I came here for a punk show. The place is pretty small and might be hard to spot if you don't know what to look for. There's one small "Space" sign out front, and a small parking area in the back. If you're here to see a show, it will get hot but I hardly noticed since I was into the bands I came to see. The stage area isn't raised much, so if you're short like me, you have to get there early to see anything. Drinks were good and strong for me. I ordered a Long Island ice tea and it wasn't just a cup of ice with a dollop of alcohol in it like at the last music venue I was at, so I was very pleased. I would definitely come back again for another sweaty punk show. :-D

My friends and I stumbled upon this gem on a weekend trip we just took for one of their birthdays. What caught our eye is the fact that the word space is involved. I am a huge Star Wars fan and who isn't a good alien movie lover? So the word space immediately is catchy. We stayed at an air bnb that was walking distance from Space. We went to dinner earlier in he night and wanted a more chill night compared to the one prior in which we were out at gaslamp, so we decided to explore the local bars we could walk to. Anyway, we walk there and discover there's a $12 cover because there's a band playing. Honestly, not a big deal because my friends and I are all into music anyway. We get in and the band playing is Armors which ended up being an awesome show. They did a cover of Just Like Heaven by the Cure and immediately I am down because the Cure is one of my faves. We had a few more drinks when the band stopped playing, and even chatted with a few members of the band. It was all in all a really cool experience. The bartender even gave my friend who's birthday it was a free drink. The decor is cute but not over done. There's a disco ball. Tight. The bathrooms are nice with weird "space powder soap" as my friends called it. Next time I come to San Diego I'll give this place another visit for sure :)

What you see is what you get and that's okay! The venue is in an odd spot, tucked in between a Churches Chicken and a few liquor stores. I would definitely consider this place a dive bar. It's actually pretty easy to miss if you don't know what you're looking for. I went here last weekend to see MACK and Michl and had a good time. It's a very intimate venue, which was perfect for this show. They sounded wonderful, which was good because sometimes in intimate venues this can be hard to achieve. Additionally, the drinks are cheap.. like really cheap. And everyone working there was nice as can be. From the door man to the bar tenders everyone was pleasant which set the mood for everyone else attending the show.

Chill atmosphere with good music. The area is small but cool. They have decent price beer.

Food was pretty good; however, there was nobody in here and it took over an hour for 3 sandwiches and a fruit bowl.

Great service and friendly staff. Best bar in in the area and possibly all of San Diego.

Stinky dive bar, but great people watching. Drinks seemed to be average prices for your typical wells. Parking absolutely sucks.

Came here for a monthly, had a blast! Fast bar tenders, friendly staff... It's not a large venue by any means, but it had a nice vibe.

The music is always great. Shoutout to Jason behind the bar. He's consistently friendly and makes the night even better. Honestly, the whole staff does a great job. If you're going with a group, I'd recommend getting a table since it can get really busy. On weekends they have a cover, and it's cash only. There's an ATM inside. Also, pay attention to the dress code. No baseball hats, and they do enforce it. Overall, it's a solid spot for a night out.

Overall a nice nightclub and bar to hang out in downtown San Diego. It's right across the street…read morefrom the ACE parking lot called "Park It On Market" so easy parking. Parking is $10 after 6pm until 3am. The ambiance is modern and sexy. The front part of the venue is a bar with several tables and love seats spread throughout. There's also a small outdoor area with a few tables and bar stools if you need some fresh air. Behind the bar is the actual night club area with the DJ booth, several VIP tables, and a smaller bar. There isn't a dedicated dance floor so people are just dancing wherever there's space. You can get on the guest list through their website for free bar/club entry before 10pm. After 10pm, there is a cover fee of $20 per person. It was quiet around 930pm when we arrived but it got pretty busy by 1030pm and crowded by 1130pm. Note: the back night club area opens at 11pm. If you come before then, only the front bar area is open. They apparently serve food as well but we didn't try it this time. I felt service was great from the bartenders to security to the servers. The DJ was playing awesome hip hop music which was perfect for the vibe. They even have a professional photographer who takes your photo. If you like it, it's $20 for your picture in a frame. Two things that can make it even better: - wish there was a bigger dance floor for those without tables to enjoy the music and dance - wish there was more than 2 bathroom stalls in the women's restroom. With hundreds of people inside, the line can get pretty long.

