This spot is pretty good! I've gotten the McPat burger, garlic buffalo flatbread, beef shawarma gyro, magic mushroom pizza and tenders (both grilled and fried). All were pretty tasty. Pizzas are perfectly cooked and so are the tenders! McPat burger was also pretty solid. The lime habanero sauce for the tenders is the absolute best because it's citrusy and spicy at the same time...I made a salad with the tenders and used the lime habanero sauce as salad dressing. Service has always been great and so is the vibe. They also have outdoor seating now that the weathers gotten a bit warmer. Check them out! read more

We recently went to downtown city tavern for a dinner date. Having been there before we knew exactly what we were expecting ... at least we thought we did. The initial impression was the same when we arrived. The place was clean and well put together with a friendly atmosphere. We got our menus and our drinks and took some time to place our orders. We eventually ordered the tavern Mac and cheese and the piggly wiggly burger. We also ordered an extra basket of the tavern fries as those are typically a big hit and very delicious. I got the pretzels for myself. This is where the disappointment began. The Mac and cheese had good taste but it was still very lackluster. We knew to expect loads of cheese; which is great! But what we got was nearly just cheese itself... maybe a handful of noodles. The burger was also a huge disappointment. As having had it before I knew it was pretty good. This time it wasn't . What I got was a greasy unseasoned burger, pulled pork with no flavor and coleslaw that was bland as well. The bun was soggy. The burger was soaking wet. The pretzels were still doughy and not fully cooked. They were very hard and not as good as I had hoped seeing as they were once amazing. The fries were soaked in their oil. They are seasoned, and they are tossed with their seasoning and oil. However these were soggy, nor crispy in the slightest and dripped all over the place. Service was mediocre at best. Plates were pulled without asking if we were finished . Upon returning the server seemed to be somewhat condescending . Had I not brought large bills I would have not left a tip to be quite frank. Overall I do not plan to return here . I am very dissatisfied. I hope this place turns back around but as for me, I do not plan to spend my money here anymore. read more

This is the one place I consistently go to when I want something wet and tasty. Sage has a delightful rotating beer menu and the food is quite good! The Tavern Fries are a must have. I have had and enjoyed the Buffalo Chicken Salad, their wood fired chicken wings, Tavern Meatballs, and the Pork BBQ Mac & Cheese. I always sit at the bar and the staff are quite friendly, sociable, and are attentive to their guests. The atmosphere is an old pub feel which makes you feel right at home. Pulled pork is melt in your mouth and very cheesy Mac n cheese. My wife and I decided to make our own pizza.. cheese fondue (white pizza) pulled pork, smoked mozzarella, spinach, ricotta. Fantastic! Pizza crust a little crisp (oven fired) and everything melted together to make every bite flavorful. If you get a chance to stop in glens falls, NY...hometown USA... its the old Boston candy shoppe. Yelping in the Lake George area helped me find Downtown City Tavern, as it's an an obscure location in Glens Falls that would be difficult to stumble onto otherwise while exploring. It's got an upscale bar vibe with a varied menu with something for everyone, including soups, salads, mac & cheese, burgers/sandwiches, pizzas, gyros, and some bar foods. We ordered the quattro formaggi bianco pizza (white 4-cheese pizza), jerk chicken sandwich (with side house salad), and a smokehouse burger (with fries). The food (4-4.5/5) was all fresh & delicious using quality ingredients. Service was friendly and quick, and I enjoyed reading about how Downtown City Tavern was formerly the location of The Boston Candy Kitchen, and the 1500 pound marble slabs that used to be involved in the candy-making process are part of the decor...love a place with a bit of historical charm behind it. There is plenty of free parking outside the tavern and there is a patio for outdoor dining as well. While I'm not a fan of businesses that pass on credit card fees (they charge 2.87%) to customers, Downtown City Tavern is a great local business I'd recommend to others visiting the area looking for a good and decent quality meal. read more

Mac and cheese can be bland...but their pizzas have a crisp tasty crust and are definitely a better alternative. Other things on their menu are standard pub fare. Place isn't the largest so you may have to wait a bit. Sit at the bar. Best part of bar seats is when Sage is working. When we saw Steve Barnes' writeup on Tablehopping, we hopped in the car and drove to DCT immediately. I am sick and tired of "New American" places with the same old tired menu and it was exciting to see somebody outside of the box. They had me at "Kale Caesar" (har har), a salad made with kale instead of romaine and puffs of fried polenta pinch-hitting for the croutons. It was fantastic. The stem-on fried artichoke hearts in white bean/garlic dipping sauce were fabulous. Wood fired pizza had great smoky crust, though I ordered the mushroom which was an uninteresting topping and I'd do something else next time. Not everything worked. The burger bun was too flimsy to support the innards. And the wings, which were tandoori-cooked instead of fried, were too dry. But I am very willing to forgive DCT the occasional miss because of all their hits. Beer selection was excellent... Ithaca Flower Power on tap. Nothing wrong with that. My kid had the Shamrock milkshake which filled him up for his meal yet was a bit skimpy for $4.95. DCT is small and the tables are close together. If it's a nice day, I'd ask to sit on the patio next time. read more

