Worst airline behind frontier.. the customer service is absolutely awful! Now they have AI running the flights which by the way delayed everyone. They put us on the wrong flight and had to wait for bags for 2 hours since they put it on a different flight. Now they are saying it our fault... poor management, horrendous customer service, and the ladies who work front desk are useless and very rude! Never flying again with southwest. Edit: it gets worse, they made us wait for our bags just to tell us they don't know when they will arrive so we decided to go check in our hotel (which is 35 min away from the airport) after waiting 2-3 hours and they won't deliver the bag to our hotel even though they were completely at fault. NOW you pay $75 on top of your $839 ticket just to have an assigned seat near the front, instead of just paying for a boarding group, BUT you have walk to the back of the plane and back (2X) to store your bags!!! I have used SW since the early 1980's. Not the same airline. I am a rapid rewards customer and I have a SW VISA credit card. I recently booked a flight with the new boarding proceeder and I paid for an assigned seat and was assigned a group 8 boarding priority. Clearly this airline is only interested in maximizing profits and screwing loyal customers. I strongly urge you to explore other options for your flight plans. I will gladly pay more for an experience that appreciates my business. Notice how often the captain orders everyone in their seats so beverage service is not available. Staff was very helpful checking in though the check in line is an unorganized mess but once you get through all that and get to your gate it's smooth. Quick boarding process too. The flight to Nashville and then to Tampa was smooth and the Flight Attendants were knowledgeable and quite funny. With the new seating assignments (I use "assignments" because I no longer get to choose an aisle seat when I've made a late flight change) I have flown in a middle seat two times in the last 2 weeks. I've been "Group 2" boarding several times and I have had to, and I've watched others who had to, walk several aisles back to store carry ons which is not only inconvenient (and which causes a chain reaction) at boarding, it is also VERY inconvenient when disembarking. Overall, I feel my status is now inconsequential and that Southwest is just like every other airline out there. I've already flown with American (which is better than SW in seating) and will be looking at other options as well. For those who have been loyal to this airline BECAUSE of the former business model, this company, this model, and this system are all now very disappointing. read more

My mom just arrived at the airport with such a special story about a sweet flight attendant who went way above and beyond. There was a little boy, who was flying on his own, and he was so upset before the flight took off. He told the flight attendant that he didn't get to kiss his mom goodbye. Well, the flight attendant calmly and so sweetly assured him that she would get his mom. They paged her, let her come on board, and that's when it got even more special. The fight attendant had the mom kiss each of the boy's hands, saying, "This is the one where she kissed you goodbye, and this one is the one you hold on to until you get back." As a mom, myself, it brought tears to my eyes to picture that, and I think it was wonderful. My mom flew on three different airlines over the Christmas holidays, and she said that the people with Southwest were just so much more special and nice. read more

REASONS TO GIVE UP ON THE "NEW" Southwest Airlines!! Flight 3227 out of Phoenix 1/23/26 Rude gate attendant, (Melissa) during mid boarding between A and B groups, told the active military gentleman that his wife and child could not board with him. In addition, she told a 14 year old boy (traveling alone) he couldn't board with family boarding. (after being so rude as to say: "Are you Under 6?!?!") He responded: that the woman at the desk told him to board with family boarding as an unaccompanied minor. To which she replied: "I'm the one running this flight", so you can board with your boarding number. SURE, the protocol may be (I don't know) that unaccompanied minors (OVER 6) don't have family boarding, but the poor 14 y.o. didn't know what to do when treated with zero compassion, after being told by another SWA employee when to board. AND... Although protocol may be that ACTIVE MILITARY can't board with family, but (when I asked the military gentleman) he said it's the 1st time that's ever happened to him. Sure maybe don't let a military person board 10 of their buddies, but a wife and child?!? To me, this all seems to fit nicely into the NEW SWA structure of nickel and dime customers for everything. Quality (in my experience) has diminished drastically since the "new Southwest Airlines" has taken hold. My personal experience on boarding this flight was not bad, but a bit disappointing that the attendant kept yelling at people to find a seat and sit down. "The middle seats back here are no different than the middle seats up there, so find one and sit down." Guess it's her 1st day? She's not aware that people have luggage, and all the bins up front are full and closed. (Especially since it costs a fortune to check your bags now.) American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Etc, also say: "We know you have a choice when you fly, and we appreciate you choosing us today." read more

