rolled out the Carmel Apple pecan and it was well worth the decadence. I don't know how they do it and I'm glad I don't.
