The food was excellent. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. The food was presented beautifully. i would give the atmosphere and food 4 stars and service two. It was hard to get a drink, food took a long tome yet bartender never came over to explain. More like ignored the situation. when the check came i asked her to put 3 shares on one card and two on another. She said I cant do that I don't know how. I said don't you have a calculator. Stopped in to Southpaw for a late lunch on my mother's birthday. The decor style is very adirondack mixed with some of the remaining decor from when it was an asian bistro. At the time, the place looked busy but still had open table. Staffing wise I noticed they had one bartender and one server on which seemed light for a Saturday. Our server took a little while to get over to us but seemed more like the result of being short staff than anything to do with them. We ordered in stages drinks and apps, then mains once apps were out. I got the smash burger and fries and we tried the hush puppies and wings for apps. The hush puppies were a northern interpretation which was more like a fried polenta cake in shape and taste. I recognize they are all just variations of fried cornmeal but there is something distinct about a hush puppies versus these. The wings were definitely stand out and I would get them again. I was surprised to see the place almost empty when we stopped in for lunch on a beautiful Friday afternoon. Our party of three was promptly greeted and directed to our choice of tables set and ready for customers. We were slow in making our menu selections as we were preoccupied with conversation anticipating the southern departure of the Snowbird in our party. Staff were very patient and understanding. The menu offers a nice variety of choices that extend from pub food to sandwiches and salads, many with a slight twist in preparation. Entrees are apparently offered during dinner hours. My wife ordered the Humus Wrap ($17), identified as a vegan's delight. She did not believe the humus offered much flavor, tasting mostly the onions, sweet potatoes, chickpeas, and peppers. But then she's not a vegan so, while she said the wrap was pleasant, she shouldn't have expected to be delighted. Our Snowbird chose a Steak Gyro ($18) with grilled naan, dressed greens, red onion, cucumber, tomato, roasted garlic aioli, pickled red onion, and fresh herbs. That sounds like a lot, and it was. The snowbird was very pleased with the meal, enjoying the combination of flavors. I wanted to find out how the Pulled Pork Sammy ($17) was going to be served as the online dinner menu offered it as the South Street Smasher. It turns out they take crispy, slow-roasted, local pork shoulder compressed and shaped like a burger and smashed on the flattop to serve on a toasted bun with their house BBQ and coleslaw. The pork was moist and flavorful. Adding the coleslaw and pickle slices to the Sammy gave a nice blend of texture and flavors. A very enjoyable sandwich. We all were severed hand-cut French fries with our meals. As is frequently the case at most restaurants, they were hot and excellent when served, but just OK once they cooled. Unfortunately I thought time would fix things, revisited it again this past week and we both got sandwiches which both took maybe 45 mins for the food to arrive, and when my food arrived my chicken was severely undercooked and had to send the food back. Came in for a beer, stayed for dinner :) I took advantage of their restaurant week menu while I sat at the bar, and I am so glad I did! Beer list is decent and so is the food! Tried the hush puppies and chicken scarpiello from the restaurant week menu and I saved the beignets for later. I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars. I wanted to love southpaw the way I loved craft on 9 when they were in their original spot in south glens falls. I only made it to craft on 9 once after they moved locations and it sadly just wasn't nearly as good. That said, southpaw is a step up, so that's encouraging. I think they opened fairly recently so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and hope they get through growing pains. We shared the hummus platter and enjoyed that. Plenty of of veggies with grilled bread and a nicely presented schmear of hummus on a board. I didn't mind the grilled bread but there was a complaint that it was "kinda burnt". I had the wings for my main and opted for grilled. They were well cooked but the sauces were not as flavorful as I had hoped. I found them somewhat bland. Reviews on the burger were "decent" and the fries were really good (I stole several). Fried chicken review was also "good" but my friend didn't care for the sides that came with the chicken. Friendly service; food took quite a while. It wasn't too busy when we arrived but by the time we left the dining area was more than half full, so it was getting noisy. It's a nice space but there's nothing to absorb the sound. We will give southpaw another shot again down the road. read more

Southpaw Bistro opened recently in Downtown Glens Falls, in the former Craft On 9 space. This bar & restaurant is dog friendly which offers outside patio seating in front offering dog biscuits and water for your pooch. The atmosphere inside is cozy with high top table seating and seating up at the full service bar. Also, the big front windows open on nicer days. The bar offers 12 beers on tap, wine, and cocktails. They offer lunch and dinner menus which are changing during this soft opening period. They offer a selection of starters, wings, handhelds, burgers, and main entrees such as steak, seafood, chicken, pork chop, pasta, ramen, and special items. The pricing is moderate high. I stopped by Southpaw for lunch recently. I took a seat by the open air window anand given menus. I saw they had a Garbage Plate ($22 plus tax) and decided why not. The Garbage Plate arrived piled high with hand cut fries, small breaded chicken tender bites, crisp grilled pork, macaroni salad, green onions, Carolina gold sauce and ranch drizzle. This Garbage Plate was totally different from the original Rochester (Nick Tahou's) garbage plate. The taste was salty for the most part and the macaroni salad seemed like the basic supermarket deli kind. I managed to finish the big plate of food and got the check with Toast QR code which was $23.54 with tax and before tip. Was looking for a quick meal between hockey games, we strolled into Southpaw. We were kindly greeted right away, order taken and the best part.... the food. Could not have made a better choice. Terrible food the was cold, roll was 1/2 frozen, pulled pork was old & cold and smash burger tasted terrible and resulted in stomach issues. Took 10-15 minutes to get 2 draft beers. Stopped here tonight kind of randomly after walking around Glenn's Falls for a bit. We sat in the back room and it was a really cool vibe. Music playing was great. Wait staff were super friendly as well. We had the hummus platter which was great, although we had to ask for more naan. My husband and I enjoyed ourselves at SouthPaw for Valentine's Day. We have only been here one time prior to this visit and we had the hanger steak and the butter chicken. Both were super tasty and it was an easy pick for where we wanted to go on our Valentines dinner. The food and the cocktails were on point as was the service from the staff who were very friendly and it made the experience even more enjoyable. The food was okay not great. Menu is Early Winter which i found to be limited. The wings were cooked excellently but there was a bland sauce dumped on them. Burger was just ok nothing special. Frites are great. Service is excellent. They are trying hard as the music is great, but it's all about the food. Theres better out there so they must improve their food to make it. We have been here 3 different times and all have been a really nice experience! If you are looking for a more lively vibe and not too worried about noise level, I'd sit in the front of the house. If you want a more quiet, relaxed vibe ask to be seated in the back. It's that simple! Last night we had the frites to start! I love the aioli and I order these every time I go. My husband and I went there this weekend. What a wonderful, new hidden gem. The food is amazing! (He's a bit of a foodie so he's picky.). He loved the ramen (a nice hold over from Craft on 9) and the Cavatappi pasta. I loved the hushpuppies, I'm not a huge spice fan so I got the sauce on the side. The managers mentioned that they work with customers who have food allergies. Helpful! The craft cocktails are impressive, from fresh produce to innovative garnishes.
