We stopped in to Southern Charm for lunch and really enjoyed it. The hostess outside sets the stage for a great experience with her friendly demeanor and easy charm. She's delightful! I ordered the chicken pot pie with green beans and fried okra. The preparation is different from most pot pies because instead of a pie crust topping, two of their deliciously soft, tasty biscuits are nestled in the pie itself. Different in a very good way! Amazing! My husband had the chicken and dumpling special, which he adored. He chose collards and fried corn for his sides and loved both of those as well. Southern charm is a perfectly located restaurant with a cute homey interior. The food was very good although it was on the pricey side. I had the mountain rainbow trout and it was quite good! My partner got a biscuit and gravy dish and liked it a lot as well. She wasn't a fan of the spiced apples however. The sweet potato fries were also great! The waiter was courteous and fast, we were served in a matter of minutes although I will add we got there when it was empty and by the time we left it was packed. Family friendly delicious food cafe located right down in the Blue Ridge downtown area. Before you walked in, you had to give the hostess Carrie your name and party size and then she would call you when the inside opens up. You walk in immediately feel like you entered into someone's warm home. Beautiful paintings, and China displayed along the walls comfortable wooden chairs, lively people ,no Music was playing. That was a little interesting. Would've like to hear some background music. Our server Shania was so sweet!! food came out hot and quick. Loved my fried catfish and sweet potatoes. Delicious food and amazing atmosphere with great staff. Their menu has a variety of southern style dishes. I ordered the Chicken Breast (2) with 2 sides. Second review and same rating! The staff here is so nice and friendly and the food is outstanding. Again, we came here twice in our 2 day trip to Blue Ridge. This time, I tried the Rainbow Trout with 2 sides and the other visit, I got the Vegetable Plate. Also, the Bread Pudding was very good. My parents got the Cheeseburger in one visit and the Chicken Tenders and Shrimp & Grits in the other visit. They loved all of it. My husband got the Fried Chicken and the Country Fried Steak. He said it was very good, but he liked their fried chicken better. It can be a little loud in the dining area when it's busy, but it's not unbearable. Great place and highly recommend! read more

This was a birthday dinner for my wife who requested anything but a chain restaurant. The host was very pleasant to speak to. Once we were sat within 5 minutes of arrival, the service was very attentive. She suggested a couple things on the menu. We went with the fried chicken and meatloaf entrees! After being shown to my table the server was there rather quickly taking my drink order and inquiring if I had any questions of menu items. Yummy comfort food! The biscuits and apple butter were a delicious way to start our meal. We had a party of 4 and arrived shortly after they opened and were seated promptly. The hostess and our waitress were very friendly. The special of the day was chicken and dumplings and they were so good. You could tell the dumplings were made from scratch! The grilled trout was cooked to perfection and all the sides were very tasty. The places filled up quickly and there was a wait by 12 noon. I went to southern charm because I heard it was the place to go in downtown blue ridge and it was the best restaurant I have ever been to.the biscuits with th apple butter that melted in your mouth and then we got the mosserella stick bites that were to die for and then I got the popcorn shrimp with green beans and mashed potatoes which was very good and then the service was so good and everyone That worked there was super nice and friendly and very welcoming.The prices of everything were very cheap and affordable for everyone I have a family if 6 and we all went there for dinner and got full meals with a total of 82 dollars which is very reasonable and mames us want to come back. Unfortunately we don't. Live here and we were just visiting but when we come back we will be sure to go back to southern charm. read more

I came on a rainy Thursday evening around 7PM and the restaurant was mostly empty. It's a charming and cute southern house turned into a restaurant. We were seated right away and our waiter came not too long after. She was super friendly, took our drinks and food orders. As she took our orders, she commented that we were ordering her favorite items from the menu (a very good sign). Biscuits and apple butter came shortly after and they are delectable. I devoured mine in no time. I ordered the smothered chicken with onion mushroom gravy + hash brown casserole + southern green beans. My SIL ordered the fried chicken (all dark meat ofc) + collard greens + corn. We waited a bit for our items but it's understandable since both items involved deep frying the chickens. Found this place thanks to Yelp! I was visiting the area and stumbled upon this restaurant with great reviews and just knew we HAD to go! Located in Downtown Blue Ridge which is the cutest downtown! Parking can be tricky but we were able to find a free spot behind the restaurant. We got there at around noon and my family of 6 was seated in less than 10 mins. Not to mention the cutie seating area we waited in out front! Once inside I was delighted to see it was cute on the inside too! Bright and open and plenty of space for my family. Our waitress was the sweetest and super patient as we got our orders in. I ordered the cheesy ricotta cheese dip which was soooooo good! Not just the cheese dip but the fresh pita chips it came with were amazing too! Seriously, couldn't get enough of the chips we ordered another side of chips while there and another side of chips to go! I could just eat the pita chips all day they were so fresh and delicious! For entrees I got the fried green tomato burger which I was pretty excited about but the patty missed the mark for me. I wish it was seasoned a little bit more. Had it not came with the tomato, cheese, onion and bacon that I added this burger probably would've been sent back. For my side, I ordered collard greens with were so delicious and flavorful we all enjoyed them! One of my girls ordered the cheese burger sliders from the kids menu and she wasn't feeling it either so maybe next time we'll avoid ordering burgers. As a big chicken fan, my husband had the fried chicken platter which he enjoyed very much and my other girls had the deep friend chicken bites from the kids menu which they raved over as well. I'd definitely go back again and get some chicken next time instead of a burger. Delicious homestyle cooked comfort food. Highly recommend anything fried chicken (they have a western seasoning In the batter and it's delicious). The service is good and they can accommodate parties but there may be a wait. It's in a cute old home- no outdoor seating. We had a family of eight that eight here on two different occasions and it is extremely affordable. You will not find a better restaurant in town for the price and quality. read more

But while you are there you might as well get some fried chicken or some shrimp and grits. If you are bringing kids, spend the extra 3 bucks and get them the chicken tender small plate instead of the fake frozen nuggets. They won't be able to finish it, and you will get their leftovers, while will again be a great service to all but your BMI. We don't usually go to restaurants twice in vaca, but we came twice in a week. So yeah... gonna go diet now. read more

We had fired mushrooms appetizer, chicken tender meal, fried catfish po'boy, and 4 veggie plate with plain sweet potato and broccoli, and a salad (to which I added my own seitan). Most of the items , true to Southern cooking, contained butter, milk, or meat of some type, but our server was SUPER helpful and informative with what this vegan girl could get and made sure I was taken care of. It looked and tasted like a frozen meal from a box with one small scoop of mashed potatoes and barely any white gravy. (I guess we are used to smothered chicken fried steak with alllll the gravy). Very disappointing from a southern restaurant. Other people in our party found their food to be just sub-par. It included the cheese grits and 6 tiny shrimp, pot pie and a breakfast platter (brunch menu). The service was excellent and friendly despite the long wait.
