On August 5, 2026, my daughter made an updo appointment for a wedding she's attending on Saturday, August 29th. Her appointment was scheduled for Saturday morning. A short time ago, she received a call from someone in the salon saying the person who was scheduled to do the updo won't be in and her appointment was cancelled because no one is available to do it. This is ludicrous, unacceptable and VERY unprofessional!!!! WHAT kind of business does this?! Certainly doesn't happen where we are from! She is not having any luck finding availability in other salons TWO days before the wedding. If you cared about your business and clients, you would find a solution. Simply unacceptable. Cathy the owner seemed very nice when I met her for an interview, but afterwards I had mentioned to many people about potentially working there and they all told me not to do it. I chose to go ahead and open The Mob Spa on Capitol Street in downtown Charleston. Her spa is beautiful, but the overwhelming amount of products and the trainer who had her back to out his before my training, but then ended up going on vacation the next day showed my importance there. The website is not professional nor are the handouts going to customers. They have been in business a long time, but I'm bringing something fresh and exciting at The Mob Spa downtown. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel this situation deserves to be shared as a form of feedback. I scheduled a last-minute massage after dealing with a severe knot in my neck that was causing headaches. I was genuinely looking forward to this appointment more than any massage I've ever booked. I even excitedly arrived 15 minutes early and proceeded to show the front desk my confirmation text to check in. Unfortunately, they could not locate my appointment in their system and had no idea why. I was told there must have been a double booking because another client had also scheduled the same time slot. I received a brief apology and was simply sent on my way. To drive there, show a confirmed appointment, and still be turned away with no solution or compensation was extremely disappointing. The error was theirs, yet nothing was offered -- not a discount, not a reschedule priority, not even a small gesture like a gift card. First of all, the services I received (Aveda Chakara Massage and Sea Mud Body Wrap) were fine. It was the on-line booking experience, interactions with staff before and after my services that were less than blissful. The review I'm about to give has been detailed in a three-page letter that was sent to the business owner and the spa manager on May 17, 2024 (one week after my appointment). Neither has responded to my concerns as of today (June 5, 2024). I was trying to book an a la cart spa day for myself and a friend more than a month away from our chosen date. This proved to be quite problematic, took more than an hour to accomplish--and required a call to the spa the next day to confirm things and add on a service that was to be discounted as an add-on to the regular spa services. The add-on was time in the Lotus Room (online would not let me include it at the discounted price). The person I spoke with confirmed all of our appointments (who was getting what service) and added the Lotus Room at the discounted rate. She also requested the time we wanted to use the Lotus Room so the staff could go prepare the room 15 minutes prior to our arrival. The evening before our appointments, I called the spa to confirm for both of us, get the times for each, and confirmed time in the Lotus Room. Less than 10 minutes later, I had to call back to cancel one of my friend's services. The cancellation was confirmed and then the person I spoke with said they were getting ready to call me because one of my services (I initially had three things scheduled) had cancelled for the next morning. I asked if I could rebook that same appointment for the following week--and was given a new appointment for a week later. The next morning when we arrived for our appointments, it was as if I had not confirmed everything the day after booking or the night before. Their system had me getting two of the same service and had likewise done something similar with my friend's appointments. I also asked to pay the balance of the appointments then. That proved to be problematic because of how the online system had booked us; I ended up with three separate transactions. My first stop was the Lotus Room. Unlike what I had been told, the room was not prepared. I had decided to relax a bit and wait for my friend to get out of her first appointment, so did not realize the steam room and sauna had not been "warmed up." Had I known this, I would have started them when I got to the room. Because of this, I was not able to fully experience the benefits of the Lotus Room before my first service was scheduled. Because I wanted to be completely relaxed, I left my watch and phone in the locker room. Luckily, there is a clock in the Lotus Room so you can make sure you're on time for your appointments. However, it was an hour off (early). The time had changed nearly two months prior. Interesting that no one had noticed it. I fixed it. I went downstairs for my first service at the appointed time, gave my name, and was asked to wait in another relaxation area. Someone came in and called out a name. Didn't quite hear it, but knew it wasn't my name. This person returned a few minutes later and asked for me. When I got up from the chaise lounge, the staff member said she had my friend's name for the appointment--not mine (this should have been corrected at check-in, if not before when I had called prior to the appointments). I said something about the online booking system being problematic and was told, "you'll need to tell the people downstairs at the desk." ("Not my job" syndrome--yikes!) The only thing about the massage that I'd improve is the "consultation" that was advertised on the website. The only consulting that happened was to give me a series of cards that described conditions and listed applicable oils that would be used. I was hoping to have more of a conversation that might detail/suggest a massage "regimen" for me. I left after my second service appointment feeling refreshed. Still missed the first service I had booked (the one that got cancelled the night before), but was looking forward to receiving it the following week. Fast forward to my appointment the next week. I arrived a few minutes before my scheduled time. The receptionist asked my name and told me she didn't see me on the schedule. Not just for that day--but for any day. I had no future appointments booked. (All appoinment slots for that day were booked, so they couldn't work me in.) I said that I had put 1/2 down on that appointment when I booked it more than a month prior--and had asked that I be rescheduled when I was told the therapist had called in sick for the following day. The only explanation I was given was that when I came in for the "spa day" and paid for my services, the receptionist/cashier must have "zeroed out" my balance and applied it to the services I received at my original appointment day without checking for future appointments first. She was friendly and knowledgeable with treatment options. Therapeutic fragrance oil was used for the light scalp massage while the warm vitamin mask sank in. He calls to cancel and they proceed with telling him his card that