The prices are low, which is a seemingly enticing draw. The first time, I received a 1-hour full body massage, which was very casual but nice. Since most people get this for a casual de-stress "spa-like" approach, most are not subjected to the possible horrors as experienced. I too was raving about how cheap this place was for a soothing 1-hour relax. But not for long... The second time, I got a 1-hour deep tissue massage because I had been experiencing unbearable upper back pains. Throughout the massage, my experience was terribly painful and rough--unlike anything I have ever felt before--and I am used to very hard massages, which I enjoy very much because of my chronic back pain. The person massaging me didn't speak English, which is fine, except when you need to communicate your pain and what you want to be done differently. Surprise! I now have pain 10X worse than I had started with, including sharp and dull pains, stiffness, and bruising. I've never paid so much money in my life to be hurt so badly! If I had known that their "deep tissue massage" was keyword for "sadomasochism", then I would have made my way elsewhere. Ultimately, I did not enjoy my massage experience, and my teeth were soar from me grinding down on them from the pain of the experience. While I was paying the owner, the person who massaged me waited closely near by, which was weird and intrusive. The owner then wanted me to tip more than I already was, implying that my tip was not enough even though it was a 14.3% tip, despite my dissatisfaction. The massager then started speaking to the owner, as if to push him to ask me for more tip even after he had already rudely done so. I understand that massages take very hard work, but I am also the customer and I have the say and rights in things, too--in fact, most of all. I hated the massage! I hated their customer service! Bruises for god sakes--I paid to worsen my condition! They didn't even deserve a tip, and yet I gave them one--that in which was complained about? I highly recommend this place! I just went there for the first time today and left extremely happy. When you walk in it is very dim, the main guy is right there to help you. There are only 8 lounge chairs and no waiting area. I made an appt, but even for a Saturday afternoon it wasn't needed. There were 3 other people in there and people came in after us, so they definitely have enough business. When you walk in you will see all the chairs which face the back. It is an open room, there aren't private massage rooms like what I am used to, although once you lay down and close your eyes you have no idea you are in a room with other people. They lay clean towels on you and you can hear classical music playing. They first bring out a bucket of hot water to soak your feet in, then get started on your head, face, neck and shoulders. Then he moved to my arms and hands. After that it was all about feet and calves. Once he was done with that he went back to my shoulders and worked them like dough. The pressure can be a bit hard, but I like it that way. If it's too much just say so, they really are nice there. The room is very relaxing, everything was very clean and the customer service along with the massage was AMAZING. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone. Their spa special is $20 an hour which is 30 min on your shoulders and back and 30 for the feet. I am currently 9 months pregnant so I wasn't able to lay on my stomach after he massaged my feet, but even sitting up the shoulder massage was great. I look forward to laying on my stomach again, because I noticed they are able to rub down your whole back that way. I missed out on the lower back massage since I couldn't lay down, but I was still very happy with this place. For the price it really can't be beat. I will definitely go back there again. read more

When I need a quick, good rub down, I come here and get the 30 min body + 30 min foot massage. Its $20 for an hour long massage - talk about getting "a lot of bang for your buck"! I've learned that I prefer the male masseuse over the female ones because there's just nothing like the strong hands of man. Tony, for example, stays strong during the whole hour and I didn't feel like he was getting tired or lazy. He earned a good tip. It is not as fancy as other massage places that charge almost $60 for an hour. You walk into a dimly lit room filled with about 12 small, low-laying beds arranged next to each other. You soak your feet in a bucket lined with disposable plastic as you lay on your back while your head and face are massaged. Then your arms. Then you are asked to flip over so he can massage your feet. Then he moves to your shoulders and back and legs. The karate chop to the back signals the ending of your hour. Boooo. Bring change as they might "not have change", forcing you to give a larger tip than you may want. Also, you might run into a language barrier. Some of the masseuse speak limited English and the manager might have to translate. Don't forget to get a card stamped. You can earn a free massage. read more

OK, This is the best kept secret!!! I went in last Wednesday b/c I had the worst neck cramp ever, and I got worked over like a pile of dough right before going in the oven!!! It was great!!!! the place was very clean and smelled relaxing with all those candles. The music was just right and the massaure (it was a man) was great. I liked that I kept my clothes on and still he missed nothing. I couldn't help myself after reading all the great reviews of Spa Ritz to try them out ASAP! So far I've gone about 3 or 4 times and have tried 2 different treatments. My first time was their $20 1 hour special (who WOULDN'T try it for that amount?). Overall, I enjoyed the special but it left me wanting some more attention paid to my back. Now don't get me wrong, the special is great for a relaxing time because they massage you from head to toe (literally) but I have lower back problems and have constant kinks to be worked out. So because of that, when I returned 2 weeks later, I was looking for something different. The person at the counter suggested their foot massage and acupressure (1 hour) for only $35. It sounded great since their foot massages are SO good and acupressure sounded perfect for my back issues. I'll probably regret giving his name to everyone, but "Mark" was AWESOME. UPDATE: However, when I went back a few months ago, Mark had gone back to his country. Will definitely miss his hands (wait, that might get me in trouble--LOL). The last time I went for a 40 minute foot massage and 40 minute acupressure massage with Anna who was VERY good too. Can't wait to go back! But I will say that these massages are of the deep variety but I tend to like them that way but if you don't--speak up. Also, if you already have severe back pain, a deep tissue massage is probably what you don't need. Try acupuncture instead (it has helped me SO much and has made a believer out of me). read more

