Worst facial EVER. I booked an eye brow wax and a facial. My clinician preformed the wax first and PUT WAX ON THE SAME PLACE TWICE and burnt the bejesus out of my eye brow TWO DAYS BEFORE MY WEDDING. Any decent esthetician would have 1. Never put wax in the same place twice. 2. Noticed they burnt me. 3. Apologized and would have offered to end the appointment. Instead she blamed it on my skin "being sensitive" (even though my other eyebrow was just fine) and then proceeded to give me the lamest facial of all time. No exfoliating - just gently washed my face. For $80. I'm positive she was just worried about irritating my skin further. When I called to complain the manager offered to either comp me for another facial or refund my money. A refund is the LEAST you can do when your esthetician BURNS SOMEONES FACE. No bride wants a huge red burn on their face the day of their wedding. I wanted to look beautiful and instead people were asking me "what was wrong with my face?" I chose the refund because I didn't want any more going towards such a ridiculous facial. Two stars at least because my massage was bomb and the facilities were beautiful. But the way my incident was handled is not acceptable. read more

What a perfect day to end my busy week. I came in for a pedicure treatment despite reading the previous reviews. The experience was a bit rushed, but the nail technician still performed a thorough job. I took advantage of using their spa amenities and felt so relaxed.The pool view was amazing!!! All the staff were well trained and friendly. Since my pedicure treatment, I have also returned for facial and body treatments. The facial was great, but the mud wrap for me will take some getting used to. It didn't feel as relaxing as I imagined it. The clay/mud was too hot that it burned my skin upon application... and there was the treatment interruption of having to showering the mud off, toweling off, changing in and out, etc. Overall, I will definitely return to the Spa at Thunder Valley for their exceptional customer service and wonderful spa amenities. This is two reviews in one for my massage and for facial I had on May 27th for a early bday gift from my hubby and BFF My massage is 5 stars out of 5 My facial is 1 star of of 5 Overall the spa is small but does have a steam room, sauna and fancy multi head shower. It is very clean and the attendants are helpful. The day we were there it felt crowded at one point while waiting for services and there was not enough seats in the lounge for everyone waiting as a larger party of ladies had come in. I started with my 50 min massage by MJ. My massage was fabulous!! I was so relaxed. She used the right amount of pressure. Also I am not one who likes to chat during my massage and really appreciate when the therapist is respectful of that and doesn't true to push conversation on me. MJ is wonderful and I will go back just to have a massage from her!! Then I headed into my facial where the Thearpist started by insulting my eyebrows saying they are too thick and that I should let her wax me. Ummm noooo I just waxed them and like them this way. We were not off on a good foot and the insults continued until I think she realized I was annoyed. Then it was on to trying to upsell me on services and products - No thank you! She talked the entire time (50 mins) and all my relaxation from my wonderful massage by MJ went to the way side. I mentioned my experience as I was paying at the front desk but received some half shrugs - I probably should have pushed it. Especially since when i went upstairs and my hubby and friends reactions were what happened to me. When I looked in mirror I realized I was red (no extractions) and super shiny (like see your reflection shiny). I had to completely wash off the oils and stuff she put on my face to be able to head out for dinner. Facial was complete waste of money!! So in summary - go see MJ for a massage and do not go here for a facial! If not for horrible experience during the facial this place would be a 5 out of 5! read more

This is what a spa is supposed to be. Robes, dimly lit and quiet waiting rooms for in between treatments. Heaven. I had a amazing massage from MJ, then complimentary tea and biscuits. Next was a organic wine scrub from Joyce and a facial from Yon (sorry about the misspelling girl). You have use of the pool, hot tub, steam room, dry sauna....all free with your spa purchase. We just went here for my birthday to do the couples massage. It's the only massage we've ever done here and this was our 3rd or 4th visit. I use to really like it here but after this last visit, we won't be going back. They use to offer a 20% discount for locals which they have since taken away. Not only did they take that away but they raised their already over-priced services. I find it extremely irritating that they automatically add on a 20% tip!! Tips and tip amounts are optional BASED on the service you receive. This last visit was certainly not worthy of a 20% tip but we had no choice. The couples massage was $219 plus tax plus $43 for a mandatory tip for a total of $289!!!! That was ONLY for a 50 minute couples massage which wasn't even 50 minutes. Every trip before was $195 total for the exact same service! They asked us as they were starting if we were "opposed to them using hot stones". We both replied saying that we didn't mind. Come to find out, there was a $20 charge for those few minutes of hot stones. We were NEVER told this was extra. It was phrased in such a way that it sounded as if the hot stones were included as part of the service. During the massage there were a ton of interruptions and loud noises. It wasn't relaxing. We were then rushed out afterwards because they were closing so we couldn't use the bathroom or get ready for dinner at their steak house. Consequently we decided to go off location and eat dinner elsewhere. I couldn't have been more disappointed!! And I feel like I was robbed of my $289. The only reason I gave a second star was because we were able to use the pool during the day before our massage. read more

