I ordered Scott's Zero Hero Omelette. It was fresh and tasted good, although the portion was smaller than I expected. The real standout here is the menu. There are a ton of options and something for just about everyone, whether you want breakfast, lunch, healthy choices, diner favorites, or Greek dishes. The atmosphere is exactly what you want from a local diner. Comfortable, welcoming, and full of character. It feels like a family owned place that takes pride in serving the community. Not every dish is going to be a home run, but the combination of friendly service, a huge menu, reasonable prices, and a classic diner feel makes this a spot worth visiting. Love this diner, or as they call it, a family restaurant! It is not cheap. A deluxe diner! My husband is Mr. NJ, born and bred, and a diner connoisseur. I wasn't really a fan when I met him but he's brought me over to the dark side. We've been to many and this is his favorite. I like it too! It has a great mix of healthy and regular bad for you diner stuff. I love the avocado omelet. Excellent. He says the coffee is great Broadway is nice too but we like this one the best. Quick review. Pretty standard diner. Dated, worn interior. Slow service. We ordered several items. BLT = 3 Stars. Country Grilled Cheese = 2 Stars. It was very small considering the price paid. Turkey Club = 4 Stars. Greek Salad topped with Grilled Chicken = 2 Stars. The salad was warm and limp. The stuffed grape leaves were 100% straight out of a can. The chicken was disappointing. Ordered 2 double burgers for takeout. When I got home I had received 1 double burger and 1 single burger. How complicated is that? I called in and notified them of the error, they admitted that they made a mistake and provide a credit to my form of payment. DID NOT HAPPEN - did not receive a credit. The woman I spoke with assured me that she would send a credit and apologized several times for the error. I can not recommend this place anymore. I've been going there for decades. They did a great job being patient with our large group that arrived at different times. But they put round tables together, so we were stuck in weird gaps. Also didn't quite have the service worked out whether one person was going to take whole party or two. I think we were there for 2 hours! I ordered eggs Benedict, but then was told a long time later that they were out of English muffins. But then they went to the store to get more. My meal was fine, but not great. Second time here and the service both times has been excellent. This time we ordered a red wine and got a white. Unclear who made the mistake but they brought us a red, no questions asked. Our server Bruce was very attentive throughout and the host Ian made sure we weren't waiting on anything at any point. Burgers were both huge and delicious. Huge basket of fries. As I find myself in my remorselessly advancing seniority eating at more and more diners, the old maxim, "You've eaten in 1 diner, you've eaten in them all," (not sure if that's actually an old maxim or I'm just making it up as I go along, but it seems like it could be one if it isn't actually...) isn't necessarily so. I ate here once...a long, long time ago...but it was just another diner to me then, and I never had occasion, or particular desire, to go back. Evidently, they've been around for about 50 years. I returned recently with my old friend for our regular weekly get-together. His perpetual and on-going problems in life have moved from the painfully personal (a good thing) to the financial (bad and burdensome, but better than the painfully personal). Obviously, haute or gourmet cuisine was out of the question. (Not to sound like I'm being judgmental; Nobody ever mistook me for NJ's version of the Buddha, or Thurston Howell. I can well relate to someone with an abundance of problems in their life and a deficiency of cash in their wallet. I like to think my life is not quite a soap opera, but...well...I can relate.) For years, I've passed by the Prestige on a semi-regular basis, so it was in my mind as someplace different, and relatively cheap, that we could go to. It's at an intersection in the center of this quaint, historic little town (the town's written history begins in 1664 when the Duke of York "purchased" the land from the Leni Lenape Indians; I'm more interested in relatively recent history-- for instance, in 1934, prohibition gangster Jerry Rullo was taken for a "1-way" ride on the orders of Newark Mafia boss Ruggiero "Richie the Boot" Boiardo for "stepping out of line"; his well-ventilated body was dumped alongside a local roadway and found by 2 teenaged boys, still wearing an opal and diamond ring, a wrist watch, and with money still in his pockets), and there's abundant parking in the back. According to their website, they've been voted the "Best Diner in NJ" by NJ Monthly magazine 3 years in a row. The restaurant seemed not too busy, but we were seated in a booth off to the side. I'm not obese (at least not "morbidly" so) and my friend has never been mistaken for Oliver Hardy, but it was a tight, uncomfortable fit. A sign from the cosmos that we needed to pay more focused attention to our so-called diets? Maybe. Whatever. We moved to a table in the center of the restaurant. (A family of 4 moved into the booth after us, so...yeah...it's our so-called diets, not the booth itself, I guess.) My friend ordered a vegetable omelet. I ordered a meatloaf sandwich with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese. I'm not entirely sure what prompted my order-- I was hungry, I wanted to try something a little different, I miss my late mother's meat loaf, etc. I worried that it might be a modified meatball parmigiana sandwich, but the taste of the meat loaf was distinctively meat loaf as opposed to meat ball, even if it didn't match my memories of what Mom used to make. Still, it was tasty, and plentiful, and served with crisp French Fries. I was happy. Service was pleasant, and we didn't have to wait long for our food. In fact, when my friend's order was brought out, he bristled, and said in a bordering-on-aggressive tone to our server, "Is this something that was actually made in the kitchen right now, or was it already put together, and just thrown into a microwave? That came out really quick." The server, unflustered, kept his smile, and replied smoothly, "It's an omelet, sir. It doesn't take long to make." My friend had no answer for that and returned to fretting over his financial woes. (He liked the omelet, by the way.) The server probably returned to the kitchen thinking, "What a couple of overweight knuckle-draggers we have in here tonight! They don't pay me enough..." But, whatever his private musings, he was polite, professional and efficient. There was a TV set on, but it was tuned to a sports channel, and the volume wasn't intrusively loud. At another diner I occasionally patronized, the TV set was loudly, and continuously, tuned to FoxNews. To me, the owners proved that, in addition to being ill-informed a'holes, they weren't very savvy businessmen. Even my friend, a dyed-in-the-wool reactionary, thought FoxNews on the TV was a stupid move-- "Whether it's FoxNews, or MSNBC, it's never a good idea to alienate a segment of your customer base. Not a smart move on their part." I agree. Prestige proves by good food, efficient service, fair pricing, and smart management, that their business acumen is sound, and their 50-year-plus commitment to good food/service still effective. Loses a star for trying to fit 2 fat guys into an embarrassingly confining booth, but who's perfect? I don't know if it's the "Best Diner in NJ," but I'll be back. Recommended. read more

