The Spa has been offering comforting home-cooked meals to its customers for "over 55 years" but not sure why, it is not as popular as it deserves. With its welcoming, homey atmosphere and retro vibe The Spa has always been a well-known gathering spot for locals. The Spa is in the center of a small strip mall right off North Beverwyck Road. We came here for brunch, and 80% of their customer base is above 50 Years... We ordered- grilled and chicken omelet - a perfect blend of omelet and chicken. My parents took my daughter and fiance here this weekend and were so impressed they took us tonight. A classic Jersey diner vibe at a time when so few diners are left. Good food with nice portions at reasonable prices. But what they did today went beyond what I've seen in many years: they made us feel like the family they were happy to see. Lots of places give lip service to that--they'll say hello and thanks for coming, but the ladies at Spa made all of us feel wanted as a part of their diner culture. If that's how they treated us when they didn't know us, I'm excited for when they do know us better--and they will! Side note: I don't usually get dessert at restaurants because it almost always sounds/looks better than it tastes. The house made cheesecake ROCKED! Simple elegance. Love the Spa. It's our go-place. Eat breakfast there on the weekends. Order take-out for dinner once or twice a week. Stop in for lunch every now and then. Food is great, always tasty and hot. Service is good, Everyone is friendly. Love their Sammy salad. Soups are homemade and delicious. Any special I have ordered was great. Burgers are thick and juicy. Five stars for the staff being friendly and the place being clean. Four stars for the gyro and chicken fingers - best chicken gyro in the area. One star for not being able to take an order (to go) correctly - not once but the past three orders!! No onions means no onions - I obviously asked for a reason French fries means french fries - not only onion rings or french fries mixed w/ onion rings - especially when I specified no onions on my food! Chicken means chicken not beef, which I do not eat!!!! Its a tad annoying to get all the way home and find out you were given beef!!! Especially when you cant go back to pick up the correct item! I promised my four year old I would take him to get his favorite chicken tenders. Its real disappointing to get home and realize your dinner together was ruined! No, I cant bring the sandwich back the next day - it is going to sit in my car all day. Tell the owner (and the cook) to get it together. Lastly, one should not be asked to call back to place a take out order because their is a shift change. What happened to giving the ticket to the cook so he can prepare it for a certain time? I called ahead of time for a reason. That sums up my last three experiences in a row - maybe its time to go back to the over priced Empire diner. At least the order is correct. Though I went there only a couple times, it's not a bad place to eat. But it's far from being perfect. I had the Greek salad and there was very little of a Greek salad. It was lettuce, tomatoes and feta cheese. Nothing else. My friend had eggs and it was okay. This place is an old place and is great to chill and being a bunch of people together. There's a large parking lot and it's convenient you located near many other businesses. Rush hour can be challenging as many customers show up at the same time and service slows a bit. read more

I just picked up an order and explicitly asked for no mayo because of an egg allergy. When I opened the container, there was a cup of coleslaw that had leaked mayo all over my entire meal. It's incredibly disappointing. I am only giving it two stars because the order was on time and the other members of my family were able to eat their meal. Very rude waitress - I will never go back! I tried to be nice to the waitress asking her name and how she was - she said "it doesn't matter what my name is." I asked why she would say that and she said I have always been a rude person. I left and could not eat my food I was so upset. I don't know what I said in the past or did to get this reponse. I don't know if it was a bad day for her or what. I have never had a person act or treat me so bad! It's the way she said it that made my skin crawl. Super expensive! I went in there to get a breakfast sandwich & turkey sandwich. It cost me $16. Maybe rethink the prices of your sandwiches. Taylor ham should be $3.50 and turkey sandwich $6.00. I came here based on all the great reviews. And unfortunately I was very disappointed. I ordered off their breakfast special menu and before placing my order I asked the waitress at the crab cakes. Did they have mostly crab meat or was there a lot of breading. Her response was they're very good and everyone loves them. So, I ordered the crab cakes Benedict. The last hole-in-the-wall where I had them they were fantastic so I was expecting something just as good. The 1st forkful didn't even go into my mouth. It was FAKE CRAB mixed with a ton of filler. I didn't eat them. I ate the poached eggs and the English muffin and was charged heavily for that. Wish I could have written a better review like most others. read more

I work (via wifi) and eat at Spa every morning during the week. For under $4.00, I get 2 eggs any style, home fries or french fries, toast and coffee with unlimited refills. I'm sorry to say this was this was one of the worst places we have ever been to. 1. There were so many flies flying around, I felt like we were sitting in a garbage dump. 2. The table and sliver wear were all dirty - visibly. 3. It was SOOOO cold in there today and even my husband was cold and he's never cold. Also, the entire place was just old and gross. "The Spa" ain't no spa. It's a faux diner in the middle of a small strip mall. I actually love that it's called "The Spa" for no discernible reason. It is part of the local charm that typifies the town of Lake Hiawatha. The waitresses are standard NJ-diner waitresses, and the clientèle comprises locals only for the most part, given that the diner is not directly located on a highway. The breakfast food is generally good, which is what I've most often ordered. I had an issue once where the waitress didn't bring my toast out with my eggs (a pet peeve of mine), but that's likely not standard operating procedure. For years, this place didn't accept credit cards, but they've been credit card friendly for a little while now, which is nice. Oh yeah, they sell "Spa" t-shirts too! Rather disappointing. Two grumpy waitresses, no Malt Vinegar to go with Fish & Chips, Beef and barley soup was loose ground beef, with the majority of soup consisting of barley. Had a slice of lemon meringue pie to go. The meringue had separated into many pieces in the container and the lemon part has a grainy feel to it, rather than smooth, as it should be.