On Monday, June 17th, I was on Southwest Airlines flight WN 1823, departing from Phoenix and scheduled to arrive in San Francisco at 10:55 PM. While seated, I witnessed an unsettling incident involving a flight attendant named Brian. The commotion began behind me, prompting me to turn around and listen. Brian was apparently kicking a guest's seat. When the guest asked him to stop, Brian denied the behavior, became argumentative, and defended himself by saying, "This is my job; I'm working." His response was baffling and seemed irrelevant to the situation. His unprofessional, rude, and obnoxious demeanor escalated further when he started yelling at the guest's husband, demanding that he sit down and wait to retrieve his headphones from the overhead compartment, despite the fact that the plane hadn't even departed and passengers were still boarding. Brian's reaction to the guest's complaint seemed excessively harsh. He stormed off to the cockpit, and shortly after, the guest and her husband were temporarily removed from the plane, only to be allowed back on later. The entire episode was shocking and demonstrated a severe lack of professionalism and courtesy on Brian's part. read more

Southwest Airlines has devolved. We waited 3 hours for our flight that was delayed. Once the plane got to Phoenix International, we waited another hour because the flight crew goobered their alignment to the gangway and as a result the gangway broke. When we were finally able to board the plane, the stewardess refused to allow my husband and elderly mother in law to move up to the row I was in. Though I was only one row ahead I was in the new "special" seats. 15 of those remained open for the flight. It wasn't enough that we were courteous and gracious for all the delays. The stewardess was rigid and a gatekeeper and refused to make an exception. Her name is Viri. I hope you do not get her on a flight from Phoenix to Ontario California. Update, we landed and two passengers sitting across from me were supposed to catch a connecting international flight. They asked this same stewardess, Viri, for help bc they had checked baggage and needed to have it transferred to the international terminal. They were clearly at risk of missing their flight altogether. Viri informed them that she couldn't help them because they only help if it is Southwest to Southwest flights. She offered NO assistance to these two, clearly anxious young travelers. Shame on you Southwest for such terrible customer service. And shame on you Viri for not even trying to support these two travelers in any way. read more

This review is only my opinion. SWA has always made changes for the worse, in the past. However, they have done so gradually and always staying ahead of other airlines. Now, SWA is making so many changes at once or frequently that they are no longer a better airline than most. And these are no minor changes. They adversely affect the casual, frequent loyal, and business customers. The current leadership (If you can call them that) is flying the airline straight into the ground. The company founder, Herb Kelleher, would be so ashamed and outraged at the direction they are taking his once outstanding airline. What a shame to see this airline being destroyed. This is a golden opportunity for other airlines to poach disenchanted SWA customers. I'll be looking for other wings to fly with. read more

I would give less than one star if I could. I am very disappointed that Southwest Airlines doesn't recognize veterans for early boarding. When my husband asked about it, he was told that "veterans don't count", only active military members. Not only is my husband and a veteran, but there was an elderly Vietnam Veteran standing in the boarding line. I have never experienced such disrespect for our veterans. Flying grayhound never ceases to amaze me with their cattle crowded small airplanes and rapidly changing schedules and cancellations. What do you expect? They're known as having the most antiquated computer system of most airlines from the news reports earlier this year. God only knows how old their B737-700's are. These pieces of garbage cancelled my 1:50pm PHX-SAN and rebooked me on the 3:50pm. No big deal you say? Nope. I was 3 miles from Enterprise rental car dropoff at 1130am when I got the dreaded text from SWA. The car was due in by 12pm. Let's just say SCREWED. Flying to Salt Lake City via Phoenix so far no issues. Southwest has lost our luggages once and we experienced multiple delays in 2022. This said, over the years I found Southwest to be a great airline that typically goes out of its way to help. The new CEO is the CFO type all about numbers no knowledge of airline operations. This is the reason why we had so many issues with ground operations. This is highly unusual for Southwest so hopefully they will iron out their issues. Overall this is a great airline that needs to refocus their strategy on their operations. read more

Love the A list preferred boarding. Two checked bags and twice carry on items if you're into way over packing. We enjoy the generous companion pass benefit. Free snacks and beverages are nice as well. Almost forgot the free inflight movies and live television. Also, the free inflight texting.
