In the end, the repair cost less than his low end of the estimate, and it included cleaning, which we had not realized would be included. Moreover, although he seemed hard to pin down for an appointment originally, and I was in a huge rush, though it was partly because it was icy cold (not ideal conditions for fixing a hot tub), once he came, he repaired and cleaned it in full the next day, which was a relief, since we had AirBnB guests reserved that we did not want to disappoint. So I bought a house with a hot tub in Alexandria. Then winter hit. May as well have been in Siberia cuz my ass wasn't about to be outside in a bikini. Then I had a revelation, just like Lauryn Hill: after winter, must come spring. Change, it comes eventually. Knowing absolutely zero about jacuzzis, I knew I needed help setting this thing up before spring hit. Naturally, I searched Yelp for "pool boy" but was disappointed not to find any (relevant) results. Eventually I found some spa maintenance companies on here, but none appeared reputable. So I dug through the seller's documents on the hot tub and found an old invoice for Spa Solutions and gave them a call. Joe is the owner of Spa Solutions and is as helpful as can be. He didn't try to rip me off or do simple tasks that I could do myself. In fact, he encouraged me to do some of the muscle work myself, like filling it, checking for leaks and ensuring the motor worked, before calling back for an indoctrination on the chemical process of the spa. When I was ready, he came out for a same-day appointment to show me how to shock it, drain it, and balance the pH/alkaline/bromine levels...and only charged for half an hour of time! Plus, you can buy everything straight from him when he's on a house call...he has all of the chemicals you will need. Everything. Afterall, everything is everything. I did a drive by of the address listed (same one that's on the invoice) and it's a house in Del Ray...so think this is a by-appointment-only kinda thing and he runs the company out of his own house. But do not fear; Joe will get your spa squared away...he's legit. Bottom line: if you're in need of a "spa boy", Joe is your man. I called spa solutions about an issue with my hot tub. Even though they were busy, they fit me in their schedule immediately. They diagnosed the problem and told me to contact the manufacturer of the hot tub to see if I could get a better deal on the part. The manufacturer is going to handle the part and repair (even though my warranty recently expired). But Spa Solutions was very gracious and didn't charge me for the initial consult. Holy hell, am I ever impressed. I have a fifteen-year-old spa that had sprung a leak. That there was a leak was apparent. Where it was seemed a matter more complicated than Chinese Algebra. Joe is dogged. He does not like to be stymied. So he get digging, literally, through the foam cover on the corner. Then he found the leak and it was not insubstantial. I am handy myself. For instance, I own three routers, two table saws, a ton of plumbing equipment. And I would have punted long before Joe actually found the problem. He fixed it, and he charged a reasonable price. Like other reviewers, I had just moved into a new home and inherited a hot tub that had a few problems in its electronics & control systems. After three frustrating (and expensive) weeks of failed repair attempts and part replacements by another business, I was told that I'd have to replace the entire control board and system at a cost of over $1,500 parts and labor. Ouch. I decided to get a second opinion, found Spa Solutions on Yelp since they're only a few blocks from where I live, and left them a voicemail. Joe called me back within an hour, and offered to come by to quickly check out the tub - at 4:30 PM on a Friday before a holiday weekend! We bought a house with a hot tub in the spring. We were told it had been winterized but should work fine. What we didn't know was how long ago it had been winterized. The pipes had shrunk and the pumps were broken or leaking. After a fiasco with another company, I gave Joe a call. He came out and fixed leak after leak over the course of a few months.
