We were looking for a restaurant in Ocean City NJ to celebrate our second anniversary. We had never been there before so we read reviews that said Spadaforas was a great place to eat at and the food was excellent. When we got there it was actually a fresh seafood counter that you could get takeout. They did have tables outside with umbrellas so we decided to order. The fish was so flakey and tender and delicious with fries and coleslaw on the side that were also very good. We got iced tea to drink. The only real down side was that the wind was blowing down the street quite briskly but we just laughed it off and enjoyed our meal. We could see that there were many people coming and leaving with their orders so a lot of people knew about this great place and they also knew that it was a takeout place. Got take out from here while visiting from CT. I ordered the NE Clam Chowder and Lobster Mac and Cheese. The lobster mac and cheese was listed on their menu as $12.95, but we were charged $18.95 The clam chowder was good - little thin, but well seasoned and flavorful. The Lobster Mac & Cheese was a MUCH smaller portion from what you'd expect at that price point, and was inedible - bitter and sour. I'm not sure if it was lemon they inexplicably packed with it or something had gone bad, but for $30, I ended up having soup for dinner. Very disappointing experience, especially hearing all of the generally positive reviews going in. read more

I did however love it when it was a small restaurant located near 10th St. the city revoked there so they went back to the main location which is a takeout seafood market. Every time we come to Ocean City, we go to Spayaforas for the softshell crab the lobster bisque soup and fish dinners. The stuffed flounder was amazing. The service is very good and very busy. They do have picnic tables out front but you can enjoy your meal at. So after a beautiful day, my wife and I to checked out this tiny little seafood restaurant. Surprise! It was a hot sunny day so I tried the special crab cake. Wow. It was freshly fried with chunks of crab meat inside. The coleslaw was also tasty and citrusy. Our appetizer fried clams were crunch and chewy. We wanted a low-key fresh seafood dinner after a wonderful day on the beach and Spadaforas was a terrific find! We started with oysters on the half shell - big and plump and juicy! Clams Casino was delicious. Coconut shrimp were huge, butterflied, with a yummy crunchy crust and great dipping sauce. The scallops were cooked perfectly but could have used more seasoning. The mahi-mahi with Cajun seasoning was very good - fresh off the boat. I only took off one star because of all the side dishes, all were starchy - potatoes or corn - except for cole slaw (or a garden salad for a $2 upcharge??). Rubbery shrimp, warm scallops, canned vegetables but great French fries... at a seafood restaurant!! After a day on the beach we decided to go back to Spadafora's for a full seafood dinner. My wife ordered the broiled shrimp and I had the broiled shrimp and scallops... I started with my scallops and was quickly disappointed by the temperature and texture. They were not tender and seemed tough on the outside. I then tried the shrimp... as soon as I picked it up I knew it wasn't going to be good. Warm at best, rubbery and not freshly made. I then asked my wife what she thought and I knew right away she had the same experience! Oh yeah... the vegetables were not even close to being fresh. I told our server how unhappy we were and I thought she would have shared that with a manager.... well, after about 3 min she brought out the check and nothing was taken off and no visit from a manager... so I paid and then wrote this review. This place is an absolute gem in OCNJ. I can't say this without sounding snooty so I'll just say it and hope that it properly conveys the emphasis I am going for.... I have ate at some (most) of the top rated steakhouses in the US and quite a few high quality (and smaller local gems with true good quality) seafood restaurants as well, and the Surf and Turf I had here was PERFECTION. I am through and through a ribeye guy for my steaks, but I decided to go for something different and went with the filet offered on the Surf and Turf. It comes out on a heated plate and seems to almost continue to slow cook the meat, which was absolutely tender and perfectly cooked. The flavor was amazing. The lobster was hands down the best I've ever had, including during trips to Maine and from genuine down by the water restaurants with fresh and high quality seafood. I can honestly say I have no idea what made it and my steak so good compared to other prime restaurants I've ever ate at, but damn.... if I were ever on death row and had a last meal option or if I was told that I could only eat the same meal from one place for the rest of my life; it would be the Surf and Turf here without hesitation. read more