I live in San Diego, but I always visit Spa Ritz when I am in the La Verne area visiting friends. I was surprised by how affordable their massage services were, especially when you compare them to these mall massage chair places you see nowadays. Spa Ritz is unbeatable. Everyone is very friendly. They greet you and bring you to your own chair right when you walk in. I never have an appointment but they are always ready for me when I just walk-in. Located behind the bagelry and near shogun sushi this place is rather small with about 8 "chair stations" and what looks like 2 private room areas? Upon entering if you haven't been here before you might get timid, because there is no waiting area and right as you enter its where you can see everyone getting their treatments (but its very private, quiet, and a soothing experience once in the chairs), but as i said it may be sketchy if you wanted to inquire about services because 1. you're new and 2. you have this feeling that you have to be quiet and whisper because of the calming music and the employees are also whispering for what you would like. As everyone else has suggested i enjoyed the $20 special. As previously stated i at first wanted to question and request less foot massage and more back, but as a new patron and the awkward quiet library talk i decided just to get what was given with the special and see what it entails. You are directed to a comfortable massage chair then they bring hot water to soak your stinky feet while they start from head to toe providing the massage. then they flip you and work on your back and out of no where an hour has passed. From what I've noticed its about 30 minutes full body and 30 minutes foot massage. Keep in mind this place is an asian owned reflexology massage place and if you don't inform them about intensity level you will get a deep tissue experience. And keep in mind it will be painful. If you want a soothing experience just explain that to the therapist and they will help. Oh and tipping? there isn't a sign that informs you of the "standard" like ive seen at other massage places but we basically tipped $5, and til this day i still dont know if that was good or bad, but ive gone twice and the employee have seemed like it was sufficient. read more

For the first time I think I not only enjoyed a massage, but benefited from it by being so relaxed the rest of the day. It put my wife and I in such good moods after. Wow, this place will not be known for it's fancy decorations or style, but they know how to massage you. Luckily I have family that lives near this place, I plan on visiting Spa Ritz any time that I visit the L.A. area. Even my wife acknowledged that they knew what they were doing. Plus she loves that we don't have to get nude to get a good massage. Your clothing stays on while you get massaged. So my boss was nice enough to take me for a full body massage. I unfortunately am way too awkward to appreciate this. you go into a room that's full of massage tables? I'm not sure what to call them. There's no privacy, it's like the hostel of massages. I found this to be a little awkward. it was hard to get comfortable with so many people in the room with me but I'm sure this is standard and you get what you pay for. The massage was nice and both folks that gave me massages were super hardworking. I will say, that the female employee that did the first segment of my massage got a little close for comfort lol but I'm sure I'm just not accustomed to massage culture. I eventually relaxed and found a level comfort but I'm going to be generous with my rating because I'm such a novice when it comes to this. read more

I've been going to this spa for over 2 years and just love it! Employees are limited in their English, however Tim the owner is always there to translate. I have recommended this spa to 8 friends and they simply love it. It is very clean and presentable and employees do not cross talk talk to each other while giving a massage. 2.5 STARS...I have gone to this place for YEARS. Lately it has been hit or miss. Last 3 times my fiance has gotten horrible massages. Rubbing so hard in one spot for minutes. He had to tell the massage therapist that he was pulling his hair out 2 times. It was not uniform from side to side. He said it hurt way more than it felt good. He tried redirecting the therapist, but he didn't understand. On the other hand, I had a wonderful female massage therapist. She gave me one of the best massages I had ever had there. Last time, I had a Male, and it hurt like hell, even after I asked to go softer. That is why I said Hit or Miss now with this place. I always enjoy this place when I need to de-stress at any time of the week or day. $20 for what they do is so good! I always recommend this place to my friends and family and everyone always can't believe they do all that. They will try to focus on that specific place if they feel a big knot, so they do care and know what they are doing. It's not just a foot massage they go through every part of your body even your scalp. I keep coming back, I've never had any problems with service. I have BURNS AND BRUISES from my "massage". Yelp really needs an option for zero stars. I've been here a few times and enjoyed the $20 special. So I was looking forward to returning. There was a new special with a hot stone massage, so I decided to try it. The masseuse used ridiculous pressure throughout the massage. There was no adjusting. It's the next day, and I have bruising on my arms. The hot stone portion was done right at the end. I've had hot stone massages before. These stones were RIDICULOUSLY hot. Because of the language barrier, I had to ask three times for the masseuse to stop using the stones. Today, I have burns on my back from the stones. I've had lots of massages, but none like this. I agree that the $20 deal is tempting, and I'd had good experiences to this point. But after this experience, I won't be back. I'm in more pain and discomfort than I was before I went. You get what you pay for, and some things are worth a higher price. read more

