I read some of the reviews here and decided to try it out....WOW....did not disappoint. Bad things first...this place is loud! Ok that's it...I had the fried mushrooms and the black and blue roast beef po-boy. The mushrooms were so good and the po-boy gave me a memory flood back to when I was kid growing up in New Orleans...it was that good. Had a couple cocktails that were also very good. My server was Bobby and he was very attentive without being overbearing or too hovering while we ate. I would most certainly go back here. Huge portions, tasty AF....and good prices. UPDATE: went back. A second time...sat at the bar because Bobby was too busy so we couldn't sit in his section...had the Mama Jamma (I think that's the name)...OSOGOOD! Packed with meat and such good flavor. Had to have those fried mushrooms again...they are simply amazing. Stopped here for lunch based on posted reviews. Service was excellent as well as the food. Had the roast beef poboy and it was great. Since I'm retired Army, enjoyed the military ambiance even though it was primarily Marine specific. Love all my comrades in arms! read more

The food here is exactly why Southside stays packed. I love the steaks, the red beans, all of their salads, but my favorite dish is the blackened chicken sandwich. It's really loud when it's busy, but the atmosphere is energetic and happy. read more

Driving back to TX and really wanted a bowl of gumbo - the few minutes it took to get off the interstate was well worth it. Awesome gumbo, french onion soup, and smoked fish spread. We were staying in Slidell for the night. Looked up on yelp and this place sounded good. Well let me tell you it was great! The seafood gumbo is probably the best I've ever had! Salad was fresh. Whenever I see the French fry poboy on a menu, I know I have stumbled on a true New Orleans restaurant. The menu reminds me of old times. I am picky about my bread pudding but was confident after eating everything else that it would be wonderful and I was right. The boat drink reminds me of something I would have gotten at port of call years ago. Whenever I come to town, I make sure to eat here. I am transported back to happy times from years ago. We went here two times while in town because the food was so good. We had the seafood gumbo, shrimp & oyster po'boy, stuffed mushrooms, and smoked tuna dip appetizer, and the seafood platter for two. The seafood platter was huge, and offered all tge seafood option. Their breading was light and crispy. The seafood gumbo was wonderful, as was the po'boy. Our favorite item, surprisingly, was the smoked tuna dip!! I thought it would taste like tuna salad, and when our friend ordered it I was skeptical....but loved it so much more that the stuffed mushrooms. We brought our out of town family here for dinner the night before our wedding & had a phenomenal experience. There was 11 of us on a Friday night. We used the Yelp Waiting List & were able to get in & seated within minutes of arriving even though the place was packed. Service was amazing, food came out fast & hot.