Giving you three stars and those are for my wonderful spa therapist Jennifer. She was kind, knowledgable and very good. As for the spa itself I was not impressed. The smell of cigarettes in the spa area is almost unbearable. It really took away from the relaxing experience. Although I was a bit late, it would have been nice to get a walk through of what the spa offers. Young girl who told me about the tour, never came back to give it. Nice, clean and serene. The staff was friendly and accommodating. They were able to squeeze me and my sister in as walk-ins for pedicures (it was my sister's 16th birthday and she wanted to get one but we didn't have time earlier as she had school and we had dinner plans). At first they only had 1 spot, but somehow they managed to find 2 technicians available :) I think 1 of them put her lunch break on hold for us....awesome. They were running a special: $25 for an essential pedicure or manicure (gentle exfoliation, light massage and OPI color application) which is normally priced at $50 for 25 minutes... They add gratuity automatically so it came out to $60 for 2 pedicures. Not bad. The price included entry/access to their health spa (lockers, robes, exercise room, sauna, steam room, relaxation room, etc.) My sister's nail tech was RAVING about the macaroons they had in the relaxation room, but we had dinner plans so we had to pass :/ SPECIALS: I think I overheard something about a local's discount. AND they are running a special on a "balance facial" ...50 minutes for $50 (regularly $95 treatment) They also do "martinis and manicures," a basic manicure and one adult beverage. Bottom Line: Beautiful spa... and I'm used to Vegas hotel spas :) Can't wait to come back for a massage or facial. read more

What an awesome experience! From the moment I arrived, I was treated like a princess! I didn't even know that Thunder Valley had a spa. I found it online and booked an Appt. for our anniversary. I had a full body scrub with Judit and then the sublime facial with Yon and they were both very knowledgeable and so friendly. I've never had a facial like this one, it was 80 mins long and worth every penny! I can't wait to go back, it's an hour away but worth the drive. Loved it! What a relaxing and fun day! Had a gel manicure service today. Nail tech was an older lady named Heather. She was nice at first, but her work was sloppy. I pointed out the bubbles in my nails and she claimed that she couldn't see them. The top coat was also not even on my pinky nail and it just looked like a bad job. She continued to say she couldn't see the bubbles so I asked one of the other nail techs to please take a look. Rachel took a look and confirmed what I saw. Heather tried to fix with another coat of topcoat which didn't work. Heather asked Rachel to fix since she couldn't see - I felt bad for Rachel as she had another appointment coming in. She kindly took care of me and fixed my nails and took her time and was so nice. She even offered to see me again if I still wasn't happy, but it would have to be after her last appointment at 7. Overall - it was a bit stressful but I left happy with Rachel's help. I asked the front staff to give my 25% tip to Rachel since Heather really could've cared less. I'll be booking only with Rachel next time. Management, Please talk to Heather - her work is unacceptable. read more

After great reviews from a friend I booked a November massage package for another friend and I which included a scalp massage and foot mud bath. Here's why they got one star: -the massage was extremely light, I asked the massage therapist to increase the pressure and she said this package is only light to medium firmness. It was so light. I felt nothing. - the amenities were ok but not for the price, meaning we offer fruit meant bananas and red apples - the scalp massage was just tugging on our hair, I felt like this was her first massage -the worst part was when we checked out, rather than allowing the guest to write down a tip they asked us awkwardly out loud if we will be giving 20% which we felt pressure to do If you go, don't bother with their overpriced packages. Ask for their a la carry services which they conveniently leave off their website. read more

I went in for a manicure at the Spa at Thunder Valley. It was nice, they offered me a bottled water as I walked in, which I declined because I didn't want one. The lady Heather was really sweet. She asked me all sorts of questions about me. I liked how I got to choose my nail color from the color stones. They had painted the stones the ones you can get for your fish bowl with the enamel choices. She also had me choose my scented oil. Tahitian flower smells wonderful! Her massage was nice, but I like more pressure. I warned her about not cutting my cuticles and she listened. When she noticed one to cut slightly, she asked if I wanted her to cut it instead of just cutting. I liked how she used a speed coat to dry instead of the nail dryers. I would so go see Heather again. They already charged my gratuity before the service was performed but I wish I could tip her more. read more

