If I could give zero stars, I would. I have never left a place after ordering food and ended up leaving with just paying for drinks because of how badly the service was. We had a party of 13 people to eat before a hockey game. Plenty of time in any restaurant I've been to for food, drinks and check. Or so I thought. The waitress sat 2 of us since we arrived early and did not come back for 15min to ask if we wanted drinks. After 25min of waiting for said drinks, my husbands' cinnamon old fashioned was just straight bourbon - no other flavor that was supposed to be in there. I coukd maybe understand waiting that long if the place was packed but at that point - the restaurant was not. The rest of our party arrived and it took the waitress another 20min to ask for drinks - another 25min go by before said drinks come to the table - some were just soda, not all alcohol. We placed our order and patiently waited for at least the appetizers to come out. Here is where it went to crap fast. An hour and a half later, only some peoples' appetizers came, not all. A couple of us ordered Bavarian pretzels that they stacked on one plate and was told that they usually come individually plated but for some reason, the cook decided to stack them all for multiple people on one plate. Very odd. The nachos and pretzels were inedible. The nachos and pretzels were ice cold and clearly microwaved multiple times bc the nachos could be picked up as one big glued glob that could quite possibly be nailed to a wall as abstract art. We asked the waitress how long it would take for the rest of apps and food to come out and all we got was "idk - everyone came in all at once so we're busy". That's when we decided to pay for our drinks only and bounce. The waitress never came over within the 1 hour and 45min we were there to ask for refills or more drinks nor did we ever see a manager which is also odd. Out of all the tables in the restaurant - we looked and counted - only 2 tables were served food. Everyone else was still waiting and all looked just as frustrated since most were in hockey jerseys and wanted to get to the game on time. 2 hours should be plenty of time for food and drinks but not here. The kicker? When we asked for the check for just our drinks since the apps were clearly inedible and our food was nowhere to be found or even had a time expectancy - the waitress just said "yeah I get it". That shouldn't be the response but okay. Save your time and go elsewhere. Haven't technically eaten here yet but I will never be back to try. Expansive selection of draft, can and bottle beers. Inside dining was large with tables spread with spacing. Service needs improvement - we were short silverware, we had to ask for menus, waitress came and asked how we were doing but walked away before we could respond, when paying the bill she didn't know what credit cards were accepted. Avoid this place at all costs! I've never encountered such an unprofessional establishment in my life. First, they grossly overcharged me, and when I brought it to the owner's attention, his response was laughable at best. He acted like a teenager who couldn't handle basic business operations, throwing the responsibility back at me to tell him what I "should have been charged." Isn't that your job? Completely unacceptable. The music is atrocious--imagine the worst playlist you've ever heard, but somehow worse. And don't even get me started on the outrageous cover charges. For what? Subpar drinks, zero atmosphere, and an owner who clearly doesn't care about his patrons? Hard pass. Do yourself a favor and take your money somewhere it's actually appreciated. We are locals like 3 minutes up the road so we needed a change of scenery and decided to go to sit outside and the downtown social. They have super comfortable seating out front (couches) that we sat on and relaxed with a few beers. We had a few inexpensive apps and enjoyed ourselves with some different scenery. I will never step foot in this establishment again! I was invited to a Christmas party here last Saturday night and the food was actually very good. However, the bartenders were extremely rude and obviously hate their jobs, especially the bartender with the long red beard. The bar was somewhat busy but with at least 3 bartenders working, they could have easily provided better service and not acted so pissed off! At one point after waiting at least 10 minutes the bartender finally served my drinks after eating 3 chicken wings right in front of me. Never again! read more

Come here if you want to be threatened by the police when the bartender inevitably loses your credit card. When the cops arrived, they told me they couldn't figure out why the bartender called them. Told me it wasn't my fault he lost my card and I should go home as it was closing time. Never got my credit card back, the bartender took only half an hour to "lose" it on a very slow night so I'm pretty sure he stole it. Like many reviews of Downtown Social state, the service sucks. In my experience, I may have witnessed an even lower form of service than I thought possible. I suggest not wasting your time or sanity here, even if they're the only place open. read more

Glens Falls strikes again. Formerly the "dinner and a movie" venue located right next door to Davidsons, Downtown Social is another awesome addition to downtown GF. I received a text from friends that were going out to see Mitch Frasier perform...he was actually at Davidsons...but the outside seating at Downtown Social allows patrons to "steal" the neighboring live music situation. Friends were already seated outside when we arrived. The weather was perfect for dining al fresco and there are plenty of tables in the front/side of the restaurant. I'm so glad that I went inside to use the restroom at one point...because it looks fantastic! Clean, vast, modern interior decor. There is a nice sized stage for live performances near the bathrooms. Restaurant was bustling and busy. Our server was awesome; she was super friendly, helpful and just overall cool. Not pretentious and helped give this place a 5 star rating. The food was excellent! Friends ordered the Charcuterie plate....which is not my thing...but I loved the selection of bread and the fig jam. I did taste a few of the meats and they were solid. Several of us ordered the chopped salad with ahi tuna; others had the scallops and a steak dish. Dessert was a shared sampler/platter of 3 different choices: bread pudding, deconstructed cannoli and tiramisu. We had a great time and enjoyed our night here. The only thing I heard someone say re: the food was that the scallops were a bit too salty. I loved my salad and everything about this experience. It's been an extraordinarily stressful week and this was exactly what we needed. Kudos to the Downtown Social owners/operators. I wish them lots of luck and much success! read more