Unfortunately, the night ended up being more frustrating than enjoyable. Despite having a table reservation, we still had to wait outside for over 20 minutes before being allowed in. If you're paying for bottle service and VIP accommodations, you shouldn't be standing in line wondering when you'll be seated. Because of the wait, the manager told us before we entered that he would provide a complimentary bottle of champagne. However, once we got to our table, the bottle server initially told us that wasn't possible and that they don't do that. After several trips back and forth between the server and the manager, the bottle was eventually honored. While we appreciated receiving it, it shouldn't have taken that much confusion to honor a promise made by management. After finally being seated, we waited more than 30 minutes before receiving any drinks. For a bottle service table, that's a long wait, especially when you're celebrating a special occasion. There were also issues with our order. We requested High Noons, which were listed on the menu, but were given something else instead. If an item isn't available, customers should be informed beforehand rather than finding out after the fact. The most stressful part of the night was when the staff took my friend's ID and forgot to return it. Since my friend was visiting from out of town and needed it to fly home, this created unnecessary stress at the end of the night. To their credit, someone from the club did bring the ID to where we were staying, which we appreciated. However, the situation felt like an inconvenience to some staff members rather than an urgent issue involving a guest's identification. I do want to give credit where it's due. One staff member who helped us was genuinely kind and helpful, and they even put a picture of our bachelorette group on the screen, which was a thoughtful touch and one of the highlights of the night. Unfortunately, those positive moments weren't enough to make up for the delays, poor communication, and overall lack of organization. For the amount of money spent on bottle service, we expected a much smoother experience. I wouldn't return based on this experience, and I hope management takes steps to improve communication and customer service for future guests.

FRIDAYS, 9:00 pm to midnight $7.00 at the door, $5.00 if in…read morebefore 9:30 pm If you love to dance, but hate the club scene, this is your place. DanceJam is an open floor, mixed dance venue -- music ranges wildly, but tends mostly to worldbeat/latin, 80's and electronica. All styles and abilities welcome, on floor participation not required -- DJ is a great place for non-dancer you to bring your dance-lovin' honey to get the groove on. DJ is family-friendly: you can bring your kids if you like -- so pack up your mind, your muse, your munchkins, your moves, your mojo, your... oh, oops, sorry -- got stuck on the alliterative track for a mo'... whatever you like, truly. Comfortable clothes recommended, also socks or soft shoes for those who don't like to do their boogie barefoot. WHAT IT IS -- FUN: yes, I know -- *duh*. However, I've been to plenty of dance venues that completely failed this primary requisite. INCLUSIVE: everyone is welcome here, and that really does mean *everyone*, regardless of age, sexuality, race, shape, (or lack thereof!) other arbitrary definition or even the inclination to dance. ACCESSIBLE: located just around the corner from Claire de Lune at 30th and Kansas, DJ is easy to get to by any known means of transportation, public or private. NOTE -- parking *can* be a royal pain, and I recommend you do NOT park behind Acoustic Expressions. LOW-KEY: the crowd is very mellow, there is ***LOTS*** of seating for the tired / non-dancing folks, music is various enough to suit most tastes and the people watching opportunities are endless. WHAT IT IS *NOT* -- A MEAT MARKET: if you are looking for a hookup, don't look here -- *totally* wrong venue. A BAR: this is an alcohol, drug and smoke-free environment. BIAS ALERT -- I have been attending DJ for the 20+ years its various incarnations have been in existence -- *of course* I think it is a good thing... and I'm willing to bet you will too. Give it a try -- Tante Dio sez'