I was very lucky to get the best massage therapist (Joyce) and manicurist (heather) in my opinion :) Joyce found all the spots I needed worked on, I feel great. I took my friend here who was visiting from AK and we had a great experience. I had the best massage here by Joyce! The spa had a wonderfully hot steam room and a sauna that didn't feel too warm. They kept the towels stocked and there were personal lockers to keep your phone and items safe. I couldn't get the bidirectional showers to work but it was probably just user error. I got a massage here for my birthday and I was so excited! I've never been to a high end spa before. Everyone was super friendly. Everything was immaculate. I had a prenatal massage and the belly pillow that allows me to lay on my stomach was surprisingly comfortable. The massage was great, the only thing I would have changed is the pace of the therapists strokes. They were very fast and made me feel rushed. It was pretty hard to relax. The pressure was great though and she really hit my trigger points in my glutes. If the strokes were slower and more relaxing, it would have easily been a 5 star visit! read more

Judith is AMAZING! I made a last minute appt and was fortunate enough to have her fulfill my Elite Retreat Spa Service. Judith is thorough, knowledgeable, sincere, and professional. I understood step by step each treatment, and she was always very attentive to my comfort level. I had not been to the Spa for a couple of years, but I will most definitely be back very soon!!!! Thank you so much Judith!!! Some things for the Resort to consider ..... The Spa gets a TON of pool traffic, a lot of ppl who are just hotel guests, not Spa guests, and the receptionists often end up directly traffic, etc. Sometimes this disrupts the peaceful vibe of the Spa. Nothing the ladies in the Spa can do, but maybe a process that makes the Spa a little more exclusive could be considered. The Spa attendant was also a little brief in her explanation of all of the amenities at the Spa. Yes I have been there before, but a refresher would have been nice. Between Jennifer who I have worked with in the past, and Judith today, I will be back to explore more unique spa services!!! read more

Not worth the money at all. 280 bucks and we are going to get a pedicure and a regular old massage. They showed us around quickly no explanation of anything... No idea if the pool or hot tub is open in the winter? The saunas were packed no room... The dry sauna was out of order... If you've ever been to resort spas this is such a disappointment! We called in around 10:30 and got an appointment for 2 of us at 12. Which was nice that they were able to accommodate us on such short notice. We show up a half an hour early fill out paperwork and gets shown around the whole place. We have lockers to put our things and then once we are undressed and in are amazingly comfortable robe we sit in this waiting area with like tea water bananas apples macaroons and candles that's all nice and you just kind of sitting there until you get called for your massage. The place was absolutely gorgeous I've never felt so pampered in my life. I do have to say though it was a very expensive massage and I felt like I was paying more for the perks not the actual service. My therapist was very nice but the massage was mediocre. Not bad but not great. I asked her to spend more time on my shoulders and my neck and I personally just don't feel like I got what I needed in those areas. She was very detail-oriented in her work as far as making sure everything was comfortable for me and I had everything I needed, but the massage just did not cut it for me. I was hoping to also get my feet rubbed and she touch them but didn't really full-on give me a foot massage. My girlfriend also had an appointment and said the same thing with she had a different therapist and she said that we felt like we were paying more for the amenities there but not the actual massage. And one of the girls we talked to in the waiting room that we didn't know also said that their massages are just ok. So hopefully they can hone in on what's best for the customer and get a more clear view of exactly what we need. The September deal we got was some sort of Himalayan salt rock massage and Swedish massage. We were both under the impression that it was a mixture of the two there would be some Stones involved in some Swedish massage involved. We both experienced 80 to 90% of the rocks rather than a Swedish massage which was a bummer because I had a stone massage a few months ago and it just didn't do it for me. It was very relaxing and it felt great but it didn't get into my muscles like I needed and I was really hoping that this would be a little different and it wasn't. read more

