Best used guitar and amp inventory in the city hands down. I can't believe some of the reviews I've read of people crying because they weren't treated like royalty upon entering the front door. These guys are professional musicians not McDonalds employees. They're here to deal and do serious business not wait on you hand and foot. Grow up. I've been coming here for years. Some days the customer service is better than other days, oh well. This bit of advice will go a long way when dealing with most mom and pop music stores. Spacetone is one of those music shops that you can walk into during the day and all of a sudden you're being kicked out because they're closing. Of course the guys that work there would be okay with you hanging around. I must admit I may be a little bias because Spacetone is where I found the love of my life in the form of an acoustic/electric guitar. She's gorgeous and I got her for a great price. That's the thing I love about Spacetone...they wont try and scam you. The only thing these guys want to do is help you find exactly what you're looking for. If that means they sell you a guitar a bit cheaper then a Taylor or a Fender well so be it. The shop also has great equipment for tons of different instruments, cleaning supplies, and music books. The space is a good size, the employees are really helpful and I guarantee you'll fall in love with an instrument. read more

I am totally floored with all the high reviews of this place. I am a tone junky. I have a bucket full of pedals. I love shopping at guitar stores, looking for the next pedal to put on my board. I have been to this place quite a few times. On the positive side, this guy has a great selection of pedals. He even carries modded pedals, which is awesome. On the other hand, he is a tad bit proud of his prices. I have been to this place on a few occasions. The guys working behind the counter are not forth coming with their assistance. You try to make small talk with them and do not seem interested in trying to help you out, let alone make a sale. This last time I walked in and was totally ignored. I browsed the pedals and did see a few that I thought about inquiring about. If there is something you are looking for, you will more than likely find it here, but be prepared to pay a pretty penny for it. I overheard one guy who was talking about a daisy chain power supply to one of the guys who, "had a gig that night". He was talking about how many pedals he had on his board. I almost pipped in and explained he might want to get a power brick, that way he could control the voltages to all his pedals as the daisy chain power adapter is good in a pinch. They guy could have easily sold him a $10 daisy chain power adapter or even had him get a power brick. These guys do have a great vintage selection and a good pedal selection. They might sell more if their services was a tad bit better and they were not so proud of their prices. I might even be willing to drive into San Antonio and buy my pedals from them. read more

"Bill K" In the other review sounds like a moron know it all. They should have threw a power brick at Bill's dumb face. The prices are more than fair maker value. I've been to many music stores in SA and Austin and this is one of the best. They don't pretend to know it all and aren't trying to up-sale to annoyance. My cousin recommended this place to me after he and several of his friends had bought guitars there. I went there around lunchtime just to see what they had, when I first pulled up I wasn't so sure about the place as it's not much to look at from the outside, but once I got inside i was convinced this was the best place ever. The three guys there were AWSOME to talk to and they where willing to give me honest advise into what they thought would be best for me without being 'salesman- like'. I finally found the perfect guitar, but it was a little out of my price range seeing as I would need to buy accessories for it later. The guys there where willing to bargain with me and work out a price that i could afford. As I said earlier, the outside isn't much to look at, no flashy colors or neon singes, but one of the things that I found impressive was how clean everything was. All of the guitars where clean and tuned, and the guys themselves where very clean and polite. I could not have asked for a better store!!!!!! read more

I was supposed to be in and out to drop off my guitar for a setup. I walked in and felt like I was ignored. Not even an acknowledgment that I was there. I thought "whatever no big deal it's a guitar shop, what do you expect". I patiently waited for my turn to be seen to drop my guitar off while the customers before me were being very chatty. My dog was waiting in my car (don't worry it was running with the AC on) so my internal clock started ticking. So I wait right in front of the cash register counter to be seen to drop my guitar off. Even while standing there for more than 5 minutes this new customer walks in with an amp that he's going to sell and guess what? He gets seen right away cutting in front of me. So told the other rep who was just sitting there watching me "hey man, I'm just here to drop off a guitar and I been waiting patiently." Then I handle my business which took less than a minute and then head out of there. I don't want to take it to this extreme but I was the youngest one in the room and a person of color so I hope this wasn't the reason my experience was so poor. I was going to buy a pedal today too but after this experience I'm going to take my money elsewhere from now on. read more

They have a good selection and do good work (had them swap out a pickup), but their customer service is sometimes irksome. I've been in there a handful of times, so I may have caught them on some bad days. A lot of eating going on behind the counter....we're dealing with instruments here, not washing cars. Clean hands and a store that doesn't reek of onions would be more appealing. Also, their prices can be a little on the high side. read more

I have been a customer at Spacetone for over 9 years now - before they had the swanky shop on Austin Highway. They have an extraordinary selection of vintage and used guitars and a solid selection of amps and effects. The employees are incredibly helpful and friendly. You might end up paying a bit more for things like strings and some other new products than you would at Guitar Center or Sam Ash. I don't mind paying a few extra bucks though to support a local business, though. Besides, they have cut me some great deals on used stuff. My favorite part, though? One time I was browsing in their store, some years ago, and some jackass plugged into a Marshall half stack and proceeded to shred away at an unreasonably high volume. One of the guys working immediately went up to him and asked him to turn it down. Few guitar stores care so much about maintaining an environment that doesn't induce headaches. read more

Made the drive up from Austin to look at a used guitar. They adjusted the truss rod on the spot for me, and the owner gave me a new pop in tremolo arm when we realized that the original was missing.
