They have other coffees as well. **Fruit is fresh as toppings or as included in the custard specialties. I had the chocolate which Matt described as having a hint of espresso and wow it was amazing and the daily speciality flavor - Peaches & Cream, with baked peaches! My husband, who sadly is unable to consume lactose, had a scoop of peach and raspberry sorbet and was amazed! For once I didn't feel guilty about my lactose-toleration ability! Other notes: they offer prepackaged half pints to go along with whole pies or slices. Give them two days for your pie order - they have some traditional options or a little bit more for a special order, this will be taken to the next family gathering! Location is in the shopping plaza adjacent to Marlow's Tavern therefore parking is free. The space is open and seating is from tables of two to six. I get the same thing every time: poffertjes with vanilla custard and strawberry topping. I may have gotten this once with peaches last summer. You can get all kinds of toppings, like Oreos, waffle cone pieces, M&Ms, and various other cookies and candies. I'm not into these things in my ice cream. No brownies, no chocolate chip cookies, Butterfingers. Just fruit sometimes and maybe a generous dollop of whipped cream, if it's made in-house. It's almost freezing out tonight and the three of us had dinner nearby and I still wanted some frozen custard. The service is warm and the space is modern with beautiful (heavy) wooden chairs. (Unimportant but funky: Coincidentally, we have a light fixture just like the ones they have in the front.) I had to unbutton my jeans for the ride home, but damn, it was worth it. The vanilla frozen custard is silky and decadent. The Dutch-style mini-pancakes are perfectly springy and just the right amount of sweetness to complement your eggy scoop of ice cream. An absolute favorite!!! We love having a gathering place like this in the neighborhood. Obviously right now you can't sit outside and enjoy the ice cream but, they are doing carry out. 2 flavors (chocolate and vanilla) and a specialty flavor that changes daily. They do what they do well. No fluff, just delicious ice cream with your choice of toppings. My personal favorite is the vanilla with the hot Carmel. So fresh and yummy. 5 stars because they were open on black friday when almost every other place was closed. I was babysitting a group of 4 children and myself. We needed sweets to satisfy our cravings but i drove from buckhead to lindbergh to brookhaven and every non chain shop was closed. Wasn't really feelin "southern custard" but with limited options, I settled. I AM SO GLAD I DID! The 2 employees there that day were kind, patient, and accommodating! The shop is dainty and clean. My babies each got their own "kid sundae" with choice of topping and I got a single scoop of the white chocolate with cranberry. It was the flavor of the day. Pretty tasty! The place is in a plaza, with plenty of parking. The decor of the place was nice. I ordered the smallest cup that was two scoops of vanilla, and added peanut butter drizzle and rainbow sprinkles. The total ended up being $6. I heard the guy who was making our ice cream said that I get toppings, which I thought were included in the price; however, he charged $1.75 for the two toppings. I enjoyed my custard and I thought the vanilla was different than others I tried. The peanut butter drizzle made it tasty, but it was way too expensive for only two scoops. I could certainly stand to do a few more laps around Blackburn Park after visiting this new shop in Brookhaven, but no regrets! This place is right next to the new Marlows and across from the Bon glaze. I had no idea that it was there, I honestly haven't seen any promotions for it so I'm not sure exactly how long it's been open? At any rate, there was a good size crowd but the line moved quickly. They have a couple tables outside and they have a garage door store front (it was down tonight) and inside they have about seven more tables that seat two per. Their menu board is pretty simple, tonight the options were chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. I went for the vanilla based on the suggestion of the girl in front of me and I'm so glad I did. I added peanut butter syrup and enjoyed every last bite of that tasty cup! I did eyeball their flavor calendar which was posted by the water machine and it looks like they switch it up every day with something new. Tomorrow was maple waffle... I'd be lying if I said I didn't consider a return trip tomorrow. ;) They do have fun toppings available to spruce up the flavors, so you can build a sundae or you can have them mix it all up like a blizzard. They also offer floats and affogato. I am really excited about trying their poffterjes, which are fluffy Dutch pancakes. It's a cute little spot and the service was great. The menu is nice and simple - the only ice cream flavors are chocolate, vanilla, and one flavor that changes daily. Southern Custard is different...like cool different (maybe pun intended). With an open garage-door storefront, it certainly stands out aesthetically in comparison to the other storefronts. It's very welcoming, and you can feel that burst of cold air when you step in on a hot summer day. Unlike most ice cream shops, they keep it really simple. They only have 3-4 flavors of custard (vanilla, chocolate, and 2 specials) that you can order in a cup/cone or use as a base for a shake, etc. Like most ice cream places, you can get samples of the custard flavors before making a decision. If you're feeling extra that day, they have concretes (basically a McFlurry), floats, and, affogatos (custard in espresso). If you're feeling really extra, try their poffertjes (fresh mini-pancakes topped with custard and toppings). You can also take some custard home in pints. I'm actually not big on going out to ice cream places because I'd rather just buy it at my local Korger/Publix. Then again, this isn't ice cream; this is custard. I wouldn't blame you if that distinction isn't worth the fuss, but I'm also telling you it's worth checking this place out. read more

