Nicely loaded and assembled, more stuff than brisket. The winner here was the ABT, an Atomic Buffalo Turd. Absolutely appalling to look at but what would you expect with that name? A jalapeno pepper stuffed with cream cheese and pulled pork, wrapped in bacon and then smoked over hickory. It looks exactly like the name but it's still delicious. Friendly service and outdoor eating. Get an ABT. You'll thank me. [Review 13757 overall, 1078 of 2020, number 1192 in Virginia.]

When we got here for lunch, there was a line out the door and the smokers out back hard at work told us this was the place to be. We got served pretty quickly and found a table. The place is neat and clean with a decent amount of seating both inside and out. The missus had a brisket sandwich and I got the pulled pork with slaw, pinto beans and mac&cheese for the sides. The servings are HUGE and that smoke ring isn't just for looks. The meat was done perfectly with the smoky flavor and not dried out. I also tried one of their homemade sausages. Absolutely fantastic! Snappy casing with a filling that included creamy cheese hunks and a level of spicy that was just right. We pride ourselves in having high standards when it comes to BBQ, and this joint didn't disappoint! We've been to numerous BBQ joints including the famous award-winning Big Bob Gibsons in Northern Alabama and this place comes in well over that. We visited with the owner (Kelly) and had a great experience. The staff we interfaced with were both friendly and engaging. I would give this place 6 stars if I could. Highly recommended!

Here's the elite version: One look at Mama Jean's handwritten chalkboard menu told me this was a place that lets the food do the talking--and the fried ribs backed it up. The fried-rib special was the undeniable star. Topped with Buffalo sauce, hot honey, Gorgonzola cream sauce, Gorgonzola crumbles and green onion, these ribs were an absolute revelation. They were fried hard--the right way--giving the outside a satisfying bite while the meat remained tender inside. Sweet, spicy, tangy, creamy and savory, it was a bold combination that somehow worked beautifully from every angle. The pulled-pork sandwich refused to be overshadowed. The pork was moist, tender, well-seasoned and piled ridiculously high on a soft bun. This was a serious portion of properly cooked pork--not a sandwich relying on sauce to carry it. Then came the collard greens, which unexpectedly became the star of the sides. I expected them to play backup, but they had enough presence to stand beside the barbecue. The mac and cheese was good, but those collards were the side I kept returning to. Mama Jean's is not a barbecue spot you want to miss if you're anywhere near Roanoke. The setting is casual, the portions are generous and the flavors are unapologetically big. If the fried ribs are written on that chalkboard, don't overthink it--order them before they're gone. Top-notch barbecue

And today, I finally got to try it out for lunch, after making plans to be there at ten in the morning just as they were opening. I'm talking about the new Chicken Wings restaurant locally-owned and operated by Kevin Edwards, Wingstop. Located at the Southwest Plaza Shopping Center on Electric Road (next to Jersey Mike's), this casual counter-serve chain specializing in cooked-to-order wings (classic or boneless) with over 11 iconic flavors, as well as chicken tenders and chicken sandwiches, with sides of their hand-cut, seasoned fries, and other signature sides such as their Cajun Fried Corn and their Buffalo Ranch Fries. From the moment I entered the restaurant I felt the warm southern hospitality from the ladies behind the counter and also from the manager and assistant manager who welcomed me wholeheartedly, while I waited for my order to be freshly prepared. The place was clean and well lit with only around five small tables. Even though most of their orders were To-go, all of their tables seemed to also be always full. The backlit menus high above behind the counter were very well organized and easy to understand. I particularly liked their chart of sauces from Heat (Atomic) to no Heat (Hawaiian), illustrated with a colorful line from red, yellow, to green. I ordered their 5pc Crispy Tender Combo with their Hickory Smoked BBQ flavor sauce, a regular size side of their seasoned fries, and a regular 20oz beverage. Then after hearing of their Cajun Fried Corn, I had to try one also. As I watched into their open kitchen, I was very impressed with the teamwork and positive attitude from all their crew members. The manager did an excellent job keeping everything moving and bringing out the order bags to the Pick-Up counter. The assistant manager, a friendly and dynamic lady with a wonderful personality was also on top of things all the time. I filled my paper cup with ice and Coke from their softdrink machine and placed it at the table in the back to hold my place. They have an electric chart on the side wall of the ordering counter that keeps you informed of the status of your order. When my order was ready, the manager handed it to me in person inside a bag and I took it to my table. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the high-quality of their food. The Chicken Tenders were huge in size, with very tender and moist chicken and covered with the tasty Hickory Smoked BBQ sauce. The fries were just the right thickness, very well seasoned, and served hot, right out of the frier and bowl where they were seasoned. And the corn was amazing. Small pieces of corn on the cob full of flavor. Even the Iced Coke tasted wonderful on this hot and sunny day. In conclusion I highly recommend that you drive down here and make a stkp at this Chicken Wing new restaurant. I can assure you, after you try their food and experience their service, you'll be coming back for more.

