We felt like the portion sizes were unbalanced considering we are in the deeps south where seafood is plentiful. The service was subpar as well. Great food and service. Came here on a Sunday on the way to our swamp tour. We wanted about 5 minutes even though the place was packed. We orders the seafood gumbo, 1/2 seafood muffuletta, and onion strings. Everything was great and the 1/2 muffuletta could have feed at least 3 people. The prices are also very reasonable. When we went to this restaurant it was okay, until we seen all the white people. We waited to be seated and then the waitress came and got us to be seated. She was trying to put us in the back of the restaurant as if we was slaves. All the white people was in the front and no one could see us in the back, so I told her that she have me messed up. So she put us in the front and that's when they start watching us and then I started giving them a killer's look. We ordered our food and it's was ok but just didn't look right. Then we ordered a seafood dish to go and find out once we gotten back to the room, that it was missing food. We also found out that the soft she'll crab that we had was deep fried with all its intestines, which was nasty. read more

Food is OK. Very busy every time I have been here. My favorite thing to get is the po- boy peacemaker but it is at a whopping price of almost $17. The last time that I went here lI asked them if they could give me a half sandwich but my waitress rudely said no. Definitely not the best restaurant in the New Orleans area but it will fill you up. read more

Food was excellent, the ribeye especially. Tender and flavorful. The French dip was every bit as good as it looked. However the oyster shrimp po boy was not as meaty as advertised. Service was slow, servers were overwhelmed. Server came by our table three times without offering to refill our glasses. The food is really good, however the service is in ethnical and blatantly apparent. It truly hurts me to rank them so low but that's the level of service I have received on several visits. If you are lucky enough to get Brooke (spelling) then you may have a great experience if not be prepared to wait and be forgotten about. The customer neglect seems to be systemic to one particular demographic and it's sad to know that this culture and mind frame of thinking still exist. I've witnessed other ethnic groups come in and be treated as if this was a one "culture" only restaurant. I'm not sure if the manager knows this or they are subconsciously blind to the fact or have mandated this is the way it is but it feels so unwelcome when you eat in the restaurant. I wish the service matched the food but sadly it does not. If you go and you are of any other ethnic descent, ask for Brooke or just be safe and get it to go. I do hope that some one from Southside sees this and truly assess, is it them or maybe they just don't care! Again if you want to dine in ask for Brooke if she is not there be your own judge. read more

Good food, fun atmosphere, but first and last time visitors. We were overcharged when we received the bill. I asked the waitress and she said their prices have increased but the new menus haven't been printed yet. We order at the price on the current menu but are charged a higher price. Huh? For example, the happy hour beers are listed at $2.00, but we were charged $2.50. She did refund the difference when I asked about it, but I think I was overcharged on other items. My next stop is the state attorney general's office. What a ripoff. Be careful!! read more

This is my go-to place in Slidell when I don't feel like cooking, but cannot decide on where to go eat out. The food and drinks are pretty pretty reasonably priced, and the atmosphere is amicable and patriotic, full of USMC memorabilia and some USN/USA/USAF items as well (I'm active duty military, so it's great to see this kind of stuff). My recommended dishes here are the Fried Seafood Basket, the Classic Muffelatta, and the Big Mo Jamma Po-Boy sandwich. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the Slidell area. read more

They have some excellent specials like their spaghetti special on Tuesdays and their steak special on Thursdays and Saturdays. This is not the spot for a romantic evening OR if you are in need of a business conversation during peak hours. It can be noisy at times. Great place to watch the game or casual evening out. This is a nice little tucked in eatery with a military theme to it. Extremely open space and plenty of seats at the wrap around wooden bar. Brandi was our server and she couldn't be any better! She told us about the specials for the day which was chicken and dumplings served with greens, and the soup was a black bean soup. I ordered the sirloin burger with sautéed mushroom, comes with lettuce, tomato and mayo. I can't even tell you how delicious this was!! My friend ordered the buffalo wings and they were just as good. Perfectly done with just the right amount of heat. As a appetizer to accompany my burger and wings we ordered the onion rings. Brandi gave us the option of thin or thick cut- she suggested the thin and that's what we went with. I couldn't be more pleased. They were individually tossed with fresh seasoned battered- not something that's been sitting for days and watered down. They were fried to perfection and served with a side of sauce that accompanied the rings to a match! I can't say enough about this place and I would definitely go again; recommend it for all! read more