A big fan of sister business downtown city tavern so expectations were high. Service was weak. We placed a drink order and while waiting for them were looking over the menu. The waitress came back to see if we ready to order and to advise us "the bar is slammed so going to be a bit". We asked opinions on a few meals to be given a what most people order response, there did not appear to be any familiarity with the meals. I ordered the French dip that was served with a horseradish sauce and au jus. My dinner was served without the au jus. I asked for it and more water as the water glass was empty and waitress appeared oblivious. The au jus tasted more like tea it was so flavorless. The meat not much more flavorful and the French fries were cold. May not be fair to compare ever French dip I have ever had to the best one I have ever tasted (at the Ithaca Brewing Company.). Overall a bit of a disappointment since I am such a downtown city tavern fan. The one difference between them is Downtown Social takes reservations where as downtown city tavern does not. read more

Visiting the fiancé's parents this weekend, decided to try Downtown Social out since they knew we had never been there, and we like Downtown City Tavern. We ate outside so we were able to enjoy the live music from Davidson's for awhile, and then their music inside. We didn't go inside at all so I can't say anything about that, but the outside seating was pleasant enough on a fine summer evening. Seats were a bit uncomfortable-- they could definitely update. They have a lot of cool choices on the menu, particularly in their apps and bar bites categories. Brisket debris fries, nonna's meatballs, wings sounded especially good. We didn't order any, but noted for next time. The gals ordered the drink Love on the Rocks, while the guys had beers. They have a very nice cocktail list with a lot of options for different tastes. My drink was very good, and definitely girly! I ordered the rotisserie 1/2 chicken with pan jus with two sides of steamed buttery cauliflower and a garden salad, which was composed of argula, red onion, cherry tomato, and vinagrette. Yum! The chicken was very moist and flavorful, worth the little bit of wait our waiter said it would take. A good size as well. The fiancé got their bbq plate, with brisket and pulled pork, and coleslaw and cauliflower. He enjoyed this a lot. The parents ordered the chicken and beef stroganoff, which was highly complimented. We visited downtown social at 1:30 PM on a Sunday afternoon. The sun was shining, so we decided to sit on the patio after our bike ride. As we sat down, the server told us she was no longer taking orders and if we wanted anything we had to order from the bar inside. We found this odd since they did not close until 3 PM that day. After ordering our drinks and sitting back at our table I begin to feed our baby. At that point, the server came outside and tried to close the umbrella on our table. We asked if we could keep it open and she said they were closing soon. (Not for over an hour!) she then began to close the umbrella directly over us and we had to ask her (again!) to stop since we had a baby and the umbrella was keeping her shaded. She rudely responded and walked away. We felt invisible and we will not be returning, which is unfortunate because we live just around the corner and love to come downtown often. read more

this review is on The Bourbon Room, which is part of the downtown social. the bourbon room does not come up when searched. yet the Bourbon Room is owned and part of the Downtown Social. if i could i would give this place 4 stars just in the atmosphere. the bartender was so professional and on point. he wound get 4 stars. the food 1 star. get rid of the plastic salad bowls. love the atmosphere of this bar. it's a hidden gem. you enter through a side door which is sort of behind the social. you walk in and you find how the name fits this small back room bar. the back bar is absolutely beautiful. and their bourbon collection. was very extensive. the place is dark and the music is the most soulful jazz. a great seductive atmosphere. i stopped in to have a nice drink and something to eat. the bartender suggested a white while which was perfect. i ordered a caesar salad and small pizza. read more

My wife and I enjoyed our time with two other friends here on a Saturday night around 6pm. Even though it was very busy, our food and drinks came out promptly. Their menu is limited with choices but, this is why it's done nice. Pizza is good as well as their bbq selections. It can get a bit loud but seating and atmosphere are nice. They have a dj and or live music later around 10 however, a bit late for us old folks lol! We'll definitely return to enjoy their bar and more off the menu. Stopped in here to get a quick bite to eat with my fiancé. we only got a couple of appetizers but they were all excellent. The garlic truffle steak fries had a lot of garlic but were otherwise really good. The wings were delicious, but the best part of the meal was the chicken and waffle; it was absolutely delicious. The pumpkin waffle completed the fried chicken excellently. I would HIGHLY recommend getting the chicken and waffle. I have been here about 5 times, once in the lounge, once in the restaurant, and about 3 times at the bar. I enjoyed the food in the lounge very much though it was expensive with a very small portion. The food in the restaurant was also good and more fairly priced. I normally would've given them several more chances for meals as I did enjoy myself. Service was average, food was worth a stop, and the environment was great. When I have gone for drinks in the bar I have really enjoyed myself. It's a really trendy clean bar to hang out in. The last time I was there at around 11 PM having drinks and dancing with my girlfriends to a DJ. While dancing I look over to see the owners (I was told by a few employees they were the owners) children sitting at the corner of the dance floor watching us with their phones out taking videos/ pictures. Due to that I will never be back late at night. I think it's completely inappropriate to have children in a bar with a DJ at 11 o'clock at night. On top of that they had their phones out taking pictures/ videos which definitely made us uncomfortable for a multitude of reasons. read more

