It's my first time to visit this town of Slidell so I checked Yelp and saw great reviews. I guess I'm too spoiled for having a good meal especially seafood in Hawaii and in SanDiego So here's my food trip experience here at Southside cafe l, The first one I ordered was recommended by my server, she said the tuna fish grill was very good but when I tried to cut it was very tough! The texture was microwaved fish and when I started eating the fish it's so rubbery!!! So I had to exchange it and get the blackened catfish which is better because I can actually cut it and it's a lot softer that the tuna fish. But there's nothing special about it at all The flavor was just okay. The one that I enjoyed was the spinach dip and their nachos were very good. My curiosity takes me there because of the reviews and their slogan it says " A Slidell Tradition since 1991" so it's 30 Yrs old restaurant already. I guess I need to check other menu :-) Anyway! All the food there is wonderful. The seafood platter is enough for two. The poboys are great. Always clean, quick service. Employees are courteous and knowledgeable. And they support the Military which is a plus for us!! LOVE Them!! read more

It's a good stopping point if you are driving through the state. It's a bit noisy in the main room, but there are off side tables that are quieter. It includes a menu of lots of FRIED foods. And they are descent. I ordered an appetizer of the mushrooms stuffed with crab meat and since I have lived in Baltimore, I know better. They were not very good and I ended up leaving most. This has to be the most popular restaurant in Slidell. It is always packed for lunch and dinner. The food is consistently great and the bartenders are generous with the pours. My favorite time to come here is before a parade during Mardi Gras. The atmosphere is just so fun all of the time but especially during Carnival. While the food and atmosphere are great, the service is definitely hit or miss. I was here recently with a friend who ordered water without lemon and the waitress brought water WITH a lemon wedge. The same visit when the bill came it turned out to be for a different table. It was also pretty hard to get her attention when we needed something. I understand that they're usually busy, but poor service takes away from the experience. Also keep in mind that this restaurant is extremely loud. If I owned a restaurant, I suspect it would be a lot like Southside Café. You see, I am a dude that loves good food, beer and guns. Southside somehow combines all three. The food Southside's menu is traditional American fare. We started with an order of chili cheese fries which were very good. I am normally not a fan of chili on fries, but theirs was subtle enough that it didn't overpower the dish. I could discuss the finer point of cheese fries all day, but I'll move on to my entrée. Thanks to my Yelp buddy Teneha, I went with the rib eye steak sandwich. It was very good. Most places don't offer actual steak on a sandwich unless you're getting a Philly so this version was extra special. Another plus is that they will cook it to order. If you like steak sandwiches, get this sandwich. The beer While not the most expansive list I've ever seen, Southside had a respectable selection of beers which included Guinness. The guns I think he owner is a veteran of the Vietnam War. Tributes to troops were prominently displayed as well as several very cool guns. I spotted what looked like an M1 Garand, M14, M16 and a Thompson. Anytime I can drink beer, eat good food, and stare at guns, it is a good day. Dropped in to watch one of the Wild Card games and felt right at home, as soon as I walked in. It had the feel of the local, hometown pub - lots of people in and out, friendly and efficient staff - lots of energy in the room. Ordered the Reuben - definitely a home run. But the Onion Rings/Strings? Fantastic. They were perfectly cooked and seasoned. It came with a sauce but I thought adding anything to these little wonders would have been an insult. This has to be the most popular/busiest restaurant in Slidell as every time I have been, it's packed. Luckily, I don't think I've ever waited too long for a table. Now the name is a little bit of a misnomer because it's definitely more of a bar and grill than a "cafe". You won't be sitting with a book in a quiet corner while sipping a latte. Southside has a a huge menu! There are15 + apps, 6 soups, 5-6 salads, 20+ po-boys, 20 plus other sammiches and burgers. Hell, 6 different chicken sammiches alone! Plus they have a bunch of other entrees that include pork chops, salmon, chicken, seafood platters and more. I've eaten the burgers, grilled chicken and tuna and all have been really good. Their beer menu is basically a lot of domestics with a few micro-brews but nothing too daring. There's still a big enough of a selection to find something cold to wash down the meal. The only thing bad about Southside (if you consider it bad) is that it is loud. It's a fun place to hangout and have a beer but I don't think I'd bring a first date because you'd never hear them. You can bring your nagging wife though, so you don't have to hear her. read more

We just ordered sandwiches chicken and veal parmigiana. Oh my it was so delicious, both pieces of meat juicy, tasty, and done to perfection. Originally I'm from the S Philly area and the gravy on the meat wasn't Italian like I'm use to, but theirs complimented the sandwich! Plus adding lettuce and tomorrow made it into a super meal. Topping it off with slices of pickles. Too full to eat anymore we are taking our bread pudding to go. We will definitely be coming back! What a great waitress Sophia was. Ok, we are on our way back home and decided to stop for lunch. I found this place and we decided to give it a try. Man, the portions are humongous! You will not leave hungry. We had the wings and the seafood platter. The wings are meaty and not over cooked. The #2 sauce has just the right amount of heat and flavor. The seafood platter has catfish, fried oysters, soft shell crab, hush puppies, fries and shrimp. It is enough for 4 people. They do a great job of frying all these items to perfection. The coleslaw is very good also. It has just the right amount of seasoning and fresh cabbage. Our server Mattie was excellent. She was very polite and eager to serve. Had lunch here today and it was great ! We started off with a cup of chicken & sausage gumbo and it was good, not the best ever in my life but it was good. Then we had the Killa fries which are french fry's smothered in chili, cheddar cheese and topped with jalapeño peppers ( ranch sauce ) for dipping and a side of onion straws came with a remulade sauce. Both sides were really yummy ! Then I had the roast beef poboy fully dressed add American cheese and I had them put the debris brown gravy on the side for dipping. It was DELICIOUS !! Made a stop here on the way to Destin went out of the way based on the reviews and it didn't disappoint. Luckily there was no wait on Sunday night and our party of 4 got in quick. We ordered the cheese sticks, onion straws, shrimp, chicken tenders and fries and all was delicious and they were giving dads a beer for Fathers Day. Ooooo these red beans and rice are delicious! Even better the next morning. The portion would have been enough to feed at least two people. I like this restaurant a lot. I ordered calamari, house salad and a side of Mac n cheese with roast beef debri gravy-which was amazing. That is a secret which could be an entree-you're welcome. My niece got the channel gumbo with seafood gumbo on one side of the bowl and chicken gumbo on the other side with a levy of potato salad which was was very good. Sis got fried seafood and they did a good job with that too. The only thing I didn't like was the calamari which had no seasoning but it may be because there was a mix up with the order.