This was my first time at this restaurant and I had a completely horrible experience! My waitress placed the wrong order, and when I asked for the right order I was confronted by the manager (I'm assuming). The first thing he says to me is, "You sent back the food as a mistake but you ate some of it." He proceeds to say, "I'm just trying to find out if it's really a mistake or you just sent it back because you didn't like it." If I told my waitress that she placed the wrong order, than yes it was a MISTAKE, and of course I want the right order. Are you assuming that I'm a liar?! Now I'm offended. He then adds, "Because your waitress said she checked on you a couple of times." Get your facts right, because she did not, and I don't know what she told you. In fact, the only time she "checked in" was when I waved her down because she said she would bring my dressing out, but I noticed that she forgot. Keep in mind my company has already started eating and I'm still waiting. The 2nd time was to tell her that this was the wrong order. To add insult to the injury he proceeds to make me feel even worst. "There's just a big price difference and other places around here won't let you send it back. I'm just trying to do you a favor. The kitchen is going to be upset with me and I have to explain why I took your order off at the end of the day." I'm completely speechless at this point... Other places do not have anything to do with me. I'm a paying customer at YOUR establishment. What the kitchen or whoever is going to feel about you is not my problem. This week when we visited our daughter, son-in-law and grandkids, we all took a day trip to Ocean City. With our requirements in mind, Pinky recommended Spadafora's. We got there early enough to be able to take advantage of the early bird menu. At that time of day, there was hardly anyone in the place so we were seated immediately. Our daughter took advantage of the early bird menu. She ordered the broiled salmon. All dinners on this menu come with soup and an appetizer. For her soup she had clam chowder and for her appetizer she had steamed little neck clams. She enjoyed both and was impressed at the amout of clam that there was in the chowder. As for the little neck clams, she made short work of them. The piece of salmon she got was thick and huge yet properly prepared. Our son-in-law decided to order a steak. Not something I would have done in a seafood restaurant but he thought that the meat was good quality. I had a cup of lobster bisque which had a generous amount of lobster in it and was tasty. For my main course, I had the softshell crabs. This was an impressive dish as the crabs were some of the plumpest I've had. The preparation was very simple---a flour coating, then fried. For my side dishes I had fries and at Pinky's suggestion tried the fresh corn on the cob. Our daughter also had the corn. We were both raving about it and telling my husband and our son-in-law that they were missing out by not having it. You could tell that the corn was freshly shucked as there was the occasional piece of corn silk in it. However, it was very sweet and juicy. My husband started with a shrimp cocktail. The shrimp weren't very big but he did enjoy it well enough. He had broiled scallops for his main dish and was very impressed with the quality and the size of the scallops. The only part of his meal that he didn't really care for was the cole slaw as he found it to be bland. The kids got food off the kids menu. All 3 had the chicken fingers and none went to waste. We all left feeling full. The staff was friendly and efficient---no complaints there. The place is quirky. The bathroom is outside the restaurant and you need a key to get into it. However, those who used the bathroom found out that it wasn't necessary to have one as the door was unlocked! Our daughter wants us all to go to Ocean City again next year. We would certainly consider a return visit to Spadafora's. The location can't be beat---an easy walk from the boardwalk. read more

After being stuck in traffic for nearly 2 hours, we were starving and ready to eat. I turned to yelp looking for a seafood spot. Spadafora's looked promising so we started our couple block treck. When we arrived I was suprised by how small it is they have some tables outside which are shaded and the inside is air conditioned however with kitchen going it is not really cool inside. I made a meal of two appetizers and a bowl of new england clam chowder. I really appreciated the attention to detail and effort they put in their clam chowder. The potatoes were uniform in size and the clams were chunky and tender. It really hit the spot even on a hot summer day. The steamed littleneck clams were fresh and went great with the tabasco already at the table. The cold bar sampler was a little disappointing it tasted fresh but was a little dark like it was frozen months back and saved just for me, unfortunately. In this case I wish they hadn't lol. My fiance went with the crab cake and fried shrimp which were tasty. My daughters chicken tenders and fries were perfectly fried. The french fries were to die for and a second runner up after the clam chowder. The service was friendly and fast. I would definitely come back again and have a bowl of the clam chowder. read more

The food was good. We ordered raw clams on the half shell for an appetizer. The waitress told us that the clams that they had in stock were very small, but they would offer 18 for the dozen price. We though that was fair. Our dinner combos were delicious. Our only issue was that there were way too many small plastic cups with lids for every sauce that came with our meals. I understand that with takeout, the sauces come this way, but with our two meals plus one appetizer, we had to dispose of eight plastic cups with lids, one aluminum cup, plus the three styrofoam containers. This is my first time in Ocean city and I wanted to eat seafood. This was a great establishment with friendly staff and a family atmosphere. The food was incredible for a diner style meal. I ordered the seafood broiled combo (amazing), raw clams (very fresh) and the keylime pie for dessert (outstanding). We were served hot rolls before our meal and they were crispy and soft on the inside. I highly recommend this place for your dining needs. I would avoid the veggie sides or apple sauce. We decided to eat here Sunday night, and were a party of 4. We ordered the seafood sampler, which had king crab legs , shrimp , scallops, and crab cake. We also ordered a 6 ounce filet. ( our version of a surf and turf)The Filet was cooked perfectly. The seafood was cooked perfectly as well , which can easily be overcooked. If you call this a negative, The only negative points are parking and that they would not let us order king crab legs , because they would have run out . Because of this , the only king crab legs we were able to order were part of an appetizer sampler. This seems to be a common issue in Ocean City this year though. The bill came to 112$ . This to me was reasonable for a party of 4. Overall the waitress staff was pleasant and attentive. The bus boys/girls were also quick to clear empty plates. All four really enjoyed the food. I would absolutely recommend eating here. Do yourself a favor though and call ahead for seating :). read more