Dined here for breakfast with visitors during the holidays. Only giving the place two stars because the ambience is very warm. The person who sat us down was very rude too- did not greet us, added a chair to a table of 5 so clearly did not listen to us when we said we are a party of 5. I ordered the prestigious avocado toast - simply horrible. It was literally just multigrain sandwich bread with unseasoned avocado and a sunny side up egg. This cost me 13 dollars - ridiculous. If you don't know how to make an item, it shouldn't be on the menu period. Thoroughly disappointed. They also charged me 5.50 for a juice for my baby. The place is overpriced and simply not good. Very much enjoyed our family trip here, and very comfortable ranking the Prestige as one of the top NJ diners we've visited. The positive: - great selection, as you'd expect with any diner - they have a bar, with plenty of excellent cocktails. Was very pleased with my old fashioned - a lot of care put into the kids meal burgers - it was huge! Almost the size of what you'd expect as an adult portion. - adult food (pork belly tacos) and a chicken dish were both solid The one negative was an unannounced $1.75 charge for cheese per kids burger. I'm fine with paying extra for cheese - but (1) $1.75 for a slice of American is steep and (2) it was offered as an options without letting us know there was a charge. In any case, looking forward to returning - and maybe smuggle some cheese in in my pockets :) read more

Let me start by saying that our waitress was great. However, we were very disappointed with the diner. We got there about 5 o'clock, so it was the beginning of the dinner time. I ordered a baked potato and it turned out that they had no baked potatoes. My wife ordered an omelette which came with cottage cheese. The waitress then came out and said they didn't have cottage cheese and that she could substitute with Greek yogurt. My wife reluctantly agreed. The Prestige Diner is a nice combination of a traditional diner with a modern spin. You can get your club sandwiches and breakfast favorites as well as avocado toast! I usually go traditional and are never disappointed at prestige. I have also seen their power wrap and quinoa breakfast bowl and they look amazing. The diner has done an excellent job at keeping the establishment clean and patrons safe during the pandemic. They had an outdoor dining area over the warmer months and now you can eat inside. I feel very comfortable eating inside. The waiters wear timers that beep every 15 minutes reminding them to wash their hands and the tables are socially distanced. read more

So disappointing. Placed a to go order, and when I got there, the hostess told me that it would be ready in a few minutes. Then nothing. Twenty minutes later, I was finally able to get the owner to check on it, and it turns out it had been sitting there, ready, the whole time. OK. I'm unsure where to start on this review. I'll break it down into categories because I'm genuinely torn. Interiors: Inside looks to be clean. Set up is such that patrons do have privacy but yet oddly you feel a bit secluded. It's a larger space than it looks but inside you won't feel that way as several pillars and walls help to keep things private. Food: Selection is good. Some specialties and some general meals. The taste tends to be bland. My younger son likes "the sausage" and thinks the food "tastes ok". I personally feel the food is bland. Fresh blueberries were good but the strawberries looked old. One fresh berry cut up over what looks like old dark colored or browning berries. The Florentine omelette was good but the fresh basil tomato omelette was 'ok'. I have not tried anything other than eggs and my son had pancakes. He said "they were good". Service: OK. This is where my review takes a turn. First when walking in and greeting. The hostess was the same twice. Very bland personality for a family diner. No smile and had us wait to ask to be seated. Once seated on both occasions it took a very long time to be approached for drink orders. The first visit the Latina of Mexican woman was VERY nice and made up for the wait. I noticed she had larger than norm table numbers. The second visit however the young Caucasian waitress (obviously younger) made it obvious she saw us waiting and though password several times never acknowledged us until we requested from the cleaner to have our waitress see us. It was disappointing. Eventually she took order and we Rec s food but never do they come to check on drink needs. Or see how things are. This latter was experience on both occasions. Overall I think with some management training or customer service training they could be more worthwhile. It is in a small town and is a VERY busy establishment so maybe they feel they don't need to go above and beyond. But for those who are frequent eatery and travelers I'd hope they'd change their minds on this. Three stars if 5 for cleanliness and decent food /portions and family friendly atmosphere.
