What better way to enjoy a home cooked meal than in a home. Odd opening line, yes I agree but it is exactly that. Downtown Barrington IL is a beautiful stuck in time city. Centered in the middle of town the train station allows commuters to commute to and fro Barrington to Chicago. The homes in the city were built by successful professionals bringing with it very tasteful architecture. One of these beautiful homes has turned into a very beautiful restaurant with very tasteful dishes. Setting down getting ready to order I found myself taking in the decor, imagining the home as it once was and the aroma from the meals being prepared, the waitress interrupted my lost in thought moment, The menu consisted of so many epic dishes it was hard to choose just one, my Father ordered pancakes that would have served three people or lasted for a week, the omelette was the size of a small football and the country fried steak smothered with sausage gravy took me back to Texas size and Texas taste. Cute decor for the theme, with staged areas on the 'balconies'. Staff was friendly and attentive, even with it being a busy weekend. Parking can be a challenge, but there are some street spaces and parking lots around. We got a special, the hot honey fried chicken French toast, and the shrimp & grits. No complaints on the first - eggs were fluffy and delicious, the chicken was hot, crispy, and juicy, and the French toast was pretty standard. The sauce tied it all together. The sauce for the shrimp & grits was weirdly grainy like it split, but mixing it into the grits solved that issue. The shrimp were well seasoned and not overcooked, but my over easy eggs had a lot of uncooked white inside. Again, not a big deal because I just mixed them into the grits. Me and my sister and my brother-in-law we went to Southern Belle on a Sunday before the memorial day. It was around 1:30 PM when we reached the restaurant and first per empty because we were too late for branch. It took us about 30 minutes to just find the parking as there was a art fest going on. We were seated and ANNA was our server we ordered coffee asked for fresh juice, same they didn't have any fresh juice. I ordered avocado pesto Benedict which Anna told that it's gonna be really good. My sister ordered a Panini veggie Panini, which was not on the menu so she asked her to put some veggies and make a Panini which again Anna was very kind to get that accommodated. And my brother-in-law ordered chicken wrap in the meanwhile we are waiting for the food and I got us complimentary Bonuts, something that southern Belle have on their menu. Everything was really good. We enjoyed our branch, but the best part was Anna was really sweet and had a smiling personality and she was something who knew what's exactly in the restaurant kitchen and what exactly they can make for us and very accommodating. Came in today for breakfast. All was good except the coffee. The coffee was terrible. I asked the waitress if the coffee was fresh? She took the carafe and brought a new cup. It was no better. Coffee is not that difficult. It's a shame your restaurant got everything right, except the coffee. Maybe you purposely sell bad coffee to force the patrons to buy more expensive coffee. Not a good plan. You need better coffee. Heck, McDonald's has better coffee. read more

This is a tough review to figure out how to rate it. We've been frequent customers for the past few years, we order take out a lot and have dined in at least 15 times recently. My review will be an average of all our dine in experiences. The food is great at Southern Belle's, solid menu with some unique dishes. I don't have anything bad to say about the food quality, taste, and options. Really the only issue I've experienced on multiple occasions is the slow service. My servers forget to bring my coffee about 50% of the time I order it. Almost anytime we dine in the food takes longer than average to come out. It doesn't make much difference if there are 5 tables filled or the entire restaurant. I do t think it's the servers issue, because they're typically attentive and very friendly. I think it's an operational or staffing issue. During our visit today it was moderately busy but it took over 25 minutes to serve our breakfast and they did forget my coffee again. We love to support local businesses, however there are many other great breakfast restaurants within 5 miles like Egg Harbor and Jelly Cafe that have good food and consistently fast service. I hope they can figure out the service aspect, so we can keep coming to a place we really like read more

