This is the best local restaurant in town for sure. It gets very busy though. I highly recommend using the app "NoWait" to save your place in line before heading there. The sauce for the onion rings is great. Our favorite menu item is the buffalo chicken sandwich. 1/2 lb of chicken breast! All of their buffalo sauces are great. I ordered the Bonfuca French Dip and it was one of the best sandwiches I've had in a very long time! The provolone and seasoning MAKES that dish! The only negative issue was that both our first choice orders were unavailable (stuffed shrimp and crawfish tails) which was disappointing, but still an awesome place to eat! read more

I used to love this place. The food is always good. I started going there with the guys from work. Loved it. Actually gave gift cards to mom & dad from here. The atmosphere is now hit or miss. The bar aspect is taking over at times. Had a terrible visit due to very rude young cutesie hostess. Followed by insults from 3 drunk couples fresh off a fishing trip. Went for lunch and ended up actually losing my appetite. When we talked to the manager about the hostess, she immediately took up for her. I will not ever return there. This place had the best reviews in the area for authentic local food. We were super excited to check it out and sadly equally disappointed. Mostly fried crap and bread dishes on the menu. Our waiter brought out the appetizers, cold, with the main course. Spilled a drink on our table and it appeared the non of the waiters were trained to prebus tables. This is one of my favorite restaurants in slidell. Went there today Sunday march 20 with some friends who also love this restaurant. Well today we were there for 2 hours. Waitress was new and clearly in need of some help. But that didn't happen the restaurant was study but not overly busy and the 2 hours was not when we got there is is from seating time. drinks took way to long to get to the table. Appetizers took a long time waitress kept saying she would be back in a couple minutes but took longer than that. One of the appetizers came to the table with the dip spilled all over it. She apologized said she would bring another order and never did. There were a lot of complaints in the whole area we sat in. one of the people in our party went to speak with a manager because there was an issue with one of the payments and this manger told our waitress that customer said she was a horrible waitress which in fact was not so. I believe she needed extra help and that was not happening. she was slow and didn't seem very organized but did seem very overwhelmed. This was a birthday celebration for me. I am visiting family. My nephew decided I would enjoy sandwiches from Southside Cafe. He was right. He had a beef sandwich. I can get that in Chicago burbs. I chose a muffuletta. I thought it was expensive on the menu. I was surprised when I opened the package. Good value. Huge sandwich. Delicious too. Bit messy. Napkins needed. Crayfish balls were a treat. Those should be enjoyed at the venue. Fried food should be hot, think French fries away from McDonalds. The sauce with the crayfish was really a treat if you handle 7 of 10 on my hot scale. I would like that sauce with grilled salmon more than my dill sauce. Going to ask Bon Appetit to get the recipe. If they still do that in our digital age. So I was in Slidell for a business trip. A local I was working with recommended the Southside Cafe. I'm glad that if all the places that were recommended I chose this place. I highly recommend if your within an hour of the Southside Cafe it's worth the trip. This was the first time my buddy and I had tried this place, and we were both glad that we found it on Yelp! It has great reviews and it was close so we decided to check it out. The restaurant is military friendly, which is something we always love. Our waitress was new so there were maybe one or two hiccups, but she was a gem regardless. My friend ordered the chicken fried steak and I ordered the two catfish fillets, both entrees with the mashed potatoes and brown gravy. We both agreed that it was the best of each item that we've ever had. The food was prepared perfectly and the flavors were indescribably good. Went here with my sons Monday evening. I was hoping to get the red beans but they were sold out. Ugh! Luckily there food is awesome because I was soooo happy with my Gumbo!!! My son who hates carbs enjoyed the pork chop which he loved ( and he is a picky little eater that one). I saw all the reviews on how good this restaurant is and you have to come and let me just say it's not that good. The whole experience just shocked me. Most reviews said that the service was good and the food was delicious. The service was okay. I ordered a French Onion Soup, Sausage and chicken gumbo, honey island chicken, and blueberry cobbler. None of it was super delicious at all. First off I ordered online and it told me that it would take thirty minutes to make all of the food. I got there five minutes late my fault. The food was poorly packaged the cobbler was spilling out of the container all over the bag. Also everything was ice cold I didn't notice this until I was half way back to the hotel and the cobbler and soup were spilling out of the container. Got back to the hotel and there was no to go silverware in the bag. I ask the lady if there was to go silverware in the bag and she said yes. Also what restaurant doesn't put to go silverware into a to go bag. The list of bad things goes on. The sandwich had way to much mayo on it. It was soggy bread mess just to much. You could badly taste the honey mustard. The onion soup wasn't that good and the crotons were soggy mushy mess in the soup. The cobbler was more like wet blueberry bread. The only good thing was the gumbo. The gumbo was ice cold but there was flavor. The onion rings also had good flavor but again they were ice cold. The flavor of the sandwich was okay once you scraped off the mayo. those were the only okay things. Also the Manager had a bad attitude when I called about the to go silverware and that the food was all cold. He said he couldn't do anything about it with a bad attitude . He didn't even say sorry it was like he couldn't care less. Bad manager service. Just over all bad. Nothing tasted like it was freshly made at all. It seemed in Slidell there were not too many food options, but this one had such an appealing menu. We were seated immediately which was amazing because I was starving. I ordered a refreshing local beer because it was so hot. However, once I ordered my food I was very disappointed. I ordered the shrimp mufelleta. It almost seemed like a sauce was meant to be on it, but actually was not. I ended up just eating the shrimp as if it was popcorn shrimp with my ketchup from the fries. I appreciate that the serving is so large (like the size of my face) and that it is priced so incredibly well, but I barely ate a quarter of it because it was too dry. Aside from that, I did order a side of fries and mac and cheese. The fries were... well, just fries. But the mac and cheese stole the show, everyone was putting their forks into my mac and cheese. It was phenomenal, I just wished that the entree I had could have been at that level. It might have been just that particular meal, because everyone else in my party seemed to be raving about their dishes. Womp womp. We recently ate here while vacationing in Slidell, and I must say I was very impressed. I love the story behind the restaurant as I am a former military wife, and unfortunately now a Gold Star widow. I'm always looking for was to continue to support the extensive military community that supports me. The food was delicious, service was great even with it being packed, and everything came out in a timely manner. Our server was super nice, and though he didn't write down our order (being a chef myself this always makes me nervous), he got it 99% right. He did fix his mistake though, and that's all I really needed him to do. I love the system they have in place for waiting for your table! They text you when it's ready, which made it easy to grab a drink from the bar and relax outside during the wait. If we come back to Slidell, we will probably visit this place again! read more