Everything we got was delicious. I had the ribeye philly sandwich and it was sooo good. My husband got the muffuletta and said it was the best he had ever had. My parents got the seafood basket, all delicious. We also got the onion rings for an appetizer and they were excellent, great seasoning on them. I barely saw our waitress even though it was a weekday afternoon, the food was bland and I eat very plain food and get the same 2 dishes everywhere so if I'm saying it wasn't very good and didn't have much flavor that means something. Slidel, LA. Was staying near the restaurant while on a visit to NASA Stennis. The hotel recommended this place. From the outside the place was not inviting but once inside, it turned out to be quite pleasant. Sports bar with TV and plenty of tables. Ordered just the crayfish appetizer. It was delicious and the server was very friendly. Definitely a place to return to when in the area. read more

It's hard to judge a restaurant after only one visit, but I'm not sure when I will ever be back here. My one time experience was really more like 2 stars, but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and give them 3. When I walked in, I found that I really liked the atmosphere and the size of the restaurant. After we were seated, the cook was going around to each table to show everyone an example of the special of the day. It looked so good! I'm not normally someone to order the special of the day due to it normally being a large amount of food for lunch and it's usually on the more pricey side. I believe it was Lent though and nothing else on the menu was popping out to me, so I went with the special. It was a shrimp pasta, and I believe an eggplant parmesan. I was really excited for the meal to come out, but when it did I was slightly disappointed. The eggplant parmesan was pretty good but the shrimp pasta just missed the mark. As workers for St Tammany Parish School System, we receive what is called a STAR card. It gives us little discounts at restaurants/stores in the parish. I don't live in the same parish that I work, so I don't get to use it much. One of my coworkers looked up the STAR card list of restaurants and saw that for Southside it said "15% off STAR Cardholder's total bill, excluding alcoholic beverages. Card must be presented at time of payment." So my three coworkers and I excitedly showed the waiter our cards and off he went to get our separate checks. He put them down without saying a word, and I noticed that the 15% discount was taken off of all of my friend's checks but not mine (mine was the most expensive regardless). When he came back, I told him that he had forgotten to take my discount off. He told me that he couldn't because I had ordered a special. First off, there was nothing special about "the special". It may have been a dollar cheaper than it is on a regular day which still makes my bill more than it would be had I been able to use the 15% off on the regular price. Second, it doesn't have stipulations for "specials" on the STAR card list, it just mentions that it excludes alcohol. Third, why didn't he tell me that when I showed him my card or at least when he brought the check to me? So I ended up pulling out my Yelp app to check in and, lo in behold, you get a discount for checking in. I showed the waiter my phone which he took with him and then came back with a discounted check. A lot of work for a small discount, but I was happy to save those two or so dollars ;) read more

Service was absolutely terrible. The server was quite rude and not easy to work with. The amount of seafood on the poboys was slim to none.

I've lived in Slidell my entire life and I've been to Southside Cafe on many occasions. I've never had a complaint about the food here, it's very delicious. The service isn't bad either. I've been to Southside more than a few times and its always been consistently great. I did notice, however, the above average population of older, bearded fellows. I am aware of the weekly 'bike night'. But the bikers are still unnerving. As I sit in the center of the restaurant with my family at a large round table, I notice the owners of the establishment are very openly opinionated about certain issues. But that's not important... during my latest visit, I took a beat and walked to the restroom for a few. As I stationed myself at the first toilet, another (large, bearded, leather-clad) fellow entered and started eyeing me up and down (my short and curlies included). Needless to say, I promptly left as I was very put off. But this doesn't not reflect on the restaurant. Just on its patrons. read more
