This place is good. I came on. Friday and the flavor of the day was lemon. I never thought I would like the lemon flavor but I got a scoop along with chocolate and it was the bomb! One of the guys was very helpful in explaining to me the choices and provided samples. I will definitely be back. I'm mad because I missed the walnut brownie special! I was expecting amazing texture and flavor based off the reviews. I read the reviews, so I aware that they had limited flavors and toppings. When we first walked in, it was very confusing where to order. There is no sign where to order and people were standing all around. I wasn't sure if they had placed their order until an employee behind the glass asked them what they wanted. I would suggest that they organize it more for people to know how their ordering process works. Boyfriend and I each got a vanilla scope with strawberries and the poffergies. The guy (confection curator) was finishing up another groups order when I walked up. The girl (cashier) rang them up and chit chatted like a seasoned customer service professional. I wanted the Dutch pancakes (think plain puffy pancakes) and a scoop of gelato. Their flavor selections were vanilla, chocolate, and flavor of the day Earl Gray Tea. I went with chocolate and a strawberry topping. It was good. The gelato was creamy, the pancakes were warm and soft and the strawberries were tasty....that was it. Simple. No fancy footwork. Custard is confusing to me. It's kinda like ice cream, and kind of like gelato, but not. I heard about Southern Custard opening a while back and finally tried them out on a whim late one night . They're located in the same shopping center as Bon Glaze. The option of donuts was enticing, but we decided to try something new. The special of the day was Root Beer Float and although I like root beer, the idea of a root beer float custard didn't really interest me. Southern Custard does one flavor of the day, but then makes chocolate and vanilla custard on the regular. What's great though is that they pack up custard into pints, so you could try and buy the pints, but the texture after freezing in a pint isn't the same as the fresh custard. I think the best way to describe the texture of the custard was that it's like a rich soft-serve ice cream so it's more airy than your typical ice cream. Rather than getting regular custard, I got a custard shake which seems to go down quickly like a thick chocolate milk. I'd probably do it again but also want to pick a day to visit Southern Custard when there might be a flavor I like. Drove up to Brookhaven today to try the custard....custard is life! Even with the crazy traffic, I was determined. Thank goodness we went...we had some of the yummiest custard ever! I had the dessert "Poofgies" (sp?) and it was a cross between a pancake and a funnel cake...topped with hot caramel and a scoop of vanilla custard. My wife had the chocolate custard topped with nuts, and was very pleased. We will definitely be back again. These guys and new addition Grace from Colorado rock. They are extremely innovative with the flavor combinations and never fail to amaze with their creativity. Last evening they had a key lime chocolate chip flavor. They've had Guinness and they also serve some great Belgium mini waffle like pastries which go great with your custard. Came in today for the first time- I believe the main owner was working the store- by himself. Super nice guy! I was hoping to get a full on custard concrete experience like I used to with Sheridan's (in Tucker now closed) but there were not any pre-determined menu items except for the daily special. I opted for a vanilla concrete with Reese's and sprinkles. While the custard was typical custard looking I have to say the flavor was lacking extremely. Super bland in taste, thankfully the candy saved it. Hope to come back and try some more flavors soon! Also when trying today's special, peach, I realized there was no trash can near the counter to throw away the spoon given to me.