I went in today after working 10 days straight 10-16 hours a day. So to say it was much needed is an u understatement. Walked in was greeted by a man behind the desk and picked the 90 minute combo. Started with a nice foot soak and face, neck, and shoulder massage followed by my feet. All amazing!! Then off to the private room for my full body and not going to lie some of it was painful due to knots, but well worth it. I asked her name at the front and was told Coco. IF I COULD GIVE A ZERO I WOULD... I've been coming here for yrs & was always completly satisfied, I was a loyal regular with my usual person & all.. I would always refer ppl.. but it recently had gotten taken over by new owners & although I didnt see familiar faces I could instantly tell the difference overall.. but I kept trying to be open to new change & I kept going trying new ppl until todays incident: I called at 5:45pm to make my apt for 7pm everything was made only for me to get a call at 6:15pm that they overbooked somehow if they could switch me to 8pm. I told them things were fine, showed up only for them to not know about my apt.. was asked by at least 6 different ppl the same question told to give them a moment & 20mins later 2 other ppl decided to come in after me & got seated right away.. I was told to continue to wait.. only for them now that my patience has run thin to CALL ME while I'm in there to talk to me instead of face to face to try to have me go to "there other location" claimed it to be down the street across from the target drive there didnt see a thing so I mapped it... tell me why the place doesnt even exist.. only the 1st location so I call back the number to ask why there nowhere to be found if there trying to have me go to that location & told me they were going to send me the address... I dont know about you but all of that is pretty sketch & I would no longer trust this place now under new management. Please beware & be careful here. read more

Came here last night at 8:30 pm. It's one of those typical Chinese Foot massage places. The place was empty and quiet. The lady at the front was very friendly. I had the $20 Spa Ritz special. I had a nice foot soak while my face, head and arms were massaged. Then my feet were massaged, which put me in a relaxed state. Afterwards the recliner was flattened and I turned over and put my face into a hole that is in the back of the chair. I had a great deep tissue massage on my back. The guy used the right amount of pressure. What I liked the best was that the staff kept their talking to a minimum and when they did talk they whispered. They play soft music to help you relax. It's definitely the best foot massage place I have been to. I am going back for sure! read more

Their prices have doubled since the first time I have gone here. The massage is not that great. A woman massaged me and when it was time to pay she watched over me and kept asking for a tip. They insisted on adding the tip to the charge on my card which I wasn't comfortable doing. I handed her some cash out of my wallet and she flat out refused because it wasn't what she expected. Mind you - it was 15%. I asked the manager what the min. tip was and he was kind of caught off guard. They need to post at the front desk that you are REQUIRED to leave a tip at a min. of ........... even if it's not that great. Hey shop owner! Pay your employees a fair wage - don't push this responsibility to your customers. Provide proper training on massaging techniques or send your top performers to be certified so your customers would have a better experience. read more

Made a reservation. Got there 10 min early to "check in" and was told just come back at time of reservation. Came back at time of reservation. Made us wait 15 more minutes. Not worth the wait. We saw other people in there who did not have a reservation and had walked in. It's almost like going to a nail salon. Appts don't matter I guess. read more

This place is amazing!!! It was my first time ever getting a full body massage. I was nervous at first because I cant really take massages ( i have a fear that somebody will pinch a nerve and ill be paralyzed, fall asleep, or my nose will start bleeding Zena Warrior Princess status). Right when you walk in, the place is dark and quiet. Everyone gets their massage in the same room. Weird at first, but it works! What i like about this place is that you dont have to get naked for the massage. You lay on a couch and they put a towel over you (and your face, which makes you even more relaxed), get your feet soaked, and they massage you from your head to your feet, and leave your back for the end. ITS ABSOLUTE BLISS. haha its really awesome. I got the Spa Ritz Special which was $20 for a FULL hour. The prices are reasonable and cheap, compared to the overprice spas. My boyfriend got a deep tissue massage for $35 (there's a individual room for these type of massages, due to the intensity of them; and you have to take your shirt off). If you're looking for a cheap, but quality massage, this place is for you. GET IT! read more

I had the foot massage / body massage and it was very awkward the AC was off so it was very hot in there and I ended up leaving in 10x more pain than I started. My husband opted to get a chair massage and I could hear the man pounding on him. Now when we drive by we joke there's where we paid someone to beat us up. I've had different massages all over and even deep tissue so I understand the soreness that you endure after the massage. These people take your money and beat you up. read more