was on file will be charged the cancellation fee. He had to go to work so I called back to let them know he was not made aware of the fee until today when he cancelled. They said it was posted on the website. I said he didn't purchase the package on the website, he called. We'll be should have been told then, sorry. They still took the money! She is so talented (cut and colored) and we had such great conversations. I will continue coming back to get my hair done here. I've used their massage services for 3 years and they are awesome! Many talented massage therapists there so it's easy to get a 5 star experience. Ambience and facilities are very nice. Many services (mani, pedi, facial, hair, nails, sauna, spa, and more ) available so it's more comprehensive than most resort spas, but it's more accessible with easy parking and interstate access and more affordable as well. They continue to upgrade even throughout COVID so it's going to be around a long time. It really pays off to develop a long term relationship with your spa services provider. My rating applies only to stylist Holly Sizemore. Apparently it made her angry when I respectively requested a recut to tweak the stacked layers she had cut earlier. ​The stack was a bit bulky a​​nd long but I preferred it to the hack job she gave me after the recut. She deliberately cut the top layer of the stack to about 2 inches. The cut is no longer stacked and the layers under the top layer are longer forming an odd shape. It was my first time to Spa Bliss and the receptionist gave no instructions after checking me in, she just moved on to the next guest. Once I got to the floor I needed to be on no one greeted me and the elevator opens into the hair salon so I sat and waited for what felt like ages before I finally asked. Not at all the level of service I would expect. I went up to the 4th floor for a hair removal service and Destiny was absolutely amazing. She was personable and super fast which made it less painful. First let me say if I was only rating the massages it would be 5 stars. Adam is great and I would highly recommend him. As to hair care, I am shocked at how terrible the staff is. I got my first haircut here in February and it was awful. It was not what I asked for at all. I asked him for a very "clean and simple" cut with no layering. Yet, he cut several layers into my hair which were completely lopsided. He said he thought they would look good and make my hair look better when I curl it (which I don't do). 2 days later I went back and a different woman corrected it, though she had to cut it shorter than I wanted in order to fix the poor layering. She told me the haircut was unacceptable and very bad. I was not refunded for this cut or offered anything for the mishap. I considered writing a bad review at this time but hoped that the whole thing was a fluke. A few months later I called to book an appointment with the person who fixed my hair because she had done a good job. When I showed up to the appointment I realized they booked me with a different girl I had never met. She told me there was a mix up because she had also fixed someone's hair after receiving a bad haircut from the man who cut my hair. I hesitated but continued on with the appointment. I asked her to cut my hair to be shoulder length. I showed her a picture of exactly what I wanted and we spoke extensively about what I wanted. She confirmed it would be shoulder length. Yet, when she cut my hair she did not do what I asked for. She said she cut it shorter because she thought it would flip out too much at the length I wanted--this wasn't her decision to make though. I absolutely hate the length of my hair. It is a bob that is barely under my chin. I complained to a manager who confirmed that she should not have given me the cut she did. All he did to correct it, however, was refund the price of the cut. For a full service spa, I would have expected more after my experiences here. Refunding me for a haircut that I hate and did not ask for does not remotely remedy the situation. I left the appointment sobbing with a bob that is at least 2 inches off of my shoulders. It will be months before my hair is the length I asked for. After having 2 back to back terrible experiences in their hair salon I would not reccomend having any hair treatment done at Salon Bliss. Two separate employees took it upon themselves to give me cuts I didn't want (one with layers I specifically asked them not to do, and one with much shorter hair than I wanted) because they thought their idea was better than mine. I booked a Spa Pedi and Shellac Polish all online on a Sunday evening, which was a very easy way to ensure a Monday morning appointment without having to wait until they actually opened in the morning. Kacey has magic hands.......I guess I'm used to places that want to get you in and out and on to the next client. I wasn't expecting the magic hands, but she has them. My feet have NEVER felt so nice and relaxed and smooth and like they don't want to move out of that chair....but she put my flip flops on and made me so that she could work on my hands......ahhhhh bliss.... Kacey is wonderful at what she does. She takes pride in getting it right and that you enjoy your experience. She is extremely easy to make conversation with and also knows the moments to just let you bask in the magic hands with your eyes closed. Would not recommend this place. I scheduled a full pampering day for myself a week in advance. I also called the day before to confirm and was told yes they would see me the next day. I arrived that morning and got a wonderful massage. Then I was told to go to the next floor and they would be ready for me. I sat there for over 30 min until they decided to tell me they didn't schedule anyone for the rest of my services. I was told that they were sorry but that they wouldn't charge me for the other services. (haha) I took the day off drove an hour and 1/2 to get there and this is what happened. I was told the owner would contact me but that was over a week ago and have still not heard from her. This place makes you leave a credit card on file to cover your services if you don't show up but obviously there is no problems with them not showing up! I went to West Virginia for the birth of my first niece. Looking to relax and unwind, I learned about spa bliss from my sister who currently is a WV resident. I researched sugar waxing and was interested to try it. I called and booked an appointment ASAP! Upon entering the spa it was very clean and spacious. The relaxation room where I waited for my service was calming and comfortable. The more important part was the woman that did my sugar waxing, Mary. Mary was nothing short of amazing. Her customer service and detailed explanation of the process made me feel relaxed. She even went as far as to get ahold of me the next day to see how it went. Let's start with the good - the place is pretty well kept inside, offers lots of services, is in a good location and has a dedicated parking lot. However, the cleanliness of the salon and the initial impression are pretty short lived, as the actual interior design is a bit of a mess, with the whole place just feeling cluttered and not that well thought out. Additionally (and this isn't apparent unless you're unlucky enough to have an interaction with them), the management staff is utterly clueless in regards to operating a salon and dealing with people.
