I typically don't like posting negative reviews, but I am posting this to genuinely help the business, because the team seems really nice, especially my facialist. I booked the OxyGeneo facial through a Groupon deal. It started with makeup removal using a wipe that felt like sandpaper, followed by a steamer and cleanser, which was nice. Then came the OxyGeneo tool, which was painful and felt like sandpaper scrubbing my skin. I'm not against physical exfoliators, but after 15 minutes, it felt damaging. I asked how much longer it would be used, and she said 15 more minutes, 30 minutes of abrasive treatment. I don't want to sound ignorant, since I'm unfamiliar with this tool, and maybe that's how it's supposed to work, but my skin felt raw, burning, and irritated afterward, when it was advertised to do the opposite affect. She mentioned a face massage was next, which I looked forward to, but it turned out to be a handheld massaging device and was also uncomfortable. No moisturizer was applied at the end, which surprised me, as facials usually finish with hydration. I left with burning skin, enlarged pores, and no moisture barrier. While my face looked normal the next day, the experience was not what I expected from a facial advertised as painless and hydrating. Unfortunately, I won't be returning, but I genuinely hope this feedback helps the business improve. read more

My 1 word for my experience at Spa Jolie is DISGUSTED In summary, I should've listened to my gut & chose their competitors instead to get my brows & lashes tinted. But thought to give Spa Jolie a fair chance - now I know never to return. The minute the receptionist directed me to this woman who looked as cold & incompetent as she sounded I should've bailed! Although I did not get the name (she did not bother to introduce herself or smile when I walked over to her, which was not a good sign). At 1st meeting her, even though I had a bad feeling, I had to brush it off not to appear unfairly biased; well, it only got worse from there - she remained cold & sterile throughout the experience & w.o asking any questions or talk to help get me comfortable. I followed her upstairs, where she told me to go lay on the table. She proceeded to work on my lashes first; I didn't expect the chemicals to burn & sting! When I complained, she did absolutely nothing about it, just stepped back & waited for me to calm down. I still restrained from leaving as I felt I may have overreacted & the stinging did stop after what felt like forever. Then she came over to work on brows, claiming she'd make them a 'nice shape'.....a few minutes later when I went to look at myself in the mirror, I was both horrified & in shock - she made my brows lopsided, and really thick - similar to the Angry Bird cartoon. At my reaction, she said my brows are naturally not even, & got defensive when I asked her why she didn't check first on how I'd like them applied! I asked to correct them, she handed me a dirty wet Qtip to use, and turned her back. At that point with 2 bad applications, that confirmed it all for me & I just wanted to correct my own brows by wiping off the ridiculous excess and hurry out of there. She made zero efforts to remedy what's turned into a terrible experience - I took my bags & left the room; she followed me all the way down the stairs. Obvious to me, that she was expecting a tip. Like hell....I had already paid the receptionist before this all got started, & it is not worth a cent for all that transpired. I looked terrible. The male receptionist who saw my disgust, didn't know what to say. Though I didn't get that woman's name (nor do I care anymore - she's pathetic excuse for a 'brow & lash technician' & ought to be fired) hopefully anyone reading this would NEVER get her, she may still be working there - best description of her is middle aged, short, squat, brown hair, chin length w/ bangs, wears glasses, a labcoat & speaks w/ what may be a Russian/East European accent. Been going to this place over a decade! They're like family! They really care about you and have great packages and deals especially during holidays! Been doing fractional facial for face and eyes over a decade and no one believes I'm 47,.. more like 32! Highly recommend Jane! She's a sweetheart and I'll continue going and doing non invasive treatments! They even helped me remove a scar on my face from an accident and you can't see it anymore! While the price was great ($208 after tax) for a full body wax. I'll have to pass on returning. I was waxed by Angie and truthfully she was very rough and distracted (she kept picking up her phone and answering messages with her gloves on) Aside from going over the same spots during the Brazilian part more than 3 times, she double dipped the entire time of the session. She did pull out more sticks when I noticed, but only changed it twice. Because of the no refund policy, I just stayed to get my moneys worth. While I am completely hairless, I just don't think this is the place for me. read more

I bought a groupon and left the review through them on 9/10/2019 but it looks like it was removed somehow. I purchased a deal for a full body wax for $60 which is a bargain! I've been there once before for a Brazilian and I figured I'd have a great experience again - TOTALLY WRONG. I was set up with Tatiana who was so cold and annoyed when I asked for her name, she just rolled her eyes and sighed and told me. I like to get to know a little bit of who's going to be looking at my naked body while I'm getting such an intimate service. Throughout the session, not one smile or sense of engagement, and then proceeded to wax several layers off from my right underarm and I now I have what looks like a 1st degree or even 2nd degree burn. After she finished, I had wax residue all over my body and I asked her if she could remove it. She gave me oil and paper towel and told me to do it myself. I HAVE WAX ON MY BACK AND IM SUPPOSED TO DO IT ALONE?! I was told an average tip is about $100 for a full body wax but I left her $80 because it was in fact a decent a wax and my right underarm was just very red, figured it was just very sensitive. When I woke up the next day, I saw how bad my right underarm got and I wish I left her absolutely nothing. My mother is an aesthetician and I've been getting wax services for over 10 years and I understand very well how the service industry works because I also work in