This is our third time here in about three years so four years. We don't get to slide out often. Southside Café is where I want to go. I always enjoy the fried seafood. Today I had something totally different. I enjoyed the tossed salad with micro greens, shaved, red onion, radishes, and cucumber and topped with Pacific tuna, which was perfectly cooked. I like it rare. It was excellent except for the nerves in the pieces of tuna. I like the fact they make their dressings in house, however the ranch (delicious) is made with mayonnaise, which I believe has either corn syrup or sugar or both and (for health reasons) I can't have either right now. I forgot to ask and I feel lousy today because of eating it. I like the rustic down home feel of Southside Café. Sitting in the comfortable chairs and looking at all that wood it feels like I'm back to a kinder, happier time. read more

My wife looked at the menu briefly and thought I might like it. I ordered the chicken & sausage gumbo for starters. Brief backstory-I HATE okra. Or at least I thought I did. I tore that gumbo UP!!!!! Then, I had 1/2 chicken. AMAZING!!! Nicely seasoned, piping hot, and juicy!!! I also had a taste of the roast beef. Once again, AMAZING! The reason I love Yelp is finding great places to eat while traveling. We stopped at Southside Cafe on the way home from a New Orleans mardi gras trip. I ordered the crawfish balls to start then a burger/fries. The crawfish balls were good. There were four in the basket and they were enough to fill me up. I also tried the eggplant and that was wonderful. Another person ordered the patty melt and commented that was the patty melt she's waited all her life for.... Fabulous local spot in Slidell! HUGE menu! Something for everyone, no doubt. Sometimes it is hard to pick what you will want to eat! I highly recommend their poboys (have seeded poboy bread). They have a very good French onion soup! Fantastic full bar, great selection! We ate regulars here. They are now surcharging for credit cards which is their prerogative but the minimum tip on their table side machine is 25%. That's of the surcharge amount, yes there is a other amount but you have to calculate the dollar amount which I did for the base ticket amount. Rip off. read more

1/6/20 came here thanks to yelp and all the great reviews and raves about this spot. It definitely didn't disappoint, I wasn't sure what to order as so many things looked delicious on the menu. Finally I ordered the Irish channel gumbo and it was soo good! I'm usually not a fan of food that looks like it could be served to prisoners but this was well worth it. I also had the bread pudding and that hit the nail on the head. So tasty, so moist, oohey goowey yumminess. My server was super busy but attentive and I appreciated her suggestions. We were on a trip going through Louisiana, we got the Regular and the seafood gumbo, i liked the regular gumbo. The seafood one tasted like dirty fish water! I've never had gumbo and was super excited to try it for the first time, but my expectations were not met. The Pick up area for picking up your food is in a bad area. You have to stand behind seated customers. Than you have to stand their until you get acknowledge. I purchase a shrimp and oyster po boy. The sandwich tasted horrible the grease was dirty. The sandwich was 8inches long. The oysters was burnt and greasy the shrimp was greasy and tasteless. The cost of this nasty baby Po boy was $19.56. We were on a long RV vacation and were in Pensacola several days following the coastline West back towards Texas. In lieu of NOLA we opted for Slidell. South side was recommended and even though it was a hike for us we went - and were blown away! Awesome menu that was well priced. It was so good we went back while we were there. read more

We stopped on our way home from a Saints game (anniversary trip). The set up is nice. It has a big bar in the middle and plenty of seating. We put our name on the waiting list by way of the yelp app and our table was ready when we arrived. I always try gumbo when it is available and I will say, this was excellent. It left subtle tingle in the back of my throat and the flavor was amazing! We ordered mozzarella sticks and they came with a tasty marinara. These aren't just fried string cheese. They melt in your mouth and are a nice size. 6 came in an order and the two of us had two left to take home to our son. I ordered the hot roast beef poboy with a side of sweet potato fries and my husband had the French dip with potato salad. The hot roast beef was so messy. I enjoyed every last bite, but was happy when it was over lol. It was delicious. My sweet potato fries didn't come when my poboy did, so I got them towards the end of my meal. When they did arrive, they were so soft and melt in your mouth. My husband's French dip was also good. The shredded ribeye was so flavorful and had just a hint of spice. His potato salad also arrived late and he wasn't as impressed with it as he was the rest of the meal. Service was excellent and the meal was great! We will certainly be stopping by next year on our return from the next Saints game ;) read more

I don't normally eat in Slidell but I am glad I did. This place has super fun decor and some military tributed walls with memorabilia. I came here for a late lunch on a Saturday and it was pretty packed for an odd time. I heard that this place is a party central at night as well. I ordered the fried seafood and everything was spectacular from the service to the food. My favorite was the french onion soup. I keep thinking about that broth. I know it is an unusual thing to order at a seafood place, but I was craving it, ordered it and now I am still craving it. That broth. There is plenty of parking outside and it is right near the new Middendorfs. If you had handicapt people with you, there is a ramp on the side of the restaurant as well. read more