I have frequented Southern Custard multiple times. It is at a great location within walking distance from Blackburn park and some great restaurants. They always have vanilla, chocolate, and a flavor of the day which you can find out on their calendar. They also have TONS of topping to make different sundaes or milkshakes. I have never had a bad flavor combination ever. The custard is not just sugar you can actually taste the flavor of the custard or the mix-ins. If you have never had custard is it like the most amazing soft serve, it is super creamy but not as hard as ice cream. It is a great treat year-round. They are coming out with some really amazing fall flavors. I had the privilege of trying their sweet potato custard with pecans and caramel and it was unbelievable. Not only are you satisfying your sweet tooth but you are supporting a local business that employees some really amazing people. I posted on next door that I am a first-year Gwinnett county School teacher at a title-1 school and that I was collecting donations of Halloween decorations for our school's trunk or treat. My students had expressed that no teachers ever really participate in the event. Halloween is my favorite holiday and I want to make it special for them. The manager. Eric reached out to me and made a donation of decorations and donation for treats for my students. He was so kind and his generosity went above and beyond. I ordered a medium waffle bowl butter pecan added toppings of pecan and cappuccino (refer back to 1st sentence...of yum x100) smooth fresh melts in your mouth the waffle light and crispy. Some places surprise you, this was one of them and yes for good. We went there soon after the place opened in the morning and so were the only ones in the place. I loved the interiors and specially the fake burning fire at the entrance. The place does not have a very elaborate range of products and hence have been able to focus on quality. The place specializes in frozen custard, ice creams and shakes. I saw something different on their menu and thought of trying it. I tried poffertjes with frozen custard which are puffy pancakes served with frozen custard. The poffertjes were made fresh in front of us and hence were soft and delicious. This was probably one of the best frozen custard I had tasted. Everything worked very well together. For poffertjes one can choose between vanilla and chocolate custard. As a local joint, the employees were all very amicable and made me feel right at home. I will definitely be back! It's also really unique to see that they only offer 3 flavors, and the 3rd being one that changes daily. I drove here thinking they were still serving the mini pancakes, and the guy told me they've stopped due to covid so that was a bummer. If you ignore the 10 miles you have to run, or the 3 hours you have to spend at the gym, or the week you have to fast to burn the fat and calories you will consume at Southern Custard, it's definitely 5 stars. After reading other reviews, I didn't expect any fro-yo or "lighter" ice cream choices. I knew we were going to have a decadent dessert so I was mentally prepared. Although there were several interesting items on the menu, we went with a large order of Poffertjes. We contemplated the different custard flavors and toppings but ultimately chose the "traditional" version of vanilla custard and chocolate syrup. We watched as the server poured the batter into the little grill to make the Poffertjes. And as he turned them over to brown both sides. It's a little time consuming so I'm not sure how slow the line would move if they were busy and everyone ordered Poffertjes. But our short wait was worth it. The hot Poffertjes combined with the ice cold custard tasted like a pie a la mode. Or more like chocolate pancakes a la mode. The custard was very rich, not like the frozen custard you get from a soft serve machine. So go finish your triathlon and head on over to Southern Custard. read more

I'm always blown away how they make flavors like Mint Julep or Tres Leches and it always tastes just like it. If you want to try some great new flavors or stick to the classic of vanilla to chocolate, their custard will keep you coming back! This place is amazing! Not only is the custard delicious, but the service by the staff is A-1. I was really intrigued by the poffergee but more than anything was craving a shake. They unfortunately didn't have an option to get the pofferrgee as a side or a topping for my shake, but the employee that made my shake was kind enough to give me a couple to try and they did not disappoint! They were, light, airy and the perfect little bite. As for my shake, I had the flavor of the day which was cookies and cream with chocolate custard mixed in as well. The shake was good but could have a been a little thicker for my taste-- nonetheless with the exceptional service and varied unique flavors, I will certainly return. Pretty great dessert place to try out if you can! There's plenty of parking available. Some are even 20-min temporary parking spots right outside the store if needed. The inside is fairly small, and there isn't much space to eat inside. There are 4 outdoor tables each with ~4 chairs if you don't want it to go. There are only 3 flavors to choose from (vanilla, chocolate, flavor of the day), but they're all pretty solid. The custard is creamy, not too sugary, not too bland of a flavor. Overall a great chilling dessert experience! I suggest do NOT get the waffle cone because custard melts very fast, and it'll get messy quickly.
