My favorite place in Slidell. The food and service are always fantastic . My favorites are the Rueben , the philly and the French dip.

This place is phenomenal. Hands down the best local cuisine in the Slidell area, and lord knows, I've tried it all. The atmosphere is always upbeat and the wait staff is always very friendly, which is a plush. The food, just wow...gumbo, soft shell crab, oysters, shrimp, fish. If you're a seafood lover, you've come to the right place. Oddly enough, the menu is comprised of mostly sandwiches, but you need to flip all the way to the back to get to the good stuff. Tell them Sean sent you, and they'll probably ask, "who the hell is that?" Regardless, go here, you won't be disappointed. read more

This is not a cafe. It is a SANDWICH JOINT, SANDWICH SHOP, or SANDWICH SHOPPE if you want. They had one item on special that was not a sandwich and guess what? THEY WERE OUT OF IT!!! The service was slow and I actually left no tip when I am a twenty percent tipper for basic service. I ordered the french dip and it was bland with bland au jous. As a veteran I appreciate the military motif of the place but please change your name from CAFE to SANDWICH SHOP. read more

Me and my wife came in for the first time. We had the mushroom and artichoke soup. My wife said it the best she ever had. I definitely recommend getting the crawfish balls which are amazing. We shared a roast beef melt and New Orleans muffuletta. Both were very good. Going to try something else next time. The service was really the only bad thing but it was horrible. Just bad. No personality, forgot to get us drink menu, and only came around once to ask if everything was ok which was when we were done eating. I definitely recommend coming here to try it out. read more

We decided to have lunch here based on reviews. They were packed at 2pm on a Thursday. Service was slow when were seated, took a bit to get drinks and place orders. We ordered the fried mushrooms and onions rings. Both were hand battered and delivered hot and delicious. I ordered the ribeye dinner and my husband ordered the bacon cheeseburger. I had the salad with mine but they made it with a spring mix and I didn't care for it so I sent it back and got green beans. My husbands burger came out as ordered, medium, and was juicy and hot. My steak was cooked slightly more rare than I prefer but as most places tend to overcook I was happy to have it. We made use of the 15% off with the yelp app discount, the bill ended up still being $46 so the place is a little pricey but the food was worth it. We would go back. read more

Today I've come with my 2 sisters to celebrate Barbara 's birthday. The food is consistently great and today was extra special because it was just us three girls. At the end Mike, the manager came and sang a beautiful Happy Birthday to Barbara and brought the most delicious hot chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and whipping cream. They ate as I texted. Went here on Friday night during Lent so we expected a heavy crowd for seafood. Wait was not too long and staff was very friendly. Food was very good as it always is. Fried shrimp Poboy was great. My boyfriend surprised me by taking me here for lunch to celebrate my birthday! I've been wanting to try this place for a while too. We got the crawfish balls for our appetizer and it was too spicy for my palette so I only ate one but it had a good flavor (I need to get used to the spiciness down here! lol). Got the seafood platter for our main meal which came with 2 soft-shell crabs, oysters, shrimp, hushpuppies, and catfish! I didn't get to try everything because we got full quickly lol but I did enjoy the soft-shell crab! and I will always enjoy the oysters! My boyfriend enjoyed everything as well but mostly the shrimp. We got two sides as well though which was the chicken and sausage gumbo (super yummy!) and the Mac n cheese, which was really squishy and wasnt impressed wont get that again. Well this was amazing. After a long travel day we really wanted somewhere to relax and have a good meal. It was a little loud but the staff was super friendly and gave great recommendations. Incredible. I rarely give 5 stars. We Stopped for dinner on way to Pops crawfish boil in Mississippi. The catfish was excellent, clean, fresh, light breading, spicy. The Irish gumbo (seafood gumbo and chicken gumbo separated with potato salad) was awesome spicy perfect. Will stop here again when coming thru Slidell. Southside cafe is good if you are looking for a casual dining atmosphere that also has a bar. It honestly feels more like a bar then a restaurant to me based on the number of people that go there just to hangout at the bar rather then eat. The food and service was great. I had the steak special on Thursday night which is a great deal, you get a 8oz steak, salad, and side for under $20. I normally judge the quality of the steak based on if I need steak sauce or not so I was plesantly surprised that this one was so good! They cooked it perfectly and it was full of flavor. I was surprised to find this place. The atmosphere is very friendly and relaxing. Kind of like the tv show from years ago called "Cheers". Family friendly. The food that I tried was good and plentiful. I tried both the seafood gumbo and the poor mans gumbo (chicken and sausage), neither were above standard. I purchased a shrimp poboy and it was standard quality for NOLA. Better than most outside the gulf region. The seafood muffuletta was not really a muffuletta, it was a seafood sandwich. I just wanted shrimp and basically got a shrimp poboy on a round bun. It would be worth checking out further. But for a tourist, I would look further until someone can determine exactly what the draw is to the business. read more
