My company had a team bonding event at Sipping Plant so I was able to check it out at the newest location in Kennesaw. Before starting, everyone should arrive early to sign a waiver and show ID. The class is for everyone even though you may be with your different groups. Everyone gets to choose whether or not they want to do 1 large or 2 medium or 2 small. I chose 1 large. Once everyone gets their bowl(s), we all sit with our groups for further instructions. Depending on the size of our bowls, we are instructed how to fill gravel and soil. Afterwards, we choose plants. We could choose 1 large and 1 small or 3 small. I chose 3 small. Further instruction is given when we decide on which plants want. Then we're off to making our bowl(s) as creative as we want. Overall, it is at the hour mark. The host gladly would take photos of your group if you want. She continued to give instructions how to take are of our plants. I did like the experience. For being a place for creative oulets, you'd think they'd pick a more creative name than....The Art…read morePlace. But honestly I don't blame them. I think this place has been around since forever, right behind the Mountain View Library. They offer painting, sketching, clay, theatre, and music classes; I tend to find that it's more theatrics than actual drawing classes offered. I've stayed away from acting and music, but they have productions and dinner&shows every season for the public to go to, at $5-$15 per show. The classes are great- but it really depends on your class, really. I've only taken painting, portraiture, and clay, and clay was the worst of them all. Enjoyable? Yes. Would I do it again? No. I don't even remember the instructor's name. My only quip is that for each class, the fees never seem to end. Registration (late or early), actual class fees, baking fees, and oh, the -supplies-! The supplies list never ends, I swear. For pencil portraiture, I thought you bring a pencil and eraser, and a pad. False, it's like 20 different types of pencils, graphite, special erasers left and right, specially bound pads, tissue paper, paper stubs, special ink pens and tips, and oh my god, these things cost a fortune! I just want to draw! Ahem, anyway, the painting guy was ok, but the star of the show is Kip Rogers- after all these years (it's been like 10), I still remember how well he taught his classes and I want to go back, even if this place is about a solid 45 minute drive from where I live now. His class is 95 for first timers and 70 for returners. At that price, it's a freaking steal! (Well, at least for that class....) The Art Place is a special place to me- back when I still drew all over the place, I had been able to be part of some of the shows there, and I appreciated that. You could always walk in and see art from the locals. After all these years, the many of the artists teaching there are still there. Now on to convincing the boyfriend to take these classes with me....

We decided to try this place out first. We paid $80 for a squeegee art for my two daughters. Unfortunately, it looks like some paint was just smudged around. The class was two hours, and I was SHOCKED at how little guidance they received to make proper squeegee art. I think the lady must have had the girls just put a bunch of random paint colors anywhere on the paper and that's why the colors look awfully mixed, and it produced a horrid dark color. Sadly, we won't be doing a birthday party here or recommending this place to anyone.

There is a separate photo room/mini bar. It is tucked away and actually has some good lighting & items that could serve as props while taking pictures or selfies. Some of the negatives are that there is only one small bathroom per gender. I do commend them on clean restrooms. Also, the chairs were metal, hard & high up on bleacher type wooden stands. Otherwise the decor was cool. The rest of this review is about the show & how it played out in the venue. I saw a show called F.E.M. It is a coming of age TRUE story of a black gay man naked Erik Dillard who was adopted, bullied & finally living his best life at age 40 in Atlanta. With that in mind, the props crew was definitely set to handle a lot of tasks. They had giant pictures, chairs, and other furniture that represented Erik's ENTIRE life in 2 1/2 hours. I found the staff overwhelmingly professional. They alone get a 5/5. I just think the seats need cushions & maybe 20+ minutes for the intermission would be great for the one bathroom per gender.

She was able to break down advanced acting techniques in ways that were easy to understand. Her love for acting and for her students really shined through as she addressed each person by name and remembered what they specifically needed to work on. I was blown away by the precision in which she administered critiques, while remaining kind and encouraging. Coaches of this caliber are similar to the ones I've worked with on Broadway sets. I couldn't believe I stumbled upon this gem in a local Marietta studio. Her knowledge transcended the stage as she explained how to apply certain acting techniques to everyday life. She was kind enough to help me with a presentation I needed to deliver at work. I followed her advice, not expecting much, but actually ended up receiving a promotion. I recently took an 8-week "Intro to Drawing" class at Spruill and had a wonderful time! My…read moreinstructor was Thomas Key and I appreciated the way he organized the class. The pace was perfect and I never felt as though we were moving too fast. There were only 4 people in my Sunday afternoon class which allowed plenty of opportunities for him to walk around and help us individually. We also had opportunities to take little snack/bathroom breaks. The building is shared with the library and since that's closed on Sundays, there was usually ample parking. Sometimes there would be a children's performance in the theater near our studio but it was never really disruptive. Although sometimes, there would be less parking spots near the studio entrance on those days. I genuinely enjoyed taking this class at Spruill! I hope to take more classes here in the future and I even told my friends about it. The classes are reasonably priced for the quality of instruction that they offer, and there may be a few need-based scholarships available on their website. I believe there is a donation-based supply closet available to students who are currently enrolled in art classes, but the closet itself is only open during the week. Overall, I think Spruill is a great place hone any craft and I would love to take more classes in the future.
