    quesadillas and a salad
    Carol M.

This was the first time my husband and I have been to this cute cafe. You felt like you were in someone's kitchen it was very cozy First of all I'm not a person that eats Mexican food however my husband loves it. He had the taco burrito combo with rice and beans The portion was generous and he said it was very good. I had my usual quesadilla cheese and chicken. Lots of cheese and chicken the Guacamole was very good We were the first ones in the cafe but within a half and hour it started to fill up If you like Mexican I would recommend giving it a try

We had a truly relaxing and enjoyable time at Southwest Cafe. The decor is charming..very festive. There are lights and pretty paintings for you to admire. The food we tried was delicious! I loved my cornbread and my main, and ordered a dessert to take home. I also had a mocktail, which was fun. Service was wonderful. Our waitress could not have been nicer. She did a great job. I will definitely return!

    Chopped salad with shrimp
    Beth C.

I had lunch at Southwest Cafe for the first time in quite awhile. I ordered the Chopped Salad and added shrimp, and let me tell you, the shrimp was the absolute star. Don't get me wrong. The salad itself was delicious, and I would gladly eat it with a different protein or no protein at all. But someone in that kitchen really knows how to cook shrimp to perfection. They were cooked to that exact point of being juicy and tender and not a second over. I plan to try more shrimp dishes there in the future!

    Lobster tamale

Some friends invited me to join them at this place for a beer and some special appetizers - and that's why they're my friends as this place rendered a five star experience for food, service, and ambiance. Because of the incomplete and short range in this first experience, the possibility that the great company biased my experience upward, and my policy of conservative scoring in such circumstance I well score at 4 stars and just rave about the place. The only downside is they have a rather limited selection of draft beers which is a small point since you should be drinking Tequila Margaritas. All else was upside. Your visit begins with deliciously light nacho chips with perfectly spiced salsa. All of the appetizers we ordered were delicious. I was beguiled by the sautéed chilies I could have continued eating them until I got sick. There was a interesting salty vinegary flavoring to accompany their own natural goodness. The house chopped salad was so light and delicious. And the lobster tamale was the heavyweight flavorful you would hope it to be. We sat at the bar. It is a tiny place with a nice ambiance and cozy which I will rate as a positive since we all got a seat. The service was great and staff were amusing and full of personality. I will be back as soon as I can for a full dinner and fully expect it will earn my coveted 5 Star rating

My early visits were bad enough that I left a review, later took it down to give them a chance, then reposted when things didn't improve. This time, one of the owners spotted me right away and, with a sarcastic jab, asked if I was "going to put up another review." Moments later, I watched their machine fail to build pressure - espresso poured instantly as thin, bitter liquid with an off smell. It wasn't just watery; it was undrinkable. When I pointed it out, she admitted it was "being serviced next week." As she walked to the register to refund my money, I overheard her tell her co-owner that I should never come in again. They did give me my money back, but only after knowingly serving something that shouldn't have left the bar. I don't expect world-class coffee - just honesty and competence. If the machine is broken, tell customers. Instead, Queen B chose to serve bad coffee with attitude.

It has none of that 500-year old cigarette fumes have been seeping into the woodwork-type that you may find in Paris. Tazza Cafe is brilliant and squeaky clean, though not bright inside. Tables are for no more than 2 people (max!). But there are a few tables outside along Main Street and you might be able to snag an extra chair for a trio business meeting, or so. As has been noted, Tazza Cafe has lots of delectable sweets, baked goods, croissants, sandwiches, paninis, cookies, stuffed items, salads and Italian noisette biscotti to dunk in that Java! All the items are neatly (and I mean in rows :) ) displayed behind luminous glass. The items are not marked by name and price, which is a bit of a stumper for normal customers (I can tell by experience) - but in my book it's okay if they rotate items periodically or change their places depending on what is selling that week. Two gals were running the bar-high railed table: one was nocking out the orders and payments, the other was running the espresso machine. My order was a double Espresso and a sweet Linzer Tart (I always get them since my Grandmother used to spoil me with them). Although my espresso at Tazza Cafe only very barely reached a HALF (tiny) cup - it was strong. It was pungent. It had almost a kind of plum and barky flavor. It tasted thick & good. The coffee station however was a mismatch of space for local papers and news taking up the space for cream and milk and syrups (which was oddly missing). The interior fits the town of Ridgefield. Upper-scale. Suave. Lots of mirrors and glass and black surfaces. This is no riff-raff shop like out in Cali! At first I thought it may be a *chicks-preferred* type of puppy-pink peony-kale & baby food smoothie-type coffee shop, but NO there were groups of dudes languishing in chairs with cigarettes and lattes taking a break. Arrived at 9am and there were 8-9 customers. One thing: that entrance door is tough. Weak armed elderly customers with not much strength had trouble yanking it open from outside. Me, I had trouble getting out with a cup in one hand and a bag in the other. Hey proprietor: Oil the door or lower the jam! That said: Tazza Cafe serves il caffe perfetto e un po' forte in this chef's review! Tazza Cafe's top notch. Review: 5+

The article references the Savoy Hotel, Danny Meyer's hospitality group, "the pursuit of excellence," and repeated commitments to quality and consistency. So I thought perhaps, at long last, the espresso situation had been resolved. Reader, it had not. I ordered a Cortado to stay. "Would you like that in a mug for here or a paper cup?" An encouraging start. I then positioned myself beside the espresso machine like a wildlife documentarian returning to observe a rare but persistent behavioral phenomenon. The barista dosed the portafilter, then tamped the coffee while holding the portafilter in midair, applying what appeared to be approximately the amount of pressure required to test whether an avocado is ripe. He locked it into the machine and pressed start. Brown liquid immediately exploded from the spouts with absolutely no delay whatsoever. The shot was over in roughly four seconds. For those unfamiliar with espresso, this is generally considered suboptimal. The resulting Cortado tasted primarily of hot milk and faintly burnt coffee sadness. After two and a half confirmation sips, I quietly left the remainder on the counter and departed. At this point I no longer review Ross's espresso. I monitor it.