Meh! This place is always busy on the weekend with an age diverse crowd. It's nice to see that they will have a band every weekend too- love live music- but shouldn't you preview the band and expect that they are going to hold your customers or draw in new ones rather than chase them away? Bands in a club like this should be playing danceable rock, not originals and please God, not jam band music! And maybe it's just me but the setup of the place is truly strange- now I know that years ago it was one of those dinner and a movie places that just didn't hit the mark but now it's this 2 level giant room with rarely used banquets that face the bar, not the stage. Seems to me with the sad passing of Sandy's Clam Bar, Downtown Social might actually be able to pick up the slack by moving the stage to the second level and extend the bar level over to the new stage for bands to perform on, get rid of those god awful banquets install a decent PA system and book some actual bands into this joint that they could actually market to the local crowd! (I'm ranting...)Bartenders are trying, but a few of them either don't have a clue or just don't care. The bartenders friends get all of their attention and I'm stuck holding a 20 begging for a Black and Tan that no one knows how to pour. Christ, if you serve Guinness you should A: also be serving Harp or another Irish lager on tap and B: have a Black and Tan spoon to create a drink people consume all over the world except for Glens Falls I guess. Food was very good quality and there is a lot of variety when it comes to the menu and the alcoholic beverages. Only problem we had coming here was our server Dominic. He was not attentive at all... he messed up multiple food orders and when we brought it to his attention he didn't even offer to help and completely avoided us for the entire meal. None of our waters or drinks were refilled and my burger was burnt to a crispy, even though i asked for medium rare. My friend got a pizza without olives and he forgot to remove those... I understand mistakes happen but he also put in 2 veggie calzones which only one was ordered and ruined my burger. Very disappointed in the service but we brought it up to the host and they helped us out greatly. There were tables that were seated after us, getting there food 15-20 minutes before us. The beer selection was good but there was something floating in my husbands glass. When our waitress came back to our table and we showed her there was something floating in the glass she just said ok and walked away & after that I was ready for the check. Our first outing at Downtown Social was wonderful! The ambiance is very nice with a large bar area separate from the dining area. We were seated at a large, u shaped booth and ordered mixed drinks which came to us perfectly done. I actually ordered an Old Man Can of Schlitz feeling nostalgic. Dinner consisted of mussels in white wine and garlic, perfect. My wife had the fish sandwich which we agree we could split for dinner next time. It was lightly breaded and placed on a ciabatta roll with lettuce and house made mayo. excellent! I had Seafood Ciopino which had an array of seafood in arrabiatta sauce. Just enough but not too much and cooked perfectly. Our server, James H, was cordial with a great sense of humor. All of the staff were so friendly, and accommodating with dogs! The food was also really good. Great pizza and four cheese mac and cheese.

The only reason I'm giving them a 2 star is because I never called to complain. I ordered their Greek salad and spent 5 extra dollars to add chicken that looked like tuna heated up in a can. We also ordered the southwest chicken salad, also the same chicken was served. The salads in general were sub par to other places you can order from. I ordered door dash so I realize I spent extra money for their services but had I picked it up it would have been atleast 35 dollars and we literally threw them in the garbage. read more

This place is probably excellent for game day and drinks. Very cool inside and great space for a crowd. We tried it for lunch and a couple times for dinner. The service was great and the food was ok. The Asian dumplings are amazing but the rest of the dishes we tried were average. We will continue to try this spot because we support local business. Ok. So we went back at 8:30 pm on a Friday. A little late for dinner, but after calling ahead we were told they were still serving dinner so we figured we'd give the place another chance. The host at the door didn't offer us a table, but rather was pretty insistent upon stamping our hands. There was no cover fee to get in, so the hand-stamp served only as foreshadowing. There were no pool tables in sight, but a game of "corn hole" (aka "toss across") was occupying the space where there once was a dining area. The remaining hour we sat at the bar and managed to have no more than three people spill their drinks on us. The atmosphere is no longer schizophrenic. A decision has clearly been made. This is a college bar with a Dj, and no college kids. It's apparently mostly local people getting drunk and eating chips with dip at the bar. Only two fights broke out. I appreciate that the management has fully embraced the idea that this place is a bar. With that in mind.... It's only fair to critique it as such: The bartenders were attentive, friendly, appropriate, and great at making drinks. We eat out alot and travel all over. This was the single worst experience we have ever had. Not one person in our party touched their food. It looked like it was sitting in the walk in for days. An ice cream sized scoop of gelatinous, cold chicken nestled in week old greens and a clear film on the tahtziki. Disgusting. It took 45 minutes for a series of cold plated mush to hit the table.