This was a last minute decision and it was a good one. I didn't realize how new this place was; seems that they opened in February (2013), so they don't quite have lots of time in town yet. I was pleasantly surprised by the nice, clean streamlined decor and the basic - but not so basic - menu. As other reviewers have mentioned, the specialties are wood-fired pizza, wings (not fried but served tandoori style), salads, beer and wine. They also have some unique appetizers and put an interesting spin on some of the basics. I tried one of the stout German beers on tap - it was very good (and strong - as the waitress warned me). We started with an appetizer called "Sweet Pea Guacamole" - served with Saratoga chips on the side. This was surprisingly good...no avocado...so the dip wasn't creamy...but it was light and refreshing (and yes...a bit sweet from the mashed peas). We split 2 pizzas - one with mushrooms and the other with jalapeño, ham and pineapple. I preferred the latter - the jalapeño had a nice kick to it and the pineapple didn't overpower the pizza. The ham was not too salty but added just enough salt to balance everything out. There was only a little bit of sauce but it worked. The mushroom pizza was more bland in comparison...it needed a little something else. Wood fired pizza can be tricky....I was concerned that the sides and bottom would be burnt - but it wasn't. The dough/crust was basic but good...not thin crust but not overly thick. I saw an order of wings fly by (pun intended) and they looked really good. They serve the sauces on the side and the wings are not fried (they're served tandoori-style and have interesting selections of sauces). I'm going to try that next time. The burgers also looked really good - the specialty burgers are TREMENDOUS....not the kind that you can pick up and bite easily. Fork and knife required. Since the pizza was pretty filling, we left over almost an entire pie. I don't complain about leftovers. The service was good, prompt and friendly. I'll be back. read more

This was my go to place for good wood fired pizza. Tonight however has changed all that. As i got home and opened the box I could not believe what I saw. A Tony's frozen pizza looked better. What happens when you cross a Scotch Ale, an India Pale Ale, and an American Brown Ale? You get a Dogfish Indian Brown Ale (7.2% abv). You can get a delicious pint of this right now for $6 at DTCT. I thought I was getting just another typical brown ale when I ordered it, but BOY!, what flavors! Now that I've got that out of the way, my wife ordered a pint of Last Light IPA ($7) from Common Roots, which is just a hop, skip, and a jump across the county line into South Glens Falls. If you haven't visited their tasting room, you should get there too. We've been to DTCT a number of times over at least three years. It's reliably good food and beer that keeps us returning, especially when we are in the area. Looking to try some things that we haven't had here before, we started by sharing a Mediterranean Shakshuka ($9.99) consisting of spiced chickpeas, marinara, ricotta, a fried egg, and toasted tavern bread. After cutting the egg into smaller pieces and mixing the almost creamy and melting ricotta with the chickpeas and sauce, there was a combination of flavors, with the most obvious being cinnamon, that blended very well. My wife ordered the Spaniard Burger ($13.99), unaware that she had ordered the same burger back in 2013. But some things are worth repeating! We're always pleased with the quality of beef in their burgers, and the Spaniard gets topped with a patty of chorizo sausage, a fried egg, roasted red pepper, and a spicy chili aioli. This combination of ingredients can be very messy. Fortunately, there are plenty of paper napkins available on the table. This kind of messy also takes a toll on the bottom of the nice fresh roll - it can get a little soggy. But it is so delicious. As we pulled into the parking lot, there was a wonderful aroma of smoked, bar-b-que meat. This resonated in my brain as I decided to order the Tavern Pulled Pork sandwich ($12.99). Just as messy as my wife's burger, the braised pork was topped with cheddar cheese, pineapple slaw, and BBQ mayo. There was a very nice smoky flavor to the pork. Both dishes came with a choice of salad or tavern fries. We both opted for the fries which were sprinkled with garlic parsley and sea salt. Unfortunately, they were only warm. They had nice texture and would have been so much better if they had been served to us hot. I know that's not a big negative, but it's just enough to find ourselves choosing to not finish them instead of maybe taking half a sandwich home. Service was pleasant, as always. read more

This place is the quintessential home town place that extends out to a fantastic wine menu, craft beer list of over 20 choices from all over the country and unique draft choices sure to please all. This is a MUST TRY if you are in the Lake George area. Their menu has a great mix of traditional choices with a chef inspired twist on many. Yum, yum goodness. Two thumbs up. The people that came in behind us got taken care of immediately. Went there today with my friend and my dog and the woman who helped us was so incredibly friendly. We are our food outside (because of covid-19) and she brought out a dog bowl for my dog and a cookie. She was super friendly and even care out to check on us and make sure we were okay.