the service industry. One of the managers who wore thick black glasses and had long dark hair said that Tatiana does this all day and that's possibly why she was in a bad mood. Wow. First time visiting and using spa's services. I made an appointment, and used SpaFinder gift card. Even though I gave gift card #s for deposit when I booked appointment, I still wound up waiting 10 minutes before my masseuse escorted me to a room. It took several front desk ladies to figure out how to redeem SpaFinder gift card or to retrieve it from its system. Then, you have to pay the $ balance prior to receiving services. OH! The website notes Sports Massage so that's what I asked for when making appointment. The lady who answered my call confirmed that the spa offers sports massage. What I got wasn't what I expected. Massage was just an ordinary deep tissue massage. Very disappointed and felt lied to. OMG, that room was too small the petite female masseuse to maneuver WHILE massaging me. I felt bad for her. This spa seems great for manicures and hair removal. I overheard a man buy a package for laser hair removal. Prices seem affordable. I work a block over from this place and after 4 years I finally decided to give this place a try today. I am looking for a new spa and I thought this place would be it (as it's close to my job and they always have great deals). I was also planning on sending ppl here (my friend was going to spend a couple hundred for their birthday - I am telling that person to go somewhere else). I had one woman start my spa manicure and she filed my nails so bad! They looked rigid and rough. She did my paraffin treatment and I assumed she was going to go back over my nails afterwards. While waiting she pulled her own pair of cuticle cutters out of a bag and began to clip her cuticles. And then used the paper towel that was under my hands to clean her personal cuticle cutter. I want to point out she never threw that paper towel away and continued to try and work on my hands with this dirty paper towel. No professionalism and unsanitary. She did not try to re-file/ buff my nails and went to put the polish on. I said "I'm sorry but I'm going to have to stop you, because this looks awful". My cuticles also looked butchered and spilt! She painted over my cuticles as well! It looked like something a child would do. She asked about the color. I told her twice no it's not the color it's you sis! You messed up my manicure and butchered my nails. You're the issue...not the color. And just like with filing my nails she had an attitude and acted as if there was no issue. And I stated look I don't want to make a scene but this is terrible and I don't like it. Also the hand massage you get in the spa manicure will last 1 minutes lol not even worth it. 2 specialists and a hour and a half for a one manicure is also ridiculous...I had things to do and didn't plan to be getting a manicure from 6-7:30! The front desk overheard me and asked someone else to step in. She did a better job but my god my manicure still looks like shit. It's legit one of the worse manicures I've ever gotten. I've gotten better manicures for $10. Just avoid this place. The deals are to trap you in but the service and execution is awful. And I'm honestly disgusted by the gaslighting that the business manager Jodi participates in when responding to customer complaints. I'm not sure if they're the owner or not but they don't need to interact with customers because she clearly doesn't have enough empathy, care or professionalism to do so. The place is dirty and small; nothing really special or to call home about. I really had high hopes for this place but it's a hot mess in here and I won't be back for any reason as well as steering others in the opposite direction. I find it EXTREMELY SUS there is an extra 91 terrible reviews of this place that Yelp will not make easily available to ppl and aren't counting them in this place's overall rating. It should! It seems like overall most people have an awful experience and this place should be shut down. Not sure what they're paying Yelp but this is misleading asf and manipulative as hell. EDIT: I had to come back because it is 8:45pm, I left the spa at 7:30pm and my nails are still tacky and aren't fully dry. Spa Jolie is definitely the best spa in the West Village, if not one of the best in the entire city. I got laser removal for my back hair and I must say the services were one of a kind. When I walked in I was met with the manager who was a tall young man. He was extremely polite, professional, and made me feel comfortable in the spa environment. I only had to wait about two minutes until I got my back hair removed, and the person doing the laser removal was very kind and very experienced in her job. How do I even begin this. I had a horrible slice of pizza next door waiting for my wife. We just moved into the neighborhood and saw this cheesy joint with the fake neon and flashing LED sign. Went in and the experience was atrocious. Kept trying to up sell other services. Offering fat busting services and non invasive liposuction type treatments. WITAF? It was one of the worst experiences I've had in a spa. I bought a groupon for 3 sessions of vela shape: -First appointment : they made me wait 45 minutes even though I booked in advance. No explanations - I was already there so I just waited. -Third appointment: I called to confirm the date and time . The receptionist ( Mei) confirmed the appointment and made me go on the wrong date giving no solution once I was there. She even told me that I had to wait for them to call me, so now it's my fault because I called to confirm? .... I had to make arrangements to leave work earlier to be on time. SpaJolíe has all the treatments you want at modest prices. I'm afraid to tell you the name of my favorite technician because she'll never be available again. Maya specializes in the high-end treatments like CoolSculpting. Maya will stay with you during the whole treatment (usually about 2 hours, depending on the area being treated). However, I have worked with three other beauty technicians, that were really good as well. Male or female you will feel equally comfortable. Don't expect champagne but do expect to feel great! One caveat they don't have a shower- so you may think twice about body scrubs, etc. They have the equipment and talent to make you feel great about yourself. Just Relax and Enjoy!
