I am writing this review to publicly thank lovely Kelly for taking me on as a client on this past Christmas Eve. My former stylist is moving out of the country and handed me off to his colleague, who canceled my appointment two days before I was supposed to go in. I was with my former stylist for 18 years, which, now that I look at my hair and how beautiful it seems, was way too long to stay with him. I found this salon on Yelp by reaching out using their Project tool. The salon responded quickly and offered me time slots to come in over the holidays. The lady who responded to my requests was very professional and was fantastic on follow-up! Long story short, my hair was a mess and at least four different colors. Kelly did an excellent job making my hair look so beautiful with the color she applied. My hair looks 100 percent better, and it matches my skin tone better than it did before. I had a hard time getting a blow out appointment; but it was arranged two days later. Blow out was same as if you go to a student. Not impressed. What was very disappointing was I was quoted $50, the techichan after I was done then told me $65 (25% mark up) which I told her I was quoted $50 her reply was her prices are different which again not told to me prior. And she didn't have change for me so had to pay a $15 tip. I feel bait and switched. read more

This salon is adorable! It chic, and all the girls in the salon are like a family! From the moment you get there, they make you feel right at home! Keara is my go-to girl, and has been for going on 8 years. She made the move to Southside Salon November 2018, and I of course followed! There is no one else I trust with my hair more than her. She has seen my hair at its very worst as I made the break from my box color, and 400* flatiron days- and has taken it to it's very best! This was my first time visiting, as I followed Jen Smith from a different salon. She has been cutting my hair phenomenally for a few years now and always knows exactly what I need. She also does color and extensions... She is super flexible with time and making an appointment with her is always easy. The salon is owned by a Southside Chicago native, like myself! Mae is wonderful, five stars isn't enough for her. She talks to you like you've known each other for years! I absolutely loved her. She really helped me out. I had a bad hair cut and some severe processing damage but she was able to clean it up and gave me plenty of tips to improve my hair to prevent further damage. My hair actually looks healthy despite the fact it was breaking off hours before she worked her magic. Bonus: she starts every haircut with a shoulder neck massage which really makes you relaxed and comfortable. read more

Salon is lovely and staff are nice enough, but I left most recently with a truly heinous haircut. I have seen two different stylists here in the last year, and they do not seem particularly good at the actual cutting of hair. It's clear they prioritize color and extensions over the basics - I've had my bangs cut dozens of times and this is by far the worst they've ever looked. Again, nice enough people, but I legitimately had to sedate myself when I looked in the mirror after my appointment. read more

Southside salon is the best salon I've ever been to hands down. When we lived in San Diego, I was blessed to have Megan do my hair for 3 years and it was the best 3 years of hair I'll ever have! I miss her dearly! The other big thing I love about the salon itself is that it's so welcoming and calm there! Most salons have an overwhelming amount of stylist and noise which makes me really anxious but I never felt that way at Southside. All of the stylist there are truly a family! They all do amazing quality hair and I've sent many friends/strangers there to get there hair done! Can not recommend Southside salon enough! read more

I'm so grateful to have Mae at Southside Salon! She is very reliable and even though I see her constantly, even in-between haircuts for clean-ups, I always feel like a special client. She will give me an incredible neck massage or a a glass of wine depending on how I'm feeling that day; she's very intuitive.
