Service friendly and great to excellent- our breakfasts were tasty but to be honest, they were basically the same as many hundred other Greek style diners in the greater Chicagoland area. Other reviewers mentioned that parking is somewhat of a problem- we had no problem on a Sunday mid-morning. Heck the Arlington Heights Metra station lot is right across the street... A solid pick if you are hungry and don't want a long wait in some of the fancier and pricier breakfast places in the western 'burbs.

I really liked this little breakfast/lunch joint. I had a great breakfast of ham 'n eggs with a very generous portion of ham off the bone, perfectly cooked eggs and crunchy potatoes. See my pic. I was there on a Saturday mid-morning and by the time I left there was a short line. I'll bet Sundays are really busy. They also have counter seating and you can see the grill chef work their trade. Great service too.

I'll echo Kensey W's thoughts on Village Grill - the portions are definitely generous, but the food itself is kinda meh. My crepes were pretty floppy and spongy and the filling (strawberries) were likely unfrozen at the last minute. Thus, I didn't find any wow factor in my breakfast. That being said, there are some redeeming qualities about this locally run diner. Hubs' omelette was giant and super affordable, the interior, while a bit dated, was clean, and the service was friendly and very, very fast. Our food came out in less than 10 minutes when we visited before the church crowd on a Sunday morning. I'd give Village Grill another go, but I'd opt for something other than crepes next time...probably something eggy and cheesy.

Home cooked flavor and good portions at good prices. It's not exactly gourmet food but it's done competently and quick. Not a bad place to stop by if you're in the area.

Nats were swarming around our food, the restaurant is outdated. Service was good, but overall the restaurant was dirty.

So it was off our list for a while. We've now started eating at the bar, which gets us away from much of the noise, and the food and service are still excellent. Today two of us came for lunch; our server Clarissa was very attentive to my guest's need for a gluten-free meal, and also cheerfully got the pounding music turned down so we could hear each other talk. If only there was a way to address the noise issue overall, I would be happy to give this place five stars...!

It seemed like they had it made due to beating their top selling plate. The chicken had a rubbery feeling, for sure did not meet the hype. We ordered it and it was served very fast. In the other hand, their "Pesto Cavatappi" was served warmed and you could tell it was just made. The chicken on this dish tasted very good and the texture was very different from the Chicken Parm. I would recommend this dish instead of their number one as it was told to us by the server. We ordered two cappuccinos and their Flourless Chocolate Cake. Both cappuccinos were very milky and not warm enough. The dessert was really good but it also took a while to get it. We were half way done with our cappuccinos. Price - I feel they are priced too high for a chicken dish and pasta. Although it is a good portion it is still chicken and pasta. It was $31 for the chicken parm and $26 for the Cavatappi. The dessert was $12 It was a busy day but they should still keep their standards and serve food with the right temperature. I will give it another change for sure.

We ordered some drinks (no one got alcohol) and some appetizers. We got the Low Carb Yuka Fries and while that is not my bag, they were good. I was pleasantly surprised. We also had the roasted red pepper spread, which everyone enjoyed. Two of us ordered the Ultimate Steak Sandwich. I opted to removed the caramelized onions. The other person let them on. I also removed the garlic herb sauce but replaced it with a chimichurri sauce. That really kicked it up a notch and was good for dipping the fries in. They're fresh cut fries, so they were good on their own, but the chimichurri again kicked it up a notch. We also ordered the chicken bowl, the avocado salad, and the Greek style lamb chops. We all loved our food and were too full for dessert. It's a quaint little place, cozy for intimate conversation or a night out with family and friends. I think the night was made a little more fun when a couple came in and was seated at a counter height table and were making out all night. It was a lot and gratuitous. The table next to them were visibly uncomfortable and that made it all the more enjoyable to witness. Dinner and a show. Who knew?

How did it…read moreturn out, let's find out: Ambiance The Sratchboard kitchen has a bright and welcoming decor. The lighten in the place was warm. And the music seemed similar to a club beat but not obnoxiously loud. Service The service was great. Our server gave us some recommendations and the staff seemed pretty nice. The food itself did not take too long to come out. Also, when there was a mistake with one of the orders, it was taken care of without any issues. Food Fried potatoes This was a recommended side. The potatoes themselves were crispy with a fluffy middle. It came with a spicy mayo type of dipping sauce which tasted good other than the fact that dipping the potatoes in it did not really get that much sauce on them. I would recommend this side dish. French onion grilled cheese The French onion grilled cheese is a very tasty dish. It has the sweetness of the caramelized onion and nice cheese pull. It is a rich dish so eating cause food fatigue. We got it with bacon. It was good but not really necessary. Crispy chicken sandwich This is the chicken sandwich seen on tiktok. The cutlet is thick and it was fried with a light coating. The chicken sandwich was juicy. I think mine might have needed a little more seasoning (my own preference). Overall The scratchboard kitchen is a nice place to go and have a bite to eat. It has a nice array of food and drink options. I would recommend at least trying the food and enjoying the ambiance and service.

We REALLY wanted to be able to add SK to our breakfast option list but left rather underwhelmed. First, the server was VERY sweet, but not very attentive. Our pancakes and egg sandwich took almost a half hour to arrive and she never bothered to check in with us while we were waiting for our food or during our meal for that matter. When the meal did arrive, the pancakes were cold for some reason. We would have sent them back but we were already running late. Along with the pancakes came a tiny metal ramekin of syrup-- about an ounce. Almost seemed like they were rationing the syrup which was odd and not appropriate for the fairly thick stack of pancakes. We asked for more syrup and were given another tiny metal ramekin of it. We were also disappointed with our $5 side of bacon which consisted of two very small pieces- actually one and 3/4 pieces. One other very odd thing was that they do not offer salt and pepper shakers at the tables nor do they have them if you ask. When I asked for salt and pepper, our server brought back another tiny metal ramekin that had loose salt and pepper mixed together in it?? Again, it felt like they were rationing the salt & pepper which is REALLY strange. Because the pancakes were cold it's hard to make a call on how good they were. The breakfast sandwich was pretty good aside from the English Muffin being mostly un-toasted, but the sandwich needed seasoning (glad I had the tiny ramekin of salt & pepper). The "hash brown" was a frozen somewhat oily triangular thing that was a let-down. All in all, not a horrible breakfast, but not a memorable one either. We'll likely come back for the burger, but will pass on future breakfasts.
