Everything on the menu is very good and it's arguably the best value in Slidell and possibly the north shore. My personal favorite is the Pontchartrain pig. The onion rings are as good as Popeye's used to be. read more

You would think in Louisiana the best restaurants would be in New Orleans but I kid you not this here is a hidden gem that more people ought to come try! The gumbo here is amazing! The fried mushrooms is the bomb! And I don't know what they put in this blue berry cobbler but man... it's so good it's to die for! Service here was excellent! We were told of a wait but were seated before the estimated time. Text message notifications were sent when our table was ready. First time here. The place was filled and the food was great. We had the steak and seafood platter. The cocktail & tartar sauce was really great; you can tell that it was made there. Atmosphere lively and casual. Went out of the way on a road trip to try this place mainly for the stuffed artichoke (a rare commodity to see something like this in the south). I however was dissapointed with the Artichoke due to it not being cooked long enough. It was very chewy and not edible. Also ordered the crawfish balls which were decent and the roast beef melt which was also ok. The real winner was the stuffed mushrooms. They were delicious and yuge! The girl working the to go counter was also very friendly so customer service here was a plus. I can appreciate the character and charm of this place... just needs better execution in the kitchen. read more

Have been coming to this place for years. Great food, large portions, reasonably priced. Some of our favorites are the stuffed bell pepper soup on the first Wednesday of each month. The red beans and rice special on Monday, the muffuletta and onion rings. They have a large menu to please everyone! read more

I only gave it 4 stars because I don't normally give out 5 and I couldn't figure out a way to give it 4 and a half. Lots of tasty beers and the food seems to be amazing. I only say "seems to be" because I only had the Rueben. Everything else looks great. But I only actually know that the Rueben was amazing because I ate it. It might be a bit "loud" or whatever. But that's only because it's full of newbies like myself and regulars, being friendly, chatting and getting to know each other. I met a regular, we'll call him "Rick." Awesome guy, had great menu suggestions, we talked each others' ears off and basically he made it fun and comfortable for a lone traveler just looking for a bite and a beer. I love Southside. Home cooked food, fresh salads and home made dressings AND locals go to this place. Always a friendly face. They have a few TVs also for those who are interested in sports and news You never go away hungry from this place. Big portions and great prices. They even have a loyalty program after 10 visits you get a 25$ gift certificate. I highly recommend South Side. read more

Southside Cafe is so much more than a cafe. This local restaurant in Slidell, Louisiana is fantastic! Have breakfast, lunch or dinner at a table or at the bar. I had the Eggs Benedict Ponchartrain w/ a side of cheese grits and it was excellent. I was thirsty so the Big Bloody Mary w/ pickled okra & green beans and plenty of smoked Applewood bacon was to die for. They welcome everyone but it appears this local establishment may be owned by a veteran as I observed the decor. The meals are plentiful and reasonably priced. The staff out front and in the kitchen seem to enjoy working here. Definitely a place to return to on my next visit! read more

Went with a friend who visits this place often all the way from Biloxi, MS. We had a girls trip to New Orleans and stopped for a late lunch. We got there for the 3pm Wednesday special. Everything she said about this places food was spot on. We both had the chicken and sausage gumbo; amazing. I ordered the Big Mo Jamma sandwich and she the Bonfuca French Dip; overstuffed with meat. Both had to take half of our sandwiches home. I would go here again. True New Orleans cuisine. read more