June 13th - The pedicure ladies and massage folks are awesome. Christine, was one of my best massages (but I normally go to my girl Janet B in Roseville at Balance, Beauty Bliss - but we wanted a group outing, so we decided to explore a local option for a full package spa day). The pedicure ladies were charming, awesome and a great time to be around and professional (and classy). Loved them. ~ Why the three stars do you ask ... Well, let's talk about the management. If you want to be considered a destination spa, or something locals or out-of-area folks consider for a "special day" or a "thank you" to clients or perhaps staff ... step up your game. The folks you have as massage / pedicure are fantastic. Take care of them. Problem: management. You DO NOT ridicule the staff in front of customers. The manager who was in the day we received our treatment was unprofessional - a young lady that needs to be put in "check" for her classless behavior and needs a briefing of proper manager behavior and also how you conduct yourself in front of customers. I bought a package for each of our entire work team (not cheap), and we were given a torn robe and made to feel bad for getting a treatment that lasted the entire time we paid for ... and on top of that she interrogated her pedicure ladies in front of us and told us one of us that we weren't going to get a full treatment so they could keep their schedule for the rest of the day. So NOT only did she do this in front of customers, she tried to punish us for being on time and lose a feature for the package I had paid for, and had as an appointment for weeks. I'm not sure how that works out and why you would want to do this in front of someone that just dropped a substantial amount of money paying for multiple people to extensive packages. So she not only made her staff feel bad, she made my two ladies feel awkward for wanting the services I paid for ... stellar job manager. All we could talk about all day was you ... I made sure this day was perfect, and we were all at least a 1/2 hour early or more to our appt, and she insinuated and interrogated us. So you say, "daaaang Heather, is there more?" Why yes there is ... so the pedicure ladies politely ask, and no pressure ... if we would like some champagne. Hmm ... that sounds good. The same manager lady came and upselled the champagne that it was worth getting ... 15 min back and forth ... we wanted champagne within the next 10 min ... not unreasonable. 1/2hr - 45min wait ... wtheck? She says, she'll have it out waiting for us after our massages, sugar scrubs, and shower. We were disappointed as we wanted it during our pedicures, but we obliged. We were told it would be chilling for us and the presentation was spectacular and worth the price. We come back looking for our champagne ... nothing. We finally track someone down. They leave it unopened for us. So here we are IN robes ... opening our own champagne bottles ... I had to chase someone down, because none of us felt comfortable opening the bottle. The girl who brought it to us was brand new and a DOLL (absolute doll) ... but she asked if she was supposed to open and nobody was there to help her. She even asked for help. Cluster ... stink. Poor thing. :-( We then asked for some more macaroons. We were told absolutely not ... we asked do you have anything else to snack on ... nope. Then after we joked about more macaroons. Another lady asks for more, and then they bring out another plate of macaroons. This place strikes me as a place that is keeping such a bare bones staff, that the management is forced to keep ridiculous time frames that a spa can't always keep up with ... I was challenged to get an appointment for three of us ... and we had to have our pedicure broken into different time slots. So after going through all these hoops for a great day ... we still had issue. Regardless of pressure, there's way to handling stressful situations, and it's called, doing it in private behind closed doors (though really, nothing was wrong here - this was something that happens and you deal with it). Though I fear for the staff dealing with this woman's short-sightedness that was in charge. Being a leader, means making better decisions for the morale of staff, but also keeping deadlines and learning how to problem solve. If you have a group of three or four and it's the weekend - you'll be fine I imagine (but can't say for certain) ... If you're going on a weekday with a group ... I caution you. I wouldn't suggest a group outing ... even though it's summer time. Booking in advance meant nothing ... just to book was challenging. Maybe talk to a manager? Bonus: local discount and ask for the specials. Beautiful location - towards the front of the hotel and near where you check-in. I would've easily given 4 or even 5 stars had my massage been better. I am taking into account that I am slightly spoiled as I've been in spa management for nearly 10 years now and have had some incredible therapists over the years! The facilities are amazing. The staff at the front desk were kind and helpful and the locker room attendant was simply the best! The locker rooms are equipped with digital lock lockers and you are provided comfy, oversized - for me at least- robe and sandals. For your relaxing enjoyment, a steam room and dry sauna are privately nestled in the back of the locker room along with showers and restrooms. There is also, what I like to call, a primping area with various amenities provided. The waiting room is cozy and has a variety of light snacks and beverages to indulge in. Now for the massage, where my experience should've soared to new highs, but unfortunately not the case. And even more unfortunate, I was treating myself to this massage on my 30th birthday. The therapist, a lovely woman named Jennifer, greeted me and had a pleasant demeanor. She asked me what type of pressure I prefer and I told her deep- it was scheduled as a deep tissue as well. She also asked about any allergies, injuries, sensitivities, the usual. I informed her that, like most, my back and neck were in desperate need. I was then able to choose from, I believe 4, aromatherapy combinations- none struck me as stellar but I went with grapefruit. She began the massage with me lying face down and had me inhale the grapefruit oil a few times. That was the last I smelled of the grapefruit until the end of the massage. The massage in general wasn't awful, however was far from great. Right away, her strokes seemed very fast. to the point where I was experiencing the opposite of relaxation. She continued at this speed throughout the massage. The most unusual part was when she told me she would be applying pressure to a certain area and that I should tell her when it was too much. She then proceeded to put her elbow into my shoulder and apply her body weight until I mumbled 'good'. She did this again several times and again, having had probably close to 50 massages- yes! spoiled!- I've never once had a therapist do this. So in the end, I was bummed. And in retrospect, should've spoken up at the front desk and even adjusted the 20% gratuity that is automatically included and that they made me pay for upon entry. I've been in this business a long time and have been on both ends of the equation. I wish I would've received a stellar massage on my birthday, but hey, the spa and pool were pretty great, so it wasn't the worst. read more