Went to brunch with some friends and the plates had huge portions of food. Basically took home another whole meal. The service great, we were waiting on some friends who were running late and our waitress checked on us very frequently and even our friends who were late. Very simple, crispy bacon , that means crispy, not soft fat running along the entire pieces, and well done potatoes, not served white, with a little tan and still actually cold. When we order we say please, just make the bacon crisp and the potatoes well done, we are in no hurry, and EVERY TIME it is wrong. Too bad, it's a cute place and it's actually good food, if only served as we requested. It's not inexpensive and they charge extra for every little thing and they never forget those extra charges, but they just can get the order done correctly. Yes, I will travel this far for this breakfast experience! When you first walk into this place it is like stepping directly into a southern road house with Grandma in the kitchen making her favorite thing. The ambiance of the place is homey and has baffles to help reduce the sound. It is still loud, but it is families, kids, and flatware against plates. There is a general feeling of happiness. My waitress was just a light of sunshine explaining the top foods, her personal favorites, and the amazing specials. Let me start by saying I LOVE a good biscuit... and this is ranked toward the top. I got the special honey butter fried chicken, egg and cheese biscuit, and thinking a sandwich wouldn't cut it completely, I order a side of biscuit and sausage gravy. To say it exceeded my expectations wouldn't be enough. This biscuit sandwich was MASSIVE! And the side of biscuit with gravy was also in the same realm. Both biscuits were light, flaky and flavorful. The chicken, with honey, egg, cheese was a phenomenal blend of flavors. The sausage gravy was seasoned well and I may have rolled my eyes back upon taking my first bite. Lastly, the price. We have eaten here many times. They offer vegan options, which brings us here. In addition, they have some unique and usually very good, often interesting breakfast items like shrimp and grits and southern eggs Benedict. Service usually is good once seated. Our last visit my son and I had dishes including fresh spinach. Both of us had diarrhea after breakfast. Me just once, him for several days. I know for sure this d was from my SB breakfast because I had not had spinach before this for weeks. Every time we come here the experience is elevated. The staff is absolutely amazing! Kristen, Alex and Anna are our Top 3 girls to see Typically our go to server is Anna but lately it has been Alex and she is just as sweet and attentive. She makes great suggestions to try new things on the menu and overall is very pleasant to talk to. The entire staff makes my boyfriend and I feel at home every time we come in which is practically every other day by knowing our go to order which is ALWAYS an Iced Honey Bee Latte with Oat Milk. Very nice breakfast/ lunch in downtown Barrington. Lots of food choices and a lovely selection of drinks. Hot and cold. We sat outside. There are four tables on the deck. It's not a great view. (CAR PARK) Inside was spacious with tables and booths. Our service was excellent from walking into to paying the bill. There were stairs up to the front door. I apologize because i didn't notice a ramp. But i could have missed it. The food we ordered was plentiful and delicious, and prices were reasonable. Southern Belle's is a cute cafe with interesting food options. There seems to be a little for everyone. I tried the honey lavender latte. It was mediocre, there was neither the taste of honey or lavender. I wasn't impressed. I mentioned it to our server and she said it was more of a subtle flavored latte. I've had it at many other places and when made right, I can taste both and they both taste so good with espresso. I ordered the special Biscuit Breakfast Sandwich, a biscuit with fried chicken breast and eggs. It arrived and looked tasty. One bite and it wasn't as good as it looked. The chicken was on the dry side and the biscuit wasn't as moist or fluffy so together it made for a difficult to eat item. The eggs were good though. Hubs had the skirt steak and eggs. He said they were good, though he ordered his skirt steak medium-rare and they came out well done. His over-easy eggs weren't runny at all. It was edible to him, but on that edge of shoe leather. The restaurant wasn't really busy. We went just after lunch at 12:40. Our server seemed somewhat new, but not in training. Walked in on a Saturday morning around 8am, a few other parties walked in along with us. A cute little house turned restraunt like place that had good vibes. When you first walk thru the door you got a host stand and slightly behind that in the "hallway" is a counter to pay at as well as look at a few of their morning coffees and juices. Service was great seated right away, waters brought out and after a bit of a wait (5 mins tops) which wasn't even long our waitress came by to apologize about making us wait! My S/O and I ordered a few various dishes that were decent in portion and flavor. Starting out with the mocha, even though it wasn't listed on the menu we were still able to order it. We laughed at the cups design as the handle had a hole about the size a pinky could fit in. Cute cup a bit impractical. But decent mocha could have used a touch more chocolate syrup to it. But thats mostly preference. Next we got their BoNuts... biscuit dough made donuts, ok. Sounded interesting and were quite good paired with the chocolate sauce they were tasty. It also came with a blueberry creamcheese like spread, which was delicious however we both agreed the cold of the spread and hot of the donut didnt mix the best. For the main breakfast items we got a biscuit dish, morning wrecker, which was not really to our cup of tea, it was almost too much going on, on one plate but the portion was huge, and I very much enjoyed the biscuit on top. As for the other dish it was a classic 2x2x2. Bacon was crispy and burnt like he asked for it. Eggs were fluffy and light and well the pancakes had a slight mishap but was remedied with a fresh new stack! He had asked for chocolate chip pancakes but as you can see in the pic it came out plain. We both ordered a side of grits plain, however they came out cheesy. Not wanting to bother again with another order recall we still ate them as is. However, his were almost too cheesy to eat and mine were a bit cheesy but the main factor that stood out was the butter, too buttery. We both agreed it took away from the essence of grits and the additives changed the texture a bit too much. Went there with high hopes. Cute inside. Our server was excellent. Our group shared an order of the Bonuts which were unremarkable. We each got one and mine was dry and overcooked. I ordered the corn bread sliders. While it was a generous portion, it was nothing remarkable and I would not recommend. It also did not sit well, but that could have just been me. The rest of our party just did eggs, bacon and toast/pancakes which are pretty hard to mess up. It's a bit pricey for what you get, but aren't most places these days. I'm so sad to have to write this review... we used to love Southern Belle's but clearly something changed. The service is horribly slow, you will wait a minimum of 10-15 mins just for someone to come to your table, and then another 15 minutes to even get your coffee. The food portions are HORRENDOUS! I attached a picture of my skillet. They don't even fill the whole bowl, only half, for $16?!! This was a horrible experience, and I agree with another review below, we love to support small businesses but after this experience we will be dining elsewhere. read more

I order every Saturday after traveling all week and today I was so disappointed. The Cajun grits were burnt & after 30min I still have a burnt taste in my mouth. I tried the corn bread with eggs, bacon, etc for the first time & the corn bread was so dry had to use a spoon while the bacon was not cut up and too hard to cut. It was also the 1st time my grits had just a tiny bit of cheese so it was just like eating plain grits. So sad as It was my favorite place. We both ended up having the same (can't say too much about good taste). Never ending "good coffee" is a must. Our wait-staff was friendly, professional and never made us feel we were rushed (I'm sorry I didn't catch her name). Ambiance is always enjoyable. We ended up having the following: Two sunny side up eggs, three pieces of bacon, Hash browns perfectly grilled, 2 pieces of Greek bread with all the regular accompaniments.