Let's just say I like to have my extensive dining options. It should be noted that I enjoy the local sports bar and grills featuring buffalo wings that can give the big chains a run for their money just as much as anyone, but there is nothing wrong with indulging in some guilty pleasure from the big chains from time to time as well. And with that said, it is time to return the focus directly on this new Wingstop location. They opened on Monday, 05/18/2026, and have had lines out the door ever since. This is to be expected whenever a new place first opens in Roanoke, but I suspect the crowds will taper off to a normal flow of customers within a couple of weeks. As a tip during this grand opening time, if you are going for lunch, arrive around 11 AM, which is close to when they first open their doors, to avoid bigger crowds until the new hype dies off. My friend Dom and I did this, and our service ended up being fast and efficient. Even with a decent sized crowd during our early visit, the food came out lightning fast and fresh. The prices were reasonable too for the quality of food we received. I ordered a 6-piece boneless meal, which included perfectly cooked seasoned fries and a fountain drink. I had my wings tossed in their Atomic Sauce, which is their hottest flavor. If you do not like spice, then this sauce is not for you, but it is not nearly as hot as Buffalo Wild Wings' Blazin' Knockout Sauce. I personally find the Atomic Sauce to be zesty and delicious with a spicy kick. My friend Dom ordered the limited time Citrus Mojo Sauce for his chicken, and we both agree they need to keep this sauce on the menu. For those curious about it, it features garlic herb and citrus flavors. I am looking forward to going back to Wingstop soon and trying some of their other sauces on various menu options.

And Brambleton Deli in Roanoke, Virginia, is the perfect example. So today, I decided to have dinner here and try it out. Arriving a little before six, their front parking lot was already full. Luckily the parking lot continues around the side.of their building and into the back where it turns into an even larger parking lot. After parking my car in a safe spot, I walked to the front of the restaurant and entered through the front door after passing by their outdoor dining patio. There was already a long line of customers waiting to be seated. But with patience the friendly hostess got to me and brought me to one of the booths of the place. My friendly server Kelty soon arrived to greet me and take my order. To drink I ordered a Sweet Ice Tea. As an appetizer I wanted to have their Mini Corn Dogs but they were so many for one person that the server suggested I have the Kids Mini Corn Dog as appetizer and I did. For my main course I had their Pork Barbecue Platter, with Pit Cooked Pork, Cole Slaw and Onion Rings as side items. The 6 mini corn dogs were delicious, crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside, and having them made the wait shorter. The BBQ sauce came on the side. While the food was cooking my server came by to check on.me and give me a refill of Sweet Ice Tea. I asked her about where the bar was and she told me on the other side.of the restaurant and that some nights they have live music there. I figured if it was so crowded today on those nights it must really be crowded. By this time the food was ready and brought to my booth. The Pork was fresh and juicy, and after I spread the BBQ sauce over it, it was even better, the Onion Rings and Cole Slaw were also very good. And the Reese's Peanut Butter Pie was outstanding. After I paid the bill, I went for a walk to see the bar and the area where they play live music some nights. On the other side of the restaurant and next to the bar, this other dining area is more elegant and stylist in part for the quality of the furniture and lighting treatment. Can't wait to come again some night with a group of friends to listen to the live music. I definitely recommend this place as somewhere to go and spend some quality time in a relaxed environment, with good food at reasonable prices and to top it off live entertainment.