A bit of a late post: Had THE worst manicure on January 15th. When I initially made the reservation I specifically asked for ALMA because she is truly fantastic. However, the operator failed to let me know that she wasn't on shift that day! I got a shopping mall level, rushed, hurried poor quality manicure. Very poor customer service, tools were old and decrepit. She was annoyed that I asked her to fix the nail polish that she let ooze around my nail! I don't know her name, but she definitely should not be working at a Spa. read more

Today my daughter and I treated ourselves to a much needed pedicure and we left feeling dissatisfied. This hotel prides itself on quality, value, and hi end services. If so, when and where? We go the express pedi and that's exactly what we got! It wasn't even the whole thirty min. The ladies that helped us weren't friendly, even when we tried to make conversation. They were servicing us so quick that it felt like they were seriously bothered that they had to do our pedi's. It was insulting. I've had better pedis at home with my daughter doing one for me. It was a shame that it was $100 for that 20 min of unprofessional manicurists fo to our pedi. I will never ever go back there for a pedi! Nor will I ever recommend their spa for pedis. I hope more people let the hotel know what kind of "quality" their spa is offering and maybe in the future they will change a few things and tailor it to what women really want to draw in more business. I am a raving fan. I came to the Spa at Thunder Valley reluctantly, at the recommendation of a friend. I just really did not have any desire to pay to have someone rub me with oil. My friend gave such high recommendations of the massage technician Judit, I decided to go. It was the best decision that I have made this year. Incredible. Over the years, I have sustained a few semi-traumatic injuries that have left some stiffness and constant minor pain in a few locations; lower back, a knee, and upper thigh. I have been living with that for years, and believed that was the way that life was going to be. I have spent countless hours and thousands of dollars with chiropractors, that provide temporary relief from pain, but not long lasting. Seriously, my life has been changed for the better since I have been coming to Thunder Valley Spa. I will explain- I have never been to a spa before. This is a very nice place with a courteous and helpful staff. There is a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. The waiting room was very comfortable and quiet. I was greeted by Judit, was led back to the treatment room, and had a brief conversation about what my ailments were. Judit identified other areas of previous injury, and focused on them. She used a combination of aromatherapy, hot stones, and deep tissue massage. Her knowledge of the human body, muscle structure, and connectivity is unbelievable. This is someone that is a true professional that enjoys helping people, not just rubbing oil on many clients.The results of her treatments have been nothing short of incredible. The results are lasting, not like the chiropractic visits that I have had in the past, which diminish after a day or two. I have had three appointments with Judit, and the results have been fantastic. When I get out of bed and swing my legs to the floor, it does not hurt like it has for several years. The occasional stabbing pain on the top of my thigh has almost completely gone away. It seems like this isn't an ideal place to go on the weekend, but I went during the week while my partner played poker in the casino and I felt that I got good service and a quality experience. The steam room is phenomenal, sitting in there was the first time in weeks that I was not in pain. One thing I didn't like was the pay scheme. The Spa adds an automatic 20% gratuity to each procedure. While I feel like I probably would have left a 20% tip, I did feel like it was misleading about their prices. It seems to me that they should have an appropriate price and pay their workers fairly, not do some shady added-gratuity routine. read more

First time coming to this spa. Very friendly front desk and staff overall. Although it's missing a jacuzzi, there is still a dry sauna and steam room. Can't say for the men's side, but the women's changing and waiting area was slightly cramped, but that also could've been because we arrived mid-afternoon when other clients were waiting for their appointments or just finishing and were getting ready to leave. I was not able to get a massage this time as they did not have space available, but my sister and I were able to squeeze in a manicure on our drop in status. My technician was Mai. She was amazing! My biggest fear is having too much of my cuticle cut to where my nails bleed. It happened to me once at another salon and I've always been nervous after that experience. But I didn't feel nervous at all with Mai. And when I told her what happened, she explained she doesn't cut if it's not needed. I'll have to come back and try one of their other services (massage, facial or pedicure), but for now - awesome manicure experience! Definite come back.. My only tip would be to call in advance. I knew I was coming for a few days so that's my fault for not checking. read more
